  1. Am I completely off base in letting the Brewers know about my complaint? I think so -- Standing in one spot and spitting out seeds is pretty gross, I can see how an usher would be ticked off by it. I don't see how being a season ticket holder necessitates you any special privileges than a single game ticket holder. I am sure you guys are good guys, and certainly the usher could have asked you guys to use a cup first, but he was probably empathizing with the dude who has to clean up your mess. I wouldn't complain, and I would make sure to find that usher again and apologize, and I am betting he will give you first rate treatment after that.
  2. The BBWAA would never give the Cy to a player that missed the first 2.5 months of a season. Sutcliffe won the NL CY in 1984, playing 2.5 months in the AL
  3. However, as with most injuries, they are trying to make his availability unknown to their opponents if in fact they decide not to DL him again. Why? -- What tangible advantage is there to be gained?
  4. Come on...I really doubt Yost would go against the trainers' advice, in such a way as you are posturing right now. I'm not saying he did -- only it is "far from obvious" what input the trainers had into last night's decision. I doubt he is actively trying to jeopardize the health of any of his players. I doubt this as well.... maybe... sort of.
  5. Obviously Ned was given the OK from the training/medical staff for Braun to play, or he wouldn't have been out there. This is not obvious. For all we know trainers told Ned that Braun could aggravate his injury, and Ned told them to go sit on the couch.
  6. So what would the attitude around here be like if Yost did take Sabathia out after the 7th inning and they end up loosing that game last night? He brings in Mota and Gagne because they are in a "mop-up" situation. I know my attitude is that Mota & Gagne should not be on a MLB roster if the 2 of them can't help whoring up 7 runs in an inning. If CC was pulled and Mota+Gagne gave up 7 runs, I'd would have understood Yost, but would have blamed DM for the clowns in the BP.
  7. How about Nolan Ryan? He was known to have reached 160 pitches and he pitched until his late 40's Sabathia threw 256 innings last year between the regular season and playoffs. The guy's a horse. I don't mean to be snarky JB12 -- but do you have any idea how Ryan pitched in the games following after dropping in 160 heaters? To be clear -- I don't care about the long-term issues of CC, and I do not think CC's arm is going to fall off this season because he hits 130 pitches in a game. However I am concerned that his effectiveness down the stretch could be compromised. There was a study done -- that concluded that a pitcher can expect to give up about 1 run over his next 3 starts after throwing 130 pitches (or something resembling that). Is .333 runs worthwhile to give up to protect a 1 run lead in the 9th -- probably. Is it optimal to give up that .333 future run to protect a 7 run lead -- probably not. I think everyone here agrees that CC is a horse, and can throw 130 pitches -- it just is probably not optimal.
  8. there is no way Yost brings in Mota so he can give up a granny to Berkman, then a HBP and another granny. Too many blown leads over the past few years. If Yost is really afraid that Mota is going to give up 2 grannys in 1 inning, Mota should not be on the team, and both Yost and DM should be fired immediately. There is no denying that a pitcher's effectiveness decays after a 130 pitch outing -- that has been shown. Now if the game would have been 2-1, I think CC would have been fine to pitch that 9th inning, as I do not think that the decay is greater than the decline in quality going from CC to Torres. However, leaving CC to protect a 7 run lead -- that's buffoonery.
  9. And if people feel they are in better shape than a pro athlete, one has to wonder why you're not famous. This is very easy to explain -- the guys on this board can't hit a MLB fastball -- they can run though.
  10. To be honest, I'm very surprised that you are paid below minimum wage, I never would have expected that. Servers made like $1.25 per hour back when I did it (about 15 years ago). The other thing that sucks, is that servers have to report their gross sales for a shift on their taxes, so the IRS can get their cut on the tip income. I am sure of the exact numbers -- but if the standard is 15% -- you have to report like 10% to the IRS (they assume a lower %, for cheapwads). If you have a $200 ticket, and you get stiffed, not only did you work for free, you are paying taxes on income you didn't earn. I have served, delivered pizza, etc., at some point in my life when I was getting through school, so I have a lot of sympathy/respect for the young kids trying to earn some extra cash or young kids with family, so I tend to tip pretty good. I live in a small town, so I personally know most of the servers/delivery people which makes it easy to tip. I remember how good a fat tip made me feel, so I figure that kid needs that 5$ more than I do, and I feel good about paying forward the generosity I experienced when I was in their shoes. When I was in college I worked on a garbage truck for a summer in Madison. I have never had a job since that allowed me to see the good and bad of people all in the space of a couple of hours. There were people that would take extreme care to make sure my job was as easy as possible -- for example some people would watch for me and run out lemonade or water in July -- on the other hand some people treated me if I was child rapist on work release. Tipping the garbage men is a good thing -- primarily I have a lot of sympathy for the job they do, but at some point in the year I know I will have some crazy item (large rug, old TV, expired inlaw, etc.) I will want taken away, and I know that they will help me out. I have never understood the concept of "not tipping because of bad service". Anyone that has worked in the food industry should know that most the problems with getting your food to your table or house happens in the kitchen -- certainly some servers are better than others, but if you have a bad experience -- you may want to consider that the server may have had nothing to do with it.
  11. originally To Insure Promptness was the reason. "Ensure" would be more correct.
  12. We really don't need three 3B on the team. Billy Hall seems to be the forgotten stepchild in all of this. If you're going to bring up Dillon to start instead of Counsell, why not just start Billy full time? I agree with this 100% -- Hall should be starting over Counsell -- my point is that, if you are resigned to not starting Hall, Dillon over Counsell is a bigger upgrade over Nix v. Kapler. Starting Counsell needs to end soon.
  13. Dillon makes no sense if Dillon is replacing Branyan. I'd rather see Dillon called up to replace Counsell at 3rd, than Nix to replace Branyan off the bench or Kapler in LF (while Braun is hurt.)
  14. That would mean using the backup catcher and we all know that one would rather lose a game than suffer the humiliation of running out of catchers! Rivera could start 1b, and then move over to C when Kendall is obliterated. As long as we don't PH for the catcher we are AOK. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif
  15. So this "injury" does not explain why Counsell is starting. Exactly. The whole situation is just getting odd, IMO. I'm surprised that TGJ wasn't called up to start in CF. My guess is that: 1.) They wanted to see what Nix could do. 2.) TGJ has a .650 OPS in Nash. Blech. 3.) Nix will replace what Branyan has become, a LH PHer with some pop off of the bench.
  16. Counsell has been starting (more than he should) since Jul. 31st -- Branyan has: 6 starts in May (since the 25th) 20 starts in June 8 starts in July 2 starts in August. Branyan's PT really started tapering off at July 20th -- has he been hurt since then? when did Branyan get hurt? -- maybe it happened last night.
  17. Counsell starting all of these games, when Dillon (or Hall) is available still makes no sense.
  18. Now will anyone take back their calls of Yost being a total idiot for playing Counsell over Branyan the last few days? Not really -- 1.) Counsell is still batting 6th. 2.) Dillon should have been brought up sooner, which of course is on DM.
  19. Well, it's not so bad if they were dumb enough not to offer him arby. Also, after 6/15 Dunn's contract allowed him to specify the 10 teams the Reds could trade him to, so Dunn could have limited the options the Reds had. I agree the Reds didn't get an impressive haul.
  20. Here's my vent. Yesterday we're told that we shouldn't have Counsell starting discussions in the IGT, now the 3B thread is locked. So what are we supposed to do now? Ridiculous that that thread was locked. I agree -- Counsell continuing to get starts is a topic worth discussing. Anyone that wants to talk about it can do so here.
  21. I wonder if this opinion still exists. My opinion of Prince and what he did to Parra hasn't changed one bit because the Brewers swept the Nats. Yost was right. This wasn't a big deal. It was a big deal, Parra getting shoved and tossed around in dugout with Prince being restrained, is a big deal. Thankfully the Brewers were able to get past the issue and continue to win games, but beating the Nats does not make what happened trivial. Just some food for thought. Here is my thought. I see the mods brag in chat and threads about how many applications they turn down for this site. I wonder what percentage of those people would bait less, and not cause threads to get locked than you do? IBTL!
  22. I'm pretty sure the socratic method is Chinese philosophy. I could be mistaken though. You should be embarrassingly mistaken -- Socrates was Greek. This however, is probably not your silliest post in this thread.
  23. He already has an error in only 15 total chances
  24. yeah... how did Dunn possibly clear waivers? You would have thought LA would have stepped in on this one. Here is what you are missing -- Dunn hits the waiver wire with just about every other player in baseball -- LA does not have any knowledge of where Dunn (or any other player for that matter) is heading. For all LA knew, Dunn could have been traded to the D-Rays or Yankees, in which case they would want no part of claiming Dunn.
