  1. Villaneuva was entering the inning at 78 pitches. Pitchers start to falter at 80 usually. You have to be aware and getting players ready. So what happens then if Yost takes CV out after the first hit or two and the relief pitcher gives up runs? Is that still Yost's fault then?
  2. I have a memo to Rotoworld: If a tree falls and no one is there, does it make a sound? and...does it really matter what Yost did or didn't do with CV if the Brewers only score one run in a game? I have a feeling this is going to be a long filled Yost hating season, but Yost doesn't swing at first pitches and have a horrible plate approach. Yost has been talking about the exact opposite and having good at bats. Yost is going to get blamed for quite a bit this year. I'm surprised nobody has blamed Prince's giving up meat and lack of production so far on Yost.
  3. There's a BBQ restaurant on the 4th floor of the stadium offices, but I personally won't eat there. Are you talking about the Sounds or the Stars? I think one reason people don't tailgate is that it's so hot in Nasvhille in the summer...much warmer and consistent than Wisconsin. The players for the Sounds usually don't even come out to warm up until there is 10 minutes or so until the first pitch -- when it's really hot. Don't get your hopes up for the Sounds' ballpark. It's in bad shape. I really enjoy going to the Sounds games though because it's cheap (most expensive ticket is $10) and you get a lot more access to the players in terms of baseball talk and what their coaches are trying to get them to accomplish. I think part of that is because Nashville is far from a baseball town and you can pick up great seats the day of the game. The only thing I would watch out for is Thirsty Thursday nights. Those games have sold out in the past and you may be out of luck buying a ticket the day of the game.
  4. Just a heads up though (I'm not sure if this deal is nationwide or not), but Home Depot is having some crazy sales. Free delivery, gift cards, $50 off when opening a credit card account, 10% off, and zero payments or interest until January 2009 with purchases $299 & up. By far that was the best deal going on where I live and in comparison Lowe's had just free delivery. With the economy the way it is there are deals to be had out there.
  5. They want you to complain to your cable provider. mlb.tv revenue goes to all of MLB. TV revenue (indirectly) goes to individual clubs. I just don't see the logic in the mlb.tv blackouts in certain cases. There's no way I can watch the Reds through cable where I live yet I get blacked out for the games? This is my point and I don't think the $19.95 I pay every month is really going to hurt any teams revenue. mlb.tv doesn't generate a ton of revenue (no commercials) and with 1 million users per their site that's under $20 million of sales (even assuming they're all premium users). After costs and everything there really isn't that much money at all compared to television deals.
  6. How fast is the hurricane compared to other Brewers players?
  7. You think the Steinbrenner's are going to give up on getting YES fees from south Jersey? You think the Brewers are willing to concede La Crosse and Eau Claire to the Twins? You think the Cubs and the Cardinals are going to come to a friendly agreement over southern Illinois? What real impact does this have on mlb.tv though? If you're talking actual television that's one thing, but to blackout some of these mlb.tv games is flat out wrong. I live just south of Nashville and I'm blacked out on the Reds games...even though there isn't a provider (that I know of) in the cable business that broadcasts these games. I'm also blacked out from the Braves games, which to a certain extent I understand. I have never yet met one single Reds fan anywhere around here. It makes zero sense and I don't know how the mlb.tv revenue is structured, but I doubt any of the teams you mentioned would lose money with mlb.tv...now with the FSN channel or other sports network on cable that is a different story.
  8. Well since McClung has to clear waivers and the Brewers can test the water I think he's the guy that he's moved. I still think McClung can be a quality pitcher in the big leagues, but at this point and time the Brewers just don't have roster space for a guy like that. I don't think McClung is going to have a ton of trade value based on what we gave up for him. I also think Gross will be sent down or moved. I don't think McClung or Gross would pass waivers so they would most likely be on different teams, but that might be to their benefit.
  9. Quick question -- if the Brewers wanted to send McClung down I know he's out of options, but can they test the waters and if he does get claimed they can keep him the bigs? Or is it once he's optioned to Nashville the Brewers have to sit and hope he doesn't get claimed?
  10. No it doesn't. Those 20 PAs are easily made up by the fact that the pitcher is hit for late in games. I understand what you're saying and it makes sense, but to look at the post you replied to I think brings up a bigger concern. I don't think JJ is going to come reasonably close to last year's numbers hitting in front of the pitcher. JJ is a very good fastball hitter and if he was in the 2 spot I'm going to guess he'd see quite a few of those instead of hitting in front of the pitcher.
  11. I wouldn't knock on these requests too much. The economy (without getting too political) isn't doing so great and reading some of the posts you can see why. One guy has over $160k in credit card debt...let that sink in. Wow. I'm sure some of these are lies and trying to make money, but I wouldn't say I have $160k in credit card debt if I was trying to get someone to help me out. That's just sad...and a lot of money.
  12. It's really quite simple why Sheets will be gone or sign a contract below market value with the Brewers -- risk. He hasn't been dependable the past few years regardless of whether or not his injuries are arm related or not. Isn't it just fitting for Sheets to possibly have a monster year in the last year of his contract? I wouldn't mind offering a 3 year $36 million deal, but I doubt he would take that. If the 3 young pitchers perform well this year, it will make letting Sheets walk a lot easier.
  13. Paul is awesome but the Bucks made the right pick. Agreed. I believe it's also more difficult to find an All-Star big man than an All-Star point guard. Hopefully Bogut develops into that. When the Bucks took Bogut, they had absolutely zero big guys with his talent, but they had two quality point guards.
  14. I still think Bogut will "live up to" the number 1 pick in the draft. People (including those on this board) have bashed the pick because of what Chris Paul has done, which is fine. Drafting Chris Paul in the Bucks situation though would've been like the Packers taking 2 quarterbacks in the first 2 rounds of last year's draft. They had talent already on their roster and why draft additional talent at the spot? I also think people forget how Bogut dominated in college. He's had to adjust his style a bit to the NBA and it's still a growing process. He's been hurt by playing with crappy coaches, but he's still fighting through that and being a good player. I hope the next coach we have runs the offense through Bogut. He's too good of a passer to not get the ball almost every time down the court. I also think Bogut is going to develop into that "bad guy" down low that the Bucks have needed for so long. I'm not saying "bad guy" as in Anthony Mason bad, but a guy that is going to not give up easy baskets and will deliver a hard foul and send a message every now and then.
  15. Tony Bennett would be a big score but I dont think a Madison grad can have anything to do with Marquette unless its bashing. Its just an unwritten law which I will never understand. Tony graduated from UWGB.
  16. Saw Geoff Jenkins at the old 1225 on Water St. hitting on co-eds at the bar. I remember him being really short - looked like a complete tool. That wasn't all that uncommon for Jenkins. I have some friends who have met him at parties and stuff. The stories wouldn't be appropriate here, but Jenkins had a thing for the co-eds.
  17. To be fair, Thad Matta had Xavier in the Elite 8 before Miller got there, so I wouldn't credit Miller for putting them on the map. Xavier almost seems to be a stepping stone for coaches who want to go to a better program and conferece, ie Skip Prosser, Xavier to Wake Forest, Thad Matta went from there to Ohio State. I think Marquette would be a step up for Miller, since he'd be going to the Big East. I think it'd be great if we got him. That is true. Xavier has been getting further than Marquette in the tourney though as of late and I wonder if that has helped their recruiting at all. The Big East is a step up from the A-10 -- I guess it would boil down to Xavier's class for next year.
  18. Spoke just a few minutes too soon. According to JSOnline Kapler is getting the start and batting #2. What a difference a year can make. He wasn't even playing last year and now he's starting the second game of the season. Best of luck to Kapler!
  19. I guess the way I look at it is would each coach see the Marquette job as a significant upgrade regardless of their real interest or Marquette's real interest? Tony Bennett (Washington State) -- Yes Brad Brownwell (Wright State) -- Yes John Calipari (Memphis) -- No way Mark Few (Gonzaga) -- No way, not that Gonzaga is a storied program, but Few has been contacted several times over the past few years. Travis Ford (Massachusetts) -- Yes Anthony Grant (Virginia Commonwealth) -- Yes Jim Larranaga (George Mason) -- Yes Rick Majerus (St. Louis) -- Yes Sean Miller (Xavier) -- I'm not sure on this one. He's put Xavier on the map for a few years now. Tubby Smith (Minnesota) -- No -- I could go either way on this one. Bruce Weber (Illinois) -- No Buzz Williams (Marquette assistant) -- Yes
  20. I've heard it thrown around on a certain Badger board that catcher ERA is a bad stat and there is no proof of calling a 'good game' Is there stats like this somewhere? Can anyone post Estradas vs. Kendall or league average vs. Kendall? I'd find that stat quite interesting. I think Kendall had a good game working with Sheets, but his bigger test will be how he works with CV and Parra.
  21. I don't know if this helps at all (and you have probably thought about this), but some auto insurances cover mechanical breakdown. I believe Geico does and the deductible is $250. I've never tried this and my first reaction would be that the auto insurance most likely will decide that a major repair is too costly in relation to the value of a vehicle. Does anyone else know anything about this? I know with Geico you must have the auto shop contact Geico before any repairs are done.
  22. What I want to know now is whether or not we'll get $1200 or $1500. We just had a baby in 2008. Either way, I plan on exchanging it all for Euros. You should be getting $1500. From the latest I've read the $300 doesn't have a limit on per kids (it was reported that 3 was the limit earlier) and it is available to all kids born in 2008. I'm guessing if the child is born after the 2007 tax return there is a separate form you'll have to fill out. The joke at work has been (prior to March) that if you want to have a kid 2008 is a good year because you'll get "paid" to have a child.
  23. They also employ Colin Cowherd, who is a borderline human. He is pretty annoying. If he wouldn't bend everything so extreme, he'd actually have some pretty good points. He said one thing one time about Florida State football. It was something like: "Great offensive high school players go to Florida State -- to die. They don't have coaches and their offense is lousy. They go to the NFL then and are stars. Why? Because of the coaching." What he's saying makes a lot of sense, but being so extreme really hurts the point he's trying to get across.
  24. Do I expect $600, or $1200? I think it's $600 because I got a refund. You will get $1200. If your total income between your spouse and yourself is over $150k, you would receive less.
  25. ESPN doesn't bother me at all. It's ran like a good business is run. Obviously enough people are tuning into what they do and they really don't have any competition. If you hate it that much, don't tune in. I've also wondered why there is so much hate from some about ESPN. Are they really going to do a ton of features on the Brewers? That would be using the resources on one of the smaller fan bases in baseball and that wouldn't make sense nor interest the "average" fan. There are some fluff and some other stuff, but no network is perfect. They do things that annoy me, but I'm not going to say I hate ESPN. I really like Mike & Mike in the morning and I also hope they don't mess with it. I really disagree that ESPN destroyed Monday Night Football. I'd blame that on NBC for taking the good game. Most of the MNF games weren't even worth watching because of the matchups.
