  1. Salome has medical issues that prevent a very large road block to him contributing to the Milwaukee Brewers. Jeffress has drug issues that prevent a very large road block to him contributing to the Milwaukee Brewers. Both have upside. I believe both have about the same shot of contributing. I think Jeffress is being punished for stupidity - while we are sympathetic to Salome's plight. I'm not sure I agree with Salome being ranked #9 while Jeffress is pushed all the way to #21.
  2. Arnett pitches one of his best games and receives poor reviews from the scouts. Shame. I had hope for Dykstra. Very disappointing to hear Goldstein's comments. Apparently everyone but Milwaukee Brewer fans know Lawrie is a horrible 2nd baseman. Might as well move him to 1st now. Pretty much the expected conclusion on Richardson. Talent - but a long ways to go. That said, Will Carrol from Baseball Prospectus was on 1250 AM this morning and was discussing the Brewers pitching options. He mentioned that Arnett could be pitching for the Brewers by the end of the year. So, at this point, I'm taking Baseball Prospectus with a grain of salt.
  3. That might just be how Melvin rebuilt a team in need of a lot of players. With a much better established MLB team, perhaps Melvin would be willing to trade Prince for one player straight up. Five years ago, we needed "bodies" much more than we do now.
  4. Stetter needs to be sent back down - Braddock can be the LOOGY and get out right hand batters at this point. Stetter just isn't doing his job. The Brewers seems dead set on keeping Suppan, so they might as well cut Vargas and move Davis to the bullpen. WHEN Capuano is called back up, he needs to be starting. If he is only a relief pitcher, his value is pretty minimal. We still have a few arms in AAA that could pitch in relief.
  5. Might play at Nashville? Or in extended spring training? I'd love to see Salome back in the box scores. He certainly adds some excitement to the Nashville offense - in particular, when Gamel and Salome are both back.
  6. I wonder how different things might have been for Salome...
  7. The best thing about the minor league, for me, is having a distraction when the Brewers are playing poorly. Tonight, the Brewers won. Which is good, because their were some less than stellar performances in the minor leagues so far tonight. Tough start for Gamel and Butler.
  8. That makes my day! It would be awesome if they let him close game, but I would be shocked
  9. I'm fearful that Bucci is getting lucky. His numbers just don't support that ERA.
  10. The Giants make a lot of sense. Madison Bumgardner would be a nice starting point.
  11. I'm with TooLiveBrew. Counsell should play 3B and let McGehee DH or play 1B. Of course, if the Brewers plan on winning yet this season - Counsell should be playing shortstop.
  12. Oliver Perez has been put in the Mets bullpen. They have also discussed sending him to AAA. Perez signed a 3 year $36M deal with the Mets after he posted his best seasons working with Rick Peterson. He is signed through next year at $12M a year. So for 2010 and 2011 he is owed $24M. Suppan is owed $12.5M this year with a $2M buyout. Riske is owed $4.5M this year. That is a total of $19M. Would you trade Suppan and Riske for Perez? The Brewers get Perez this year and next year for an additional $5 with the hopes that reuniting him with Peterson can turn him back into a serviceable pitcher. It certainly doesn't make the Brewers contenders - but it only costs $5M with some upside.
  13. Very true, but the Brewers certainly haven't made an effort to fast-track him either. With the Brewers need at SP, and their recent treatment of Butler, I would expect a more aggressive progression if the Brewers thought as highly of him as you did. However, you will certainly get the "kudos" if you are correct - because you've been banging the Rivas drum for awhile now.
  14. My biggest knock on Rivas is that he is already 24 years old. His results in the minors have been fantastic - even with a declining K rate. But I worry about projecting a 24 year old in AA as more than a 4 - 5 starter. Gallardo is the same age.
  15. I'm with DHonks. If the Brewers want to save their bullpen, calling up a 13th pitcher (as was the plan with Axford) to overuse doesn't help the cause. I'd prefer they called up another starter (Loe) to piggy back with one of our starters. That way the bullpen gets a day off at least 1 out of 5 games.
  16. As Briggs mentioned, Fielders price tag alone limits him to about 10 teams. The Rays are not one of those teams. They just can't afford his salary.
  17. Kentrail Davis is in a bit of a slump. I believe he is 0 for his last 16. He's been one of my bright spots thus far. And yeah, Lofgren has been disappointing to me as well. I was a big advocate of trading for him - but I just keep telling myself "He is a better option than Mike Burns"
  18. The injuries in the minor leagues this year have been unbelievable! I'm curious, once back, how many pitches he will be throwing per outing. I'm sure the Brewers & Jeremy have been doing their best to keep him in game shape - but it has been a long time since he pitched a real game.
  19. Dykstra was 2 for 3 with 2 SB in the first game. He is 1 for 1 with 3 BB in the second game. I can't help but cheer for him. Odorizzi gives up 1 run in six innings with 6 K - another very nice outing.
  20. If Capuano makes his re-debut at Miller Park - I'll be there to give him a standing ovation. In case you are looking for an update, through 7 innings he has given up 3 hits/2 BB and no runs.
  21. The Brewers tried trading Gamel this past offseason, they couldn't get anything decent as a return. (Even with Hardy) The organization isn't the only one sour one him - the entire league is. Gord didn't really question Lawrie's work ethic. But he definitely made a point, twice, that is was Lawrie's decision and not the Brewers to switch positions.
  22. *Sigh* Gord speaks the truth. With the recent failures of the Brewers pitching prospects - I wonder how much of that failure can be contributed to the instruction they are receiving while pitching in the minor leagues. Do the Brewers draft poorly at the pitcher position? Or do they develop pitchers poorly? It seems to me that if you are going to invest millions of dollars in signing bonuses, you really should have top of the line instructors working with your prospects. We have drafted several highly projectable pitchers (Jeffress, Fredrickson, Rogers etc) who have never harnessed their power. Almost every power pitcher in our system has significant control problems. Gord sounded pretty down on Mat Gamel. I still hold out hope from that amazing AA season - but his star has definitely dulled (fairly or not) in the eyes of the organization. Lawrie's attitude would not play well in Milwaukee. Milwaukee fans love hard workers.
  23. Riske got a rehab start in Brevard County and pitched a scoreless innning. Peralta pitched the next 7 innings and gave up 10 hits, but only two runs. That must have been a pretty high pitch count - but glad to see him picking up so many innings.
  24. From what I've heard, Oswalt wants to go someplace where he doesn't have to be "the man". He wants to be able to pitch with out all of the pressure of trying to carry a franchise. So I'm pretty confident he would not waive his no trade clause for Milwaukee.
  25. Braddock gives up 8 ER while recording 2 outs. I almost posted something after his last outing, but with such a small sample size - I didn't want to jump the gun. However, he has been trending downward. He had no walks during his first 4 outings. He now has 8 walks in his last 5 outings. He hit the first batter today. After a sacrifice, he gave up a bunch of ground ball (and infield) singles before walking two batters and finally giving up a 3 run home run. 90% of pitchers I would just chalk this up as a bad outing, but with Braddock - I just hope his arm is feeling OK.
