  1. Wasn't Gomez originally a shortstop? Obviously it would be an emergency - but he might be able to play in a pinch. (About as often as Pujols plays 2B)
  2. Is it possible Hawkins starts the season on the DL? Also, if Gamel is still hurt - I believe he will be on the DL. It doesn't really matter, except that he will continue to earn a MLB paycheck. Hart is another candidate to start on the DL. I'm just pointing out that some players on the "bubble" might make the team for a week or two until the regular players get back.
  3. I went to a Columbus Crew game last summer. It is pretty affordable and very family friendly. It appears that they do a lot of marketing tie-ins with local youth soccer clubs. However, the best part was they had $1 beers! Any MLS team in Milwaukee with $1 beers will have no problem getting a sell-out.
  4. Excellent point. Very unusual - but I think it would be awesome.
  5. When we were getting U-Verse installed, I talked to the technician about 3D television. He had installed U-Verse at hundreds of houses and hadn't seen one with a 3D television - so I would expect the programming to take off any time soon.
  6. Sad. However, I'm assuming the Brewers (and maybe Branyan himself) think he can't play in the OF. He would have literally been just a bat bench - it's tough to hold a roster spot for someone who can't play in the field. Although, they tried years ago with Brad Nelson behind Prince Fielder
  7. Breakout: Shawn Marcum - I don't know that I expect his numbers to improve much over last year, but I expect a sub 3.50 ERA and for him to be our best pitcher in 2011. Disappointing: Zack Greinke - I'm very concerned about the expectations on Zack. He has only had one stellar year as a pitcher. By many statistics, Shawn Marcum outpitched him last year. After watching a lot of video interviews of Zack in the past two days, his personality scares me. He just doesn't appear to have the attitude to dominate. I believe there is a legitimate chance that Greinke is our third best starter - and that would be a huge disappointment for most Brewer fans.
  8. We would use two picks from Prince, two picks from Rickie and our own draft pick to reload our farm system. Not a bad fall-back plan. (Unless we use them on Cody Adams and Evan Frederickson)
  9. That might just be an overstated prize value as well. It would be unfortunate, as you would have to pay taxes on $3,500 for something that isn't nearly as valuable.
  10. How about CC finishing the game and Rock turning totally impartial and just yell "Yes! Yes! Yes!" over and over again? I also remember the bit of a rant from Rock at the end of CC (kinda) no hitter.
  11. I just went through our Power 50 and the dismal state of our farm system... It occured to me, that perhaps by trading our our farm for Marcum and Greinke the Brewers might actually be less likely to extend Weeks. Maybe the Brewers our counting on replenishing the farm system with picks from Fielder and Weeks?
  12. 1. You gentlemen did a splendid job on that list. I always appreciate the work. 2. That list is horrible. I am excited about one prospect - Mark Rogers. I think a few others might make an MLB impact, but that is all. I like Braddock as well - but by BA standards he doesn't count as a prospect anymore. 3. Josh Prince really fell of the face of the Earth. His numbers are bad - but as a SS and former 3rd round pick, I would have thought he could at least hang out in the 30-40 range. 4. Cody Adams, Evan Frederickson, Seth Lintz, Eric Arnett, Dylan Covey and Max Walla are really dragging down the system. Most agree with the trades to acquire Marcum and Greinke - but our system is in bad shape because of the number of draft picks that have flat out failed in the past 3 years. I'm depressed from typing #4.
  13. Whoa. I really liked Cain. But we are also really deep at CF with Komatsu and Schafer. Odorizzi is a potential stud, but you have to give talent to get talent. I never liked Escobar as much as other, even his defense was overrated. Jeffress has potential - but a year ago people wanted to give him away for free. Depending on a potential extension for Grienke and whomever is playing SS for the Brewers this year - I might love this trade.
  14. Is it possible with a new CBA in December of 2011 that they elimate draft compensation for free agents and we would get nothing for Fielder?
  15. I guess I should have stated that I can't believe how many people hate the idea of adding Pavano for 3 years, but think trading some of our best prospects for 3 years of Garza is a great idea. Garza is better than Pavano - but I'm not sure he is so much better than I am willing to part with the top prospects required to obtain him. Pavano just costs money. (And not even my money!) I would prefer Pavano & Cain to Garza & Gomez.
  16. Am I the only one who thinks Matt Garza is overrated? Everyone acts like he is "ace" type material. I'd like to have him, but I think he would be a #3 behind Gallardo and Marcum. So I am not interested in giving in too much. If we have to give up one of Jeffress, Rogers or Odorizzi - I'm not interested.
  17. The Blue Jays were just rumored to be inquiring about Grienke. Are they maybe looking to flip Lawrie?
  18. He had a better WHIP and BAA than Yovani did last year in a MUCH tougher division. He might challenge Yovani for #1 status. I think I might love this trade.
  19. If Lawrie is Braun - we gave up to much. If Lawrie is Laporta - we made a good trade. Lawrie posted good numbers, but as other have mentioned, since he likely wouldn't play a premium position, his top value was limited. Are we really losing a 25 HR corner first base man? Don't forget, Lawrie had several disciplinary problems in the minor leagues. He is a very poor defender. And no one has ever accused him of being a good teammate. I would say his chances of every being an all-star at 25% at best. I hope a Weeks extension is soon.
  20. From SI article on the AFL... Scout's take: "I might be going out on a little limb.... He is going to play in the big leagues and be a good player.... He swings the bat, plays the game, plays defense, has got a little flair but not too much.... Just remember that name: Eric Farris."
  21. I think Burnett and Joba both might be good "buy low" candidates. Burnett could see a sizable rebound as he regresses to the mean. Add in a switch to the NL Central and he could very well be a 4.00 ERA pitcher. That said, the Yankees need to pick up a lot of his contract.
  22. We booked for Napa Valley. I wish I had gotten the Sonoma idea before booking the hotel in Napa. I've heard from two other sources as well that they enjoyed Sonoma better than Napa. Oh well, I'm sure we will have a great time anyways!
  23. Trade Lawrie, Jeffress and Odorizzi for Grienke. Trade Braun for Clay Buchholz. Sign Jason Werth to replace Braun. 1. Grienke 2. Gallardo 3. Buchholz 4. Wolf 5. Narveson Weeks Hart Werth Fielder McGehee Cain Lucroy Escobar
  24. This is probably nothing more than a marketing ploy by Boras to get Fielder's name out there. He can't negotiate with any other teams, but if he was really just there to visit with Doug - why would they do it at the winter meetings? I'm sure Doug would have been happy to meet with them in Milwaukee.
