  1. I am just thinking that we could have an economical summary of questionable decisions, game-by-game, without the venting (which I have been known to indulge in myself). Good idea.... People can post their "strategy analysis" -- and I will put up a summary at the end of the game, for here on out for 2007. firenedyost.com
  2. It's hard for me to picture Hall having better defense in CF than Hart. It's hard for me to picture Braun be even an average defender at 3B. It's hard for me to picture Jenkins being around next year. I agree. Whether that's a good move, Melvin needs to recognize that the team defense has to improve somehow. Agreed again, Our D has been to us in 2007 what injuries were to us in 2006. For as much BFnet looks at things like batting order, we really gloss over the crappy team D. Hall in CF, and Hart in RF for '08. & i don't think one is drastically better than the other... I merged Al and Pogo's statements -- Hall is a brutal CFer. Hart is an above average RF. Hall is worse than a replacement player on a team that would win 25 games in a season. I think Hart is much better The only reason he (Hall) is not out there for us if our depth, I doubt it -- It is in a large part that is because Hall's WARP is well below Juan Pierre's. braun stays at third...at least for the next 2 seasons Good god I hope no. Unless he improves on D, he will have to sustain his MVP level production at the plate to be an overall positive. It seems smarter to me to move the players, rather than bet the bankon their improvement
  3. Had to go to the kitchen and get a beer, look for a bottle opener, etc...
  4. Sadly, the chromosomes did not cooperate. Yeah Daughters = Trouble
  5. I have defended Ned Yost all year, but I have no defense for what happened last night. Woah! -- I sense a shift in the balance of the force.
  6. My point is that Yost couldn't have possibly known that Dave was going to run the bases. ???? Unless you are saying that Yost is too stupid to comprehend that a batter like Dillon hitting after Bush would force him to run?
  7. Special Lady Friend - You are coming to bed now. Heh Kat -- I had a similar issue last night as well -- however my wife was 100% bluffing and I knew it. She was hoping that I would chose the ballgame over her, which would get her off the hook, and then give her the trump card to be able to shut me down the next 100 times when I had any crazy ideas. But to make a short story even shorter, I called her bluff, and 4 minutes and 15 seconds later, I am in my big chair in the front room with a beer, idiotically ignorant to the impending Yosting. I am so smart.
  8. Reporter: Ned, didn't you see that the kid had two Os lined up along the bottom? Why'd you put your X in the center? Yost: I was in the flow of the game...you gotta take the center square when it's offered, especially on the road. I've won twice before when taking the center square. Thanks for that -- http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif As far as replacing Braun -- Why doesn't it occur to Ned to replace Weeks ever. I know Rickie hit an HR last night, but generally speaking Weeks is bad defensively -- but Braun is an MVP type bat. I just don't think he thinks, he does. Please fire Ned. Please.
  9. Congrats Russ! -- Hope it goes well. I am assuming you are naming the baby Quevedo
  10. Fannie Flag -- Is pretty respected in the literary circles -- She gives a lot of speeches and whatnot at universities. -- I say this in regard to a game show panelist. The only gal on that show I thought was hot, was the one that was married to Bobby Van -- I can't remember her name though.
  11. And yet every game, he makes several nice plays blocking balls in the dirt. 1.) He is fat and slow. He blocks a lot of things. 2.) Carlos Lee blocked a ball in the OF last night, it doesn't mean he isn't a sloppy/lazy fielder. Estrada is about the worst Catcher in the NL handling pitches I have seen in a long time, he backhands everything and rarely tries to move his body to get in front of the ball. His cERA is the same as Miller's, so if indeed Damian calls a better game and/or throws better (either of which, I could believe), it does not save the team any runs. I don't think anyone here thinks that Miller is a stellar catcher at this point of his career. Comparing Estrada to Miller doesn't make either of them better compared to the league. Estrada's FRAA is -7 -- so clearly overall, he is a negative on our team defensively. I see most of this as simply being a reaction to Estrada being husky, Seriously? There are a lot of slams on Estrada on this board -- rarely does criticism focus around his gravitational pull -- He has a WARP of 1.8 -- which just isn't good. which may or may not be related to his lingering injury It is more probable that his injury is a result of being out-of-shape and less than diligent manner in taking care of himself. The Brewers fanboard's are not the first to call out Estrada
  12. Is Fried Green Tomatoes about the other team? I'm not sure -- I assumed it was about tomatoes, and frying them.
  13. She plays for the other team. She wrote Fried Green Tomatoes.
  14. It would take a lot, but don't discount anything too early. Sure, there is no reason to give up on that chance -- But this is the Cubs. Sooner or later something will go horribly wrong for them. It's got to...right? I'd rather be chasing the Cards with their crappy pitching. If you believe that "something has to go wrong" -- those things have happened to the Cubs in the playoffs in the past as well. The Cubs have a cakewalk sched., they have some guys that can hit, some guys that can pitch, and a manager with a lot of pennant race experience.
  15. Not to change the subject, and maybe this was discussed in another thread, but anyone thought about what the pitching match up would be if the Cubs and Brewers had to play a tie breaker. My guess, is that both rotations would be dumped into the BP, and people like Z and/or Sheets would be pitching on little rest. When I lived in OR -- Sea played a tie-game-breaker against the Angels, and they had everyone ready to go. I think Randy Johnson ended up pitching on 3 days rest, and they had a bunch of the starters in the pen, but then the game ended up not being close.
  16. I am OK about Anderson -- My general philosophy is that the best announcers "don't piss me off". Sort of like umpires I guess, after the game if I forget about your performance, you probably did a good job. I really don't pay attention to what they say, and largely I tune them out. I hated Sutton. So overall I am happy with BA.
  17. 87 wins might be enough for the WC (assuming they win at least 3 vs. Padres). I think that there is a really small chance (less than 1%) that either the Cubs or Brewers take the WC -- Not only do we have to get past SD, but Philly as well, and for Philly to lose means ATL has to win, so it would take quite a win streak, and probably sweeps of SD and ATL for that to happen.
  18. If you take Tulo over Braun, you have to take Pence over Braun as well. No -- Tulo has a much higher WARP over Pence/Braun. Pence and Braun are in the same ballpark, -- I do think Braun and Pence are pretty close though, and it I could certainly understand putting Pence ahead of Braun, but right now I would give Braun the nod, especially considering he is helping the Brewers lead Ned Yost to the playoffs.
  19. My guess would be that there were far fewer (at least 20% less) different batting orders used by teams back then. I think at the end of the day -- you would probably see about what you do now. Some managers were the tweaker kind (Rogers) and some like Kuehn probably ran the same lineup out there day after day. There were managers that used their bench, and there were some that never used it. I think when you see a team that has a lot of lineups, that is probably more a function of injuries and player/personnel changes, rather than changes in lineup philosophy.
  20. Gallardo's ranked 5th in VORP for rookie pitchers in the NL. I think he'd be far from a shoo-in. Yep. My guess is that if you looked at strictly pitchers the voting would go. I would be surprised if Gallardo gets more votes than Linecum. 1.) Linecum 2.) Gallardo 3.) Moylan. If I had a ballot -- I would probably go something like 1.) Tulo 2.) Braun 3.) Pence 4.) Linecum 5.) Yo
  21. I think the winner of the NL Central -- be it the Cubs or Brewers will have 85 wins
  22. So did Dave Bush disappear from the face of the earth? We can only hope. One of Vargas/Cappy/Bush will be #5 --the other 2 could potentially give us some solid bullpen depth -- especially if we assume Linebrink and Cordero are gone. The other option would be to move them in trades. How many 8th and 9th inning comebacks have the cubs had this year? They lost a lot of close games like this to start the year. -- They have had their bad luck as well.
  23. The only problems I had were Estrada batting 5th for too long, and TGJ and Mench getting a few too many starts earlier in the year. I agree -- I would think with the lack of injuries to our position players, and lack of personnel movement -- our lineup totals would be pretty low
  24. This protest has about 0% chance of being anything more than paperwork getting shuffled around. The most famous protest I can think of would be the pine-tar game in 1982 -- they ended up replaying that game from the point of the HR.
  25. This topic was brought up in the chat room, and I got booted for pursuing the argument, but I'd like to see what your guy's take was on this. My take is that you should have been booted sooner
