  1. Sheets also has been injured during this time so he might have more wins to this total and the Brewers might have won a division last year if he would have been healthy all year. Wins are only part of the equation when looking at a pitcher, and how well he is performing. (pared back long quote --1992)

  5. When the Brewers win the divsion I hope he is reminded of this statement and see than what he says. No doubt he will have some poor excuse just like most Cub backers do.
  6. Not suprised that Melvin is not on the list, I think his time with the Rangers has weighed him down. He was under orders to give out some big money to guys that did not work out. I dont believe there is even 3 guys on this board that could do the job Cashman is doing. It is real easy to think you can do a GM's job the lazyboy. Playing fantasy baseball isn't even close to being a GM. There is no boss breathing down your neck to win, millions of fans wanting nothing but a title every year, and the dam New York media and their no shame in writing any story they see fit. I'm sure for just those reason alone the field is narrowed and lets not get into player evaluations and stuff that really make GMs good.
  7. Yankees have always thrown money around and never won. Look what they gave the likes of Winfield, Bayloer, Kemp, and ton of players that were at the top of their game. They still could not win it with all that talent and money. Cashman is very unlikely to steal young players because he is always in contention and needs to use the farm system for the missing parts. His trade of Sheffield is solid for the prospects he got, although they are what they are prospects and may not turn out.
  8. It is nice to think that scouting, correct diet, and video would keep guys from injury. But it doesnt happen, they have made advances in the training but these guys are still playing with muscles and bones. (pared back nested quote --1992)
  9. His record speaks for its self. Yes he has a lot of money to use, but the Yankees in the past burned a lot of money on players and got no results. The 80s and most of the 90s the Yankees were not the big dogs on the block. Even if you spend money you have to do it correctly and he has also a good job of using his minors to trade for holes.
  10. I love the 82 team, but it his time to let go of the promo. Still wish they could bring back that glove logo though.
  11. Sounds vaguely familiar... Flashbacks to 2006 when Cappy had just come off of 18 wins and Sheets was hurt maybe? Ben Sheets was hurt again? I read he is not injury prone he just wants some rest during the season each year.
  12. I would say more like 20 to 25 years ago those guys were throwing. Jenks retired in 83, Ryan last pitched in 93, Seaver was in 86. There are many different theries to why pitchers dont last that long anymore. I tend to believe that these guys get babied because of the big money they are getting and teams are so scared to over work them. Lot of kids now days dont throw a lot of long toss that builds up the arm strength needed to hammer out a ton of innings. (pared back long nested quote --1992)
  13. I see Cappy having a rebound this season and being a solid starter for this team. He has some bad luck and tough games in the second half last year, but he still has a lot of good stats for the season. I had him as the #3 guy in the rotation behind Sheets and Yo and before Suppan so that the team could break up the righties. Parra having an option makes is it easy to send him down this year to start out. Carlos V could take hit this year. He has a 26 hit % of balls in play, league average is 30%. And his strand rate was almost god like with 96% in his starts, league average is 90%. This numbers start to come back to normal and he will not have the numbers of last year. Still think he will be a solid SP but he is going to go through some rough times.
  14. I dont think we could get a average prospect and two potetntial sleepers for Vargas. Would be great though. With them catching the knee injury right away it should not hurt the team for an extended period, Yo has no breakdowns during rehab.
  15. Brewers were in a pennant race last year and needed to shore up the bullpen to see if they could win the NL Central Division title. I know it has been a long time since the Brewers have been a contender, but when you have a chance you have to try and improve your team if you can. Melvin went out and got the best setup man he could to help the team. To get talent you have to give up something, and in this case it cost the Brewers 3 arms. I dont think any of these arms would make or break the Brewers future. Inman's talent is starting to level off as he gets to the upper levels and looks to be at best a #4 starter, personally I think he will be a long man/ spot starter when all is said and done. He does not have the stuff to get him in the rotation as a regular.Garrison might be the sleeper in the trade and prove to be a quality starter down the road as he has some raw talent that needs to be developed. Thatcher will be a short man in the pen for his career and you can find guys like that laying aroung each year, look what the Brewers hauled in this year for short men. The trade did not handcuff the Brewers since they did not give up any top end prospects to get Linebrink and it was taking top end guys to players this offseason. If the Brewers wanted to get talent in a trade they would have had to use other players from the farm system or on the 25 man roster, those 3 pitchers were not huge losses.
  16. Why would we give up a SP for a mid level prospect now? Brewers are down one SP right now to start the season, if all goes well he is back in the first couple weeks. If he has a setback and another SP goes down this team is starting to be real thin at SP. There is no need to move a SP at this point.
  17. Votto is not a very good OFer so I would not want to move a SP for him. He will be a backup like Joey said.
  18. This could be a trade deadline deal if Hall is not working or there is an injury. Crede has stated he is going to test the market after the season.
  19. The way the ball explodes off Braun's bat I could see him getting close to 60 as his body matures. Guy and rake with the best of them already. Prince awesome power and he also could get 60 his issue would be if he would go into a cold streak like most power hitters tend to do. I could care less about 60 if they are hitting 40 each a year this team will have a tough middle of the order duo.
  20. Villy had very high strand rate last year so he could easily go down hill from last year. You dont just trade away a SP when you have other options to keep him around. Parra can start out the year in AAA unless he really shows he is the 5th SP this spring. If it meant that Brewers could get more in return for Cappy or Bush I would be all for trading them first.
  21. Mute point about how he would have faired with the Yankees. He could make the team out of spring training with the Rangers as easy one of the the other teams discussed. He has to beat out Nelson Cruz or David Murphy for the last spot in the OF and neither of them has lit the world on fire over their career. If Bradley get DL time with his knee Mench has a better shot getting on the 25 man roster.
  22. Blanton is more than slightly better than Bush. He has more of a proven track record than one David Bush. Sometims I think there is so much "Homerism" on this site that people need to stop drinking the Brew Crew kool aid.
  23. I did not know owning a small part of a minor league hockey team ment that you give your main employer a hometown discount. With that logic maybe he will give some of the money he got while he was hurt the last three years. Sheets only chance of getting another contract from the Brewers if he goes through this season healthy and putting up top end stats, then the Brewers will be more than tempted to fork over some money to him. If he doesn't do that DM has to make a huge effort to move him while he still has value and more injuries dont mount on his resume. I see Mark A more than willing to pay his top players, I know I'm in the minority but he has gone on record saying he wants a winner and certain players will have to be paid if he is true to his word.
  24. 1. I would not want Burnett and his injury burdened body. He is more of an injury risk than Sheets each year. 2. Dont think the Blue Jays will take Cappy and a prospects that we have for him. They would likely do it for one of the younger hitters on the roster Hardy, Hart or someone like this. DM would never do that IMO. 3. Like most of said this regime is looking for a long term product and not a year or two window and then back to non winning hell.
  25. That is a ton to give up for Joe Blanton, and I dont think it will happen for that cost. Blanton will see a spike in his numbers since he is going to an extreme hitters park after playin in Oak for his whole career. He is not a strikeout guy so he could struggle very easily in Cincy.
