    Why would you sign Ben Sheets instead of Bedard? Both are very talented. Both are always hurt. Except Bedard isn't coming off of a major surgery and missing an entire year. In addition, Bedard would take half a season before the fan's turned on him. The fans would boo Sheets by his second start.

    Brevard County with 11 hits. All singles. Logan Schafer was 2 for 5 with two outfield assists at home plate.

    Gindl is a better prospect than all of the players mentioned. However, Gamel, Escobar and Salome are better prospects than Taylor Green - and Taylor Green won a "Hitter of the Year". Generally, they ignore your "prospect" status and take the player who had the best season. Heether and Schafer would both make fine choices. It might be hard for Axford to win. While he was great, he moved up so many levels he never had much of an impact on any one level.

    I will be out of town for this weekend and have two tickets available to this game. The tickets are in Section 420 - Terrace Reserve - Front Row. This is also the Doug Melvin bobble head game. I'd LOVE it if someone would take this tickets and still provide me with the bobble heads. PM if interested.

    Braddock had a very rough outing. He recorded 2 outs (both strike outs), but gave up four hits (one HR) and 4 ER. I guess the good news is that he doesn't seem to have a problem throwing strikes. We have a lot of minor league pitchers with a high walk rate. Braddock threw 29 pitches with 22 for strikes. I care more about Capuano's comeback than I probably should. Our hitters, other than Schafer and Gindl, have been horrible. I'm starting to wonder if the Brewers will have any bats (save Ryan Braun) when all of the pitching arrives. I can't wait for the AFL.

    Bill Hall is batting .250 since joining the Mariners. He just had an 0-5 day with 5 strikeouts(!) while playing LF. Bill Hall must have negative value as a left fielder. If Seattle isn't willing to play him at CF, SS or 2B - I have no idea why they would have traded for him.

    Two years ago they were paying Counsell $3.4M to sit on the bench. I agree with you. But $1.4M isn't that big of a difference for a much better player. I believe Doug learned how valuable bench players can be this year - and the difficulties of plugging rookies into that role. (Heether)

    I'd imagine that Looper will have no problem finding a 2 year 10 million dollar contract. He might even get a 3 year 13 million dollar contract. There is no reason for him not to opt out. His worst case scenario would be a 1 year deal around 6 million.

    According to Fangraphs - Dunn is -30.2 defensively. Fielder is -1.0. Dunn is worth 1.9 wins above replacement. Fielder is 5 wins above replacement. That is a $14 million dollar difference. I can't believe Dunn is that bad. I'm not even mad - that just impressive.

    I hate the idea of trading Fielder. His commitment to weight loss and defense this past season has been fantastic. I no longer fear signing him to a long term contract. However, your entire scenario makes sense - but I am not sure it makes us any better. Seems to be a team pretty equal to this years? Also, I would imagine you would have to include a pretty good prospect to land Dunn.

    They clearly have learned that lesson in the past two years. CC would have signed with the Brewers for the same amount of money New York paid him. Unless you mean that the Brewers will never take the risk to sign a free agent in his prime? The Brewers are looking to build a consistent winner every year. Some years, when things are going good - they will make a trade and push towards the playoffs. Some years, when things are going poorly (losing your stud lead-off hitter, two significant injuries to your pitching staff, a RF with an appendectomy, and a young pitcher completely falling backwards) you hold the line. There is nothing wrong with the Brewers underachieving this year. If Weeks and Bush stay healthy - we would probably be an 85 win team. Melvin's biggest mistake was not having enough starting rotation depth to start the year. We needed a long-reliever who could actually perform as a #5 pitcher. Can anyone find the thread from when Suppan signed? I loved it. And honestly, I think it was completely necessary to legitimize the Brewers in the National League. Great post BrewCityUnit.

    Wisconsin might have the worst offensive prospects the Brewers have thrust upon any minor league affiliate in a LONG time. If Frederickson, Peralta or Scarpetta aren't pitching - they really aren't worth following.

    Unless the PTBNL is Arnett - I think the Marlins could find a much better offer. Personally, I'd like to go after Cody Ross for CF. He shouldn't cost too much - and would be a nice replacement for Cameron. I've suggested Andrew Miller before. Very good "buy low" candidate.

    I agree 100%. Assuming the Brewers offer Lopez arbitration. And Lopez turns it down. Being a Type A free agent actually decreases his chances of rejecting arbitration.

    It doesn't have to be. However, without a long term contract, Lopez is much more likely to accept arbitration. Which would mean the Brewers would be much less likely to offer arbitration. I think, as a Type B free agent, the Brewers will offer Lopez arbitration. As a Type A free agent, they probably won't risk having him accept arbitration. (Unless they move Weeks or Lopez)

    Has anyone in the Brewer's organization made a comment to indicate that Braddock is likely to be used as a relief pitcher? I keep seeing this type of comment posted - did I miss something? Until he was recently shut down, Braddock was pitching every 3 days - 2 innings at a time. Why does a regular rotation and multiple innings mean he will be a relief pitcher? If they wanted him to be a closer - wouldn't he start closing games in the minor leagues? If anything, I think they are just babying him because of his history with injuries. Until he was shut down, his development really wasn't that different than Mark Rogers. I don't think the Brewers would look to waste a talent like Braddock until he proved he couldn't handle the starting rotation.

    It would be horrible, IMO, if Lopez was a Type A free agent. No one would give him a long-term contract and give up a high draft pick for him. He would ultimately have to accept arbitration. Was there any player that signed a long-term contract this past year as a Type A free agent who didn't get at least $8 million a year?

    That team might be more exciting than Huntsville circa 2008. Its really hard not to be excited by Braddock. He is 2 years younger than Rogers. He is a level higher than Rogers. His numbers (other than IP) are better. And he is left-handed. For my money, Braddock is the most exciting pitching prospect since Gallardo.

    Do you think Cardinal fan's always wanted to trade away Albert Pujols? Prince in 2008 was pretty mediocre - and somewhat replaceable. Prince in 2007 and 2009 has been elite. If the Brewers are going to be contenders, we need to build around Prince.

    Casey McGehee = Joe Dillon? I would imagine McGehee is significantly hurt. Otherwise, he would be playing almost every day.
