  1. This makes no sense at all. Hall is set at 3B and Creded would be the backup for this team. Crede also is coming off back surgery and no one knows if he will hold up the whole season. I dont see the ChiSox only taking Vargas for Crede also, they have reported to be looking at Noah Lowry if the move him to the Giants.
  2. Sheets, Yo, Cappy Suppan, Bush. Villy and Vargas will be in the pen to start the season and ready to fill in. Parra will spend the start of the season in AAA ready to callup when he is needed.
  3. IF Roberts becomes a Cub he upgrades the hitting at 2B and most likekly the #2 spot in the batting order. The over value he gives the Cubs will be minimal. They are going to have to give up something to get Roberts and most likely it will be young arms. Marquis and Lilly will be hard to repeat last season so I dont see the Cubs as good in pitching like some, they could use those young arms to eat up some innings this year and beyond.
  4. TooLiveBrew, Dont forget that all those guys are far superior than Mench when it comes to playing the OF. Matsui plays everyday when he is healthy and same can be said about Abreau. If he got more than one start a week I with the Yankees I would be amazed.
  5. He would get some at bats but not a lot. Abreau, Matsui, and Damon are every day players. These guys are not like Jenkins who contantly struggled against left handed pitching, they are proven commodities.
  6. Dependabilty counts for a lot after all. Lets see if Sheets can keep those great numbers up and come close to 200 IPs this year. With the young arms like Parra and Villy they could a decent job in the rotation if Ben is not on the hill.
  7. This would be a better fit for Mench, as he might get a chance to play some OF for the Royals. Yankees already have enougth OFers, but offer a chance to play for a World Series.
  8. 134 IP is very easy to replace. Yes those other numbers are awesome, but when you cant count on it every 5th day and have to juggle guys around from the pen and the rotation it hurts the other guys on the staff also. Yost has to wonder every time that Sheets takes the mound if he will get injured and not be able to finish the game, then he has to dip into the pen and get through the game and also hold an arm from the pen for his next start.
  9. Using Sickel's grades it is. Sickel's grades have been significantly different from other grades or scouting rankings I've seen. Tony Butler did not have a good year, and was badly overrated as a prospect last year. Even with his struggles, Jeffress absolutely blows him away as a prospect in my opinion. Jones is a better value and a better prospect than LaPorta in my opinion, but again, with Parra and Tillman, you're talking about a guy in Tillman who is about as far as Rogers away from the big leagues and Parra a guy with the ceiling of a frontline starter. That right there, those three prospects you listed favor the Brewers heavily, even with Jones edge of LaPorta. I think if we had Will Inman back, we could come up with a closer value with what the M's would give up in this particular deal. Maybe Matt LaPorta, Zach Jackson and Jeremy Jeffress would be a closer deal, but throwing Parra into it changes the trade a great deal obviously. Of course, the M's are also giving up a good major league reliever, so it's not an even deal, just even in terms of the prospects. Jeffers has yet to prove he can get his secondary pitches over the plate and his suspension puts a black mark on him, he does not blow Butler out of the water when you look at all the facts. O's got a great haul in this package from the Ms. They have started to get younger with better players thanks to the new GM. Markaksis, Scott, Jones is a lot better OF than what they had last year and now they have a bunch of young arms to build with.
  10. 1. Ben Sheets is healthy and pitching well, ERA around 3.2 or so Was this suppose to be in blue?? Sheets will have to different route than what he has done the last 3 years. RyDogg your right there will a certain crying if Sheets leaves and some how finds a way to stay healthy. IMO it is time for him to move on if he cannot shake the injury bug. It is becoming old what type of injury will put Sheets on the DL each year. He has more talent than pitcher on the staff, but he has not lived up to it the last 3 years.
  11. Better team than last year, so he should be ok. Less Goeff Jenkins and no Bill Hall in the OF will make Ned's life much easiser.
  12. The brightness of his flame has dulled out over the last year and a half. He came over from the Blue Jays with big expectations since he blew threw the lower minors. I see a 5th starter type for him at best, he just doenst have enought pitches to be a consistent guy that a team can count on for the rotation.
  13. 1. Baseball stars since you could build your own team and play a full season with leader boards. 2. RBI Baseball great to play head to head while in college and drinking some beers.
  14. It would not be bad PR if Sheets once again is going through injuries and this team can get some pieces for the team to stay toward the top. If this team would collapse and not be in the race and moved Sheets for younger players I dont see it as bad PR. He is no longer the best player on the team with Prince, Braun, and Hart in town. You could argue he is not even one of the top 5 faces of the frachise anymore as the young guys are taking over. Sheets's injuries have taken some of his glamour away from in a lot of fans eyes.
  15. With all the pitfalls a catcher faces in the minors I would not waste a top pick on one. Injuries, learning to hit, play behinde the plate, learning to call a good game. Way to many things to waste a top pick with so many things that will lead to failure. Jason Belcher was suppose to be the next Piazza and he fizzled. JBrigss this team was in rebuilding mode so to bring in a veteran to catch the pitchers is a solid plan. No reason to waste money one a big hitting catcher when the team is not going to contend and has young arms that it wants to be impact to the team. I would rather have him keep bringing in vet catchers that can call a good game and a little something with the bat then some high priced stick that can not handle the staff.
  16. Montero is part of the D-Backs future so I dont see them making a move to send him out of town unless the get over whelmed. I personally like how Melvin has brought in a vet catcher to handle the chores while he has been here. While developing a catcher would be the most optimal path it is the harderst. Catchers have so many obstacles to over come and make the majors that I like having the guy that has already shown he can do it in the bigs.
  17. Jimmy Rollins
  18. Rodgers has to prove he can stay healthy and put up numbers before he gets back to a top end prospect. Jeffress has some huge off the field issues that have to be corrected. Just because Gomez doesn't have a lot of power doesn't mean he will not be a good player. I dont think the package would get C.C. anyways, and not sure Brewers would be looking to get him.
  19. If this team gets off to a slow start Yost will get the ax and Simba will take over the club. If they stay in the race all year Yost will get one more chance with this team. Simmons though looks to be the next manager on this team down the road. Why would Melvin be on the hot seat?? He has built this team to be one of the best in the NL and has been given only last year to see if he could get into the playoffs. Canning Melvin in the near future is people feeling we are th Yankees and need to contend any year. .
  20. Nats needed to take a gamble on Estrada since they are desperate for a catcher. Three teams have now come to the conclusion that Johnny is a clubhouse cancer, so it will haunt him the rest of his playing days till he makes a huge change. Sometimes it is just not a good mix, but three different times would make it seem like it is the individual and not the team.
  21. Mets certainly got a great deal for the best pitcher in the game. Twins did not get a enough value for Johan but they did get hope for the future. Not sure that those prospects are going to make it but what can you do when the two biggest bidders have cooled off on getting Johan. Mets look great on paper but I still see some questions in the rotation. Pedro has been battling health issues for a while now, Oliver Perez has never put the whole thing together, and can John Maine do the same as he did last year. Delgado needs to also bounce back for the lineup to be solid, and at his age he is no lock.
  22. I would love to have Bedard but the proposal to strart the thread is way out there. Parra, Villy, and a young OFer would be what the O's are looking for. That too me is too much since you would have to sign Bedard to an extension down the road before you would loose any of the players you are giving up.
  23. Cameron because team can now move some players to spots that will help the club. His stick will be better than some think also.
  24. They do not call him the Dali Lama for nothing. The man loves the game with a passion and has a lot of contacts that he can use to get out the information that baseball fans want. I love Pete as much as anyone. I have to say whenever he comes out in spring training that with a MVP or Cy Young winners I keep those guys away from my fantasy teams. It is almost as bad as Madden cover jinx.
