  1. I guess Cleveland can have Taylor Green and Michael Brantley now. It looks like they chose wisely.

  3. The fifth guy on that list would make a pretty good starter! The only one I would think about is Balfour.
  4. Anyone ever done Napa Valley?
  5. My wife and I are looking for a really nice 3 night get-a-way in the US. (We don't have passports - only passport cards that allow us to drive or ship into locations) Can anyone share any really good short vacations they have taken. Our options so far... Vegas - We've never been. We aren't big on crowds - but it seems like we should try at least once. Not gamblers either. Where to stay what to do? Hawaii - She would love a tropical resort. We founds some really great ones that work into our schedule. But 14 hours of travel each way doesn't seem like a great use of our limited time. Cruise - We have been on and loved our cruise. However, we are kind of having a hard time finding a flight to go with the cruise. With only 3 nights, we would need flights that lines up perfectly. Key West/Sanibel Island - We've been to Sanibel island before. Seems to meet her tropical resort idea. Not sure of any great places to stay. We will be doing this in the VERY near future. So we really are looking for a great idea so we can book something today. Your idea's are greatly appreciated!!
  6. Thanks for the input thebruce44. I'll look into those software packages.
  7. I am on the Board of Directors for a Christian basketball league for high school students. We have been wanting (for years) to build a website. Back in college, probably about 8 years ago, I built a website using Microsoft Publisher and put it onto Geocities. (Remember them?) Anyways, as you can imagine, the task to build a website has been assigned to me. I looked into Intuit Website Builder, but in order to have a personalized URL and a half-way reasonable amount of data on the website it is at least $20 a month. (I can have 5 pages with no URL for $5 a month) Anyone have any other ideas before I end up paying $20 bucks a month for this project?
  8. Does anyone think baseball might benefit from less minor league teams? MLB teams can only expand so many resources at each level. The truth is, about 80% of the players at each level are pretty much gap fillers. It doesn't make sense for the organization to spend a lot of money or resources on Donovan Hand. It would make a ton of sense to spend a lot of money and resources on Mark Rogers and Jeremy Jeffress. But when your top 10 players are allocated to 4 different teams - how do you spread out your coaches and resources? If Odorizzi isn't receiving the best possible coaching, nutrition and conditioning possible in Class A Wisconsin, I would rather have him learning from better resources (presumably harder level) and failing at first. Maybe the Brewers should just have one affiliate (Double A - Huntsville) that has the best coaching and state of the art resources where all of the top prospects are assigned? Sure the younger prospects might fail a little at first - but I would rather have them learning from the best and failing at first than succeeding while developing bad habits.
  9. I noticed that Prince was missing as well. Very evident. Also, there is a big picture of Axford on the pull-out. Edit: Prince does appear in the Hoffman celebratory picture - but it is obviously a picture focused on Hoffman.
  10. Very imperfect, but... Greinke was 5.2 wins above replacement this year and 9.4 last year. Can we just average that and say he is about 7 wins above replacement? Parra/Suppan etc were all basically replacement level pitchers. So I could easily see Greinke adding 7 wins, which would put us at 84-78. Prince rebounding back to form and Hoffman not giving away a bunch of games could add around 5 more wins. With Greinke, I'd predict the Brewers right around 90 wins. That certainly wouldn't guarentee a playoff spot - but we would be in the discussion all year long. Plus, I'd like our chances with Greinke & Yo in any playoff series.
  11. I'd like to think that #3 and #4 type pitchers don't really cost $5-$10 million a year. Having to deal with Suppan & Davis, Brewer fans seem to over compesate by wanting to keep all young and cheap #4 pitchers to avoid Melvin making his same mistakes. Also, I'd much rather deal Gamel, Lawrie and Jeffress than Jeffress, Rogers and Odorizzi - but I'd be willing to do either. This is all with the assumption that trading for Grienke means we are keeping Prince for a year and getting two draft picks from him when he leaves to help replenish the farm system.
  12. Yes. As mentioned, prospects are a crapshoot. One of those players will probably never really contribute to the major league roster. One will probably be an average relief pitcher. You hope that the other turns into a #2 pitcher. All three have a ceiling around #2 - but very few pitchers in the minor leagues reach their ceiling. Grienke (plus Fielder) makes the Brewers playoff contenders. You don't know that Grienke wouldn't be open to a long-term contract. Assuming the Brewers lose Fielder to free agency, they will be flush with cash.
  13. I'd give up any 3 minor league players to get Grienke. IMO, he's that good.
  14. Not really - the rest of your relief pitchers get an automatic night off. We dealt with pitchers going 5 innings all year. At least we would be prepared for Rogers to go 5 innings and have Jeffress to back him up instead of burning through 3 or 4 relief pitchers. I think it would actually reduce the stress on the pen.
  15. The Brewers have expressed interest in returning Jeffress to a starting role - but he also has very limited innings on his arm. Neither him, nor Rogers, appear to need much more seasoning before they are MLB ready. Since it appears that the biggest obstacle would be the large innings jump for both of them as starter - can someone give me a legitimate reason why we shouldn't piggy-back them as starters? We would need 33 starts at 9 innings each for them for a total of 297 innings. Rogers can start and pitching approximately 160 innings and Jeffress can back him up with about 140 innings. I'd be pretty shocked if they didn't combine for an ERA under 5.00. Plus they would be working with the best coaches the Brewer have to offer against the best competition.
  16. I actually like Haudricourt. That said, I couldn't believe his tweets. I follow him and kept on checking back throughout the night to see if he came to his senses and deleted them.
  17. I usually agreed with Macha's in-game decisions. However, the players never seemed to like him. This report only confirms things we had been hearing during the season. I don't believe a manager has too much influence during the course of the season, so I'd just assume have a manager the players actually like playing for. Are Prince and Braun too cocky and arrogant? Probably. But I really missed the flare the team exhibited in prior seasons with untucking their shirts and a bowling pin celebration. Last year the Brewers were bad but exciting. This year they were bad and boring.
  18. I'm willing to trade Lawrie, and take one more shot with Prince. I don't expect the Brewers to be offered a significant package for Prince, so I'd rather enjoy him for another season and hope on some young pitching. However, a Lawrie trade would need to include a Weeks extension.
  19. colbyjack had me doubting myself! I went back and looked at the Pitchfx from yesterday's game. Jeffress hit 94 once out of 10 pitches. Most were 93 or 92 mph. I know I've seen him hit 97 as well, but for a kid who was suppose to be hitting 100 in high school, I've been disappointed.
  20. I agree with uwisfan. Escobar has a .287 OBP this year. Cruz is also a very good defender. I don't want him starting on my team, but for $400,000 a year - I'd say he is a pretty servicable back-up. Back-up shortstops with a .330 OBP are called starters. I really hope Gomez plays in AAA - but I have a feeling he might just be cut loose or traded. Schafer or Komatsu could skip a level and try AAA. In terms of pitching, I think Capuano will be back. He has probably been our most efficient pitcher. I'd love to see the Brewers use Jeffress and Rogers as piggy-backed starters - but it will never happen.
  21. I'd have Mark Rogers at #2. He has control issues - but no one has been able to put his pitches in play. He might struggle to go deep into games, but at least he is a starter. Jeffress is a good relief pitcher, but Axford is still likely to be the closer. Jeffress' velocity has been a disappointment so far. He was sitting around 93 or 94 mph on the stadium gun today while pitching in relief. I know it is a part of most minor league systems, but I grow weary of hearing about players "who might have to be moved".
  22. I don't believe Haudricourt follows the minor league or talks to many scouts about the Brewers minor league players. However, I think his reports provide great insight into how the Brewers feel about many of their prospects. Most, if not all, of his information comes from talking to people (such as Reid & Melvin) about the minor league system.
  23. I'm just sad that the Ray's have such a great, young and exciting team stuck in Florida. If Milwaukee had that team, our fan base, and Mark A as an owner we would win multiple world series.
  24. I wish the Yankees (and Sabathia) were coming to Milwaukee.
  25. I'm not 100% against the CJ Wilson idea. However, wouldn't the Brewers be better off trying to trade/sign the next C.J. Wilson instead of paying a lot for a new starting pitcher hoping that he can replicate his success? I suggested Balfour in another thread.
