  1. Just blame the guy on the shift before you -- or interns.
  2. Yost will be back, but DM will keep him on a "short leash" for next year. Sounds like if we don't come out of the gates exploding he's done. What is the point of this? (I don't doubt this is a likely scenario) So basically when the Brewers go on some sort of losing streak Ned will get fired? I am all for Ned getting canned, but what advantage is there to doing it mid-season and having some sort of interim manager. We are setting up a scenario where Ned goes to spring training sets up his team, the team starts the year 5-10 and Ned gets fired, and Dale Sveum is our interim manager for 2008? If you thought there was a good chance your manager would not last the AS Break, why not hire a new manager in the offseason and let them setup and get to know the team in ST? It is undeniable that the tide turned against Ned in 2007 -- The "fire ned" crowd has grown exponentially in 2007, while I don't think the pro-Yost church has any new converts. There will be a lot of heat/pressure on Ned in April, unlike his previous Aprils. It could get ugly.
  3. The only player currently on the Brewers' roster that is an upgrade defensively to Hall in center is Gwynn. Hall was among the worst CFers in the NL last year (Hall made 9 errors!) -- Hart, while not a superstar in CF, is just a little below average -- Hall is WAY below average if not the worst. Hart would be an upgrade to both Hall and Gwynn defensively in CF. Improving Hall defensively in CF might be accomplished by strategically locating a 50 gallon bucket after each AB. -- I kid -- but upgrading Hall in CF is a must, and not that hard to do (from a defensive talent standpoint).
  4. I could take the oversensitive approach that some of the people on this board take and whine about how he is being condescending towards me and going against the BF.net code of conduct, but that is dumb Hey, you mentioned your addiction, I guess I happened to conclude it was to crack, my bad. That actually seems undersensitive to me, generally I am pretty compassionate regarding people and their addictions. Comparing DJ43 to a spurned HS girl and owning to an addiction in the same thread leads one to hasty conclusions about said addiction.
  5. DougJones, you make me laugh. If I weren't convinced of your masculinity I would guess that you were some girl Ned Yost stood up for your junior prom.... I need more Brewer talk to fuel my addiction. Just stick to the crack.
  6. Whether BFnet.com likes it or not, Braun will be the opening day starter defensively at 3rd in 08, and Hall will still be in CF. The other point we are not making in this discussion is that Hall plays terrible D in CF compared to his peers -- so by moving Hall to 3b, we are not only upgrading 3b but CF as well.
  7. However 3B do tend to be error prone. None of those dudes were near as bad as Braun He has time for improvement. I would like to see them bring in a mentor for spring training who is not one of the regular coaches. He really doesn't -- he is 23. He may be able to incrementally improve, but you are looking at a large part of what we are going to get.
  8. That song Milkshake... It's just not that good.
  9. Based on my life-long research in nuclear energy and its potential for super-powers, I am not sure why we don't send TGJ and Craig Counsell to the plant, so if there is a leak/radioactive insects/explosion Counsell and TGJ can perform at a higher level (.267 .362 .434) perhaps and give us a much deeper bench. It seems like we have been given the pieces to this puzzle, the feat remains to interlock them together.
  10. but it seems like Braun and Weeks make a lot of throwing errors They do -- what bothers me about Weeks, is that when he is making a relay on a 2xplay, he never can get the ball to Prince more than 6 inches off the ground. When Weeks doesn't make this throw, it doesn't show up in the stats.
  11. * I'd love to see Melvin do something drastic to try and help the team defense (Braun to a corner OF spot, Hall to 3B, Hart to CF), but I don't see it happening. This would be the best thing IMO the Brewers could do in the off-season. I'd even like to see Weeks moved to the OF if a good 2b is more attainable in a trade than a corner OF. If the team defense is as bad in 2008 as it is this year -- we will be writing these sorts of threads in Oct. of 2008. I guess I would rather embrace the fact that Weeks/Braun are great offense players that are limited defensively and move them to positions where they can succeed overall. I feel that, "hoping" that Braun/Weeks improve defensively, is a big gamble, and would be the equivalent of "hoping" TGJ hits 15-20 HRs next year and is a corner OF platoon option, or "hoping" that Brian Shouse is an option to get RHers out. I agree LaPorta is not a possibility for 2008. Fire Ned Yost -- I know that this is not a Ned Yost thread http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif -- however, if DM wants to bring Yost back for 2008, then I am holding DM responsible for putting together a BP that is as studly and fool-proof as possible. BP management is not Yost's strengths, and the thought of Yost+BP with a lot of warts = No playoffs for 2008. If Yost brings other strengths to the table, then DM should compensate for his weaknesses.
  12. 1. Hall would follow up his best season by falling on his face. Hall was a disappointment -- I am sure his move to CF didn't help. 2. Jenkins and Mench would put up pretty poor numbers despite playing with a platoon advantage all season. I think everyone was prepared for Mench to suck, I don't think we were prepared to see Mench get so many ABs against RHP from Yost. 3. Capuano instead of being a solid #2 starter would not win a game the second half of the season.(Not his fault completley) Yost didn't help Cappy at all, with the BP. or otherwise. 4. Sheets would be out for a good portion of the season. Sheets missed about 10 starts. Yost stupidly pitched him on 3 days rest. Our rotation made a high pct. of its starts. -- plus guys like Yo and Villy filled in admirably for Sheets. 5. I don't think anybody thought we had a good defense, but I don't think anybody thought it would be as bad as it has. The defense was horrible. I agree 100%. How many is debatable, but I suspect it is no more than 2-3. I am quite certain it was more than 2-3. I don't want to blame Yost exclusively for 2007, however I think Yost sucks at managing -- and I have seen enough of his circus these last 5 years. My new concern is that he hasn't endeared himself to the fans, and I think he has fostered an adversarial relationship with a lot of the Brewers fanbase.
  13. I see a team that was only expected to win 82-85 games and be in 2nd or 3rd place in the division by most people before the season started. I don't see this sort of reasoning valid to measure your manager. I think collectively BFnet thought that the NL Central would be weak, and that turned out to be the case. I would guess that most people here thought that a .500 record would keep Brewers in the playoff race. However if some one would have told BFnet that: 1. Prince will have 50+ jacks 2. Braun would produce MVP numbers 3. The team would set a team record for HRs 4. CoCo would have his saves streak. I suspect our expectations would have collectively risen. After watching most of the games, I just feel this team left a lot of games on the table that most managers would not have.
  14. I believe that Melvin might have played with Randolph in the Yankees organization Randolph came up through the Pirate org.
  15. shouldn't Melvin be fired for making the bad decision of retaining such a lousy manager in Yost? Yes. If I were Mark A., and if Melvin retained Yost, I'd fire Melvin 5 minutes later.
  16. That Prince Fielder is a legitimate stud and will have had an MVP season shortly. And Ryan Braun will be ROTY soon as well. And Rickie Weeks IS who we thought he would be, as long as his wrist is ok. Agreed. However I hope we learned that we can't understate the defensive liabilities that these 3 players (and Bill Hall in CF) bring to the game. We learned that Melvin is not an infallible genius, and he needs to have a better offseason We learned that Yost getting ejected/suspended and calling out the fans, in the last week of the season is counterproductive. We learned that OBP is just as (if not more) vital than SLG. I personally have learned that "treadng water" is most often a precursor to drowning, which is how I would describe our collective effort from 2005-2007.
  17. But if Weeks can improve is D, then maybe Braun can to. Weeks and Braun are different players at different positions -- I remain optimistic -- but their efforts/successes/failures are independent.
  18. I love how the BBTN analysts are useless goats unless they are making points that back up certain posters' arguments. No -- they are always useless goats -- I think the point being made, is that they have noticed Ned, and it's just not BF.net/intertube people that are pointing out Ned's stupidity.
  19. Yes, but nobody is going to be tossed for something that didn't look intentional in the least. Hall's HBP wasn't intentional
  20. Dear Cool T-shirt: See you in a Sally Struthers commercial, Regards FTJ
  21. I'll have to agree with you both except for one thing (and I don't want to put words in anybody's mouth), in my opinion, he's fatter than joey. I read this and was thoroughly confused, my slow moving hamster wheel ground to a halt -- The first thing that came to my head was "Aquino fields his position better", and then I blurted out "Math is on my side". If you are being mean to me, I am going to get McClung loose -- I am going to have insist you stand perfectly still, and be somewhat patient, but I am pretty sure he will hit you eventually. That will learn you.
  22. Why do you believe they should be in first place by several games? If you could turn back the clock, what would you go back and change to make that reality? I believe that the Brewers should be in first place because the management did not use its talent effectively or efficiently. If I could turn back the clock, I would fire Dale Sveum, promote Ned to bench coach, and insert myself as manager (seeing how I can turn back the clock). Then I would pretty much ask Ned his opinion and do the opposite. I would never talk to players about grit and battling.
  23. May the pennant race be related to this, too? I mean, perhaps guys are playing hard because they want to win? Without a doubt. I don't know this -- but I do not get the impression that our young players are behind Ned at all. I think they are playing hard for contracts/place in the rotation -- or because they are competitive and want to win (or some combination). I don't think JJ Hardy e.g., has Ned on his myspace buddies list, -- but of course that is only my speculation.
  24. But, my main issue is that I just have little time for the constant loser's lament - it's the managers fault. I don't think its Ned's fault -- I just think he sucks at managing The players are still going at it with 100% effort and a lot of that has to do with the respect they have for him You don't know this -- I am sure $$$ and their competitive nature has a lot to do with it. McClung had taken over Wise's role (remember Ned said he would no longer use Wise in close games), and it was his job to get throught that inning, not hit Pujols. Why wouldn't have Yost just brought in Turnbow then with no one on?
