  1. I'm sorry but I have a hard time being civil when people suggest that our team should just give up 3 top prospects for a rental pitcher. Instead of saying something nasty, I'm just going to avoid this thread.
  2. Thank the lord for Yuku and no more silly hyphenated words.
  3. Cody was supposed to start yesterday and they only got one game in, so I assume that bumped him back a day and we'll see Jeffress tomorrow.
  4. 2 picks for Sheets, 2 picks for Sabathia
  5. They won't get a draft pick back as high as LaPorta was drafted, it's not apples to apples. We're talking about someone much farther away from being MLB ready. LaPorta hit AA in a year... you tell me how often that happens? edit. A fair deal for both sides to me would be Laporta, Bell, and Periard... it's not often a team nets a top 20 prospect in a rental deal, that alone should carry some weight.
  6. You sir, are such a stud, that you can get away with quoting yourself... Money said Brantley has an average arm and can go get the ball in CF.. I know there might be some spin there, but he was pretty candid about the other guys. I find his comments about Brantley very encouraging, especially the part about getting him to settle in box and not slide around, which has helped his power. I was interested in how he quickly broke down Gamel's defensive issues for the listeners, that was well done. I was surprised that Money jumped on the Boggs bandwagon, but he made it a point to highlight that Gamel has more power than Boggs did. LaPorta is just holding his own? After he elaborated some it made it more sense, that LaPorta needs to make better adjustments as the pitchers adjust to him, but still he's hitting almost .300 with 20 bombs. As far as Salome goes he pretty much echoed what coach had said earlier. The comments about Escobar were pretty much par for the course... far and away the best shortstop in the league, thinks he could be a .280 hitter.
  7. Both are entering the tail end of their careers. They aren't dead, but the average player peaks before 30 and slowly declines. Sabathia is in his Prime right now, Sheets is at the tail end of his prime. My statements aren't regarding next year or the year after, but I think people constantly overlook what the Brewers would be paying for at the end of the deal... when Sabathia is 35 or Sheets is 36? Look around the league at once dominant pitchers who have reached that age, how many are worth 20+/year? Even if you totally discount the fact the Brewers would have to pay the other 23 players around 40 million dollars total, is that 20+/per money well spent? As I've stated before, it's going to come down to years, and I don't see how the Brewers can go more than 4 years in either case. With all due to respect to you and Jason Stark, the fact that Sabathia wouldn't do any sort of home town discount for the Indians pretty much negates that notion. It's already public that he wants Santana money, it is what it is.
  8. Who wouldn't want to solidify 3 corner spots longterm with a single trade? Green can definately handle 3B, LaPorta and Gamel either corner OF or 1B. It also solves their power outage, they instantly aquire 3 guys with power. I don't see the difference between that and the spare parts deals that people toss around here... for example... Gwynn, Hall, Nelson, and Gillespie for Greinke. The deal has to work for both sides..
  9. If people are dreaming of signing Sheets and Sabathia... keep dreaming. Sabathia will get a 6 or 7 year deal at over 20 mil per, Sheets will get a 5 or 6 year deal when the bidding is over for around 20 mil per. There are literally only a handful of teams in MLB that can afford those salaries for the tail end of a pitcher's career, and all of them with the exception of Boston need pitching (though you can never have too much pitching). There is no way the Brewers can afford to outbid the years for one players, let alone both and have half their current payroll tied up in 2 players. Yes Milwaukee supports the the team well, but that's what allows the Brewers to have an average payroll to begin with. There are limits to the amount of revenue this market can generate, and we have to be nearing that limit. With attendence closing in on 3 mil, how many untapped resources are left for revenue? I believe the TV contract is up for renewal in the near future and that should help, but seriously, where is the money going to come from?
  10. Well if they moved to Appleton there'd be a ton of video from me, obviously I'd be thrilled.
  11. We are the smallest market in the game, with a middle of the pack payroll. People keep posting that "we aren't a small market", when it's entirely untrue, as we're the smallest market, which any number will bear out... fewest households, smallest TV contract... Many of us have reached a place where we want to win now and get to the playoffs so bad that we're losing sight of the truth. Sabathia isn't even the biggest issue facing this team longterm... I know this whole thing is out of my control, and I'll be curious how this plays out through the winter. I stand by my opinion that giving up top prospects for a rental is not in the best long term interests of the team. This team has a realistic chance of making the playoffs without Sabathia, and that's the route I'd rather take. Somehow the articless that show the teams which sell the player end up better in the end get dismissed around here... I think history bears out that the wisest course of action is to unload Prince for top pitching prospects in the off season, than burn our prospects on the "chance" that something good might happen. I'd rather the team use it's assets to aquire longterm solutions, but I'm in the minority around here, so it's time to quit "raging against the machine".
  12. I'm not sure how I feel about Tyson in Helena, he already was successful there, he's not Mercedes, his K to BB ratio is still excellent, he just gives up way more hits than he should. At any rate he had a decent line tonight.
  13. So Bryson normally sits in the 92-94 range with his fastball?
  14. Apparently you didn't read the rest of my statement. many people probably haven't noticed by Pena's numbers in the closer role are fantastic, for whatever reason he doesn't pitch the same when he's "just getting work" If you're going to cherry pick, at least pull the whole statement. It's easy to look at his numbers on the whole and dismiss what he's done, it's not that cut and dried. Stan Kyles talked for some time about Pena in one of the Nashville pregame interviews recently. edit. Fixed weird italics and repeated sentence.
  15. My first choice would be to call up Pena and see what he can do, he's been lights out in Save situations in Nashville, he just hasn't pitched with the same "vigor" when they are just getting him innings. Stan Kyles (Nashville's pitching coach) addressed him in one of the Pre Game Audio interviews in the link reports last week or the week before. I'd hate to dump more prospects on a reliever when the rotation would still need to be addressed long term.
  16. Just say no to another rental reliever! I say no to Fuentes.. many people probably haven't noticed by Pena's numbers in the closer role are fantastic, for whatever reason he doesn't pitch the same when he's "just getting work". I think if he doesn't get moved I'd rather try him than dump prospects for 30 innings. I wonder if Mota would refuse assignment if DFA'd? If the Brewers wouldn't give up Gamel or LaPorta for Sabathia, why would they move them for reliever? That part makes no sense to me. If you move them for Fuentes, what's left to address the starting rotation for 09? Green is interesting as a centerpiece for Sabathia, but that totally blows away him being my 2B of the future. I wouldn't mind giving up Brantley or Salome either. An American league team probably makes the most sense for Angel given his defensive shortcomings... they can always DH him for his bat. edit. Fuentes would most likely be a type A? That would be 6 comp picks, and while that would be fantastic, that's also a ton of bonus money up front. Essentially most of the savings with Gagne's contract coming off the books would be eaten up bonuses for the draftees.
  17. A 30 runner is pretty slow... no way he plays CF. That's bogus anyway, he's been one of the hottest players in the minors all year, last time I check the hot sheet didn't have anything to do with defense, that's just personal bias.
  18. I understand, but I would think who a team would move would depend on the deal, as in off season trade or rental, and who the players were involved. I did pretty much the same thing you did when I started researching my moves for the 2009 OOTP I just rolled over to a couple of weeks ago. Started with BAs top 10 for every team, then looked at this year's performance. Then I went to MiLB.com and sorted league leaders by the stats I favor to see who was performing well. Many of the top prospects around the game are not the best performers, but some like Price are... it was very interesting.
  19. Did you just use BA's top 10 for this?
  20. Nashville does so many things so well, the whole stadium situation is a shame... If the Brewers leave I'll truly miss all of the perks that Sounds provide.
  21. I love Hardy but I'm unable to justify him playing 3B... he'd be well below average offensively.
  22. I think we all keep side tracking the CC thread some talking about all of the various topics on both sides of the arguement for and against. I presonally feel it's been a good discussion all the way around and I think we all agree that there is some sort of long term solution needed for the rotation. Looking at Sabathia's demands even if the Brewers land him there's no way they can afford to resign him for 6 to 7 years. I think the bidding for Sheets will eventually come down to years, and the Brewers aren't able to go 5 or 6 years for him either. In my opinion it's pretty cut and dried that they aren't going to be signing either of the best 2 free agent pitchers this off season. I personally still favor a move for a younger arm that we can control for some time. Who would you target? As I mentioned earlier in the Sabathia thread I'd rather move talent to the AL, because I selfishly don't want to root against any of my boys, and partly because I favor moving Prince to add 2 or 3 quality arms in one shot. I also don't want the Brewers to deal with the Yankees or BoSox, so here are the young arms I'd like to see the Brewers target. These guys would be a starting point, in some cases like for Shields the deal might have to be Prince straight up... but regardless these are the guys I'd like to see Brewers target, I've had more time to research and look around this evening, instead of just the guys I've had in mind all along. I've excluded some guys because I didn't think the Brewers matched up well with the other team for a trade. Some guys everyone will be familiar with, others not so much, I didn't feel right posting the scouting reports on these guys because it's all subscriber content, and there some guys here on my list getting fantastic results that aren't on anyone's top 10 lists such as BA. Toronto Shaun Marcum I also like Brett Cecil and any number of trades could work here. Baltimore David Hernandez and/or Bradley Bergesen I like Chris Tillman as well but he's not very economical with his pitches which is why I didn't include him initially. I wouldn't mind picking up 2 of these 3 AA pitchers in a deal. Baltimore needs SS, 3B, and OF help. Tampa Bay James Shields and I just am unable to control myself but I'd love David Price even though he's recovering from an injury. I'd be thrilled with either of those 2, TB could use 1B or DH help, depending how you look at it, and a decent RF. Oakland Vincent Mazzaro Kansas City Danile Cortes and/or Carlos Rosa Chicago (White Sox) Aaron Poreda Texas Eric Hurley and Neftali Feliz as a package. I can't believe I forgot about Feliz earlier... for some reason since I said "who?" when he was traded for Teixeira I've had a man crush on him, and Hurley has 3ish potential. Texas needs help at 3B and the OF. My favorite 2 pitchers are Shields and Price, and I'd honestly prefer Price, but Shields may be easier to get since he's their #3 in my opinion behind Kazmir and Garza, and Price is flying through the low minors. TB has so much pitching I'm truly envious, even my boy Balfour is pitching well for them, which pleases me greatly I might add. My next favorite deal would be Toronto for both Marcum and Cecil. Marcum is steady and Cecil has good potential and could earn a mid season bump next year. After that I'm pretty indifferent, the Texas deal wouldn't be earth shattering early, but Feliz has just sick stuff down the road. Getting both Cortes and Rosa from KC would be sweet (I'm not a huge Greinke guy), Cortes could be a top of the rotation guy and while Rosa has the stuff to be, he might end up a reliever. Obviously if you extend this to the NL there's many more possibilities, I'm curious who other people would like to see long term.
  23. I agree Prince for Sabathia is way way off, however I don't think it's all that far fetched that Prince is moved this off season. His trade value will never be higher going forward than this off season when he's just entering his first season of arby. If LaPorta/Gamel stay and you can plug either at 1B and Prince can net us a James Shields type pitcher (arguably the 3rd best pitcher on his team) or a couple of premium pitching prospects, I think the team is much better off as a whole. I know people are tired of being patient, but looking ahead I think 2010 can be a special season. I as I stated earlier I worry that Mark A. will push too hard to win and Melvin will be forced into some questionable moves.
  24. A small correction but Jeffress is not LH, nor does he bat LH.
  25. I would absolutely love that, but I'm not sure I see that happening.
