  1. I'm bringing this back due to wishful thinking. Another solid outing against Philly. I think we could get Redding, Cordero, and Maddux without mortgaging our future. Sheets Maddux Redding Suppan Parra
  2. I'm amazed at the number of posts suggesting that we could trade Prince. I don't think the club has any intention of trading him now, or in the forseeable future. When is he actually a FREE agent? 2012? I would have no problem trading him, but only to the AL and for a combination of pitchers and pitchers...and if possible, more pitchers.
  3. If you have below average stuff for the big-league level you better have excellent command. He doesn't. He walks too many because he knows he has to be fine...then when they get on he has to bring strikes...and he simply can't live in the zone. It's strange that we have 3 starters out of 5 that can't break a pane of glass yet they have command issues. That is a horrible combination. At least Parra can hit 90 before he starts walking people.
  4. Ah yes, he is scoring runs, so therefore he is successful. All that means is that when does actually manage to get walked or hit that the rest of the team is capable of knocking him in. And by the way, 11th in runs is not great feat when you consider there are 16 teams in the NL; the leadoff hitter has the best odds of scoring the most runs. I don't advocate replacing him, however, because the reality is we have no one capable of filling the position.
  5. I don't think TH blogging is the same thing as your or I blogging. It seems that since he represents a newspaper he should be held to a higher degree of responsibility. That being said I am not saying he is irresponsible at all.
  6. Once again, how can we actually prove that our pitcher batting 8th has been successful. I am just asking, because I keep hearing that it is working but I'm bewildered as to how you can actually prove that. Are we scoring more? Is the 7 batter hitting better? I just don't get it but am completely open to an intelligent statistical analysis.
  7. FYI Hernan Iribarren played 2B for Nashville on Sat. night. Just throwing that out there. Weeks is the most overhyped Brewer prospect since Glenn Braggs. Weeks has huge holes in his swing, continues to wrap his bat incorrectly(which led to his injury by the way) and therefore has a tiny zone in which to actually hit the ball hard if at all. I keep hoping that a new day will bring forth the potential we all see, but at what point does reality set in and tell us that he is what he is...a big tease.
  8. Toolive, I was surprised to see he had a lifetime OPS of over .800, but in Branyan's last two seasons, he has mashed some hr's like always, but in 404 AB's he is hitting .220 with 158 strikeouts. I just think he is more of the same for this team, too many k's. The most frustrating thing is that who would've thought that we would be having this thread about Branyan in the first place? Frustrating because we were expecting better from those currently on the field.
  9. I will be the first vote against the return of 3TO to Milwaukee. We have a rather extensive body of major league work that tells us that the league he belongs in is the league he is in. How many teams has this guy played for? There is a reason he has bounced from place to place.
  10. I think everyone is way off base here and I think Fielder will be signed long-term. I know the concerns about his fielding, including his lousy footwork when he catches throws, and his possible body issues, but I think the current regime is thinking of building around him and Braun. Is the fact that he is a Boras client the reason so many suspect he is leaving? Personally, I believe at some point we have to address our lack of pitching. We have one top starter and the rest are end of the rotation guys, with only Parra having the stuff for anything better.
  11. And now Stetter can't find the plate. I wonder if this will be the last year for Maddux. No one has actually improved under his watch for awhile, have they?
  12. It's so early, but it seems hard to believe that we are going to right this ship. Too many questions in too many areas to think it is going to all come together. Is it possible we will be a seller at some point this year? Now Riske down on top of everything. Cubs are playing great, Cardinals too...Houston....Reds are improving.....
  13. Just took a peek at Difelice's numbers. I wonder why he never got a shot before, as his numbers are consistently above average at all levels. Good control and ERA at most stops. Even in some difficult parks.
  14. I know Ben has had good luck with Kendall, but this is starting to get ridiculous. The guy is going to be gassed by July. Patience needed today, therefore no Hall. Dillon should be good for 2 walks. Cameron needs a day off?
  15. I second Dillard, but if Yost thinks he can get by without a reliever maybe we see Brad Nelson for the weekend.
  16. Wherever he plays in the field is not as intriguing as the uniform he has on when he does it. I don't see how he fits, unless he becomes Gabe Gross next year. I'm sure Kapler will be one and done, so we will need a 5th outfielder. He doesn't strike me as the type, however.
  17. If you read West's lips he said "I saw it, I saw it". This certainly means that Torre had nothing to do with anything, and that West saw him getting extra pitches in the bullpen. I think West is a great umpire, and I do not agree that he thinks fans come to see him. He is calm and composed in almost every situation. He does not go all theatre on his call and don't forget, he came up with the West Vest.
  18. I know Cordero is hurt right now, and I've never been a huge fan anyhow, but if we want to make a run would either of these guys work for us. Redding has really resurrected his career and will be a free agent. Cordero costs about $6m, not sure for how long. Redding seems like the easier catch, and we know that Bowden(is he still there?) likes toolsy minor leaguers. Not even going to suggest what we might have to give, just wondering if anyone thinks Redding would be a good catch.
  19. I don't know much about Soria, but I do believe at some point we should trade either LaPorta or Gamel. Gamel appears to be a position switch waiting to happen, and LaPorta may be better off at 1B or in the AL. I just don't think they will both have places in Milwaukee. We need to pick up some live arms, even though they can bust on you more often than a hitter.
  20. jhart, I do agree they won't bring them up, but I don't think it has anything to do with AA or AAA. AAA is no longer a requirement for promotion. See Al Pujols. nate, I'm just curious, but how can you actually say "look at the stats" to know if the current lineup is working? Are we scoring more than we did last year? How do you know we would not have scored more if the P is batting 9th? What stat are you basing it on? I'm not disagreeing with you, but it just seems difficult to gauge. It is only my opinion but I believe it has hurt JJ Hardy's production, and it could be argued that Hall being only two removed the pitcher has also been affected. Seems to me over the year all it does if give the Pitcher more at bats.
  21. I think I should've put my original post in blue. I was just messin' around, hence the word 'simple'. And as far as Weeks goes, are we now worried about his options? If not, he was a poor example for your argument. I think I like the Menotti post. The reality is that we just aren't that good on the mound and maybe a bit too inexperienced on offense. The Cardinals are currently the poster boys for strong starting pitching and plate discipline. Look what Braun did yesterday when he actually swung at strikes. I think the the guys we have currently on the roster are the best we have.
  22. I don't know, maybe to try and win them. I would doubt Gamel would be a guy to worry about options. I don't know all the rules, but he doesn't seem like a guy that will be "Gwynning" for his career, so will options be a problem? Didn't we do that with Prince? I guess I was just thinking that it would be nice to have another LH bat for Fenway.
  23. Unless Weaver has gone Quisenberry or Candiotti on us, don't we know what we get with Weaver, and therefore should avoid him like the plague? I'd like to see the Difelice guy get a shot just for fun, but in the long run I think we need to use excess offense to pick up some pitching prospects at the higher levels. It's all about the pitching, and I just don't see us having enough.
  24. If Bush sucky tonight, he goes back down. Bring up Dillard. Bring up Difelice for Thursday game and send Parra out. Bring up Gamel after Thursday game...ship Difelice out. Send Gamel out after Sunday game, bring Parra back. Simple.
  25. I think it is pretty clear you won't be seeing Gamel at 3B any time soon. I had heard it was his throwing that was the problem, but either way he clearly isn't ready. But, how about Gamel for a 3 game series at Fenway?
