  1. I've changed my mind. I'm willing to give up Escobar, Lawrie, Salome, plus one low pitcher. (Frederickson?) But, in my opinion, we can't give up Parra. It would still leave us with a huge hole. And in order to give up all that talent, we need to compete this year and next year.
  2. By the way, Lucroy's OBP is fantastic. He has a .246 batting average and a .365 OPS. I really like the 55BB/44K ratio.
  3. Dillard was only a single away from being as good as Manny Parra...
  4. Great game by Mark. I'd say the most impressive stat is that he didn't have any walks. Even when healthy, Mark Rogers still has to cut down on his BB before he becomes a very legitimate starting prospect.
  5. First off, welcome to the board. Thanks for sharing your insight. Secondly, there is no such thing as "ailing". That is the equivalent of saying someone "died of old age". Braddock is "ailing" because something is wrong and at this point - undiagnosed. It could be multiple things that the Brewers consider minor enough to save the MRI machine. (Such as slight inflammation, breaking up scar tissue, or a small strain) It's probably nothing serious. He asked Gord Ash. (Who oversees the medical reports) That is how I received the first report. See post #21.
  6. The Angels have expressed interest in Baltimore closer George Sherrill, and the Orioles had a scout at Saturday's game, but the teams do not appear close to a deal. The Orioles so far are asking for two top prospects for Sherrill. The Angels would like Sherrill to pitch the eighth inning for them, but not at the price of, say, Brandon Wood and Trevor Reckling. Los Angeles Times Rousieboy - I think you might have read the story incorrectly.
  7. If you've been following the situation and reading comments from the Pittsburgh GM - I would say Nate is probably correct. Snell is owed 4.25M next year. (Along with two team options years after that) You don't pay AAA players 4.25M. The GM has said several times that he regrets giving Snell that contract - refering to it as a "mistake". Now he has made comments on how Snell doesn't want to be in Pittsburgh and they don't really seem to want him back. Pittsburgh is just looking to get 4.25M off of the books next year.
  8. Old Couples. I love old people in general, but seeing an old couple in church renew their wedding vows for the 50th anniversary - that chokes me up every time. Any movie that involves one old person watching/caring/loving for another as they die - I always cry. (The movie "Up" choked me up pretty good)
  9. X - you can disagree without being condescending.
  10. Fernando Martinez is a 20 year old CF in AAA with a .877 OPS. He's a very legitimate prospect. This isn't an earth shattering proposal - but is isn't horrible. As Barbados73 stated, this is basically Escobar, Lawrie, Salome and Braddock.
  11. Is it possible to have a mutual respectful relationship (with kids involved) after a divorce? I've known several individuals who had a divorce sans children. They seem to be pretty quick and painless. There is obviously some lingering issues, but in the end - they both have completely moved on with their lives. Their previous marriage is an afterthought. However, every divorce with children always seems to end horribly. The former spouses always grow to resent each other - and the children suffer the most. I am just curious if anyone has gone through the process, if they would be willing to offer some insight and advice from their experiences. (FYI, I'm not getting a divorce. I also don't have any kids. I'm just dealing with some people close to me who are dealing with these issues)
  12. Ian Snell has a 0.34 ERA in four starts with Class AAA Indianapolis, but he has no clear course back to the Pirates, general manager Neal Huntington said yesterday, because of what Huntington described as Snell's desire not to return. "Ian has spoken publicly that he doesn't want to be here, and it's tough to bring back a player who doesn't want to be back," Huntington said. "There's no doubt he's gone down there and thrown well. Time will tell." Reached in Pawtucket, R.I., where he was with Indianapolis, Snell responded that he never said he had no desire to return to the Pirates, publicly or otherwise. Pittsburgh Post-Gazette This situation is getting very interesting.
  13. I hate trading for other team's closers. They are always overvalued. The Brewers have several relief pitchers already better than Sherrill - but because he gets the "S" at the end of the game, he has some magical value added to him. He has pitched very well this year, but last year he had a WHIP of 1.50 with a 4.72 ERA.
  14. I've always thought Yunel was a really good player. I've been curious all year as to why Atlanta was looking to move him. I was unaware that he apparently has an attitude problem. That said, it's very disappointing that Yunel is available. It certainly drives down the value of JJ Hardy.
  15. I received official word today from TH - straight from Gord Ash. I was told by Gord Ash today that Braddock has an ailing shoulder and they're giving it a couple of weeks to calm down. Certainly not the minor blister we were hoping for. On an aside, people rip on TH a lot. But I've always enjoyed his work. He also responded to my email question within a day. (His first response) And then asked Gord about about the problem - and emailed me a second time. I can't imagine what more you would ask of a beat writer. Big props to Haudricourt.
  16. I doubt many think Escobar can replace Hardy's offensive production. It all comes down the following equation for me... Escobar + $7M + Player Hardy is traded for > Hardy at $7M in 2010 I'd be shocked if Escobar outproduced Hardy offensively in 2010.
  17. I am amazed that anyone can dislike this trade... Gillespie had no future in Milwaukee. His ceiling, as mentioned, is similar to Catalanotto. It isn't hard to find those players. That said, why in the world did Arizona take him? They already have a really crowded outfield. It seems as though Heether would have been significantly more useful to them. I've never been much of a fan of Mercedes. However, I have to think Arizona saw something in him. 1. The Brewers can finally settle on a consistent line-up. 2. Gamel gets regular playing time. (Even if it is in the minor leagues) 3. We obtain protection for both Counsell and McGehee's knees. 4. We are very likely to obtain a sandwich pick worth more than Gillespie and Mercedes. Even if you hate Lopez - this is still a good trade.
  18. Anundsen ran into some problems in the 4th inning. 3 hits and 2 runs. Still his 6K through 4 innings is amazing for a control pitcher.
  19. I looked up Matthews yesterday as well. I knew he wasn't earning his contract, but I didn't realize his production had fallen off that badly. He has a .624 OPS. Bill Hall has a .592. Hall can play 3B, SS, 2B, and CF. Matthews can play CF. The difference is so small, even ignoring the money - I'd almost rather have Bill Hall.
  20. I emailed Haudricourt about it and received this reply... I remember asking Gord about it and I believe Braddock has some minor injury but I'll check again. Sounds pretty much like a best case scenario. (It would be nice if a moderator could update the thread title to indicate he is likely dealing with a minor injury)
  21. I'm a dedicated distance runner. Due to some problems with my back, I decided I should work some swimming into my weekly routine. After my first attempt, I have some amazing respect for swimmers. I watched a few older, heavier women swim laps around me. My entire body aches, all because of 2 1/2 laps! Looks like this is a bigger undertaking than I had assumed.
  22. I think adding Halladay (at the expense of Gamel or Escobar) would make the Brewers contendors in 2010. I just don't think Halladay makes a near .500 team in 2009 automatic contenders. I'd be much more interested if the Brewers were playing at a playoff level without him. So, while we would get him for 1 1/2 years, I doubt it helps enough in the first year. To me, the entire payoff would likely be 2010. (Thus, diminishing his value)
  23. Braddock's failure to pitch in 11 days a very large indication that something is going on. You are correct that we have zero indication that he has been suspended or dealing with off the field problems. However, we also have zero indication that he is injured either. I was merely pointing out that the lack of information opens the possibility to every other factor.
  24. I think it is safe to say something is wrong... Death in the family? Injury? Emotional problems? Suspension? There is just no way he goes 11 days without pitching for no significant reason. He had been pitching every 3 days.
  25. I think a few Power 50 editors might have been a little too excited about Arnett. Still no Braddock sighting. He hasn't pitched in 10 days.
