  6. Lake County defeats Timber Rattlers 4-1 By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/3/7/6/128879376/cuts/6_June_5_JoshUhen_p12a1f8z_nd1mbgw8.jpg Josh Uhen pitched 3-1/3 perfect innings of relief for the Timber Rattlers on Friday night against the Lake County Captains. (Wisconsin Timber Rattlers/Ann Mollica) GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers collected nine hits, but the Lake County Captains picked up a 4-1 victory at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. The win gave the Captains a win in the series as they took two-of-three from Wisconsin. Lake County (27-27) scored first with a run in the top of the second inning. Bobby Bradley tripled off the wall in left field to start the inning. He scored on a wild pitch by Wisconsin starting pitcher Joshua Torres for a 1-0 lead. Grant Fink made it 3-0 in favor of the Captains with a two-run home run in the third. Francisco Mejia started the inning with a double. Fink followed with his second home run of the season. The Captains took a 4-0 lead in the fifth. Torres walked Mejia to start the inning and got the next two outs. But, Yu-Cheng Chang would drive in Mejia with a double. Wisconsin (16-39) got on the board with one out in the fifth inning. Alan Sharkey doubled and scored on a single by Tucker Neuhaus. Monte Harrison was next and set a deep drive to right, but David Armendariz made a lunging catch on the track for the second out of the inning. Neuhaus was around second and halfway to third as Armendariz fired the ball back to the infield for an easy double play to end the inning. The Timber Rattlers out hit the Captains 9-5, but Lake County's defense turned a total of four double plays in the game to hold the Rattlers to one run. Plus, four of Lake County's hits went for extra-bases. Dustin DeMuth had two more hits for the Rattlers on Friday night. He went 7-for-10 in the series with the Captains. Sharkey and Francisco Castillo also had two hits in the game for the Timber Rattlers. Wisconsin's bullpen was stellar in the game. Josh Uhen entered the game in relief of Torres in the fifth inning and would retire all ten batters he faced, including two via strikeout. Tyler Linehan pitched a 1-2-3 top of the ninth inning in relief of Uhen. The loss knocked the Rattlers to a season-low 23 games under .500. They are also just 8-24 at home, with just three home games left in the first half. The Timber Rattlers welcome the Fort Wayne TinCaps to town on Saturday night. Devin Williams (0-3, 5.17) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Thomas Dorminy (5-3, 4.27) is scheduled to start for the TinCaps. Game time is 6:35pm. Characters from the science fiction classic come home for Star Wars Night at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium on Saturday night. There will be a chance to meet and take pictures with them. The Timber Rattlers players and coaches will be wearing Star Wars-themed jerseys during the game. Proceeds from the silent auction for the jerseys will go to Make-A-Wish ® of Wisconsin. Stick around after the game for a great FOX 11 Fireworks display. 7. Captains sink Rattlers 12-4 Bautista has four hits, including homer, for Lake County By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/8/3/2/128696832/cuts/6_June_DustinDemuth_gndgl3ez_xhy9wxc7.jpg Dustin DeMuth had three hits and drove in a run for the Timber Rattlers on Thursday night against Lake County. (Wisconsin Timber Rattlers/Ann Mollica) GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Lake County Captains defeated the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 12-4 on Thursday night at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Claudio Bautista was a triple shy of the cycle as he collected four hits to lead Lake County's 16-hit attack. Wisconsin starting pitcher Luis Ortega got the first two outs of the first inning, but allowed a double to Bautista and a walk to Bobby Bradley. Dorssys Paulino sent a grounder to right for a single and Bautista crossed home plate just before Bradley was tagged out trying to get back into second base. The Captains (26-27) added to their lead in the top of the second inning. David Armendariz doubled with one out and Francisco Mejia followed with a home run to the Wisconsin bullpen for a 3-0 lead. Lake County's defense gave the Rattlers (16-38) a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the second inning. Carlos Leal, who was named to the Western Division's All-Star Team earlier in the day, started the inning with a single. Elvis Rubio was next and his slow roller to third turned into a run when the throw to first was wild and Leal raced around the bases with Rubio ending up on second. Dustin DeMuth bunted for a hit and put runners on the corners with no outs. Monte Harrison grounded into a 6-4-3 double play to score Rubio and the Rattlers were within a run. The game remained 3-2 until the top of the fifth inning. Bautista was at the plate with runners at the corners and no outs. Ortega got Bautista to ground into a 6-4-3 double play to score the runner from third to make it 4-2. Paulino singled to start the sixth inning. Taylor Murphy followed with a double to drive in Paulino. Ortega got the first out of the inning on a sacrifice bunt and was replaced by Gian Rizzo, who gave up a sacrifice fly to Mejia and the Captains were up 6-2. The Rattlers responded in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Captains committed three errors in the frame. Sthervin Matos walked to start the inning and Leal singled to left-center. The throw to third was wild and that allowed Leal to break for second. The throw to get Leal was also wild and the second error on the play allowed Matos to score. Rubio was next and his popup on a bunt was jarred loose from Mejia's glove by starting pitcher Anderson Polanco. That play put runners at the corners. DeMuth, who had three hits in the game, reached on a fielder's choice that scored Leal to make it 6-4. Wisconsin loaded the bases with two outs in the inning, but could not cash in another run. Bautista, who was named to the Eastern Division All-Star team today, hit a two-out solo home run off Milton Gomez in the top of the seventh inning to give the Captains a 7-4 lead. Lake County tacked on five runs in the ninth inning as they sent ten men to the plate, collected five hits, and took advantage of two Wisconsin errors in the frame. Both teams have won a game in the three-game series. Game three of the series is Friday night at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Joshua Torres (0-3, 4.60) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Lake County has named Justus Sheffield (4-1, 4.34) as their starting pitcher. Game time is 7:05pm. The first 1,000 fans through the gates for this game will receive a Timber Rattlers baseball cap from North Shore Bank. It's also Faith Night presented by 91.9, The Family with a special postgame concert from Danen Kane. Children 14 and under may participate in Kids Run the Bases thanks to Molina Healthcare after the postgame Fireworks display on this North Shore Bank/Y100 Family Night. If you can't make it out to the ballpark on Friday, there are several ways to catch the action. MyNEW 32's Sports Showdown will televise the game starting at 7:00pm. The radio broadcast is on AM1280, WNAM starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 6:45. The broadcast may also be heard on Tune In Radio and IHeartRadio. Subscribers to MiLB.TV can see the game that way. HOME RUNS: LC: Francisco Mejia (5th, 1 on in 2nd inning off Luis Ortega, 1 out) Claudio Bautista (6th, 0 on in 7th inning off Milton Gomez, 2 out) WP: Anderson Polanco (3-5) LP: Luis Ortega (1-5) TIME: 2:55 ATTN: 4,872 Postgame Post – June 4, 2015 Well if Wisconsinites know 1 thing, it's tacky... and we do it with gusto, the cow uniforms are right there with cheese heads... No pre-game interviews, lots of post game interviews including the 2 All-Stars, check out the defensive awesomeness from the T-Rats in this one via the highlights. Wisconsin Boxscore Well this one was fun for a while as the T-Rats just kept battling back, but the pitchers consistently left the ball up all night and things got ugly towards the end. The defense in this game was fantastic, maybe the best game in the field the Rattlers played all season. Matos had a trio of plays that were exceptional and Rubio made a fantastic diving grab as well, check out the highlights to see them if you weren't able to watch the game. The Rattlers even won an appeal at 3rd, the TV replay clearly showed the runner missing the bag which saved them a run, but stealing a run back there and then stealing another with the heads-up baserunning Chris described above in the 6th inning wasn't enough. I didn't agree with the official scoring, neither throw was that bad and neither fielder had the ball pop that far way, it was just very good base running all the way around. Wisconsin Recap
  8. Wisconsin wins 3-2 over Lake County Burkhalter strikes out seven, picks up first pro win By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/4/0/0/128487400/cuts/6_May3Burkhalter_pxswc5b9_c2viluln.jpg David Burkhalter struck out seven over four scoreless innings and earned his first professional win for the Timber Rattlers on Wednesday night. GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers broke a 2-2 tie with an eighth inning run and it was enough for a 3-2 over the Lake County Captains on Wednesday night at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. David Burkhalter earned his first professional victory with four shutout innings and seven strikeouts. Kodi Medeiros made the start for the Timber Rattlers (16-37) and retired the first six batters he faced in the game. The Captains (25-27) would get to Medeiros in the third inning. Francisco Mejia started the third inning with a walk and David Armendariz followed with a single. Ordomar Valdez bunted the runners over to second and third. Greg Allen cashed in one run with a grounder. Claudio Bautista made it 2-0 with a two-out single to drive in Armendariz. Wisconsin rallied with two unearned runs in the bottom of the third. Alan Sharkey reached on an error and was balked to second base, but he was still at second with two outs. Francisco Castillo drove in the first Rattlers run with a single. Sthervin Matos tied the game with an double. Burkhalter took the mound in the top of the sixth inning and allowed a one out double to Bautista. Burkhalter would strike out the next two batters to end the sixth. He would strike out the side in order in the top of the seventh. The winning rally for the Timber Rattlers came in the bottom of the eighth. Brandon Diaz reached on a single and a passed ball allowed him to take second base. Castillo bunted for a hit to put runners at the corners. Matos sent a chopper over the mound. Bautista charged from his second base position and fired home, but Diaz beat the throw to score the go-ahead run. Diaz made a diving catch on a sinking line drive off the bat of Yu-Cheng Chang to start the top of the ninth. Burkhalter struck out the next two batters to close out the win. The seven strikeouts by Burkhalter set a new single-game high for him as a professional. The win snapped Wisconsin's three-game losing streak and extended Lake County's losing streak to four games. Game two of the series is Thursday night. Luis Ortega (1-4, 4.08) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Anderson Polanco (2-5, 3.78) is set to start for the Captains. Game time is 7:05pm. The tradition continues on Thursday night as the Timber Rattlers host their annual Salute to Cows Night with plenty to honor the industry that makes Wisconsin America's Dairyland! Players and coaches will wear the specially-designed jerseys with a cow pattern. The jerseys will be available in a silent auction during the game with proceeds going to Freedom Food Pantry. Lamers Dairy will hand out samples of their products to fans after the game. Additionally, the first 1,000 fans to enter the game will receive a bobblehead featuring former Timber Rattler Clint Coulter wearing the cow-patterned jersey. The bobblehead and Salute to Cows are courtesy of Milk Source. A 95.9 KISS-FM Thirsty Thursday means 16oz soda, beer, and Arty's Old Fashioned drinks are available for just $2. WP: David Burkhalter (1-3) LP: David Speer (2-3) TIME: 2:23 ATTN: 4,796 Postgame June 3, 2015 Wisconsin Boxscore Well I'm slightly disappointed in that I was so wiped out Alan Sharkey bookend-ed my nap, I fell asleep after he reached on an error in the 3rd and woke up to him making an fantastic scoop on short hop from Jake Gatewood to end the 8th. Kodi Mederios topped out at 90 according to the TV crew while I was awake. He was working backwards dropping in a first pitch change or curve into the same spot to each hitter to get ahead, the camera angle always make it hard to read breaking stuff from lefties. It was roughly down the middle, thigh to belt high, but in the strike zone every time he threw it, which was much different than he had pitched in the past, primarily off his slider. His command of his FB and slider weren't as good, sort of still all over the place, but he was very effective once again. Despite the pretty average velocity, no one was getting around him, his pitches mostly end up inside to RH batters and they were inside-outing everything the other way. David Burkhalter.... wow. I know I've been beating this drum a little bit, but for those that haven't been as fortunate I wish I could adequately describe the difference in his total game from April to June, he's just significantly better in every single aspect. 2 awesome defensive plays and Carlos Leal blocking pitches would be wild pitches definitely helped him out tonight, but he's developing a pretty decent curve, hopefully his velocity can start slowly bumping up as he progresses. This tandem has been outstanding over their last 4 appearances, just great to see from the youngsters. Dustin DeMuth and Francisco Castillo both had 2 hits a piece. Wisconsin Recap
  9. How come I have a feeling K-Rod gives up a 2 run HR and I'll want to throw my remote through the TV?
  10. Beloit drops Rattlers 8-1 Gilbert hits three doubles and drives in five for Snappers By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/2/2/8/127939228/cuts/6_1_McCall_WEB_n2vb6x1g_u43mcwav.jpg Greg McCall doubled and scored a run for the Timber Rattlers against Beloit on Monday afternoon. (Wisconsin Timber Rattlers/Ann Mollica) GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Beloit Snappers beat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 8-1 Monday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. The win was Beloit's third in a row over the Rattlers. Trent Gilbert hit three doubles and drove in five runs for Beloit. Wisconsin (15-37) had a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Greg McCall doubled to start the inning. Alan Sharkey drove in McCall with a two-out single. Cy Sneed worked through the early innings without giving up a run, but ran into trouble in the fifth. Jose Chavez reached on a single with two outs. James Harris was next and he singled to right to send Chavez around to third base. Then, things took a turn with a 1-2 count on Gilbert. Sneed stepped off the rubber to bluff a throw to first, whirled, and threw the ball to third in an attempt to pick off Chavez. The throw to third was late, but base umpire Chris Marco called a balk on Sneed to allow Chavez to score the tying run. Wisconsin manager Matt Erickson came out to plead the case, but was ejected from the game. Beloit (22-30) took the lead moments later when Gilbert lined a double to left-center and Harris scored. The Snappers added to their lead in the seventh inning. Gilbert was at the plate with runners at first and second against reliever Tyler Linehan. He hit his second double of the game to knock in both runners. An error on the next play let Gilbert score for a 5-1 lead. In the eighth, Gilbert came to the plate with runners at the corners and two outs against reliever Luke Curtis. Gilbert doubled off the wall in right field to drive in two more. Yairo Munoz finished the scoring with an RBI single for an 8-1 lead. Wisconsin's offense had four hits in the first three innings, but was quiet after a two-out single by Francisco Castillo in the bottom of the third. The Rattlers managed three base runners - none against starting pitcher Brett Graves - after that Castillo single. Brandon Diaz drew a walk in the sixth, Tucker Neuhaus walked in the seventh, and Monte Harrison reached on an error in the eighth. The Timber Rattlers are off on Tuesday before returning to action on Wednesday at home against the Lake County Captains. Kodi Medeiros (2-2, 4.27) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Sean Brady (3-3, 3.70) has been named starting pitcher for the Captains, the Midwest League affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. Game time is 7:05pm. Wednesday is a WIXX Bang for Your Buck Night at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium with soda, beer, and hotdogs available for $1. The Rattlers and The National Needle Arts Association also present Stitch 'N Pitch Night on Wednesday. Fans are invited to come to the game and knit, crochet, embroider, cross-stitch and needlepoint. Sit among friends, family and colleagues and cheer on the Rattlers. Beginners, intermediate, and experts are all welcome. If you can't make it out to the ballpark, there are several ways to catch the action. MyNEW32's Sports Showdown will televise the game starting at 7:00pm. The radio broadcast is available on AM1280, WNAM starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 6:45pm. The broadcast may also be heard on Tune In Radio and IHeartRadio. Subscribers to MiLB.TV can see the game that way. WP: Brett Graves (5-0) LP: Cy Sneed (2-7) TIME: 3:02 ATTN: 3,224 Postgame Post – June 1, 2015 The usual. Wisconsin Boxscore Poor Cy Sneed... he's currently the 10th ranked pitcher in the league from an ERA standpoint and can't buy a win. Speaking of which, look at how ridiculously good the top pitchers are in the league so far this year. 7 pitchers have a WHIP below 1, 5 have an ERA less than 2, wow. Apparently Erickson changed his mind because David Burkhalter was supposed to start tomorrow but Kodi Medeiros is going to start for the tandem yet again. I'll be in Stevens Point the next 2 days so instead getting down there to put the gun on both guys it will have to wait, I'm still sort of upset I didn't get down for Williams' start yesterday. The Medeiros/Burkhalter tandem and Sneed's starts had been the only recent consistent performers coming into today's action. Obviously it wasn't all Sneed today, the bullpen had a tough day, but this team needs something it can start to rely on and I just don't see it happening on the offensive side. Wisconsin Recap
  11. Doesn't change my previous post. Speed readings in this situation are not as reliable as to say, for example, that an MLB player is sitting in the upper 80s. Not to mention the fact that it ignores all the other variables that go into how hard a pitcher who is working on things is throwing. The implication that it is a demerit for Medeiros is totally unfounded. Have you watched him pitch even once? Either way I'd be curious to know what you're basing your opinion on. I don't come by my opinions lightly, I put my time in watching, listening, and reading. That's why I don't have much to say about guy having success who skipped WI like Hobbs Johnson but will share my unfiltered observations regarding just about any other Brewer prospect. The T-Rats have had 16 or 17 games televised so far this season and I've only missed 2, I've missed another 3-4 radio broadcasts because of work or family, mine are not uneducated or anecdotal observations. Medeiros has a nice K/9 and ground ball rate, but he leaves most everything up in the zone which is why his ERA has been over 5 for most of the season, the 7 shutout innings against Cedar Rapids last time drastically lowered every metric in his line. This is about timing, if you looked at it a week ago his BB rate is up over 4 and his ERA was in the low 5s. His BB rate has been dropping because he's been better in that regard in 3 of his last 4 starts, but he's also backed off the velocity, there's been no 93s. His last outing was fantastic, as is pretty much any outing where he limits his walks because his stuff is so hard to hit. Normally teams do better against him the second time they see him, for whatever reason they aren't as apt to chase his stuff of the zone. Here is his game log, it gives you a much better picture of what's been happening than looking at his overall line. Kodi has been holding own, but he hasn't be outstanding, though he's had 2 outstanding starts this season. My concern is never so much about what a pitcher is doing in A ball, it's how what he's doing will play as he moves up. Kodi is unique in many ways so he's incredibly difficult to project because he's way outside the box, he's not comparable to any other pitcher I've seen come through the MWL since the T-Rats have been affiliated with the Brewers. The MWL sort by age, view the original table to sort it however you like. David Burkhalter who is Kodi's tandem mate has made the most improvement of any pitcher on the staff so far this season. He's also working in the upper 80s but we just gotta hope both pitcher can eventually work in that 91-94 range on a consistent basis. edit. Added more thoughts.
  12. I'd be alright with Whitley and I'd be luke warm on English given his shoulder issue. Shoulder issues scare me.
  13. I highly doubt Neuhaus sees time at SS, he wasn't good as a 3B in his limited time there. He could maybe play passable SS in Rookie ball but he's not a professional SS. Defensively 2B seems to suite him, maybe because he has more time on that side of the field. 14. Rattlers fall late to Beloit Snappers top Wisconsin 4-1 By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/2/0/8/127793208/cuts/May31_Devin_Williams_WEB_fmsluiom_s3c0ulcr.jpg Devin Williams pitched five shutout innings and struck out seven for the Rattlers on Sunday afternoon. (Wisconsin Timber Rattlers/Ann Mollica) GRAND CHUTE, WI - Devin Williams tossed five shutout innings for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Sunday afternoon and left with a 1-0 lead. But, the Beloit Snappers rallied for four runs in the final three innings to defeat Wisconsin 4-1 at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Wisconsin (15-36) took the lead in the bottom of the third inning. Sthervin Matos drew a walk and stole second. Tucker Neuhaus doubled on a fly ball to the corner in left. Matos went back to second to tag in case the ball was caught and could only reach third base when the ball dropped. Elvis Rubio sent a grounder to short that allowed Matos to score for a 1-0 lead. Williams walked the leadoff batter to start the game, but retired the next six batters he faced. The Brewers pitching prospect walked the leadoff batter in the third, but got a double play and a strikeout to end the inning. He gave up a one out single in the fourth inning, but retired the final five batters he faced. Williams struck out seven to match his single-game high as a professional and left the game with a 1-0 lead after five innings. Beloit (21-30) tied the game in the top of the seventh inning. Max Kuhn, who hit a three-run home run in the eighth inning of Saturday's game, was up with two outs and none on against reliever Angel Ventura and hit a high fly to left that carried over the wall to tie the game 1-1. Ventura struck out James Harris with one out in the top of the eighth inning, but the ball skipped to the backstop to allow Harris to reach. Ventura walked the next hitter before getting the second out. But, Sandber Pimetel grounded a single to center to send Harris home with the go-ahead run. The Snappers got insurance in the top of the ninth. Reliever Gian Rizzo hit the first batter of the frame. Then, Robert Martinez cracked a two-run home run and the Snappers were up 4-1. The Timber Rattlers had opportunities early as Beloit starting pitcher Daniel Gossett walked six in the first three innings, but they could only cash in the walk to Matos. Wisconsin's offense went quiet after a one out single by Jake Gatewood in the bottom of the sixth inning. Three Beloit relievers combined to retire the final eleven Wisconsin batters in the game. The final game of the series is Monday afternoon. Cy Sneed (2-6, 2.4) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Beloit has named Brett Graves (4-0, 4.94) as their scheduled starter. Game time is 12:05pm. Purchase a lunch entrée at any Qdoba location in Appleton, Neenah, or Oshkosh on Monday and receive a ticket to any Monday home game during the 2015 season. Since this is a weekday afternoon game, show your business card when you purchase a ticket and for $13.50 you will receive a box seat ticket, a beverage and your choice of brat or hot dog for a bonus Business Person Special. Wisconsin Boxscore Well at least Devin Williams was fantastic, I toyed with the idea of heading down and putting the gun on him today but decided against it at the last minute and then didn't get to listen to the game either. Now I regret both! Tucker Neuhaus has been steady yet unspectacular all year... sound at the plate but has work to do in the field where he's now playing 2B almost exclusively. I've been trying to focus on the positives with this club, as in not continually harping on the SOs or individual batting lines, but this was Jake Gatewood's first multi-hit game since he recorded 5 hits over 2 days way back on 4/15 and 4/16. 15. I have not been to MT since I was 8 years old MTBrew, and I should have qualified my statement regarding Helena better. There are no modern player development amenities which I consider essential to athletic development, I didn't mean to insult Kendrick Field, the community, nor the fan base, I was merely trying to relay the facts succinctly and did a regrettable job of such. I've become quite fond of all things Helena Brewer related over the years without the benefit having been there in person. Helena has always been one of the best franchises; its media coverage, the incredibly informative interviews with Steve Wendt back in the day, the late night audio... just way above and beyond what we were getting out of half of our full season franchises for much of that time. We couldn't have asked for more.
  16. Hunter Morris was never ever able to recapture that hometown magic... too bad really.
  17. Jose Pena is hitting better at BC than he did at WI... I find that statistically odd yet intriguing.
  18. Kuhn cracks Rattlers with late homer Snappers get 3-run HR in 8th inning to top Wisconsin By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/8/6/8/127659868/cuts/5_May30_BrandonDiaz_WEB_1md5mwle_ktcp8wju.jpg Brandon Diaz tripled and scored two runs for the Timber Rattlers on Saturday against the Beloit Snappers. (Wisconsin Timber Rattlers/Ann Mollica) GRAND CHUTE, WI - Max Kuhn hit a three-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to give the Beloit Snappers a 6-4 victory over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in Saturday's Midwest League game at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. For the second game in a row, Beloit (20-30) took an early 3-0 lead. The Snappers had runners at the corners with two outs in the top of the second inning when Argenis Raga's grounder to short was misplayed for an error to allow a run to score and the inning to continue. Joe Bennie followed with a double to left that drove in two runs for the 3-0 lead. For the second game in a row, Wisconsin (15-35) chipped away at that lead and eventually took the lead. Brandon Diaz singled with one out in the third and took second on a wild pitch. Francisco Castillo followed with a single to drive in Diaz. In the fourth, Sthervin Matos singled to start the frame. Tucker Neuhaus ripped a double to right and Matos scored to cut the deficit to a run. The Timber Rattlers tied the game in the sixth inning. Matos drew a leadoff walk to chase Beloit starting pitcher Junior Mendez from the game. Left-handed reliever Cody Stull took over and got the next two outs and Matos was still at first base. Then, Alan Sharkey lined a 1-0 pitch off the glove of first baseman Sandber Pimentel. The ball trickled into foul territory down the right field line as Matos streaked around the bases and ran through a stop sign by manager and third base coach Matt Erickson. Matos just beat Pimentel's relay throw to the plate to tie the game. Diaz tripled to start the seventh inning and scored on Dustin DeMuth's RBI grounder to give the Rattlers a 4-3 lead. Joshua Torres, the third Wisconsin pitcher of the game, had set the Snappers down in order in the top of the seventh, but ran into trouble in the eighth. He issued a leadoff walk, but Yario Munoz was able to beat the throw to first on a potential double play ball. Pimentel singled to left after Munoz had stolen second base to give the Snappers runners at the corners with one out. Torres got ahead of Kuhn with two quick strikes, but left the 0-2 pitch over the plate and Kuhn hit a long home run to left field. Kuhn's first home run of the season gave the Snappers a 6-4 lead. The Rattlers would put two on base in the bottom of the ninth inning against Rob Huber, but Huber got the final out to preserve the Beloit victory. Wisconsin had rallied from a 3-0 deficit to beat Beloit in the conclusion of Friday's suspended game that was concluded on Saturday. The loss denied the Rattlers a third straight victory, which would have been Wisconsin's first three-game winning streak since April 24-26. The Rattlers have had three two-game winning streaks since May 18, but have missed out on that third win in a row each time, Game three of the series is Sunday afternoon. Devin Williams (0-3, 7.59) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Daniel Gossett (2-5, 6.15) is set to start for the Snappers. Game time is 1:05pm. The first 1,000 fans to attend this Sunday game will receive a poster of Timber Rattlers pitcher Cy Sneed. This is poster #3 in a series of ten that are being given away this season by the Rattlers and Dunkin Donuts. The National Alliance on Mental Illness will be on hand Sunday afternoon for Strike Out Stigma day as part of Mental Health Awareness Month. Fans may play catch on-field courtesy of Rasmussen College starting at noon. As part of 107.5, The Fan's Brewers Sunday, Timber Rattlers players will wear their special Brewers Sunday jerseys for this game. Players will be available for a postgame autograph session sponsored by Tundraland Home Improvements, too. Catch all the action on AM1280, WNAM starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 12:45pm. The broadcast may also be heard on Tune In Radio and IHeartRadio. Subscribers to MiLB.TV can see the game that way. HOME RUN: BEL: Max Kuhn (1st, 2 on in 8th inning off Joshua Torres, 1 out) WP: Cody Stull (2-1) LP: Joshua Torres (0-3) SAVE: Rob Huber (4) TIME: 3:03 ATTN: 4,559 Postgames Post – May 30, 2015 Both sets of game highlights, a very long 15 minute interview with Matt Erickson between games is definitely worth your time, and the usual assortment of post game interviews. Wisconsin Boxscore Orlando Torrez was topping out at 93 today which is nice, he's still all over the place control wise though. Like many of the Latin kids on this WI team he has a ton of moving parts in his delivery so improvement from him will be incremental, or at least I hope he will improve over time. Jake Gatewood had a rough 2nd inning, the Rattlers should have been out of that inning without a run allowed on consecutive plays. The first was a grounder off the mound which Gatewood struggled with and while they got the middle runner at 2nd the relay to 1st was half a step late for the inning ending double play. Then the very next play was to Jake's back hand and it ate him up allowing the run to score. Then Torrez while visibly frustrated went off the air a little bit and gave up the 2B which opened that 3 run margin, the youngsters essentially gave this one away early with those 3 runs giving back outs and losing composure. Monte Harrison was in RF which surprised me, they didn't give a reason on the TV broadcast. Wisconsin Recap
  19. Here's the thing, the Brewers were completely reactionary as usual, waiting to do something until the bitter end when they had to make a move and it was too little too late. I've long advocated buying part of the ownership in their minor league franchises (if not buying them outright) and putting down roots. In the case of the Sounds instead of doing it in the mid 2000s as the location is basically geographically perfect, partnering up and working together towards a new stadium, the Brewers gave them bad teams and stood on the sidelines waiting for something happen. Sure people from the organization would bag on the stadium to the Nashville media, but I'm not sure that was productive and/or had the desired effect. I would like to see the Brewers buy into the T-Rats, there's no better place for them in A ball. In A+ I'm fairly indifferent, I find the FSL irritating with all of the rain outs, I'd rather a team in the Carolina League as the California League doesn't interest me at all. At AA Biloxi could be interesting, depending on how things go this year I would probably be on board with buying into the franchise. I hope the Brewers only spend 2 years in Colorado Springs, I'd actually like to get back to the IL but we'll have to see. Helena is the only other venue and while the stadium there sucks, I'm not sure that matters for 3 months of Rookie ball, and I honestly like the folks who cover the team there. I'm not in favor of a move but I don't really see anything being done stadium wise either.
  20. I think you take the best player available and if Buster Posey is sitting there then you better draft him. If he's one of the best hitters in the draft and far and away the best talent on your board make the pick. If he's a C great, if he turns out not to be but can still hit, just as good.
  21. Nothing which you wrote about Medieros' season is true other than the strike outs and ground outs, nor is he working the mid 90s. He's working in the upper 80s, I've been relaying all of this information in the Link Reports. Jamey Wright shouldn't be anyone's measure of a top of the rotation pitcher and Derek Lowe is a completely different pitcher than Medeiros. I often post rebukes on what I view as "reverse justifications" and by that I mean the conclusion seems to have been decided prior and then the argument is framed to support that conclusion, which is the opposite of what should happen. It's most often used in the "what was X(DM, MA, Seid, the organization as whole) supposed to do" arguments and when using the extremes (both positive and negative) as proof of a likely outcome. I don't believe there is a person on this board who wants any draft pick to fail, that would be absurd considering we're all Brewer fans and we need the organization to be adept at identifying and developing talent. The Brewers lack the resources to be successful operating by any other means. However we also need to be realistic and see the entire truth, take the wider view, not just a biased narrow view based on our personal feelings, we need to be able to honest about what a player is or isn't. I didn't have the time to devote to the draft when Arnett was in the fold that I do now, nor was I as educated, for the sake argument if I had been I would have fought the Arnett pick in the same manner as Jungmann. I do not like flash in the pan players either (too many unknowns for me) and I cringe the when the Brewer's use the pre-draft workout as proof of anything, it's one snap shot in time and not representative of the wider truth. Looking at the 2009 draft class and going through scouting reports and rankings again tonight since I have time, and also considering where the Brewers were drafting at #26 I would have probably argued for a players like Tyler Skaggs, David Holmberg, Chris Owings, or Everett Williams for those 1st round picks. There just weren't many players fitting my control or contact criteria in that range. I wouldn't have even advocated drafting Mike Trout given his scouting report so by no means am I claiming to have the draft solved:
  22. Completion of the suspended game... Rattlers rally to beat Snappers Wisconsin scores two in 7th for 5-3 win By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/6/8/8/127606688/cuts/5_30_Leal_WEB_u6vaf3th_qod7kh2m.jpg Carlos Leal had three hits and the go-ahead RBI in Wisconsin's 5-3 win over the Beloit Snappers. (Wisconsin Timber Rattlers/Ann Mollica) GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers rallied from an early 3-0 deficit to defeat the Beloit Snappers 5-3 on Saturday at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Carlos Leal had three hits and drove in the go-ahead run for the Rattlers. The game was the conclusion of a game that was suspended on Friday night. Before rain halted play on Friday night, the game was tied 3-3 in the top of the sixth inning with two outs. Beloit (19-30) scored three runs in the first inning against Wisconsin starter Milton Gomez, two coming in on a two-out, two-run double by Joe Brizuela. The Rattlers (15-34) tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the second and another in the bottom of the fourth. Gregory Munoz drove in a run in the second and the tying run in the fourth. Luis Ortega took over for Milton Gomez on the mound for the Rattlers when the game restarted and walked Brizuela and Max Kuhn before getting the final out of the sixth. Heath Fillmyer relieved for Beloit to start the bottom of the sixth inning and gave up a one-out single to Tucker Neuhaus, but retired the next two batters to send the game to the seventh inning still tied. Wisconsin took the lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. Brandon Diaz started the rally with a one out walk. Francisco Castillo followed with a single to put runners on first and second. Leal was next and he grounded a single into right to score Diaz and send Castillo around to third base. Sthervin Matos knocked in Castillo with a sacrifice fly to pad Wisconsin's lead. Ortega got the first out of the top of the ninth inning, but left the game after walking Kuhn. Luke Curtis took over and got the second out with a strikeout, but walked pinch hitter Shawn Duinkirk to put the tying runs on base. Curtis closed out the game by striking out James Harris. Ortega pitched 2-2/3 scoreless innings and earned his first win of the season. Curtis picked up his first save of the season. WP: Luis Ortega (1-4) LP: Heath Fillmyer (0-5) SAVE: Luke Curtis (1) TIME: 2:54 (:36 delay) ATTN: 3,358 Wisconsin Boxscore Wisconsin had been 2-26 coming into this game when the opponent scored first (thanks Chris), and I believe this is the biggest deficit the Rattlers have overcome all year. The pitching wasn't great after the break but it was good enough to throw up zeros and secure the victory. Carlos Leal keeps his surprising season moving forward, if he qualified he would be tied for the 7th best batting average... Wisconsin Recap

  24. Yea I understand all that, and that's why my list of pitchers is pretty narrow every year. Not that the MLB scouting grades are bible or anything but I meant future control, not present. In the mid teens I'm looking for college guys whom are ascending like Newcomb last year and Jay this year, I also watch a ton of video and I'm looking for specific things in a pitcher's delivery which is why I automatically disqualify pitchers with a low arm angles. There are going to be exceptions, stud MLB pitchers with a low arm angle, but that's the hardest angle to hit spots with and it's difficult to tell how good of an athlete the pitchers are just watching video so I'd rather just stay away. Of the 4 guys I liked last year Aiken is down with TJ, Kyle Freeland was awesome in his 2014 debut but has a shoulder problem now, Grant Holmes is pitching well in A ball though his walk rate is high in the early going, and Sean Newcomb is up in A+ pitching well. The medical stuff... I've beat that drum before and without access to that kind of information it's always going to be crap shoot for us fans picking guys we like, even for the teams. My process is usually to read through a ton of scouting information, narrow my list guys, then go watch video and refine that list even further. I usually separate it out.... the top 25 4yr and HS pitchers from all of the various lists, find whom I like, watch video, then hope the Brewers pick one of my guys which has never happened.
  25. If you want a college arm sure, those guys are gone early, which is why I'm usually on the HS bandwagon or was looking at a college closer like Jay.
