  1. Transformers, Brewers in disguise.
  2. Which is pretty much what Yost would do to keep his bench players sharp. Branyan made 2, Counsell made 9 -- I agree that Counsell was the starter and Branyan was the bench player. I won't guess wether Branyan was hurt or not, but if he was he should have been put on the DL earlier and Dillon brought up. Yep. Agree 100%
  3. Tony Pena -- 67 wins --> 83 wins Buck Showalter -- 71 wins --> 89 wins That's why those 2 won it -- Girardi getting the Marlins competitive after they dumped their entire team was a recognizable feat as well None of these 3 cases are comparable to Yost. Hate to say it but its a possibility that Yost could win MOY It's a possibility, sure, not likely though.
  4. He made 2 starts and some PH appearances.
  5. Actually it isn't. Branyan might actually be injured. He was injured August 14th, not August 1st. What I was trying to say is that it's not like we're getting an MVP caliber player with Branyan in the lineup. We get a guy that hit more HRs in a game that Counsell can hit in a season -- good enough for me. Sometimes I think the Russell man love goes a little overboard here. Not even close.
  6. Optioned to where? -- There is no AAA in a little bit here.
  7. It's so stupid that Tony LaRussa did it last week. My goodness! Fire him! It's stupid no matter who does it.
  8. I think he'll probably get the award unless the Cubs push a 100 wins. I disagree -- and it has nothing to do with me wanting Yost to be thrown in a wood-chipper. I think Yost could finish as high as 3rd, but I think it is Sweet Lou's award to lose. I have seen enough of these awards to know that Yost is not going to win.
  9. I have to ask. Do you guys just remember that stuff, did that play stick in your head for some reason or did you look it up? Doing a H&R with the pitcher at the plate is monumentally stupid, and stuck in my mind. Parra compounding the stupidity by hitting a 3b, cemented the image for me.
  10. But the bench guys do need occasional starts, and that's what he was getting before Branyan's injury. Counsell got 15 starts in August and only missed 4 of the Brewers games. Branyan went on the DL on Aug. 14th, up until that time, he had 2 starts in August, Counsell had 9. I have a good feeling that if he's healthy 3TO will get the majority of starts against RHP when he returns. I think you are 100% wrong -- I hope you are right though. But like Durham at 2B, let's remember Russell isn't exactly a HOF player. He's very good against righties and has a good on base. He should start more against them, but it's not like we're adding another Braun or Fielder to the lineup or a golden glove in the infield. As said many times before Counsell's glove at 3b does not make up for the huge OPS difference.
  11. I guess. I always used to think that people only slept in different rooms if they disliked each other and were involved in a sham marriage I may have a sham marriage I guess, I'd rather have that and 6 hours of sleep though.
  12. I think the obvious thing that no one wants to say is they can imagine a lot less "spur of the moment" interaction with your wife, if you know what I mean. No, not at all, please elaborate, slowly.
  13. Anyone else tried this? Yeah. For about 5 years. I am a light light sleeper, my wife sleeps the sleep of the undead. I love my wife dearly, but I am certain that the baby Jesus will kick my wife out of heaven after one night because of her snoring. It is unwordly. I wish I could describe it, it is sort of like ocean, in how it envelopes you. Plus my wife is an on-call EMT, so she has all sorts of buzzers and sirens in our room. I also bought her an I-home a few years back and it randomly plays Aerosmith songs throughout the night -- my wife has no idea that it does, and thinks I am making that up, because it never wakes her up. One night I was so fed up with the snoring/sirens/Love in an Elevator -- I rolled out of my bed and like the Incredible Hulk I lifted the bed about 18 inches off the ground and dropped it. I didn't wake her up, but I broke one of her pagers, and Aerosmith kept playing -- so I grabbed a blanket and reclaimed one of our other rooms. although some people will think it's some kind of reflection on the state of your relationship I hear you. My wife is worried about this as well, and yells at me occasionally for sleeping in the other room. Apparently it's going to be published in a newsletter at some time. I will be sure to tell her that the dorks on BF.net approve of me sleeping in the other room. She will like that.
  14. If somebody can prove that Ned Yost hates Russell Branyan, I'd like to see it. Craig Counsell getting your job is proof your boss doesn't like you. Sure, he's not playing him, but he might actually have been hurt! He wasn't hurt until he went on the DL.
  15. First issue. What is the deal with Russell Branyan? Honestly, I think Ned hates Branyan, or what he brings to the table. I am sure he blew out his oblique and is probably done for the year, Ned will justify playing Counsell with defense and "hitting for contact". Second, is the club really okay playing out the rest of the pennant race with Counsell as the primary 3B? I think there is some sort of ironic twist in the idea that once Braun hit the bigs last year, we would never ever ever ever see Counsell starting at 3b again. Oops. Lets be honest as soon as Braun returned, Dillon should have been up otherwise. That's what I said. I thought Dillon over Counsell was a better upgrade compared to any upgrade Nix would have added to Kapler. I'd just as soon see Hall get all the starts at 3b here on out.
  16. I thought when Prince hit that guy in the back with his throw after Mota picked him off was funny. It would have been funnier had he hit the guy in the helmet, but plopping him in the back will have to do. What a horrible defender.
  17. I think TLR has done an amazing job -- and Pinella would be a better choice as well. I don't think Ned deserves it, and I don't think he will win it.
  18. Any other thoughts? I have a few... Jaybird -- I know you are a newbie SABR guy -- If we sat down for a few drinks, and you told me you recently joined SABR, I could do one of two things, I could make you feel stupid by overwhelming you with my superior knowledge of the history of the game, or I could welcome you aboard and encourage your new interest. Which would you prefer? This thread comes off as jackassish, and I would hate for someone that is new or rediscovering the Brewers to read it and think that your post is representative at all of longtime Brewer fans. I was sitting at a campfire the other night, and it was so refreshing to be talking about the Brewers in August, yeah -- I had to answer questions like "Why did we trade Jenkins?" but, so what? I got to talk baseball instead of listening to people talk about Nascar. These casual fans that you are ripping on, are people like my mom, and other members of my family and friends circle, that are just looking to support Wisconsin sports and are legitimately giddy to have a team to follow, love the new park and enjoy the new crop of talent. I know I can be pessimistic about the Brewers, but I am sincerely excited about the record crowds, and Brewer gear I see around town. You seem sort of sour, and for the life of me I cannot understand why. Get pissed off at communists, Osama Bin Laden, boy bands, or Kevin Costner... but getting whizzed at our expanding fanbase seems misguided -- and I know you are a better dude than that.
  19. I bet its less than 15
  20. The pitching machine was set at the mound which would be the same same distance a kid would have been throwing from. My bad, I thought you meant at the cages.
  21. I'm guessing it is a rec-league, but I don't think that fact should stop a talented player from playing. It doesn't -- They only asked him not to pitch. In my son's 4th grade FB, kids over 95 lbs, can't carry or handle the ball. It's a rule, so the big kids don't hurt the little kids I guess. I'd hate to be the person that told him he couldn't play with his friends because he's too good. Well, again I moved my son out of town to play FB, the Scott's could have done the same. If it was important to develop his pitching they should have moved him to a different league, if it was important to play with his buddies, he should have played SS. From the quote below, you can see that the Scotts had other options. At the end of the day, Scott doesn't benefit from striking out far inferior players anymore than the batters benefit from facing him. Then they can get a chance to face a really good pitcher to see if it all pays off. Your arguments are rather idealistic, and I think apply only to competitive leagues, if even that. Until you have coached boys at a rec league level, I would humbly submit your arguments are only based in your ideals.
  22. Kohls had some.
