    Problem is, if the Crew doesn't have a big 7th inning, how long can Dave Bush go? He's gotta be kinda close to fumes in his tank by now. Do you take a risk with Fernandez? Bush is done, assuming we have someone reach. Why would we even consider Fernandez? Wise for 2, Turnbow for one (hypothetically, if we score).

    But solo shots can only go so far score-wise. It'd be really nice if Brady and/or JJ would start getting on base with some more regularity. I hear that.

    rooting for less damage is not what I'd like to do....I'd rather root for what gives us more potential to score a run and hitting the ball gives us a chance to score. Absolutely. I don't think anyone (I hope) roots for strikeouts on the off chance that a DP might happen on a BIP. edit: I take that back. Last year I was definitely rooting for Jenkins to K because everything he hit was a GIDP.

    Even the Cardinals and Yankees have bad roadtrips. Not to mention that if we manage to take 2 in Houston, we'll still have a 4-5 roadtrip, which is what most people would be happy with in the first place.

    Ok, Im sorry I even tried to say that strikeouts are bad - or simply worse than putting the ball in play with no runner on 1st base. I'll take my feeble mind and leave and because I obviously dont understand baseball. Well, you're clearly not understanding the points being made. You guys can sit around and come up with crazy hypotheticals with balls being put in play and hitting runners in the head, bouncing to the first baseman for an out and then making a triple play by throwing out a runner at home... Nobody wants to hear it. How about the crazy hypothetical situation of a popup?? You are creating hypotheticals where you already have determined that the BIP moved the runners up. There are just as many situations (popup, FC, short fly, etc etc) that *do not* move the runner.

    But when you do make one out, what is the worse way to make it? You refuse to answer the question because answer is simple, the strikeout. I don't know *anyone* who claims that when you *know* that one out is made, a K is the worst kind. Of course if you already know that only one out is going to be recorded, you want the ball put in play. The problem is that's a complete hindsight argument. The real debate is whether you want a K or a BIP, which could possibly be a DP.

    he's only been on the DL 3 times in the last 15 months.... None of which had to do with arm problems.

    Yet some people still try to say striking out is making an out like anything else and having too many K's isn't that bad. And if we had 4 GIDP's today people would be saying the exact opposite. It's completely situation-dependent.
