  1. So how does that work. -- do you watch the non-HD channels on the HD TV? -- does your TV somehow make an adjustment?
  2. Hi -- I am considering getting a HD TV -- and I currently subscribe to DTV. -- After perusing their website, it seems like their HD channel offering is pretty meager -- Is this in fact true, or have I missed something? (added tag --1992)
  3. People can do good jobs and bad jobs, regardless of their skill levels. Musicians make bad albums and good albums, Actors have good performances and bad performances. Both you and I know he didn't forget to manage, and I realize that you are being silly -- however that doesn't at all mean that he has done as good a job this year as he has in years past. It is possible for good managers to perform poorly and get fired.
  4. I like that team out of Warner-Robins.... I have been really enjoying the Mariners this year -- they keep just hanging in there. I also respect what the Phillies have done this year given their awful start. I agree with others the D-backs are a good team to root for as well.. DougJones43= FAIRWEATHER fan. DougJones43 is rocksolid in my book.
  5. Any chance that Villenueva returns to the rotation this week? Perhaps. If you look at Villy's game log -- he has given up runs in about 13 of his last 16 appearances -- I really do not think he will perform any better than Cappy or Vargas have been.
  6. Let me take a crack at this.... I believe that the NL MVP will come from a .500 team that makes the playoffs. I believe that the elderly are dead weight. I believe that Peter Cetera and Dennis De Young had a bet in the early 80's to see who could ruin their band's legacy the fastest I believe someone in the Brewers payroll office will find out Dale Sveum is getting a paycheck. I believe people from Delaware tell tourists Kevin Mench is from Rhode Island I believe that if one of my inlaws uses one of my Terrible Towels again to wipe their hands or face, I will be officially out of bubble gum. I believe people stopped trying to make good action movies after Gymkata made its theatrical debut. I believe that if Ned gets fired from the Brewers, and joins a NASCAR pit crew he will leave the tires on too long. I believe that the Brewers defense could not catch leprosy on Kalaupapa. I believe that a lot of people need to pull up their pants. I believe 90% of the female populace finds me very attractive I believe snowmobiling is the best evidence to the existence of evolution. I believe that the letter "W" should be given a one-syllable name.
  7. Is there any chance that Attanssio is angry enough right about now to fire Yost or is he too gutless to make the move. I hope IF MA makes a move it is because it makes sense, not because he is superpissed. I am sure if Yost was a Taylor hire -- DM would have fired him long ago. I am all for firing Yost -- I would have fired him at the end of 2006, that said -- I don't think firing him in 2007 mid-season makes a lot of sense, unless you had some one like Robin Yount come in and manage, and that would appease the bandwagon fans and their ticket money, i.e., a manager that would make people come to the park.
  8. This pitching staff is a trainwreck, and it's absolutely embarrassing. I mean, they're seriously giving up 5+ runs in like 8 of every 10 games! I don't want to argue your vent, rather add to it. The pitching should not be absolved, but the team defense is a joke as well. It seems like every throw from the OF is up the line. Estrada refuses to do anything but backhand pitches., etc... At this point, we may as well start Zach Jackson, Manny Parra, and CV. It can't get any worse. With this defense I dont think "it" can get any better. I think that the only pitcher that could get wins in front of this defense, is a pitcher that can strike out 12-15 batters per start.
  9. I don't know whats worse...that Vargas couldn't make it through the first inning or that Capuano can't even be trusted as a mop up guy anymore. Vargas is Vargas -- Capuano getting shelled in a mop-up is very unsettling.
  10. The Psychic Detective shows piss me off -- but other than that -- it is good fun.
  11. I think you are trying to read way to much into it. Basically if you look two team's losses -- you know what their "best case scenario" is, i.e., you know what will happen if they win all of their remaining games. So basically if the Cardinals win all their remaining games, and the Brewers do as well, the best the Cards could do is one game behind the Brewers. This is just a little quick and dirty measure. There is certainly nothing scientific about it. It is really a bar-room stat. I suspect though -- the Cards are closer to us than GB indicates because they have played 3 less games than us.
  12. My wife and I watch and enjoy a lot of the Court TV programming.
  13. I think that the game that was the previous record holder for most runs in a game, had some funny business associated with it, where one team "sat out" in protest of Ty Cobb -- something like that. 30 runs is unreal
  14. I think managers should do it more often. Heh. Could you imagine the outrage if Craig Counsell would have taken the mound in one of our recent losses and started hamming it up? I remember the Bando and Gantner games well from when I was a kid.
  15. Have they ever done George Scott or Sixto Lezcano?
  16. Wow -- I can sort of relate to this. We have three kids -- One of my son's friends (nice kid) has a mom (nice lady) who dates a lot of the local barflies, and at any given time they could be living in her house. My son's friend will ask my son to stay over night, but we don't let him because we do not know the adults that could be at the house -- I dont think that is over the top. I can tell you though, there is nothing that can tear a family apart like well-intentioned members getting in between parents and their kids. My inlaws are constantly busting my chops, and it has damaged their relationship with my wife, so be careful how you approach this. At the end of the day, you seem to care about your nephew -- and he seems to need a good male role model. Just remember you are the adult in the relationship, and you should be able to be more flexible and patience with your nephew's issues, than he is with your issues. Be a consistent and stable part of his life, and start out small. I have a special needs daughter, and if I have learned one thing, is that being a part of a child's life, is a lifetime commitment, and patience is the greatest asset you can stockpile. For example -- maybe give him rubber gloves or something when he pees, so at least initially he isn't peeing on the floor. Make sure when you buy him treats, you buy him ones with sticks so his fingers don't get messy -- after all -- sharing a treat with you happily, and not peeing on the floor is what it is all about -- it's not about facilitating his phobias but rather the more positive experiences you and he share, the more he will trust you to help him get over his hurdles. Build some trust and be really patient. I really have a soft spot in my heart for little dudes that do not have a positive male role model. I really applaud your concern, and hope you remain encouraged to be a part of your nephew's life. If you ever need any ideas, or have any ?s, or just need to bounce things around -- do not hesitate to give me a holler.
  17. Oh geez, what's with all this Gallardo pitch limit stuff? Check out the Marlins-- They burned up a lot of young arms last year, and then this year had to put BY Kim in their rotation -- I'm sure Kim will be available for our rotation next year if we blow up Yo and Parra, but let's assume none of us want to see that happen.
  18. Congrats Brian -- I offer: http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b68/The_Wizard_of_OZ/root/January/toilet_seat.jpg
  19. Ennder had a great thread about this -- In short, I think it is silly to think that pulling Cappy/Suppan/Bush/Vargas from the rotation will lead to our WOAHS SOLVDD, w/oour defense stepping up.
  20. I'm not convinced that Gross has the stuff to be an everyday starter but he deserves to be on someone's 25 man roster. I think this is the same conclusion many people had. A team needs a 4th OFer, and I would rather it be Gross than Nix, or TGJ. He can get good OBP -- and can hit HRs, he is not a total hack in the field, and is relatively cheap. Sounds like a superb 4th/5th OFer.
  21. Jeff Suppan reverts to the form he showed last October I thought Suppan pitched well enough last night -- I think that while we really blame our WHOAS on our rotation -- Last night's game should have magnified that not many pitchers are going to put up sub 4.00 ERAs playing in front of that defense.
  22. But, for me personally, this brand of baseball is not what I've waited for. Limping along at three games above .500, bad defense, bad starting pitching, and mediocre offense is not my idea of a good time. It's just bad baseball. I couldn't agree more. I don't need to see .680 pct baseball to be entertained -- but the games the last 2 weeks have been especially brutal. The Brewers should be pretty embarrassed by the product they are rolling out on the field these last 3-4 series.
  23. I've been listening to a lot of John Fahey recently. He certainly isn't new -- but in the offchance someone here hasn't been exposed to him -- give it a listen.
  24. Sheets injury history could be ignored, but why? It is what it is and that's not real good. I agree -- Like anything, Sheets salary will be determined by the market and what he has done -- and those injuries have impacted his ability to rack up stats.
  25. I think Simmons has had problems with his heart -- I know he had to resign from the Pirates because of that. I don't think he would be looking to be a manager
