The trade value of Casey McGehee ?
TheCrew07 replied to The Truth's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Our biggest need as an organization has been and will remain pitching until some of our prospects blossom (hopefully). To acquire valuable pitching we need to be willing to part with a piece that will hurt like a Fielder, Hart, Hardy, or McGehee when they are performing at a high level. Every time a hitter performs well people can't fathom trading him and in fact Melvin can't fathom trading him, so our pitching situation as organization has never significantly improved. You may not like McGehee as a choice, I personally don't care anymore, but the theory is much more sound that these video game trades for CY candidate pitcher deals that tend to be proposed. -
Trout homers to lead off the game for CR, Chris said Arnett made a nice pitch. I can't wait for Trout to get out of town he's been so irritating at the plate and on the bases. Thank God he's ultimately in the AL. I didn't realize the T-Rats would be facing Garrett Richards today, he's a top prospect for the Angels, he started the year great but he's really struggled his last 3 outings giving up 16 runs in 18.2 IP.

edit. On second thought, this is a thread about Huntsville and I'm not going to derail it further.

The Florida State League (FSL) is a 12 team league. Space Coast Stadium (home of BC) is particularly brutal on RH batters with winds that regularly blow in from LF at over 20 MPH. Team Batting BA - .256 7th. Bradenton is your league leader at .281 OBP - .308 9th, Bradenton is once again the leader at .362 SLG - .326 10th, Bradenton will be a familiar theme here leading with a .414 OPS - .663 10th, Bradenton is predictably the league leader at .776 Runs - 116 6th, Bradenton not so surprisingly has scored the most at 160 2B - 43 10th, Bradenton has 67 HR - 1 12th, there's a Harry Doyle joke here someplace... St. Lucie leads the league with 25 BB - 57 12th, Palm Beach has drawn 126 walks so far this year SO - 210 6th, Charlotte has the fewest with 181, St. Lucie the most with 244 SB - 37 1st, Jupiter is right behind with 36 on the season. Individual FSL Batting Leaders AVG - Jack Rye a Yankees prospect at .397 just barely qualified with 68 ABs on the season. Matt Cline is 12th at .329, Erik Komatsu is 18th .331. Shawn Zarraga and Kentrail Davis have the best AVG on the team, Zarraga his hitting .400 through 40 ABs, Davis is hitting .390 through 41 ABs. OBP - Matt Carpenter a Cardinals prospect at .458. Matt Cline is 7th at .423, unfortunately no other Manatees are in the top 20. Kentrail Davis is sporting a .468 and Shawn Zaaraga a .442. SLG - Cody Overbeck a Phillies prospect with an incredible .728 through 103 ABs. Erik Komatsu is the only Manatee in the top 20 in 17th with a .456. Kentrail Davis' .537 would be good for 5th if he qualified. OPS - Cody Overbeck is no surprise given his SLG, he's sporting a 1.143 OPS thus far. No Manatees in the top 20, Erik Komatsu just missed with an .834, Kentrail Davis would be 2nd with a 1.005 if he qualified. SB - Kevin Mattisona Marlins Prospect with 18. Erik Komatsu is tied for 7th with 8, Josh Prince is tied for 13th with a bunch of players who have 6 And That was right on the money regarding Matt Cline, with Zarraga being a nice surprise the BC offense might be on the up swing if Davis can stay in the lineup. Historically the FSL has been a league that like the Midwest League has favored pitching. Team Pitching ERA - 3.60 6th, Lakeland leads with a 2.90 Hits - 241 6th, Charlotte has given up the fewest with 197, Daytona the most giving up 268 Runs - 113 4th, Clearwater has only given up 92, St. Lucie is the worst at 157 HR - 10 tied for 3rd, Dunedin has only coughed up 5 on the season, Fort Meyers a woeful 21. BB - 113 11th, Lakeland has only issued 56, St. Lucie the most with 125. It's not so surprising that BB total directly correlates to the Run total. SO - 216 6th, Charlotte has K'd the most batters with 260 thus far, that total is far an away the best. Bradenton is the next closest team at 228, Palm Beach has the fewest with 183 WHIP - 1.37 tied for 7th, Lakeland has the best at 1.13, St. Lucie is the worst by a wide margin at 1.56, no other team has a higher WHIP than 1.41 Individual Pitching Leaders ERA - Bryan Morris a Pirates prospect at 0.78. He's old for the league but check out his peripherals, here's a glowing scouting report of him as well. Michael Fiers is 12th at 2.41, Wily Peralta is 18th at 3.31. BB - Craig Heyer a 24 year old Yankee not so prospect leads with 0 BBs issued in over 18 IP. Corey Frerichs has the fewest on the staff with 5, Evan Frederickson the most with 17 in 11.1 IP, Cody Scarpetta has issued 14, Wily Peralta 13. SO - Brayan Villarreal a Tigers prospect with 41 but 5 other pitchers have as many as 38 thus far. Wily Peralta is tied for 11th with 30, Michael Fiers is 18th 29... that should give you a hint how tightly packed the top pitchers in the FSL are packed thus far. Cody Scarpetta has 22 but has 1 less start on the season than Fiers and Peralta. Trey Watten and Daniel Meadows both have 18 in 19.0 and 18.1 IP respectively. WHIP - Brayan Villarreal once again with a ridiculous 0.84. Michael Fiers is 7th with 1.01, Daniel Merklinger is 13th at 1.13, Wily Peralta just missed the top 20 at 1.32, Cody Scarpetta is carrying a 1.54... way too many walks Wily and Cody. Corey Frerichs, Daniel Meadows, and Nick Green didn't qualify on the list but are carrying a 0.86(!), 1.31, and 1.29 respectively. On the pitching side the BC staff has been pretty good outside of Frederickson and Tyson, but the pitching in the league has been outstanding thus far. It will be interesting to see how the league ultimately shakes out after the 23/24/25 year old pitchers get bumped up to AA.

Cubs call up top prospect SS Starlin Castro
TheCrew07 replied to TooLiveBrew's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
This seems awfully reactionary, akin to Milwaukee summoning Braddock for a bullpen role after 1 month of the season. I guess when you are the Cubs you don't really have to worry about super 2 status, but I'm not seeing the upside here in rushing Castro for the Cubs in terms of wins or money saved? He's hitting to a .990 OPS thus far in AA which is far and away better than anything he's done prior in his MiLB career so it's possible the light went on him for him. I really hate the Cubs (the only team in the division I actually loathe) and they have some pretty nice pitching talent quickly approaching the big leagues as well. At least they have all those bad contracts still weighting them down. -
Your 2010 Wisconsin Timber Rattlers
TheCrew07 replied to bnedaddy's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
linkwhile active, text follows Gennett Looking Like a Prospect Brett Christopherson/Appleton Post-Crescent Here's Scooter Gennett's bio entry in the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 2010 Media Guide: PERSONAL: Graduated from Sarasota (FL) High School. ... participated in the 2008 Aflac All-American High School Baseball Classic at Dodger Stadium. ... committed to play baseball at Florida State University before signing with the Brewers. ... Ryan (Scooter) J. Gennett. That's it. Here's what you can add today: Has the third-highest batting average (.352) in the Midwest League as of Friday, May 7. That's right. Gennett -- selected by the Crew in the 16th round of the 2009 draft -- has gone from being a diamond in the rough into a potential gem of a prospect through the first month of the season. Yes, it's still very early (cliche alert!), but what the kid has accomplished thus far has been impressive, especially when you consider he only turned 20 this past Saturday and entered the season without a professional at-bat. http://sitelife.postcrescent.com/ver1.0/Content/images/store/13/0/2da7bc6b-b703-4ca9-a0da-1b0493764515.Large.jpg Rattlers infielder Scooter Gennett The Post-Crescent photo by Wm. Glasheen He headed into Friday's Miller Park game against Cedar Rapids hitting .435 (10-of-23) over his previous five contests. And in 91 at-bats spanning his first 25 games, Gennett had produced 11 doubles, a homer, 17 RBI, 22 runs scored and a .505 slugging percentage. Decent pop from a 5-foot-9, 165-pound frame, wouldn't you agree? Gennett has also shown an improving glove, good range and a strong arm from the middle infield spots. And he even displayed some healthy nerve when he used his bat to draw a line in the dirt following a called third strike during a game earlier in the year. It was his way of showing the ump he felt the pitch was well off the plate without uttering a word. Of course, the kid was tossed, and Rattlers manager Jeff Isom frowned on the incident afterward. But a tinge of cockiness from time to time isn't necessarily a bad thing. Gennett's name doesn't appear on Baseball America's list of the Brewers' top minor league prospects. It will next year if he keeps doing what he's doing. Kudos to Brewers scout Tim McIlvaine for finding him -- and signing him -
Final: Nashville 11, Alburquerqe (Dodgers) 1 Waters Deals, Sounds Explode For 11 Joe Koshansky Homers And Drives In Five ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Nashville Sounds exploded for 11 runs to beat the Albuquerque Isotopes, 11-1, on Friday evening at Isotopes Park in the opener of a four-game set. Sounds starting pitcher Chris Waters (3-0) pitched a gem to earn his third win of the season, allowing one run on seven hits with two strikeouts in eight innings. First baseman Joe Koshansky led the attack with a 3-for-5 performance, homering and doubling while driving in five runs. Outfielder Norris Hopper also added three hits and two RBIs. The Sounds first three runs came in the opening frame as Koshansky belted his third home run of the season, an opposite-field three-run shot over the left field wall for a 3-0 lead. Nashville added another three runs in the next inning, with the first run coming on throwing errors on two straight plays that plated shortstop Luis Cruz. Hopper and Koshansky then crushed consecutive two-out RBI doubles that extended the lead to 6-0. Outfielder Trent Oeltjen got in the action in the next inning, extending his season-high hitting streak to six games with a leadoff solo home run. After an Adam Heether single, Cruz then smacked his second long ball of the season, a two-run shot to left field for a 10-0 Nashville lead. The Sounds tacked on another run in the next inning as Ray Olmedo hit a leadoff triple and was plated on a Hopper infield groundout. The Isotopes scored their lone run in the bottom of seventh inning as Prentice Redman scored on a Chin-lung Hu groudout. Sounds reliever Tim Dillard threw a perfect ninth inning while fanning two to finish the game. Albuquerque starter Josh Towers (2-3) took the loss after being rocked for 10 runs (seven earned) in 2 2/3 innings pitched. The Sounds and Isotopes continue with the second game of a four-game series at 8:05 pm CT on Saturday night at Isotopes Park. Nashville southpaw Chase Wright (2-0, 3.07) faces Albuquerque righty Tim Corcoran (1-2, 7.20). Nashville Box ScoreLots to take in here, it will be interesting to see what happens with the AAA rotation, no one is really pitching poorly and they have to make room for Capuano now and Butler eventually. Olmedo (2), Stern (2), Hopper (3), Koshansky (3), Oeltjen (2), and Cruz(2) all had multi hit games. Koshanky, Oeltjen, and Cruz all homered, Olmedo tripled, and Hopper, Koshansky, Oeltjen, and Cruz all doubled. Yes it was an XBH fest in NM tonight. Unfortunately Lucroy was on the only position player without a hit. Nashville Game Log The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd innings are very busy as you would have guessed from the game summary above.

link while active, text below Jimenez does it to Wisconsin again By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers MILWAUKEE, WI - Luis Jimenez has become a nemesis for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. The third baseman for the Cedar Rapids Kernels broke a scoreless tie with a two-run triple, scored twice, and made a sparkling defensive play to snuff out a Wisconsin rally in the bottom of the ninth. The Kernels defeated the Rattlers 6-1 Friday night at Miller Park in front of 12,667 fans. Both starting pitchers had their A-game rolling through five innings. Wisconsin's Damon Krestalude allowed one hit and walked one in his first five innings. Orangel Arenas of the Kernels gave up three hits in the first two innings, but retired 13 in a row after giving up back-to-back singles to start the bottom of the second inning. Krestalude blinked first. He got the first out of the sixth, but gave up back-to-back singles to Mike Trout and Ivan Contreras and left the game as he had reached over 90 pitches on the night. Andre Lamontagne relieved and gave up a triple to Jimenez. The three-bagger drove in both Trout and Contreras for a 2-0 lead. Jimenez has 12 RBI during the 2010 Midwest League season. Nine of those 12 RBI have come against the Timber Rattlers. Eric Oliver's infielder grounder scored Jimenez for a 3-0 Kernels advantage. Randal Grichuck singled and Casey Haerther singled to put runners at the corners with two outs. Cedar Rapids (15-14) stole a run with a little help to cap the rally. Haerther attempted to steal second. Rattlers catcher Cameron Garfield pump-faked to second and had Grichuck way off the bag at third. But, Garfield's throw to third was high and wound up in left field. Grichuck easily scored for a 4-0 lead. Cedar Rapids added to their lead with two runs in the eighth. Jimenez reached on an error and scored on a triple by Grichuk. A double by Haerther sent Grichuk home for a 6-0 lead. Arenas left the game after seven scoreless innings. He allowed four hits, walked two, and struck out six. Wisconsin (9-19) put together a two-out rally in the bottom of the eighth against Mike Kenney. Scooter Gennett doubled. Khris Davis singled him home. In the bottom of the ninth inning, the Rattlers loaded the bases with one out against David Carpenter. The Kernels reliever got the second out on a popout. D'Vontrey Richardson worked the count to 3-1 and sent a line drive ticketed for the left field corner. But, Jimenez was there with a leaping, back-handed stab of the screamer to end the game. The Rattlers return home to face the Kernels on Saturday afternoon at Time Warner Cable Field. Jake Odorizzi (1-1, 4.76) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin. Tyler Skaggs (1-1, 0.47) is scheduled to start for Cedar Rapids. Game time is 1:05pm. If you can't make it to the game, tune if for the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM. The Miller Lite Pregame Show starts at 12:45pm. WP: Orangel Arenas (2-4) LP: Damon Krestalude (1-1) TIME: 2:45 ATTN: 12,667

link while active, text below Capuano, offense powers BC past Tampa By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees Another big night from the Manatees offense and a solid start from a former National League All-Star propelled Brevard County past the Tampa Yankees 8-3 on Friday night in front of 1,892 fans at Space Coast Stadium. The Manatees picked up right where they left off in the bottom of the first as Kentrail Davis drove in Matt Cline to put Brevard County up 1-0. Tampa's Addison Maruszak led off the second with a double and scored two batters later, to tie the game, thanks to a RBI ground out by Mitch Abeita. Three consecutive two-out RBI hits from Erik Komatsu, Davis and Sergio Miranda gave the Manatees the lead again at 4-1 in the bottom of the third. Chris Capuano, likely making his final start for the Manatees, threw five innings and allowed just one run on six hits, while fanning five Yankee hitters. The Yankees would strike back with a run in the sixth, but the Manatees responded in a big way in the bottom of the inning. Brevard County plated four in the frame thanks to timely hitting and several Yankee mistakes. The Manatees singled four times and benefited from two passed balls, one error and one walk, to take an 8-2 lead. Dan Merklinger relieved Capuano and kept the Yanks at bay as he went three innings and allowed one run on two hits. Komatsu, Davis, Miranda and Anderson De La Rosa each had two hits. Brevard County went 6-for-14 with runners in scoring position and swiped four bases. Erik Miller had a fantastic catch in the top of the seventh, crashing into the right field wall and saving an extra-base hit. The Manatees and Yankees will close out their three-game series on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. in Viera. Saturday's game is "Batting for a Cure" night as the Manatees will be wearing special pink jerseys and help raise money for the American Cancer Society and continue the fight against breast cancer.

Final: Cedar Rapids (Angels) 6, Wisconsin 1 Timber Rattlers Box Score A very nice pitching performance by Damon Krestalude goes to waste. He left hitting his pitch count (95 unofficiall) with 1 out and runners on 1st and 2nd in the 6. Lamontange who had been very solid all year allowed both inherited runners to score, plus 2 of his own. Thielbar followed up allowing 2 runs of his own, he's been struggling lately, being scored upon 4 times in his last 5 outings giving up 7 ER in 7.2 IP over that span. On the offensive side of things Gennett continues to rake, Gennett (2), Dennis (3), and Dykstra (2) all had multi hit games. Dennis and Gennett both doubled as well. I've been down on Dykstra since he was picked, but it's nice to see him starting out this season well after a humiliating season last year. Keep an eye on Mike Trout from Cedar Rapids, he's like our version of Gennett with more speed. Timber Rattlers Game Log The T-Rats squandered an opportunities in the 2nd and 9th, I wasn't exactly down with the Marseco sacrifice that early in the game. D'Vo lined out to end the game on a very nice play by the opposing 3B Jimenez, the ball was ticketed for the LF corner but it wasn't meant to be. Wisconsin Bottom 2nd Chris Dennis singles on a ground ball to center fielder Mike Trout. Cutter Dykstra singles on a line drive to right fielder Randal Grichuk. Chris Dennis to 2nd. Michael Marseco out on a sacrifice bunt, first baseman Casey Haerther to second baseman Ivan Contreras. Chris Dennis to 3rd. Cutter Dykstra to 2nd. Franklin Romero strikes out swinging. D' Vontrey Richardson called out on strikes. Wisconsin Bottom 9th Pitcher Change: David Carpenter replaces Mike Kenney. Cameron Garfield called out on strikes. Chris Dennis singles on a line drive to center fielder Mike Trout. Cutter Dykstra singles on a ground ball to third baseman Luis Jimenez. Chris Dennis to 2nd. Michael Marseco walks. Chris Dennis to 3rd. Cutter Dykstra to 2nd. Franklin Romero pops out to first baseman Casey Haerther in foul territory. D' Vontrey Richardson lines out to third baseman Luis Jimenez.

Komatsu, Davis, Miranada, and De La Rosa all had multi hit games, Davis and Miranda each add a 2B to their line. Cline also had a nice night at the plate as he managed to walk 3 times. The Manatees also stole 4 bases in the game. Brevard County Game Log Very eventful 6th for BC, they managed to score 2 runs on Passed Balls, 1 of those on Miller's K. Team Pitching ERA - 5.10 16th, Clinton leads the league with a 3.02 HR - 19 14th, Beloit leads with only 8 allowed BB - 140 14th, Lansing leads having only allowed 69 on the season SO - 196 16th, Quad Cities leads with 249 in only 242.1 IP WHIP - 1.47 15th, Great Lakes leads with a 1.21 Once again the Midwest League is a 16 team league. Individual Pitching Leaders ERA - Anthony Vasquez a Mariner prospect leads with a .74. No T-Rats in the top 20, Damon Krestalude has the best ERA with a 3.75 BB - Erasmo Ramirez another Mariner prospect is your leader with 0 BB in 20.1 IP. Caleb Thielbar has the fewest with 3 in 17.1 IP, Nick Bucci has the most with 15 SO - Liam Hendriks a Twins prospect who I've linked to before leads with 39 in 34 IP. Once again no T-Rats in the top 20, Jake Odorizzi is the team leader with 25, Del Howell has the fewest of the starters with 9 WHIP - Liam Hendriks once again with a ridiculous .59. Damon Krestalude is 12th with a 1.00, unforunately no other T-Rats are in the top 20. Other than Jeff Suppan my boy Del Howell has the worst with a 2.29. Hang in there Del, it's all down hill from here. edit. Bucci actually has the lowest ERA at 2.61 but he doesn't meet the IP qualification

I wasn't going to take the bait again but I find the notion that you can't comprehend why people have issues with Melvin or Macha fairly bizarre. Either you haven't been taking the time read what people have posting, or you've dismissed the ideas off the cuff because you don't agree. It doesn't really matter because either way you haven't taken the time to understand the alternative point of view. No one has ever said you have to agree, but you aren't even trying. You want a simple point? Mat Gamel has almost a year of MLB service time earned and he's started a grand total of 24 games in his career. You don't get better on the field by watching, you get better by playing, but Macha didn't know what to do with him because he was in a "zim-zam". So Gamel wasted away the bench and we'll have lost a year of services before he's become an everyday starter. It's an incredible waste not only of Mat's talent, but it's been an incredible waste of value to the organization as well, we could have called up any number of different players to come up to the bigs and sit on the bench. Simply put, because of his injury our best hitting prospect was paid for a full season to sit on the bench and lose his confidence in the process. This point has nothing to do with whatt McGehee was or wasn't doing, this is about player development and getting the most possible value out of your players before they walk away in FA, and the organization has failed miserably on both accounts with Mat.

Why has Milwaukee's defense been so bad this year?
TheCrew07 replied to endaround's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I get that as well but how would that compare to other catchers around the league? How many errors have they made on so few attempts in the first month? I was comparing Zaun against other players at his position, not saying the defense is horrible because of him. That's all I meant. -

I get that, but didn't he throw the ball away throwing to first a couple of times already? -

Team Batting BA - .268 BA 2nd, Lansing is now in 1st with a .272. Both teams were tied going into yesterday's action. Runs - 144 2nd, Cedar Rapids is currently in 1st with 149 2B - 58 2nd, Lansing as a whopping 73 already in 1st HR - 14 8th. Great Lakes has already hit 31 HR on the season, Cliinton is the next closest team with 27. OBP - .343 4th, Quad Cities is leading the league with a .354 SLG - .411 2nd, predictably Great Lakes with all those HRs is 1st with .433 OPS - .754 2nd, Great Lakes is 1st with a .758 BB - 94 7th, the league leader is Quad Cities with 147! SO - 207 6th, Dayton has the fewest with 190 SB - 25 11th, Lansing has more than doubled that number with 55 Just a reminder that the Midwest League is a 16 team league now, so having 2 prospects in the top 20 is very good, much less the top 10. Individual Batting Leaders BA - Bo Greenwell. an Indians prospect at .361. Scooter Gennett is 3rd with .352, Kris Davis is 8th at .333, and Peter Fatse is 15th with a .309 OBP - Niko Vasquez a Cardinals prospect and at ..450. Scooter Gennett is 5th at .431, Chris Dennis is still 13th despite his extended slump at .417, Kris Davis is 16th with a .410, and Peter Fatse is 19th at .400 SLG - Jeremy Sands who is a Dodger prospect is SLG a whopping .760 in over 100 PAs. Peter Fatse is 3rd with a .588, Kris Davis is 8th with a .538, Scooter Gennett is 12th with a .505, and Chris Dennis is 16th with a .500 OPS - Jeremy Sands is again the leader with a 1.175. Peter Fatse is 3rd with a .988, Kris Davis is 7th sporting a ,947, Scooter Gennett has a .937 in 8th, Chris Dennis is 11th with a .917 SB - Jose Valzdez a Cubs prospect with 17, Mike Trout who is Angels prospect is 2nd with 15, he's a name to remember. There are no T-Rats in the top 20. BB - Conner Crumbliss an A's propect and Niko Vasquez are tied at 30, Chris Dennis is 9th at 18 even though he's been slumping and only has 4 in the last 10 games, he's the only T-Rat in the top 20.
