  1. All Wisconsinites are pined for on this site and it is embarrassing to hear about trade ideas for Taschner and Washburn so they can pitch to Rottino…nice battery. Honestly -- Has anyone ever actually said this?
  2. I'm probably too high on Pena based on his pure stuff but if I had to pick between more mediocre at best SP depth and Pena, I'm keeping Pena. Losing Pena isn't optimal I suppose, but I can appreciate the need for SP depth.
  3. You seem to be in the minority I was there about Yost as well. I hope I am wrong... I'm not as optimistic.
  4. I know that this seems sort of random -- but just to recognize an extraordinary effort.... My son sent a card for Hideki Okajima to be autographed earlier this season.... Today we received a large manila envelope which included the following.... 1.) A card with membership into Red Sox Nation 2.) Team sched for 2009 3.) A bunch of BoSox stickers 4.) A picture of David Ortiz 5.) A small bag of "Fenway Dirt" 6.) A nice letter thanking us for supporting Okajima 7.) 2 signed cards. Needless to say, my son is going to be excited to dig through all of this when he gets home from school. So, I guess my message is, that while we may not always get what we want, I think a lot of teams are definitely trying to make some people happy some of the time.
  5. I have a general question about the 104 number -- What % of the tested pool does that represent? -- If you assume every player was tested, there would have been probably about 800 MLB players, 104 is about 12.5%. If they only tested 400 players its closer to 25%. If they tested 200 players, then Jose Canseco was on the mark.... Does anyone know what % of the MLB players that 104 represents?
  6. But like I said, I'm not going to throw him out of the rotation before spring training starts. Barring injury, Suppan is assured a starting spot in the rotation until at least the AS-Break, probably regardless of his performance. Realistically the Brewers do not have a superior option to Suppan, and DM is going to try and get as much of the $$$ out of Suppan that he can.
  7. I hope Yeti isn't too dismayed about being bumped from the rotation into an undefined role. Suppan/Yo/Parra etc. are inevitably going to miss some starts -- McClung will get some starts. Plus I don't think it was ever in the plans to have McClung in the rotation -- I don't think he got "bumped" -- I think he was always destined to be the spot starter, BP long guy.
  8. I am not arguing the pro or con of A-Rod in the HOF, but how can he get in when McGwire is getting only 20-ish percent of the vote now? I don't think McGwire is the slam-dunk HOF candidate that AROD is. Also, I think that the reason that a lot of voters are not voting for McGwire right now, is that they are waiting to get a bigger picture of "the steroid era". McGwire was on the front end of all the drama -- Knowing that you cannot remove a player from the HOF, I'd probably err on the side of caution with any player of this era, and see how the big picture develops. I bet that in 3-5 years, as more and more players get "discovered", the voters will soften their stance.
  9. Cutting McClung would save a decent amount of cash and would probably be similar to cutting Vargas a couple years ago. McClung signed for $1.7M -- I think Vargas was around $3.5M -- so cutting Vargas saved a bit more coin -- I'd rather keep McClung around as a #6 starter when we need it.
  10. So does A-Rod get into the Hall of Fame now? Yes.
  11. Would you feel the same if the Milwaukee Braves moved to Atlanta and became the Atlanta , while the Seattle Pilots became the Milwaukee Braves again? It's not the player's fault one way or the other -- I think the Brewers should recognize the Braves that played in Milwaukee, and I have no problem with the ATL Braves recognizing players from their history either.
  12. Those aren't even negatives, yet. Signing Hammonds wasn't a negative in the off-season he was signed in either. I am talking about real time suffering. Losing Molitor really stung at the time it happened -- I'll certainly agree with that one.
  13. I imagine I'm leaving out quite a few other off seasons. Not in my top 3. Lost Jack Z Lost Jim Powell kept Dale Sveum Boned on Sheets+CC picks It's starting to piss me off.
  14. Yep. Billy Redden for the record was not inbred, nor a banjo player.
  15. He is an actor from Georgia.
  16. CW McCall is a great guess but wrong.
  17. Is he a musician? No. However, he is often mistook for being one.
  18. I'm not sure your scenario holds, JB. If Sheets was actually injured, and it was shown that it occurred while pitching for the Brewers, I doubt that the Brewers could have cut him and not paid him. That's an interesting point I don't think you could cut him, if it was injury related. -- The other thing, would be once Sheets threw one pitch, you couldn't prove when the injury occurred easily. Also, I don't know if teams require physicals before an arby contract. I don't think DM gambles with $2M either -- in either case... Bottom line, I think DM dodged a bullet here. I think he thought Sheets would be ready to go (maybe with some rehab time)...
  19. Nevertheless, that wasn't bad gamble by the Brewers for offering it, because if he wasn't healthy they weren't on the hook for all that much. I don't think DM rolls the dice like that -- I am pretty convinced DM thought Sheets was good to go.
  20. if he does need surgery in order to continue pitching, he could be 5 months into his recovery by now. Yes -- and teams would feel more comfortable where things are at with Sheets.
  21. I believe the team is on the hook for some of the contract but not all in that situation. The Brewers did this with Vargas and saved like a million bucks or something. JB12 is 100% correct that the contract is not guaranteed -- but as other have pointed out, the Brewers would be on the hook for a non-trivial amount of $$$. If he wasn't going to need surgery as originally thought, why was there still little interest? Because he is viewed as "injury prone" -- that and the draft picks...
  22. No he couldn't. FA accepting arbitration don't get guaranteed money. He would have gotten some money. It would have cost the Brewers $1-2 million (at least) on a $12M contract.
  23. I might be time to start questioning our medical staff's abilities somewhat. Yep. Some quackery might be a good explanation for all of this. Brewers and Sheets are relying on their Drs., so they both think Ben is healthier than he is. This sucks. I really wanted to see Ben get a good contract.
