  1. Shapiro wants major league ready arms, we don't have that.
  2. This is being discussed in another thread, just so you know.
  3. DeRosa to the DL...good timing. (Edit: Here's a link - hawing)
  4. Isn't Halladay signed through 2010? If so then this is much different than the CC deal and it would not be a rental.
  5. Lawrie would be popular in Toronto for sure. I think the Jays would want another pitcher in that deal, one that is closer to the majors and that might be a stumbling block. I'd do that trade in a second.
  6. I'd like to get Rolen along with Halladay. Give them Gamel, Escobar, and a couple pitching prospects. There are plenty of prospects folks, we have a draft every year so don't get too excited about losing some. Taylor Green will be a fine 3B in about two years and we can sign Hardy long term. Rolen and Halladay would bring the Central crown to the crew.
  7. Invader, I don't think the anti-Braun sentiment on this board has anything to do with his talent. Where do you see that? So what if he can carry the team for the next several years. Being a great talent does not give you the right to make negative comments about the pitching staff to the MEDIA. I do not appreciate a player that speaks his mind. I would much rather hear 'athletespeak' or whatever that is because issues on a baseball team should not be played out in the media. It serves no purpose and going to the media with problems that everyone knows exists is not an example of leadership. I also believe there are not a handful of players more cocky than Braun. He makes me cringe with the things he does, but since he is a Brewer we accept it as just being competitive. I do agree with you that what Melvin did was not smart, as he too used the media to air dirty laundry. What are these people thinking?
  8. I don't get it. I keep reading or hearing that Salome may not be able to catch at the major league level, but Nashville keeps winning games with him as a catcher. How are they able to overcome his horrific catching and still win games? How did Burns flourish at AAA with Jason Kendall behind the plate??
  9. bucksbeat, The fans can say it, a teammate can and should not. It serves no purpose and shows Braun's arrogance, as if we needed another example.
  10. Tuesdays, I completely disagree with the idea that this will somehow stimulate a move for a starting pitcher. Don't you think Melvin spends about 10 hours a day trying to figure out how to get one, only to have the punk come out and insinuate he has to move faster or else? If anything this could hurt Melvin's leverage with other teams. I do agree with you about the current rotation, however. It is ugly and Burns needs to go back to AAA ASAP. Davis would be a fine pickup as he goes deep into games and helps the bullpen situation, and since I have a DVR now the games would not be 5 hours long.
  11. I'm with Melvin on this but I think he should've kept his disgust in house and not gone through TH. Braun has no business saying the things he said, so what if they are true. Bill Hall is a terrible baseball player, but should Braun come out and say it. Suppan and Looper both pitched very well in Chicago, and Braun should just shut his mouth and play. If Braun was not a Brewer I think it would be very difficult to like him. But on the other hand, Doug is smart enough to know that he shouldn't play this out in the media.
  12. I'm sorry if I completely miss the point of the discussion, although I think there are actually several discussions here. I guess I don't see Gamel being anything special, so I'm not getting all excited about the situation. My point was that I think we can trust the Brewers to do the right thing, and I don't like the implication that Macha and Melvin are not on the same page. Mags has a knee issue right now, so they are concerned about playing him every day. Gamel is the alternative right now. I think Gamel will be sent down over the break. I guess when I read some posts it seems that fans get so excited if a supposed top prospect is not playing every day. He has actually played quite a bit, albeit not lately. Sorry I missed the point of your discussion. I trust the brass and Gams will be fine.
  13. I can't believe how overblown this situation is getting. The guy is struggling to get the ball out of the infield so he isn't playing much. Now we suddenly have a power struggle going on? Gamel is not going to lose all skill in a 2-3 month period of not playing that much. I do think he should be sent down, simply because he isn't helping us. The guy is no Prince or Braun, and should not be on the no-trade list.
  14. It's amazing with today's mindset that anyone ever throws more than 200 innings in a season. Gallardo is and will be fine. As far as Gamel goes, he is hitting nothing hard and is playing as much as he should. Macha knows what he is doing. Gamel shouldn't even be on the team. He looks confused.
  15. I think Gamel should be sent down, not because he isn't playing much but rather because he is not ready. He rarely hits the ball hard, swings and misses at very hittable fastballs, and appears off balance. Send him down when we trade for Felipe Lopez on Thursday.
  16. I can't see Atlanta blowing up their rotation for a guy that is only slightly better than the guy they already have. This is just Rosenthal playing fantasy baseball, and I don't think he is particularily good at it. I think the Brewers will continue to monitor the situation in Seattle with Washburn.
  17. I don't think 'patience' has anything to do with his problem. The problem is pitch recognition. He obviously can't determine if the pitch is a slider, and once he does he can't figure out if it is a ball or strike. Patience means you aren't anxious at the plate. I don't see Hart that way at all. I never thought Hart would be great, but I thought we could pencil him in for .280, 20 HR, 20 SB and solid defense.
  18. I have no idea if we should make a play for Peavy, but I grow tired of the "fear" of losing prospects. There will always be prospects. I remember everyone panning the Cardinals minor league system for years, but they seem to be doing ok these days. Trades are fun, bring excitement and that is what its all about for me. If we make the deal I think we should throw Gerut back to them.
  19. He just doesn't seem like the same guy that was pre all-star break 2008. He seems so lost that he seems so shocked when he gets a fastball that he is missing those too. The bat speed is slow-mo right now on everything. He waves at everything. I don't see Gerut or Cat as the answer. He needs to shorten the swing and take it to right. An occasional bunt of the slider would be nice. I don't know anything about the guy but he seems a bit preoccupied with the hair and tats. I'd like to know about the guys work ethic before I right him off. Does he work hard? Does he watch tape or whatever it is they do now? He was my favorite player before the all-star break last year, so I am rooting for him. Hart, Hall, Kendall, ugh!
  20. I'm not saying I am interested in trading for Peavy, but I do not believe that trading prospects should be the issue. If you believe in your scouting and in your minor league instructors, there will always be prospects. We become infatuated with these guys because we always like to see the next possible star emerge, but the reality is that they are expendable, especially non-pitchers, and even for a small market club. I wouldn't be afraid to trade anyone for pitching, but Peavy may be too expensive dollars wise. We may not be a playoff team with him, but I am quite sure we are not one without him. We have to be kidding ourselves if we think a rotation of Gallardo, Parra, Soup, Bush and McClung is playoff caliber.
  21. I'm going to resign CC, so my lineup will be cheap...Bench will consist of vets including Mark Loretta....I know this won't happen...but I actually believe Gamel and Green could be excellent OBP guys in a couple years, so let's accelerate it. 1- 2B Taylor Green 2- 3B JJ Hardy 3- LF Ryan Braun 4- 1B Prince Fielder 5- CF Corey Hart 6- RF Mat Gamel 7- SS-Alcides Escobar 8- C Kendall 9- CC/Gallardo/Parra/Bush/McClung
  22. At least they aren't getting booed; so they can sleep looser.
  23. Gagne is a pathetic loser. We got whipped. Take it like men.
  24. How can Brewers season ticket holders sell out to Cubs fans and continue to allow them to fill the lower levels of the stadium? Why wouldn't you want to be at these games instead of selling your tickets? Do they actually need the money? Are these seats all corporate seats and Cubs fans get equal access? So disheartening to see so many Cubs fans in prime seating.
