I also think that will be the starting rotation, barring any off-season trades for pitching. Average age of that rotation would be 29.8 years old. Average FB velocities (2013) Gallardo - 90.7 Lohse - 89.8 Peralta - 94.5 Estrada - 89.1 Gorzelanny - 89.9 Even if you're a believer that Lohse, Estrada, and Gorzelanny would continue to be effective starting pitchers welcome to the dream of the average. Color me uninspired.

Fernandez is fantastic in Rattlers victory Wisconsin beats Kane County 3-1 By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers GRAND CHUTE, WI - Rodolfo Fernandez stepped up on Sunday for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. The right-hander out of Cuba made his first professional start and tossed a gem against the Kane County Cougars in Wisconsin's 3-1 victory. The win at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium allowed the Rattlers to pick up ground in the Western Division playoff chase. Alfredo Rodriguez put the Timber Rattlers (57-70 overall, 28-34 second half) in front with a run in the bottom of the third inning. His two-out single up the middle drove Orlando Arcia home from third base. Wisconsin added to their lead in the fourth inning. They had Tyrone Taylor at third and Victor Roache at first base with one out. Parker Berberet grounded into a force play at second to get Taylor home for a 2-0 lead. Fernandez carried a seventeen inning scoreless streak heading into Sunday's game. The native of Cuba kept Kane County off balance and off the scoreboard through the first five innings. The Cougars (52-75, 22-39) got to Fernandez in the sixth. Wilson Contreras stood at the plate with Gioskar Amaya at second and two outs. Contreras doubled just inside the bag at third base to drive in Amaya. An error on the play let Contreras take third base. That RBI hit ended the scoreless streak of Fernandez at 22-2/3 innings. Arcia made a stellar defensive play at short to end the bottom of the sixth inning and keep the Rattlers up 2-1. Marco Hernandez followed the Contreras play with a hot shot up the middle. Arcia made a diving stop of the ball, got to his feet, and fired a strike to first base to get Hernandez. Fernandez tossed six innings, allowed one run on four hits, walked none, and struck out five as he put Wisconsin in position to win the game. The Rattlers added to their lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. Victor Roache singled to start the inning and Berberet was hit by a pitch with one out. Kane County brought left-handed reliever Al Yevoli on in relief of starter Starling Peralta to face Max Walla. The left-handed hitting Walla pulled a double inside the first base bag to drive in Roache and the Rattlers lead was back to two runs. Mike Strong took over for Fernandez in the top of the seventh. He allowed a leadoff double only to strand that runner at third base. In the eighth, Strong worked around a leadoff single and a two-out double to keep the Cougars off the scoreboard. He tossed a perfect ninth inning with a pair of strikeouts to close out the Cougars. Strong allowed three hits, struck out five, and earned his first save of the season. The Clinton LumberKings entered Sunday's action at 31-30 in the second half and holding a four game lead over the Timber Rattlers for the Wild Card. But, Clinton lost 6-4 at Beloit to drop to .500 on the half.. Additionally, Peoria lost 9-1 at Cedar Rapids. Wisconsin has moved even with Peoria in the second half standings. Both teams are 28-34 and trail Clinton by three games for the Wild Card with eight games remaining in the regular season. The series continues on Monday night at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Tyler Wagner (9-8, 3.29) is scheduled as the starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. James Pugliese (0-0, 7.20) is the scheduled starter for the Cougars. Game time is 7:05pm. Cougars charge past Wisconsin 5-3 Rattlers can't hold lead and fall in series opener By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers GRAND CHUTE, WI - The chances were there for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Saturday night against the Kane County Cougars. But, the Cougars were the team that cashed in for the 5-3 victory at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. The loss also cost Wisconsin a chance to pick up ground in the Western Division Wild Card race. Opportunity knocked for the Timber Rattlers (56-70 overall, 27-34 second half) in the bottom of the second inning. But, they could not score despite three consecutive hits to start the inning. Victor Roache started the inning with a ground rule double to center. Mike Garza followed with a single up the middle and Roache tried to score. The throw home from Oliver Zapata was in time to get Roache for the first out. Parker Berberet was at the plate when a pitch trickled away from Kane County catcher Wilson Contreras. Garza took off for second and got hung up between first and second as Contreras quickly recovered the baseball. Garza was tagged up in the rundown for the second out. Berberet, who had three hits in the game, singled later in the at bat for Wisconsin's third straight hit. Kane County starting pitcher Tayler Scott got the next batter on a grounder to first to end the inning. The Cougars (52-74, 22-38) took the lead in the next half inning. Trevor Gretzky tripled with one out in the top of the third inning. Gioskar Amaya got Gretzky home with a sacrifice fly and the Cougars led 1-0. That was the only run Preston Gainey gave up in his five innings of work. The Rattlers got going offensively in the bottom of the fifth inning. Berberet singled and Max Walla walked to start the frame. The Cougars were expecting Orlando Arcia to bunt, but the Wisconsin shortstop chopped a single over the head of the third baseman to load the bases. Alfredo Rodriguez was at the plate when a passed ball let Berberet score to tie the game. Rodriguez put the Rattlers up 3-1 with a two-run double. The Cougars went back in front in the top of the seventh inning against reliever Ryan Gibbard. Jose Dore started the inning with a triple to right. Brad Zapenas drove in Dore with a sacrifice fly to cut Wisconsin's lead to a single run. Kane County had a runner at first with two outs after a single and a force out at second base. Zapata stepped in and tripled to knock in the runner from first to tie the game. Then, Jeimer Candelario followed with a single to right against Gibbard to give Kane County a 4-3 lead. Giuseppe Papaccio extended Kane County's advantage to 5-3 with a solo home run in the eighth inning off Ryan Fasano. Wisconsin attempted to stage a rally in the bottom of the ninth inning against Stephen Perakslis. Alfredo Rodriguez singled with one out and Michael Reed drew a walk to bring the winning run to the plate. But, Perakslis got the final two outs of the game with a strikeout and a popup to deal a serious blow to the Rattlers playoff chances. The Rattlers had an opportunity to gain a game on the Clinton LumberKings, the second half Wild Card leaders. Clinton lost 7-4 at Beloit. But, Wisconsin's loss keeps them four games behind Clinton with nine games remaining in the regular season. Game two of the series is Sunday afternoon. Rodolfo Fernandez (3-3, 2.63) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin. Kane County sends Starling Peralta (2-1, 4.63) to the mound. Game time is 1:05pm. Sunday is a full day at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. McClone Insurance and the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers are holding their annual Strike Out Cancer Day. Rattlers win and cut into Clinton's Wild Card lead Wisconsin wins 1-0 Friday night By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers CLINTON, IA - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers needed a win at Clinton on Friday night. They got it. Alfredo Rodriguez drove in the only run of the game and three Wisconsin pitchers combined on the four-hit, 1-0 shutout at Ashford University Field. Austin Ross, Allan Williams, and Taylor Wall kept the LumberKings off the scoreboard and helped Wisconsin move a little closer in the playoff chase. Parker Berberet started the Wisconsin fifth inning with a double off the wall in left-center. Clinton starter Victor Sanchez got the next two outs, but threw a wild pitch with Adrian Williams at the plate to allow Berberet to take third. Williams would draw a walk to get the inning to Alfredo Rodriguez. The Rattlers leadoff batter smacked a double down the line in right to score Berberet and the Rattlers (56-69 overall, 27-33 second half) were up 1-0. Ross faced difficult situations in the first and third innings, but escaped each time. In the bottom of the first, a walk and a hit batsman put runners at first and second with one outs. Ross got out of the jam by getting Gaby Guerrero to ground into a 6-4-3 double play. In bottom of the third inning, the LumberKings (64-65, 31-29) got the leadoff batter on base due to an error. A two out walk put two runners on base for Guerrero again. Then, Ross struck out Guerrero to end the threat. Ross allowed two hits, walked two, and struck out five in his five innings. Alan Williams took over for Ross in the sixth inning. The lefty, who was making his 2013 debut with the Timber Rattlers, allowed a leadoff single in the seventh and a two out double in the eighth inning. But Williams held the lead. Taylor Wall took over for the bottom of the ninth inning. Wall tossed a 1-2-3 inning, including two strikeouts. He struck out pinch-hitter Tyler Marlette to close out the game and earn his seventh save of the season. The victory moved the Timber Rattler to within four games of Clinton for the Western Division Wild Card with ten games left to play in the regular season. Clinton's remaining schedule includes a seven game road trip that starts on Friday with four games at Beloit followed by three games at Peoria. Clinton ends their season with three games at home against Cedar Rapids over Labor Day weekend. Final: Wisconsin 8, Clinton 5 Big night for Roache leads Rattlers to win in Clinton Rattlers slugger gets four hits, drives in four, and collects 21st homer of the season By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers CLINTON, IA - Victor Roache had a huge night for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers when the team needed it. The slugging outfielder went 4-for-5 with a homer, a double, and four RBI to pace Wisconsin to an 8-5 win over the Clinton LumberKings Thursday night at Ashford University Field. The win snapped Wisconsin's three-game losing streak and kept the team on the fringe of the playoff chase. Dario Pizzano put Clinton (64-64 overall, 31-28 second half) in front in the bottom of the first inning. He doubled high off the wall in left-center to drive in Alfredo Morales from first base with one out. Tyler Marlette doubled with two outs to knock in Pizzano, but was out at third as he tried to stretch his hit into a triple. Wisconsin (55-69, 26-33) answered with a run in the top of the second inning. Orlando Arcia singled with two outs to drive Max Walla home from second base. Garrett Cooper extended the top of the third inning with a two-out single. Then, Roache unloaded with a home run to center. The homer was the 21st of the season for Roache and put the Rattlers in front 3-2. Roache has tied Matt Hagen (2003) and Juan Silvestre (1999) for second on the franchise single season home run list. Current Brewers outfielder Khris Davis holds the Timber Rattlers single season home run record with 22. Davis set the mark in the 2010 season. Roache drove in another run in the top of the fifth inning. His two-out single to center scored Tyrone Taylor from third base. The Rattlers maintained that 4-2 lead until the bottom of the sixth. Gaby Guerrero reached on a single with one out. Janelfry Zorilla followed with a long home run to left field to tie the game 4-4. Rattlers starting pitcher Jorge Lopez got the second out in the sixth, but fell behind Brock Hebert 2-0. The Clinton shortstop lined the next pitch over the wall in left for his first home run of the season. That gave Clinton a 5-4 advantage. Wisconsin stormed back in the top of the seventh. Tyrone Taylor singled and Michael Reed walked to start the inning against lefty Blake Holovach. A sacrifice bunt by Mike Garza put Rattlers on second and third. Clinton brought right-hander Richard Vargas in to face Cooper and Roache. The strategy did not work. Cooper smacked the first pitch from Vargas through the drawn-in infield into right field to score both Taylor and Reed to put Wisconsin up 6-5. Cooper took second base on an errant throw to the plate. Roache followed with a double into the corner in right to drive in Cooper. Later in the inning Roache scored on a passed ball to put the Rattlers up 8-5. Rattlers reliever Jono Armold, who got the final out of the bottom of the sixth, got the first out in the bottom of the seventh. A single and a walk brought the tying run to the plate. Armold got the second out on a fly ball to leave the runners where they were. Gaby Guerrero was next and he worked the count full. Guerrero lined the payoff pitch from Armold for what looked like a sure hit down the right field line. But, Cooper made a leaping grab to rob Guerrero and end the inning. Armold pitched a perfect eighth inning and turned the ball over to Hobbs Johnson for the ninth. Johnson, the 14th round pick of the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2013 draft, retired the side in order in the bottom of the ninth with a pair of strikeouts for his first save with the Timber Rattlers. The win moved Wisconsin back to within five games of the LumberKings for the second half Western Division Wild Card with eleven games remaining in the regular season. Game three of the series - and the final game of Wisconsin's seven game road trip - is scheduled for Friday night. Austin Ross (1-0, 3.49) is scheduled to start for the Timber Rattlers. Clinton sends Victor Sanchez (6-5, 2.75) to the mound. Game time is 6:30pm. Tune in for the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM or IHeartRadio starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 6:10pm.
