  1. Call me crazy, but this strikes me as exactly the type of Wisconsin team that stumbles into the tourney and somehow makes it to the Sweet 16. Let's see -- Badger Sweet 16 appearances. (Let me qualify this post understanding that seeding is not exact.) 2000 -- We were a 8 seed. 2003 -- We were a 5 seed. 2005 -- We were a 6 seed. 2008 -- We were a 3 seed. In 2008, we should have made the sweet sixteen as we were the higher seed (should have made the elite eight as well facing a 10 seed, we faced the 11 seed as well, KSU in the second rd.). In 2005, we were helped to our elite eight position by facing the #10, (NCS 3rd rd) and #14 seeds (Bucknell 2nd rd) In 2003, we were helped to the Sweet Sixteen by facing #13 Tulsa (2nd rd.). In 2000, we faced the 9, 4, 1 and 6 seeds in that order... So it seems to me that in our S16 appearances -- 2003, 2005, 2008 were mostly a result of favorable tourney matchups. In 2000 -- We finished the season strong, going to the big 10 tourney championship, and went basically the last 2 months of the seasons beating every team that wasn't MSU. Now, if you are saying -- the Badgers are good enough to win favorable matchups if the chips fall their way -- I agree. I don't think this team is playing well enough to beat a #1 or a #2 seed like the 2000 team was. This team reminds me of the Badger teams that stumble into the first round, and will get blasted by a major conference team like the 97 team or the 06 team.
  2. Drat! I still had several choice volleys left in me. Like this one. Let's see what you got
  3. I've never understood why Weeks hasn't been tried out there. In 2005, Clark was having a good season, and I think DM knew in the back of his mind that he was going to give Clark a deal.
  4. That would give us crappy production out of 3b and RF
  5. Stupid cats...or rather, cats are for dipwads. You beat me to the punch... Cats are like a Ned Yost press conference, surly and pointless.
  6. Marqutte shouldn't fall below a 6 seed... Anyone see that Uconn 6 OT game -- Holy Moly.
  7. I don't think they are playing those instruments. Nothing beats this song on the annoying level. I understand that Vanilla Ice is annoying beyond recognition, but Ice Ice Baby is a genius effort.
  8. It's great, because now people tell me I have a nice accent. Of course, they guess Minnesota. Dang it. When I lived in OR people accused me of being Canadian.
  9. Nice one. While we're sharing obscure 60's and 70's music, here's an instrumental I could use.....although it loses much of its steam without the video. I love Apache -- I am beginning to wonder if Kanye really bothered you at all.... ?
  10. Leslie Gore may drive them nuts -- If you want them to kill each other play this:
  11. I would explain to him how that guy got moved for a guy who had relatively no big league experience and was injured the last couple years. A couple of things... 1.) It's no longer 1985 2.) Yount couldn't make the throw from SS any longer. My feeling is that we wouldn't get much in trade for Hardy unless we trade him by the trading deadline this year. What is reasonable to expect for one year of a guy? I think we could get good value for him. Especially to a team that could extend him -- but if the Brewers are tanking this year -- it may be smart to trade him sooner.
  12. I was also thinking about Escobar at 2nd. 2nd makes more sense than 3rd, but still -- it seems like a waste to me. I just don't think Hardy+Escobar as starters is an optimal situation for the Brewers. I certainly could see Escobar filling in for Weeks to get acclimated to MLB hitting, or if Weeks gets hurt -- but as a long-term solution Hardy+Escobar should not be everyday starters in the same lineup.
  13. Whether they're both in Milwaukee or not, they will certainly both help the Brewers get better. I think if they are both starting in Milwaukee at the same time it will not be optimal -- I certainly agree that having an AS and a hot prospect at the same position is a good dilemma to have, and I think that is your point -- however I think that there are more effective options for the Brewers than having JJ and Escobar playing 3b and SS at the same time. JJ Hardy is going to get paid here pretty quick -- and I do not want any part of paying him SS money to play 3b, it would be a terrible waste of resources. I'd rather have some sort of Branyan platoon than paying Hardy $$$$ to play 3b.
  14. No hotter than Matty V's recent dropping of the F-bomb on air. That was probably more the fault of a studio guy...
  15. He is a downgrade to Gwynn or Duffy without a doubt. I don't think he is a downgrade to Gwynn -- I think Roberts is a much better baserunner and fielder, however, I am not onboard with signing Roberts.
  16. 100 losses in 2002 isn't a worse managing job than Ned did in his years? Correct. Ned would have lost 200 games in 2002. Ned Yost was worse than Cop Rock, the good thing about Cop Rock was that it lasted only one episode. In your 40 year history you can't find a worse closer than Turnbow With substantial innings, I would agree. Ryan Braun has had 1 season in left field but he's your all-time best left fielder? CC Sabathia 1/2 of a season (an outstanding 1/2 I'll admit) put's him on your list? Agreed on both counts. Braun has been great, but in the same vein -- we would have put Cal Eldred on this list in 1992 I also know that Rob Deer struck out a lot but for those that want to include Branyan on the good list why not Deer? Another great point -- Deer was the guy who started the whole 3TO craze. My guess -- it's the first name "Russell" If we need a LOOGY -- It probably should be Bob McClure.
  17. I think it's likely that the Astros will have overpaid by $20M, and I think it's highly possible that they will end up overpaying closer to $30-$35M by the end of the deal. That is all very reasonable -- but as it stands today -- Lee's contract has not been a bad one -- you could very well end up being right, but it's all a lot of guesswork and assumptions at this point. I would certainly agree that Lee's contract is "potentially problematic" -- but I don't see it as bad at this point. I'd rather give Lee and the Astros the benefit of the doubt, until things go bad. On the flip side -- I think that the Riske deal has been a bad one for the Brewers -- but it certainly could get better by what Riske does in the next 2 years -- but I don't think it is fair to call it a "good" deal at this point. There are clearly contracts that are bad in the here and now -- Andruw Jones for example... Torii Hunter's is another one that is bad as well.
  18. I hated Fallon when he was on SNL. I don't think his show will do well -- but I really don't think the guy is funny. I think someone like Dave Attel would do a good job.
  19. Given that it was just shortly after the civil rights period of the 60s his personality did rub some the wrong way but screw them. He used to wear a batting helmet when he was play 1b, because people chucked things at him.
