  1. My final bold thought is that the Brewers should name Stetter the closer. I disagree -- I think that they should keep from "naming a starter" as long as possible, or until something becomes very obvious. I think Stetter is young, and does not need to inherit the mess left by Turnbow and Gagne. Stetter is bound to get lit up one of these days, and I would hate for the "First Turnbow, then Gagne, and now this guy..." crap to fall on Stetter. That said -- I would certainly use Stetter in high leverage situations as much as possible. He seems head and shoulders better than anyone in our pen right now.
  2. I think the reference is far from obscure for the 25-40 year old demographic. It's pretty fresh and clever IMO.
  3. Out of curiosity, where is Chris Saenz as far as rehab goes? He is long gone --- I think he was in the Indys last year.
  4. Weaver. If he doesn't make the MLB roster by a certain date, he's a FA. I'm OK with Weaver walking. DiFelice for me.
  5. Any chance he would accept a week or two in the minors to try to get himself right? Since he has 5 years he can refuse the assignment the Brewers have to pay him. If there is something wrong with his mechanics, he could get injured and make some rehab appearances in the minors
  6. I don't even hate Yost. And that play wouldn't even be in the top 100 things he did this year that upset me. So what. It was stupid, it does not to be the most stupid for people to vent about it.
  7. We need to score some runs and the offense continues to be simply awful. Calling a suicide squeeze in a situation when our run expectancy was so high didn't help us -- that's on Yost. I think we all agree the offense has been bad, but that really is a whole other issue. Kinda the same way Yost dumps responsibility on his players or coaches or mosquitos? You beat me to us -- Yost leads the league in blaming fans, players, bugs, non-tangible entities, etc... The other thing I thought about -- others have noted that the Brewers don't require the hitter to acknowledge the squeeze sign. -- This seems entirely idiotic to me, if Kendall swings away, he could clip Hall and end his season (please resist the Hall jabs). With all the players running through stop signs, not getting signs or ignoring signs, this just seems like a poorly run team.
  8. I think Melvin messed up not getting rid of Yost in the off-season and not giving Yost's successor the ability to work with the team in the off-season.
  9. Someone would have to take a league minimum flyer on him, right? Gagne would most likely get a minor league deal.
  10. (Which is usually hits into, hence he is batting in the 9 spot) Kendall ended up grounding out to the SS, which might have been a double play. If it is such a given -- PH for Kendall
  11. This makes me think that the mysterious waiver rules would have meant anyone claiming him would have to pay his salary The rules are not really mysterious -- it is spelled out rather clearly on Cot's salary page, all of his source documentation is listed as well. I wish people would take the time to either read Cot's page, and if they remain unconvinced, read the source documents rather than make assumptions. Surely someone would have taken a chance on him if they were only on the hood for $400K, wouldn't they? Turnbow had 13 BBs and 12 hits in 6IP -- and the reason the innings are so small, is that he could not end innings. I don't think any team would want to put Turnbow on their major league roster anytime soon, so why would you sign a guy for $400K to pitch in AAA for most if not all of the season. Turnbow is going to have to pitch a lot of solid innings in AAA before a team is going to want to take a chance on him. I suspect teams will sign him to a minor league deal this off-season. I think someone will give him another chance, but only at the minor league level.
  12. I don't know off anything Yost did yesterday that caused that lost. The squeeze was stupid -- the fact that Kendall missed the call, and Sveum left the play on shows a pretty high level of boobery. I am beginning to think Sveum couldn't hurt us as the bench coach.
  13. Okay, lets say he lets Kendall swing away. The only way we would have scored more than the one run was if he would have hit an extra base hit. Do you really think he would have gotten an extra base hit? No. I don't think it is likely Kendall gets an extra base hit, however, if he gets a single or a BB, at least one run scores, and the inning continues with only one out.
  14. I still don't see how you say Melvin was lacking in vision to lead to this, we lost two guys for the year very early in the year and it created holes. That wasn't the point I was making. Recte said this: The rotation wouldn't have been that big of a problem had Gallardo not been injured, it was a fluke and out of Melvin (on anyone's) control. If Yo had not been injured, we'd still be pretty much in the same boat we are in now. I took issue with that statement. There is no reason to expect Capuano, Bush, Villanueva and Parra to all fail at the major league level though. There was no real compelling reason to think that 3 out of 4 of those pitchers would be solid. Furthermore, I don't think DM had plans for Capuano in the rotation for 2008.
  15. The squeeze was the perfect call in that situation. No it wasn't -- If Yost was so concerned about the DP, he could have PH for Kendall. The pitcher walked 2 batters, and playing for one run with our bullpen was not smart. I'm beginning to think Yost should be fired, fired into space.
  16. The rotation wouldn't have been that big of a problem had Gallardo not been injured, it was a fluke and out of Melvin (on anyone's) control. No starter not named Ben Sheets has won a game since April 5th. The rotation is a problem regardless of Yost. We're only 5 games out....how many games were the Cubs behind us at one point last season? Right, and then the Brewers collapsed. Why are you drawing correlations to an entirely different team -- the closest team to the 08 Brewers is the 07 Brewers.
  17. tied with the Pirates
  18. Why did we play for one run in the 8th when our closer is struggling? Yep. Their pitcher was struggling as well.
  19. Ned will say something like this about the squeeze "Molina did a helluva job catching that pitch, and he made a nice throw down to 3rd base"
