  1. Not sure that would go over well in court or to police officers Maybe not -- the point is, he would get the opportunity to defend himself -- he would have the right to be represented in court.
  2. because the way it sounds like, he wants to blame everyone else but his son.. I have not read anything that would give me this impression -- I think that the dad feels the obligation to represent the family. Again, just because someone is drunk does not mean that they necessarily caused or are responsible for the accident. It is possible that if that tow truck was in the wrong place for too long, a perfectly sober person could have slammed into it as well.
  3. Notice where the blame should fall. Where? -- In your 2 sentence recap? - C'mon -- let's not pretend we are privy to all of the information, or that these sorts of situations are black & white. --Just because Hancock was drunk, does not mean he casued the accident -- It would wrong to presume that. The courts will decide who is to blame. If Hancock was alive he would have the right to defend himself.
  4. I wonder if Hancock's dad is just in denial that his son is at fault here. Sounds like he's just lashing out and everyone and anything in order to deflect blame from Josh. He could very well be, or, he could be trying to get to the bottom of things, and making sure no one else was at fault when Josh was killed. I certainly understand the negative sentiment towards Josh's drunk driving, but his dad is a guy who lost his son -- I don't understand why there is such a negative reaction to him.
  5. Sorry, but Mr. Hancock is a giant douche. And a turd sandwich. C'mon. This is just unnecessary. I am pretty sure a person that would call a father who lost his son a turd, has any business expressing his/her opinion as it is probably nothing more than the braying of a jackass.
  6. Joey not start a big deal or anything. But how is this taking care of his son. Is he thinking that this might clear his name of wrong doing or that it will pay for any bills he had out there? I have been in a family situation very very similar to this one. Josh's father lost his son out of the blue. That sort of shock, unless you have dealt with it, is impossible to comprehend. It is pretty easy for any of us to throw rocks at Mr. Hancock and call him "classless", and that is the sentiment I have a problem with. I find it very shallow to assume that this man is primarily striking at the opportunity to make money off of his son's death, without ever meeting this man, or being privy to the facts of the case. Do his lawsuits have merit? -- That is impossible to say at this point. He has every right to investigate his son's death, and make sure that IF someone was in fact accountable, they are made responsible. As much negative press as Josh is going to get these last few weeks, I suspect his father feels the need to be Josh's advocate. As I stated in my original post, Mr. Hancock's perspective may be skewed, -- and perhaps in a few weeks/months after all the evidence comes to light, he may change his mind, and his course of action. If it helps him get through this time in his life, I think it is what he needs to do.
  7. Classless, imo, to try to make money off of your own son's tragically stupid death. I don't agree with this sentiment -- The man lost his son, and that sort of grief tends to skew a person's perspective. I doubt he sees this as a "get rich" opportunity -- rather it is some way of taking care of his son.
  8. The original URL for Creedthoughts was purposefully invalid because Ryan wanted to shield the world from Creed's brain. It was just a Word Doc. Right -- However, -- like the phone # from the pervert hotline -- I thought that the URL might actually work The actor that plays Ryan I think is the show's lead writer, I can't imagine that his role will diminish at all in the upcoming season
  9. If I had to pick one. BSCR hands down for me.
  10. Say Sheets throws a perfect game from here on out. Stevo -- To answer your question -- there can be an error in a Perfect game. I believe in Larsen's WS perfect game, Berra misplayed a foul ball. The bottom line is no one can reach 1b. Another tough loss for Sheets. He just can't seem to catch a break. Mench is not hitting anyone right now, lefty or otherwise. Mench has a .286 OPS in May (only one 2b). The idea that Yost is running him into the ground playing him against RHP is not entirely true. I dont think he would OPS .500 off of a tee at this point.Claudio Vargas is a better option at the plate than Mench. I really like how Spurling has improved so far this year, I suspect that he will get clubbed one of these nights, but outside of one HR, he has really pitched well in May. I can't say I think Capellan would have done any better than Spurling has this year. I think going into this year, many of us thought our offensive would be a weak point, and I suppose this is evidence of that argument. I don't think Sheets got outpitched, but our bats didn't answer the call.
  11. Brian how can I become a "Brewerfan.net All-Star"? Oh, there's got to be a way if people think outside the box.....
  12. Probably only about half or so of standard cards are centered properly. It's really more a function of the age of the card. Back in the day, the centering would be a function of the position of the card on the sheet, cards on the edges would be off-center more than others. Some cards are harder to find centered than they are to find uncentered from the old Topps sets -- a 1979 Ozzie Smith is really hard to find centered. Nowadays with computer controlled blades, and better card stock, centering is not as big as an issue. To answer your question.... In 1983 there were 3 card companies -- Donruss, Fleer and Topps, you have a Fleer card. Sandberg had a card in all three sets. The Topps card being the most desirable of the 3. I would say that the Fleer/Donruss would probably sell for about 5$ with the Topps going for 8-10$ (ungraded). I would say, with the Sandberg sig, you have a card worth about 20$-40$.
  13. I don't care about the ER's he's not pitching well. I notice that there is a trend to dismiss results like runs allowed, and there is a tendency to call pitchers like Vargas (who haven't allowed as many runs scored) as "lucky", and pitchers like Bush (who have whored up a lot of runs ) as "unlucky". Fine. whatever. I think that something like "pitching well" is a pretty subjective label, and regardless of the methodology used to process data -- to use such a subjective label in a difinitive manner, is very problematic.
  14. Bogut isn't a bust yet - I agree -- Esp. when you look at the coaching he has had to work with.
  15. I liked that Batman show. I always thought that those thugs should have shown a little pride after continually getting there butts kicked by a 15 yr. old kid. I think there was an episode where Robin had his learners permit or something. I would think if you were a thug, you would at the minimum be able to whip ass on a 15-16 year old kid, but then again, you probably wouldn't have your name stenciled on your shirt either.
  16. Someone should track down that URL from Creed's blog and see if it works. -- I didn't have the chance to write it down, or notice if it was even sensical
  17. but isn't it duct tape? Yeah -- Don't get me started on tapes and their misuse. My wife tends to think masking tape = packing tape = electrical tape. Many times during a year I will see my wife using my electrical tape to send a package to her brother. Angers me to no end. The tape industry has done a great job putting descriptive adjectives before their tape to let consumers know how the tape is intended to be used. Back in the day a lot of your ducting would be plastic and the such -- so you would use the tape to repair/patch ducting behind your dryer e.g. Here's the problem though -- these people came along. http://www.ageslibrary.com/temp/ducktape.JPG and now we have "Duck Tape". Gah! BTW -- The most common and early references to the word fag-got comes from when they burned people at the stake, the fag-got would be a bundle of sticks (we would call kindling) they would use to ignite the fire. I think the term was used in Old English a slur against old women as well, much like we use word "hag"
  18. Creed is the best. Yeah -- that clip where they substituted his apple for a potato cracked me up.
  19. But OBP does not ignore base hits. It's just a more complete stat. Agreed
  20. Don't worry, FTJ. I got your back! What What!!
  21. There should be a way to simulate Branyan v. Sanchez. I trust that the best labratories in Europe are well into cloning Branyan, -- to help rebuild their continent -- I suspect though Sanchez is probably further down the "Who should we clone" list though. In the mean time someone here has to have a sim program that can do this.
  22. I thought he yelled "I did it!" As in, he killed Chris and got that monkey off his back. I thought it was "I get it" as well.. That peyote stuff usually gets tied into people going on self-discovery trips.
  23. About 4 of his 14 walks were to get to the pitcher and 2 times he scored, Bush double and the Victorino error. WHOA -- I do not want to awaken and enrage the Craig Counsell fan base, I am only one man http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif I use Counsell as an example, of a guy whose OBP gives people the impression that he is a formidable offensive weapon or asset. I think though my biggest gripe is that anytime my wife is watching the game with me we have the following dialogue "Why does he bat like that". I have no idea. "I would think that he would get more hits if he didn't bat like that" I don't know "Why doesnt the coach make him change" That's a good question "I think the Brewers coach sucks" He certainly does. etc. It's even happened to me at MP, where some dude will be sitting next to me for 7 innings and say nothing, and then lean over and say "Why does he bat like that?" If a pitcher throws you balls, you are unlikely to get a hit, so it's better to walk. Perhaps. -- In some cases certainly, however again I think it points to your place in the lineup or the game situation. If you are a guy like a TGJ, yeah a walk is as probably as good as most of his hits. But for a guy like Prince, I'd rather see him try to crush a ball thats off the plate than work pitchers exclusively for BBs. It's like when teams do shifts on batters, and all a batter would have to do is bunt the ball down the third base line to get on base, but they never do it, because that batter probably represents the team's best chance at scoring runs.
  24. I am still trying to wrap my mind around the idea of an All-Branyan v. All-Sanchez game. The most interesting aspect of this proposed matchup would be a bench-clearing brawl. BA is worthless. A .250 hitter can be really good or useless...that's the definition of a stat that means nothing. I disagree -- when used in concert with other stats BA has a use. Case in point: Thus, I can't really put much weight into, say, Counsell's 2007 OBP. There should be some way to weight the fact that he bats #8 so frequently. Agreed -- Counsell has about as many hits as he does BBs, and as Valpo astutely points out, they are primarily to get to the pitcher, except in the cases where the pitcher hits better than Counsell. Whats bothering me here is that people are saying "Counsell has the 4th best OBP on the Brewers" as if he has offensive value. Also stats like walk/K ratios don't hold a lot of water for a guy like Estrada who doesn't do either very often. I have to admit, I am first and foremost a Tigers fan. I think they have 12 step programs for this. -- (Great posts!) Urbina was getting into drunk fights on the plane, Let's not forget lighting people on fire for using his hot tub... And so far, it looks like Yost is fostering an agressive, winning attitude. Let's hope so -- although I am ready to dial back the agressive baserunning a bit. It is hard for me to compare Leyland and Yost, Leyland has taken 3 different teams to the post-season, Yost I think, has a few more corners to navigate (bullpen management). We may have some very knowledgable people on this board, but we also have quite a few emotional ones. Its a long season guys, relax a bit. Let's not pretend that the "Knowledgable" and "Emotional" sets do not intersect on the BFnet Venn diagram. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  25. All I want is to go on a date with someone nice and at least relatively attractive (we all have different opinions), yet my 12 year old cousins have more dating experience. Resist the urge to date your experienced cousins, nothing good will come out of that http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
