  1. Halton Powers Sounds To Fourth Straight Win Nashville Regains Share Of First Place With 9-4 Victory Over Memphis Nashville Sounds http://www.milb.com/assets/images/2/5/6/82448256/cuts/HaltonRed_630_jv057fgi_oo4n5mql.jpg (Mike Strasinger / Nashville Sounds) NASHVILLE, Tenn. - First baseman Sean Halton homered and drove in three runs to lead the Nashville Sounds to a 9-4 victory over the cross-state rival Memphis Redbirds on Monday evening at Greer Stadium in the opener of a four-game series. Nashville (44-41) won its fourth straight game to pull into a first place tie in the PCL American Conference Southern Division. Halton's two-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning erased a 3-2 deficit and provided the Sounds with their tenth come-from-behind victory of the year. The slugger went 2-for-4 on the night and is hitting .440 (11-for-25) over his past seven games. Memphis took a 2-0 lead against Sounds starter Mike Fiers in the top of the second inning when Tommy Pham belted a two-out, two-run homer to left-center, the outfielder's sixth roundtripper of the year. Halton halved the Redbirds' lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the second when he slugged a solo homer to left-center off Boone Whiting. The blast was Halton's fourth of the year and first in his last 126 at-bats. The Redbirds stretched the lead to 3-1 with an unearned run in the fourth, stemming from a fielding error by Sounds shortstop Hector Gomez. Fiers took a no-decision in his first start for the Sounds since June 1. He allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits in four innings of work, tossing 81 pitches. Nashville rallied to grab a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Sounds loaded the bases to open the frame by drawing three straight walks from Whiting. After Joey Donofrio took over on the Memphis hill, the right-hander committed a balk to force in Logan Schafer to make it a 3-2 contest, then Halton delivered again for Nashville, roping a two-run double down the left field line to put the home team in front. Right-hander Johnnie Lowe (1-3) was the beneficiary of the Nashville rally and picked up his first win of the year after tossing 2 2/3 scoreless frames of relief, fanning a season-high four. Whiting (0-6) drew the loss for Memphis after being tagged for four runs in his five innings of action. The Sounds put the game out of reach by plating five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning against Redbirds reliever Seth Blair. Pete Orr, who is hitting .323 (20-for-62) over his last 21 contests, delivered the big knock for Nashville, drilling a two-out, two-run double to center to cap the five-run outburst. Four of the five runs were unearned following a pair of errors charged to Memphis shortstop Pete Kozma in the frame. Memphis plated the night's final run in unearned fashion against Arcenio Leon in the top of the ninth when Orr booted a two-out Randal Grichuk grounder at second base, allowing Luis Mateo to score from second. The teams continue the series with another 7:05 p.m. matchup. Right-hander Ariel Pena (4-6, 4.72) will toe the slab for the Sounds to face rehabbing Memphis right-hander Joe Kelly (0-0, 9.00). Nashville Boxscore Beat the Cards! Not the dominance we've become accustomed to from Mike Fiers but I'll take a win. Jeremy Jeffress was fully warmed up and ready to go until Memphis gifted the 5 runs in the 8th. I may have just sent him out there anyway since he was already warm, but then again I could care less about saves. Nashville Recap Nashville Gameday

  4. Bees edge Wisconsin Burlington hangs on for 4-3 win By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/7/4/8/82393748/cuts/June30_128_WEB_sgkedk5i_1svqyxz2.jpg Rafael Neda is greeted by his teammates after his second inning home run put Wisconsin up 2-0 on Monday afternoon. GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Burlington Bees scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 4-2 lead over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. The Bees held on for a 4-3 victory over Wisconsin Monday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. It was the Rattlers (42-38 overall, 6-5 second half) who jumped to the early lead. Omar Garcia doubled with one out in the bottom of the second. He stole third and scored on a passed ball. Rafael Neda made it 2-0 in favor of the Rattlers with a two-out solo homer later in the inning. Victor Diaz, Wisconsin's starting pitcher, pitched like that would be enough for him. The right-hander extended his scoreless innings streak to fifteen when he worked a 1-2-3 fifth. But, the streak would not go past fifteen innings. Angel Rosa and Eric Aguilera singled to start the top of the sixth. Brandon Bayardi followed with a walk and the bases were loaded with no outs. The call went to the bullpen for Trevor Seidenberger to take over for Diaz. Seidenberger fell behind Stephen McGee 3-0 on the first three pitches he threw in the game. Seidenberger came back with two strikes, but would eventually walk McGee to force in a run. The Wisconsin lefty struck out Tyler Palmer for the first out, but he threw a wild pitch with Cambric Moye at the plate to let Aguilera score the tying run. Ranyelmy Mendoza was up with two out and runners at second and third when Seidenberger uncorked another wild pitch to let Bayardi score the go-ahead run. Later in the at bat, Mendoza singled to knock in McGee and the Bees (44-36, 6-5) were up 4-2. Burlington, the first half wild card in the Western Division, was forced to go to their bullpen in the third inning. Starting pitcher Daniel Hurtado left the game after the second inning. Trevor Foss, Cole Swanson, and Alex Blackford kept the Rattlers off the board for five innings. But, the Rattlers got something going against Blackford in the eighth. Steve Halcomb and Johnny Davis started the rally with singles and they were bunted into scoring position by Chris McFarland. Michael Ratterree blooped a 3-2 pitch from Blackford down the right field line for what looked to be a game-tying single. But the ball dropped just foul. Then, Blackford struck out Ratterree for the second out of the inning. Blackford would walk Clint Coulter on a 3-2 pitch and that ended his day. Alan Busenitz, the fifth Burlington pitcher of the game, entered and walked Taylor Brennan on four straight pitches to force in Halcomb and the Rattlers were within one. Busenitz got the final out on a force out at second. In the bottom of the ninth, Busenitz struck out the first two batters of the inning. Halcomb kept the game going with a single. But, Busenitz ended the game with a ground out to earn his tenth save of the season. Wisconsin swept Burlington in a four-game series at Community Field to open the second half of the season last weekend. The Bees came to Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium and took three of four games from the Timber Rattlers. The season series is even at eight win for each team. They will meet again August 27 through 29 in Grand Chute. The Timber Rattlers continue their homestand on Tuesday night. The Cedar Rapids Kernels are in town for the first game of a three-game series. Wisconsin has named Zach Quintana (2-4, 6.02) as their starting pitcher. Cedar Rapids has Aaron Slegers (5-5, 5.75) set to start for them. Game time is 7:05pm. The first 1,000 fans to attend this game will receive a bobblehead of Jim Henderson, a Timber Rattler in 2009 and a member of the Milwaukee Brewers bullpen since 2012, courtesy of American National Bank - Fox Cities. Tuesday's contest is the first game of the three-game Military Appreciation Series. Active, reserve, or retired members of all branches of the military will receive a free reserved bleacher seat ticket to any of the three games in the series with a valid military ID or verification of form DD-214 at the box office. Friends and family members of the military member may purchase a reserved bleacher seat at a discounted price of $7.00 per ticket. Timber Rattlers players and coaches will wear military-themed jerseys and hats during all games in this set with the Cedar Rapids Kernels. Hats and jerseys will be available in a silent auction that begins on July 1 and ends in the seventh inning of the game on July 3. Fans may phone in bids for the jerseys on July 2 and July 3 from 9:00am to 2:00pm by calling (800) WI-TIMBER or (920) 733-4152. 5. How exactly do you figure that? I would say the umpiring is roughly similar but the college players in R ball were the best of the best in college... How many college pitchers with legitimate stuff have we had who dominated Helena? Just because a handful of college hitters are putting the hurt on the R+ leagues early on this year doesn't change the significant jump in overall talent the players are facing.

  16. Back-to-back Bees blasts beat Rattlers Burlington tops Rattlers 5-3 By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers GRAND CHUTE, WI - Burlington Bees batters Eric Aguilera and Brandon Bayardi bopped consecutive home runs in the top of the fifth inning to break a 2-2 Sunday at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. The Bees held on to beat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 5-3. Both teams had chances in the first two innings, but neither could score. Each team got a leadoff double in the first inning. Bayardi drew a leadoff walk in the Burlington second, but was left stranded at second base. The Timber Rattlers (42-37 overall, 6-4 second half) loaded the bases with no outs in the second, but could not score. Burlington (43-36, 5-5) broke the ice first with two runs in the top of the third inning. Erick Salcedo singled and Kody Eaves walked to start the inning. Angel Rosa doubled to left-center and Salcedo scored while Eaves moved to third base. Mike Fish knocked in Eaves with a grounder to short and the Bees were up 2-0. The Rattlers answered in the bottom of the third. Chris McFarland and Omar Garcia both singled to start the inning. Ratterree doubled to drive in McFarland and send Garcia to third base. Clint Coulter drew a walk to load the bases. Taylor Brennan grounded into a 6-4-3 double play to score Garcia and tie the game 2-2. Aguilera hit the first pitch of the fifth inning deep to right-center for his tenth home run of the season. Then, Bayardi hit a 1-0 pitch out to left-center for back-to-back homers and a 4-2 lead. Wisconsin pulled to within a run in the bottom of the eighth. Michael Ratterree hit a solo homer with one out. The homer was the thirteenth of the season and ties him with Clint Coulter for the team lead in that category. Ratterree finished the day 3-for-3 with a pair of RBI and a walk in four trips to the plate. The Bees tacked on an insurance run in the top of the ninth on an RBI double by Bayardi. Ben Carlson retired the Rattlers in order in the bottom of the ninth to close out the win for the Bees. The series finale is Monday afternoon. 17. Sounds Grind Out 6-4 Win Over New Orleans Nashville's Hermida Goes 3-for-4; Sounds Now Half Game Out Of First Place Nashville Sounds http://www.milb.com/assets/images/8/2/4/75734824/cuts/Jeremy_Hermida_430_5_Large_s8h8vwn9_0m0nmlcd.jpg (Mike Strasinger / Nashville Sounds) NASHVILLE - The Nashville Sounds (42-40) continued their offensive hot streak to their third-straight victory, a 6-4 win over the New Orleans Zephyrs (43-40) on Sunday night at Greer Stadium. The win clinched another home series victory for Nashville, which is now 6-1-3 in home series during the 2014 series. The Sounds were paced by outfielder Jeremy Hermida, who went 3-for-4 including a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth that proved to be the game-winning hit. Hermida finished the four-game series against New Orleans going 5-for-11 with a home run and 3 RBIs. Hunter Morris got the back-and-forth affair started in the bottom of the first by blasting a two-run homer to right field. The Sounds are now 23-1 at home when scoring first this season, and Morris is now hitting .344 (11-for-32) in his last eight games. New Orleans answered with a run in the top of the second on a Kyle Jensen double, and then tied the game in the top of the third when pitcher Brad Hand hit a home run. Nashville briefly took the lead again on a Sean Halton single in the bottom of the fourth, but the advantage wouldn't last long as Zephyrs reliever Jesus Sanchez knocked in two runs on an infield single in the top of the fourth. Nashville later tied the game in the bottom of the fourth on a Hector Gomez triple. The Nashville bullpen again shined behind starter Michael Blazek, as Kyle Heckathorn, Brent Leach, Dustin Molleken and Jeremy Jeffress combined to allow just one earned run in 5.1 innings of work. Leach picked up the win after pitching 1.1 clean innings while striking out three. Jeffress earned his first save of the season after retiring the Zephyrs in the ninth. The Sounds moved into second place after the victory are now just a half game back of the Zephyrs for first place in the division. The Sounds will now open a four-game series with the Memphis Redbirds at Greer on Monday at 7:05 p.m. RHP Mike Fiers (6-3, 2.53 ERA) will make his return in a Nashville uniform against Zach Petrick (4-3, 4.48 ERA). 18. Rattlers sprint past Bees with five-run sixth inning Brennan & Coulter homer as Williams earns sixth win By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers http://www.milb.com/assets/images/3/0/4/82176304/cuts/Taylor_Williams_Star_Wars_re0wkozf_cnr25go8.jpg Taylor Williams picked up his sixth win of the season for the Timber Rattlers with his win on Saturday at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers broke a 1-1 tie with five runs in the sixth inning and went on to defeat the Burlington Bees 6-1 Saturday night at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Wisconsin pitcher Taylor Williams allowed a run over six innings to earn his fifth straight victory. Taylor Brennan hit the first pitch of the bottom of the second inning over the wall in left for a home run. The homer, Brennan's eighth of the season, gave Wisconsin (42-36 overall, 6-3 second half) a 1-0 lead. That was the only run the Rattlers would get against Burlington starter Victor Alcantara, who went five innings and allowed just two hits while striking out six. Burlington (42-36, 4-5) had two hits off Williams through five innings and hadn't threatened to score. Then, Angel Rosa launched a home run to left to start the top of the sixth inning and the game was tied. Mike Fish followed with a single. Williams got the first out of the inning on a force play at second and escaped the frame when he got Brandon Bayardi to ground into a 4-6-3 double play. Wisconsin responded in a big way in the bottom of the sixth against reliever Grant Gordon. Omar Garcia started the inning with a single and stole second. Michael Ratterree worked the count to 3-2 and drove an offering from Gordon to the left-center field game to drive in Garcia for a 2-1 lead. Clint Coulter jumped on the next pitch and hammered his thirteenth home run of the season well over the wall in left. The homer snapped an 0-for-14 streak for Coulter and put Wisconsin up 4-1. The inning continued as Gordon walked Brennan and Rafael Neda before being replaced by Alex Blackford with runners at first and second with no outs. Blackford would get out of the inning, but not before he threw three wild pitches to eventually score both Brennan and Neda for a 6-1 lead. Tyler Alexander took over for Taylor Williams and struck out four over two perfect innings. Trevor Seidenberger came on to pitch the top of the ninth and he worked around a leadoff single with a double play and a strikeout to close out the game. Game three of the series is Sunday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Game time is 1:05pm. Preston Gainey (2-4, 4.03) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Harrison Cooney (5-3, 2.20) is set to take the mound for the Bees. Bernie Carbo, a former Milwaukee Brewer and one of Boston's heroes from Game Six of the 1975 World Series, will be on hand as part of Faith Day and Brewers Sunday. The gates to the ballpark will open at 10:00am for a special on field service from 10:30am to 11:30am. Brakebush Chicken, The Family 91.9 and Lifefest present a postgame concert by The Neverclaim in the Fox Communities Credit Union Fox Club. 19. Sounds Blow Away Zephyrs, 13-0 Nashville's Halton Goes 4-for-5; Jungmann Delivers 7 Scoreless Innings Nashville Sounds http://www.milb.com/assets/images/0/1/0/82177010/cuts/MPS_0285_Large_dnau8el0_81fxmtu1.jpg NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds (42-41) offense exploded for 13 runs before 7,879 fans at Greer Stadium in Saturday night's 13-0 shutout victory over the first-place New Orleans Zephyrs. The 13 runs by Sounds batters matches a season-high and the 13-run deficit is the largest since a 19-0 shutout at Colorado Springs in game one of doubleheader on August 4, 2011. Hunter Morris, 2-for-4, got Nashville on the board in the 1st inning with a two-out single into left field. Later, the 25-year-old slugger connected for a two-run triple in the Sounds' five-run 5th inning to give Nashville a 4-0 advantage. Sean Halton, who matched a career-best four-hit night with two doubles and two singles, drove in Morris with a base-knock into left field. The Sounds continued for five runs in the fifth inning to make it 7-0 in favor of the home team. Starting pitcher Taylor Jungmann (4-4) helped keep the Zephyrs off the board by delivering seven scoreless innings to secure his fourth win with the Sounds. The 24-year-old right-hander limited the Z's to two hits on the night, struck out eight batters, and escaped a bases-loaded one-out jam in the 4th inning with a strikeout followed by a groundout. Jungmann has worked quality starts in each of his last two outings and improves his Greer Stadium record to 3-1 with a 2.59 ERA (7er/24.1ip). He helped his own cause by plating two Nashville runners with a single to right field in the 5th. Pinch hitter Kevin Mattison batted for Jungmann in the 7th inning and drove a three-run triple to dead centerfield to give Nashville a 10-run advantage. Mattison came in to score via a Pete Orr infield single. Newcomer Jason Rogers kept the six-run inning alive with a monster home run to dead center field, which scored two. In his first two Triple-A games, Rogers has a home run, triple, double and four RBIs. Outfielder Caleb Gindl also contributed to the Sounds run column with his RBI single in the 4th inning, scoring Halton. Relievers Arcenio Leon and Donovan Hand each pitched an inning of relief work to preserve the Sounds' PCL-leading 7th shutout of the year. It is the first time Nashville has recorded back-to-back shut out victories since June 2009. The Sounds will look to win the series against New Orleans in Sunday's finale at 6:35 p.m. RHP Michael Blazek (0-3, 4.75) will take the hill for Nashville opposite the Z's LHP Brad Hand (2-0, 2.33). Nelson, Sounds Blank Z's, 5-0 Brewers Top Prospect Hurls Seven Scoreless; Rogers Goes 2-for-3 In Triple-A Debut Nashville Sounds http://www.milb.com/assets/images/5/7/6/81988576/cuts/J_Rogers_Red_wsxhjo5t_sk0yvmjc.jpg (Mike Strasinger / Nashville Sounds) NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Top prospect Jimmy Nelson worked seven scoreless frames and combined with a pair of relievers on a four-hit shutout in the Nashville Sounds' 5-0 victory over the New Orleans Zephyrs on Friday evening at Greer Stadium. Nashville (41-41), which snapped a five-game losing skid at Greer, tossed its fifth shutout of the year and improved to 21-1 when scoring first at home. Nelson (9-2) was spectacular again for Nashville, holding the Z's to three singles in his seven frames to log his co-leading ninth win of the year and lower his ERA to 1.66. The Brewers' top prospect struck out nine batters during his 85-pitch effort, the right-hander's 14th quality outing in 15 trips to the hill for the Sounds this season. Dustin Molleken worked around a pair of baserunners in striking out the side during a scoreless eighth for Nashville before Jeremy Jeffress retired the Z's in order to close out the shutout win in the ninth. Third baseman Jason Rogers -- who enjoyed a solid Sounds debut with a 2-for-3 effort that included two RBIs and a pair of extra-base hits -- ripped a leadoff triple to left-center in the bottom of the fifth inning for his first Triple-A hit and scored the night's first run when Jeremy Hermida followed with a bloop RBI single to left. Bryan Evans (4-5) took a hard-luck loss in his spot start for the Zephyrs. The right-hander allowed one run on two hits over five innings. The Sounds upped the lead to 4-0 in the sixth against Z's reliever Arquimedes Caminero. Rogers plated Jeff Bianchi (2-for-4) with a sacrifice fly before right fielder Jeremy Hermida (2-for-4) blasted a monstrous 401-foot three-run homer to right-center, the slugger's eighth roundtripper of the season. Rogers continued his strong PCL debut in the eighth when he stroked an RBI double to left-center that plated Bianchi to up the Nashville advantage to 5-0. The teams continue the series with a 6:35 p.m. matchup on Saturday evening. Right-hander Taylor Jungmann (3-4, 6.17) will man the bump for the Sounds and face New Orleans lefty Adam Conley (2-2, 4.08). Nashville Boxscore Nashville Recap Nashville Gameday
  21. I apologize in advance but I'm on the road the next couple of days and won't have time for commentary. Bees, Bayardi beat Wisconsin 5-4 Burlington DH goes 4-for-4 with homer and three RBI By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers played their first home game since June 12 when they faced the Burlington Bees Friday night at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. The Bees wrecked the welcome home party with a 5-4 defeat of Wisconsin. Brandon Bayardi went 4-for-4 with a homer, a double, and three RBI to pace the Bees to their fourth straight win. Burlington (42-35 overall, 4-4 second half) strung together three straight singles with one out in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Mike Fish started the singles binge. Eric Aguilera's hit-and-run single pushed Fish around to third. Bayardi's sinking liner dropped in for a single in right to drive in Fish for Burlington's run. Tyler Palmer tripled with one out in the top of the second inning. He headed for the plate on a suicide squeeze, but Erick Salcedo missed the bunt. Palmer was trapped between third and home, but scored to make the score 2-0 when the Rattlers (41-36, 5-3) botched the rundown play. Burlington added two more runs in the top of the fifth inning. They had a runner at first with two outs and Aguilera tripled to deep right-center to knock that run in. Bayardi followed with an RBI single and the Bees were up 4-0. Burlington starting pitcher Garrett Nuss struck out seven and allowed three hits through six shutout innings. He went back out for the seventh and got into trouble. Taylor Brennan singled and Clint Coulter walked. Nuss got the first out on a popup to first. Cooper followed with a double over the head of the right fielder to drive in both Brennan and Coulter. That two-run double knocked Nuss out of the game. Burlington reliever Alan Busenitz got the second out of the frame. Then, Steve Halcomb dropped a single into shallow center to drive in Cooper and make it a one-run game. Angel Ortega kept the rally going with a single that got Halcomb around to third base with the tying run, but the inning ended with the Bees up 4-3. Bayardi gave the Bees an insurance run in the top of the eighth with a long home run to left. The solo shot, Bayardi's first home run of the season, came off Barrett Astin with one out and extended Burlington's lead to 5-3. Ben Carlson came on for the Bees in the bottom of the ninth and Michael Ratterree greeted him with a double to the wall in left. Cooper was next and he sent a line drive to right. Ranyelmy Mendoza raced back on the ball, but had it glance off his glove to the wall. Ratterree came home with the run to make it a one-run game again. However, Cooper pulled up limping at first base and could not move up to second base. Carlson got the first out of the inning on a force play at second. Carlson closed out the game by inducing a 4-6-3 double play, the fourth twin killing of the game for the Bees. Saturday night is Star Wars Night. Timber Rattlers players and coaches will wear jerseys based on the armor worn by Darth Vader in the classic science fiction movies. Many characters from the movies will be on hand to meet with fans and pose for pictures. There will be a silent auction for the jerseys with the proceeds going to Make-A-Wish Wisconsin. There will be a postgame fireworks display presented by FOX 11. If you can't make it out to the ballpark, there are many ways to catch the action. 22. Sounds Thumped by Zephyrs, 11-1 Nashville Scatters Seven Hits; Pete Orr Goes 2-for-4 Nashville Sounds NASHVILLE - The Nashville Sounds (40-41) dropped a tough 11-1 decision to the American Conference Southern Division leading New Orleans Zephyrs (43-37) at Greer Stadium on Thursday night. The 10-run deficit is the most allowed by the Sounds this season. Nashville starter Ariel Pena struggled with his command in a brief three inning start where he allowed seven earned runs on six hits while walking four and throwing five wild pitches. The Zephyrs hit Pena early and often, jumping out to a 3-0 lead after the top of the first. New Orleans increased the deficit to 9-0 before the Sounds got on the scoreboard with a Jeff Bianchi RBI double in the bottom of the fifth, scoring Logan Schafer. Schafer was an on-base machine for Nashville, drawing a season-high three walks. The only Sounds batter to record multiple hits was Pete Orr, who went 2-for-4. Orr is now hitting .382 in his last 17 games while picking up at least one hit in 15 of those contests. Caleb Gindl's double in the bottom of the fourth gives him extra-base knocks in his last four games, which matches a Sounds season high previously set by Hector Gomez from April 24 to April 27. The Sounds were able to save the bullpen thanks to Eric Marzec pitching four innings, his longest outing of the season. He allowed one earned run while tying a season-high with four strikeouts. Brent Leach followed by allowing one run in two innings of work. In the last two games, the Sounds bullpen has allowed just three runs in 13.1 innings pitched. With the win, New Orleans increased their lead over the Sounds in the Southern Division to 3.5 games. Nashville will look to get back in the division race against the Zephyrs Friday at 7:05 p.m. Brewers No. 1 prospect Jimmy Nelson (8-2, 1.79 ERA) will take to the hill for Nashville against Zephyrs LHP Brian Flynn (7-5, 3.56 ERA). Jeff Hem will have the call on 102.5 The GAME. Nashville Boxscore Is there a bigger tease in the entire Brewers' system than Ariel Pena? Tonight was the alter ego to those occasional flashes of brilliance. Old friend Jesus Sanchez is having a tough year but had a good night tonight against the Sounds. Nashville Recap Nashville Gameday
  23. Rattlers shutout in final game of road trip Kane County stops Wisconsin 5-0 By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers GENEVA, IL - Daury Torrez tossed eight innings and got enough offensive support from the Kane County Cougars to defeat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 5-0 on Thursday night at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark. Torrrez, who is 3-0 in three starts against the Timber Rattlers this season, allowed five hits, struck out seven, and earned his eighth win of the year. Wisconsin (41-35 overall, 5-2 second half) started the game with something that looked promising against Torrez. Angel Ortega tripled with one out. But, Torrez struck out the next two batters to end the threat. The first inning was the only time during the game the Timber Rattlers got a runner to third base. Kane County (50-27, 5-2) scored an unearned run in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Jake Hannemann singled and took second on an error to lead off the inning. Rattlers starting pitcher Tristan Archer struck out Carlos Penalver for the first out. The ball was returned to Archer and Hannemann took off for third while the next batter was being announced for an extremely delayed steal of third base. Kyle Schwarber grounded out to short on a 3-0 pitch to get Hannemann home with the first run of the game. The Cougars added to their lead in the bottom of the third inning. Archer retired the first two batters he faced in the inning. But, Schwarber and Ben Carhart singled to get the inning to Jacob Rogers. The Timber Rattlers defense was set up with Ortega, the Wisconsin shortstop, set up behind second base. Rogers defeated the shift by sending a grounder to the normal shortstop position on a 2-1 pitch for a single to score Schwarber for a 2-0 advantage. Zach Quintana relieved Archer to start the bottom of the sixth inning. He walked Carhart and allowed a single to Rogers, the first two batters he faced. Trey Martin doubled with one out to knock in both runners and Kane County's lead doubled to four runs. Schwarber started the bottom of the eighth inning with a double and scored on a double by Carhart to account for the final run of the game. That was more than enough for Torrez. In three starts against Wisconsin, Torrez has allowed five runs in 20-1/3 innings. On Thursday night, Torrez never reached a three-ball count on any batter and only topped fifteen pitches in an inning once. This marked just the second time Wisconsin has been shutout this season. The Cougars handed the Rattlers their other shutout defeat when they topped Wisconsin 1-0 in nine innings for a win in the second game of a doubleheader on May 20 at home. Wisconsin finished their extended ten-game road trip with a 7-3 record. Wisconsin was 2-1 at Quad Cities to end the first half of the Midwest League season June 13-15; swept a four-game series at Burlington from June 20-22; and dropped two of three at Kane County in a series that began on Tuesday. The Cougars still have not lost a home series and are now 33-9 at home in 2014. The Timber Rattlers begin a seven-game homestand on Friday night when they host the Burlington Bees in game one of a four-game series. Clint Terry (1-1, 3.48) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin. Burlington has named Garrett Nuss (3-0, 3.84) as their starting pitcher. Game time is 7:05pm. There will be plenty going on at the stadium to welcome the team back to town for their first home game since June 12. It's the sixth annual Peanut Free Night. No peanuts will be in the stadium to allow fans with peanut allergies to attend the game. Neuroscience Group presents the MEGA Brain and Strike Out Stroke Night. The MEGA Brain is a one of a kind display and Neuroscience Group will have it in front of the stadium plus they will provide free blood pressure screenings inside the ballpark. The first 500 fans to attend this game will receive a magnet featuring former Timber Rattler Jim Henderson from Lamers Bus Lines. This is magnet number two in a series of four that are being given away this season. It's also a North Shore Bank Family Night w/ Y100. All children 12 and under receive a free hot dog and soda as part of North Shore Bank Family night. There will be a postgame fireworks display. Then, kids 14 and under may participate in Kids Run the Bases thanks to Molina Healthcare after the fireworks. Plus, Potawatomi Bingo Casino presents Baseball Bingo, a chance to win prizes by playing a baseball-themed bingo game. If you can't make it out to the ballpark, there are several ways to catch the action. MyNEW32's Sports Showdown will have the television broadcast beginning at 7:00pm. The radio call may be heard on AM1280, WNAM or IHeartRadio starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 6:45pm. The game is also available to subscribers of MiLB.TV. WP: Daury Torrez (8-3) LP: Tristan Archer (2-3) TIME: 2:15 ATTN: 7,653 Wisconsin Boxscore Well this was an ugly listen... Daury Torrez only had 38 SO in 72.1 IP coming into tonight's game but he now has 16 SO in 20.1 IP against the T-Rats. I have a feeling the Rattlers are going to be the wrong side of a feature story tonight, Torrez isn't currently at top 30 prospect for the Cubs. The bottom of the order accounted for 4 of Wisconsin's 5 hits and Jose Pena (2-3) had the only multi-hit game. Wisconsin Recap
