  1. From a Houston perspective, upgrading at catcher and first are luxuries. CF is a major luxury. The Astros need starting pitching, and they definitely aren't going to look to the Brewers for that.
  2. Well yeah, wouldn't anybody! Those 4 would probably be a majority of the top 5 of Brewer prospects if they were traded. Reed is going to be a stud. He's a beast when it comes to power. Feliz seems to profile more as a reliever, but he's got hard stuff. Santana has redeemed himself from his disastrous MLB debut last year. But I don't think that the Astros would want to give any of them up.
  3. I had seen that, and it was intriguing on both sides. Kemp is a good hitter, but has been playing center because he's blocked by Altuve. Singleton has potential, but either could be a AAAA guy or a guy that needs a change of scenery. He's still really young. The amazing part for the Astros is that they could make this trade and still have a ton of depth in their farm. They have done a great job of stockpiling players, and I wish the Brewers would copy that method. It's going to be fun to watch the Astros for years to come, whether they make a big move this year or not.
  4. What could have been if we still had Cain, Escobar and Odorizzi. Yes, I know it got Greinke, but two all stars were traded.
  5. This sure has been fun!! DeGrom and his filth, now McCutcheon launching. Fun stuff!
  6. Anything by Uke. Not anything involving the Cards.
  7. Are you wearing or have worn a Cardinals jersey? BOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Well done, Reds/All-Star fans, well done.
  8. Give as many young guys a chance as possible. That's how this team is going to win long term. Build a talented, fundamentally strong nucleus. Not sign mediocre 34 year old pitchers to contracts.
  9. Garza's on the DL!!! That means he can't screw up for at least 15 days!!! That's got to be 2, maybe 3 wins, right?
  10. Yes. I could see them trading for a pitcher, but I could just as much see them stand pat. However, they've got a lot of guys at AA and AAA that could lead to 40 man issues come the offseason, so if they can package a couple for lower level guys and/or a stud pitcher, it's possible.
  11. I'll use the example of the Astros. It's where I live, so it's what I see. Carlos Correa is a stud. 5 tool amazing player. Do you know how they got him? Sure, the whole tanking thing. But here's the interesting part. They drafted him first, because the goal was to get him to take a little less than slot value so they could throw a little more at their second pick, Lance McCullers Jr.....also now coming into his own. They used the draft, worked with their scouts to get these guys. Then, in the minor league system, they developed them and worked with them. This year's draft the same way. Their first two picks they were able to get signed at less than slot so that they could go over and above to get Daz Cameron. All of that to get to this conclusion. It has to be an organization wide system in place. We draft good players with offensive AND defensive ability, and then invest the time and energy into developing them and bettering them. In watching the Astros and their system, they've got a great system in place. Comparing it with the Brewers, it's not even close. Now, Arcia could definitely a cornerstone for years to come. And he's got the tools. But who else? Scooter? Eh. Moving Segura to second definitely betters you. And what about third? Those are your key positions. Obviously I'm not a baseball expert, but to me, it's got to be investing in developing these guys in the minors.
  12. Counsell is managing, DM is going to no longer be GM. It has to get better. It can't get worse. Unless next winter, MA decides to sign a middling SP to a 5 year, $110 million contract.
  13. The Astros don't need a LF. Springer plays RF. He's out.they've got Tucker and Rasmus to play left. In the minors they have L.J. Hoes and Alex Pressley (who was called up to replace Springer). Domingo Santana has been good, too. He's another young guy. They've got plenty of guys. They need another top flight starter and production for first base. They should get that from Carter or Singleton.
  14. Rebuild? Last time I checked, the Astros are leading the AL west, halfway through the season. I wouldn't say they're in a rebuild. In fact, when it comes to prospects, they're loaded. Daz Cameron, the 37th pick in the draft, was ranked high by many scouts. They're stocked. They could give up pieces. And the Brewers need a ton of pieces. The Brewers need a trade with the Astros more than the Astros need a trade with the Brewers.
  15. I just saw that. If there's anyone on the Brewers roster I would want to have on the Astros to replace George, it would be Gomez. But they've got some good young guys and Rasmus and Marisnick are almost back, so I bet for the short term, they'll stick with the guys they've got.
  16. Middleton extended, Vasquez picked up.....wonder if there's a plan at work here. If so, I'm curious to see what that plan is.
  17. Carter can either crush the ball, or spectacularly strike out. Branyanesque in that way. I've seen it firsthand. Singleton was basically handed first last year, and couldn't hit his way out of a paper bag. I'm hoping he figures it out. I just can't see the Astros being remotely interested in Lohse or Garza. They're looking for winners, not gutty gamers or gutsy battlers.
  18. Exactly this. The Astros have no need for garbage. Keuchel is a stud, McCullers has held his own, McHugh has been up and down and Valasquez has been great for a guy jumping from AA. Feldman is coming back and he's a 4/5 at best. They've got the parts to go for Cueto or Kazmir (and I think he's the one ultimately, because he's from Houston), but if they're going for it this year, which I hope they do, they need good pitchers, not middle of the road pitchers who are either underperforming or on the downside of their career.....or both. I saw a rumor that there was interest in Gomez by the Astros. I'm not quite sure why they would do that, because Marisnick, Springer and Rasmus are all capable of playing CF. And most of the time, those three have comprised the outfield. They either need to get Production from Carter or Singleton, and that will go a long way offensively. Correa coming up has been amazing. He's as good, if not better than advertised.
  19. Greivis Vasquez. Interesting pickup.
  20. Do you live in Texas? Do you get, and watch Houston Astros baseball games? I do, and have, and he was being hyped as one of the young stars in Houston. Young stars are the ones who are looked upon as being the draws at the gate. And when the broadcasters are comparing your power potential to that of Jeff Bagwell, a reasonable expectation is created. Exactly what The Stache said. Expectations were high and he flopped.
  21. There is, "what you want", and, "what is available"....when a team is this flat on its face, unfortunately, both will play a role. Fill the holes, while you build - like it or not. The Astros and the Cubs are two examples of what the Brewers need to do. Get what young talent you can get for the collection of stinking garbage you have, play all the young players you can while you invest heavily in building your young assets.
  22. You say that like it's not something really good to do in baseball. That's all he can do. Walk? Nope. Field? Not that great. Hit for average? Not really. So, great, you've got a guy who either gets out out or hits homers. Enjoy.
  23. Dominguez has no range. Sure, he can hit homers. Whoop de do. I saw him last season. Offensively and defensively, he's mediocre at best. Yes, the Brewers need to completely rebuild. Blow up the team and start over. If Dominguez is the kind of guy they looking for, then it will be a long, long time before the Brewers get above .500, let alone sniff the playoffs.
