As for the Jenkins comment.. let's wait until he is hitting better than .280 before proclaiming his greatness.. a blind man could hit .260 in front of Carlos right now... and with the amount of times he strikes out you could argue that might describe Jenkins.
You know it gets old defending somebody and the the body of evidence finally starts to wear you down. That is how I feel with Rickie... I want him to stay at 2B but make a throw please.
The other thing to not overlook is Damian Miller is the best hitting catcher in the NL so far this year.. another great signing by Doug Melvin.. With Melvin's history you almost say to start Brady everyday because if Doug signed him to 2 years he must know something. It hurt to type that last sentence but I have not evidence to the contrary.
I don't think Rickie has bad instincts.. I just think he is aggressive. and with 1 out I don' t see that as a bad gamble... no outs would be a different story..
An encouraging thing about this game is if you click on MIL OUTS on ESPN gamecast all the outs are up the middle so at least they are using good approaches even if they only have 5 hits..
The one nice thing about JDLR is that he can afford to let runners get on because he has such nasty stuff he can get out of it with K's.... Plus with the way the Brewers are playing D you need a pitcher who strikes out 2 out of every 3.. If they don't score here I think you let him go as many as 3 innnings today...
Is there a web-site somewhere that keeps track of what players fail to get the ball out of the infield most often? Brady would be top 5 in the league for that stat.
Watching the Brewers bullpen tonight reminds me of Rob Schneider's line as the football announcer in Unnecessary Roughness. "I really don't think it is the time to make sure everybody has played. Hey what about me I haven't played"
I think that the key to De La Rosa.. is easy if your Ned.. when he has a good outing.. then the next time you feel like using him absolutely stop yourself.. if Ned does that DLR might challenge Herhiser's record.
