  1. I think we could throw Nelson into the mix as well. Do they have anyone decent at 1B? Hall, Nelson and Gillespie for Roberts and a pitcher should get the deal done. Roberts in leadoff position would be dynamite for this team.
  2. Based on the replay, I'm expecting bad news on Weeks. Or good news depending on your take on Weeks. I would bet Crabbe over Iribarren if Weeks goes on DL. So Hall gets another new position? If we move him enough maybe he will bat under .200.
  3. It certainly seems to time to dangle Hall and Gwynn somewhere. Hall is probably more valuable to the Brewers than on the market, but maybe it would be best to let him go. We can't be serious about McClung in the rotation if we have playoff aspirations.
  4. This is a subject I thought about starting a few days back. Very legitimate question, and one can't totally blame Hall for being upset. He had a real nice year at short two years ago and since then has been getting yanked around while JJ Hardy seems to be the chosen one. Yes, Hardy makes the easy play, but his range is poor. I vote Hall for short until Escobar is ready.
  5. Isn't Weeks a 2B, and a small one at that? I agree with X on this.
  6. Best player available in every round, tie goes to the pitcher.
  7. Toolive, you suggested that since JJ had his best year last year that he does not mind batting 8th. You were right that he did have his best year, but he wasn't batting 8th. He was batting second. When he did bat 8th, he was very good, so in a round about way you were both right and wrong. I'm defintely wrong on all counts because I thought he had bad numbers in the 8 hole. I'm done.
  8. You were correct in correcting me Toolive, but you did point out that his best year was last year, in front of the pitcher. So although you were correct the information you provided was not entirely appropriate in support of your argument. I admit I am wrong, but at least you could admit to your mistake as well.
  9. How do you know he saw the 2nd most strikes? Do they count swings as strikes?
  10. Toolive, You are correct that Hardy had his best season last year, and he did hit .314 batting 8th, but over 400 of his AB's and 19 Hr's came batting 2nd, not 8th.
  11. Toolive, If he is walking more, doesn't that mean he is not getting good pitches? I'm confused, can you elaborate?
  12. I'm not sure what part of the post toolive is referring to, but I too believe that Hardy did not like hitting in front of the pitcher and it hurt his production. It seems logical that some guys would be affected more than others by the thought that the pitcher is up next. Isn't it also true that the guy who hits in front of the pitcher is likely to get fewer fastballs, the pitch that supposedly Hardy is the best on the team in hitting?
  13. If we are going to trade him, could we please trade him to the American League. I worry mostly about Prince's thickness. Seems a little larger this year and I'm wondering if that may limit him down the road. I too would trade Prince and a couple pieces for no less than 3 highly touted pitchers.
  14. Who would you rather have at the plate against RHP right now, Hall or Hardy? I think it is a legitimate question. Does Hardy produce as many runs as Hall, despite the average difference. Looking at some stats, in the last two years Hall is batting .103 when he gets to a 1-2 count. He is batting .150 when it gets to an 0-2 count. So, it seems that one thing Billy might want to change is his approach when behind in count. Right Field Billy!! Also possibly shorten up the swing and maybe, dare I say it, choke up. I see Hall is batting over .300 this year when he leads off the inning. Would batting him leadoff for a week be a crazy thing. Make him think differently about his role. Tell him to hit the ball the other way; if he flunks that test then he can go back to supersub.
  15. In the last two seasons, in a little over 400 At bats, Branyan has K'd 154 times. I'm not defending Hall, and I know many here like Branyan's OPS, but his .220 batting average the last two seasons doesn't impress me either. Maybe a week off and Hall will find RF again.
  16. They asked him to play RF but he couldn't find it. I agree he needs to be held accountable but so does JJ Hardy. Hall played very well as a SS a while back, and I don't see JJ Hardy producing any more than Hall. Why does JJ get a pass? I think he is not better than a utility guy. I agree Hall should shut up and look to RF, but we need all players to be held accountable. Stetter had two bad outings and gone. It seems the standard is different for different players.
  17. We continue to get good pitches...foul them off...then get suckered. Hart had two bad breaking ball to hit in that at bat.
  18. But it fits Melvin to a T. He likes veteran relievers and thinks they can be resurrected in Milwaukee. It worked once, for about a year, and that project is now walking 2 an inning at Nashville. Give the young guys a chance. Dillard looked great tonight, Pena should be ready soon...Sarfate oops...Eveland oops....trust the youngsters Doug, and trade for a couple veteran starters like Wolf or Maddux or Redding(my personal favorite).
  19. Thank you very much AKA, my sentiments exactly.
  20. So JHart05, you don't mind if we have two pitchers in the lineup? I completely disagree that offense is a bonus from the catcher. Especially when you have 3 other players on the team hitting less than .220. So if he hits .220 that is fine with you? If he does hit .220 it is my opinion it will be because he was overworked early in the season. You would think Simmons and Yost have enough knowledge, but as ex-catchers they might also buy in to Kendall's bravado of catching every day. We are not talking Piazza with the bat here, and therefore a day off is not going to hurt our overall offense. I never expected him to hit .350, but I will contend that his average and OBP would remain higher if he was given more time off. We may never know who is right in this matter, but it is my opinion that Kendall is going to fade badly in July and August. And, keep in mind, if he is hitting .220 in July then what was his actual average from April 30th on, considering his incredible start. I do agree with you that his catching is more important, as he does a great job, but I still think we need production.
  21. I'm with Briggs. Yost is killing the guy. I believe his numbers will soon drop dramatically if Ned doesn't get the guy some rest. Rivera is more than capable of starting two games a week. You will get better production out of Kendall if he gets some rest.
  22. The short and sad answer to the question asked is no. I had hopes that Narveson may live up to his once lofty prospect status, but that bubble appears to have burst. I think as a whole the pitching in the entire organization is very poor right now. I think all 6 of our draft picks in the first 62 should be pitchers.
  23. How about Dana Eveland? Seriously, we need to acquire Maddux and Redding, move Bush and Villy to pen, and have McClung close.
  24. I think we need two.....Tim Redding is a FA and would fit in very nice, I believe.
  25. Two problems with Maddux that we need to consider...1) Money 2) He won't get to pitch half his game in Petco....I do like Gwynn more than many on this board but he could definitely go.
