  1. Can we get any information about McGehee's defense in the minors? I know his defense this year hasn't been specatular - but all of the scouting reports had him as a very good defensive player. And Macha/Melvin has mentioned many times that his knee has really limited him in the field. Lastly, McGehee being an average defender is still better than Gamel has shown thus far.
  2. I love Mat. But McGehee is a really good defender. I agree he will be a better hitter - but you really have nothing on which to base the "better defender" comment.
  3. First off, by all means continue the Eric Farris arguments. Personally, if you are ranked 25 or 45 - I don't consider you much of a prospect. After the top 15 or so - you are really left with trade "throw ins".
  4. Entering last season the Indian's had Sabathia (former Cy Young), Cliff Lee (Cy Young last year), and Carmona (coming off a great season) in their rotation. They had Hafner, Sizemore, Martinez, Blake, Choo and Peralta forming a potent offense. With all of that talent and expectations heading into the 2008 season - their fall from grace has been EPIC.
  5. You can look here. I believe free agent status (A or B) is based on the two prior years - but I could be wrong. If that is the case, Counsell has no chance. Edit: For those two lazy to follow the link, as of June 17th - Kendall, Cameron, Lopez and Looper were all projected to be "Type B" free agents. Hoffman is listed as a "Type A" free agent.
  6. I think people are going to shoot that one down - but I kind of like it. However, I think you would have to be confident that you would want to offer Harang or Arroyo arbitration next year (a stretch) so that you aren't trading Hardy for no long term rewards.
  7. Too bad we don't have any day games... I'd love to listen in on Jones, Butler or Rodgers this afternoon. Very exciting starting line-up indeed.
  8. Do you think he is still a vegetarian?
  9. I'm really curious to see where Braddock turns up. He might have the highest ceiling of any player in our system. But he is also currently pitching out of the bullpen and still can't shake his injury bug. I'd have him #3 on potential alone - but I have a lot of faith in current medicine.
  10. There is no source... But I thought it was well pretty well known he stopped shortly after he started last year. (I think his wife still thinks he is a vegetarian.)
  11. Braddock returns(!) with a scoreless inning. One strikeout.
  12. Is it possible to have an entire season rained out? It would be nice if Brevard County actually played baseball once and awhile.
  13. Gamel might be able to net a 6-pack of Andrew Millers. Andrew Miller has burned through a lot of service time being below average.
  14. Peralta was sharp. Gamel starting to take off again. Good to see Ordorizzi again. Wooten gives up a run again. That is four straight outings with earned runs. Maybe it is just unfair expectations - but Lawrie has been a bit of a disappointment for me this season.
  15. Its really frustrating following the Minor Leagues and never getting injury updates. Prospects just completely fall of the map with no explanation. We went 15 days without figuring out what happened to Braddock - and actually, we still don't really know. I noticed Peralta missed a start too. Peralta, Braddock and Rogers are my three favorite minor league players to follow. Very disappointing to have two of them shut down.
  16. Highly unlikely. It's way to easy to continue the status quo. Brewer fans would oppose an additional tax on game tickets and parking - thus losing votes. There isn't much a vocal minority that would push for the "user fee" instead of the sales tax.
  17. Anundsen hasn't been having much luck lately. I wonder if he might be hitting a wall.
  18. I've just had a bit of a man-crush on Harang since he pitched 10(!) innings against the Brewers on July 23, 2007. I think Harang would be a very durable workhorse that would greatly improve our bullpen. His K/BB ratio is almost 3.5/1 this year. I would love to see the Brewers add Halladay or Felix - but I think players like Harang are much more likely.
  19. Apparently, I don't like Nyjer Morgan nearly as much as some. He is an adequate CF. The Florida Marlins are likely looking to move Cody Ross in the offseason. I think he could be an adequate replacement with very little cost. (I can't imagine him costing much more than a low level prospect)
  20. Heyman at SI.com speculates that Arroyo and Harang could both clear waivers and be had for next to nothing if you were willing to take on their salary. Juan Cruz would be an interesting option as well. I expect the Brewers to explore the overpaid pitcher's market more than the free agent market. I suspect with Cameron and Kendall coming off the books, they will invest some money in a Harang type or trade for an overpaid Kazmir type.
  21. I am surprised by the lack of interest in Bedard. When healthy, he is dominant in the AL. In the National League, he might be a top 5 pitcher. I think Bedard's situation plays out one of two ways... 1. Bedard takes a very reasonable 1 year deal to try and prove he is healthy before getting a bigger/longer contract. 2. Bedard is so injury prone that he holds out for a long term contract - fearing he might never get another long term contract. (Ala Ben Sheets last year) I'd be very interested in the first scenario. And, if he does opt for that route, he would almost certainly come to the National League.
  22. Because he had a .693 OPS last year. And got one year older...
  23. Have I really "ragged" on Arnett much? I believe I might have originally commented that he was too high on his initial Power 50. And I made a comment tonight about his struggles. I supported the draft pick. I just don't see his ceiling as high and others. At the very least, I think it is unfair to indicate that I have been unfairly hard on him.
  24. I'll be very curious to see where Arnett ranks in the next Power 50. His Helena numbers are far from dominating...
