  1. I know the rules about double-quoting, but I pared it back. I just wanted to expound on this a little bit and wonder outloud if it may be more profitable for the team to reach the NLCS or WS, but not win it. Would the novelty of winning the World Series actually send the following season's attendence into 2.25M or 2.50M levels simply because the ultimate goal has been achieved? Or would the sale of WS Champion merchandise trump the lose of tickets the following season?
  2. There is a co-ed tournament being played at Konkel and the fields were unavailable. I am all for it, if guys want to get together. Perhaps Hales Corners or Whitnall Middle School. I already purchased and reserved the other dates.
  3. I don't know what else Yost is supposed to do with regards to these perceived lineup problems? You could juggle the lineup all around, but we've seen that tree bears no fruit (Braun 4th, Fielder 3rd,Hardy 7th,Kendall 9th,Cameron 2nd). This team has won 70 games and a majority of the time, it is with guys knowing their role and playing in a set position in the lineup without changing it up every day to accomedate 1 new face. As far as Craig Counsell at third base, I don't get the big deal. Until Doug Melvin moves up another infielder, it's going to be Counsell vs RHP. Branyan is now hurt, but he was our only LH pop off the bench for late in games and Bill Hall vs LHP or lefty relievers. Counsell's avg.OBP mirrors Weeks, but Weeks does have better SB potential once getting on, so hence he stays at 1 and Counsell at 6. Now, you could move Cameron to 6 and Counsell to 7, but again, now you are juggling two guys where Cameron has been productive right where he's at. I'm all for giving Mike Rivera an extra start or two a month, but that is it. Our pitching staff is the key to victory and Jason Kendall has been handling them well. This team is 10-3 so far in August and I don't see why there is this sudden itch to scramble for all these changes because the lower part of the batting order is :gasp: hitting below average.
  4. The Players Lot is located on the South side of the stadium, just south of the plaza and to the east of the adminstration lot. My own experiences are that players are more apt to signing before the game as opposed to after. After the game, the players generally leave in bunches or with their family, whereas on arrival, they are alone and have the look of being less busy. For a 7pm or 6pm start, I'd show up around 1:30-2pm. For a 1pm start, around 830am-9am.
  5. Hey Team, I just got home from the manager's meeting tonight and everything was very professional as expected. The schedule has been posted on the team website and that can be accessed at the following: http://www.softballtracker.com/team/index.php?team=1940 The site is kind of bland so to speak, but provides a lot of the information needed such as schedules, rosters, standings, and stats. I have player cards for all of you to fill out and would like to get 3 minutes with each player at Sunday's practice to get them completed. If you have your fees, that would be helpful to me as well. My deadline for turning in these fees and cards is August 28th. If you have a City of Greenfield address (work or home, try not to use Whitnall Middle School like a whole team did last year, if you lie, make it a relative's address or atleast believeable). Residents are $8 Non-Residents are $14. I still am on the hook for $180, but not a big deal at this point. If anybody wants to solicit an additional sponsor, I will add them to the jerseys and will additionally encourage the team to support them after a few games this season. The practice field rentals and other small odds and ends, I have taken care of. We have 13 players rostered and I have additionally allowed Kevin to be on standby status for Tuesday nights. I have put this team together with the goal of having guys that were committed to playing ball. I know Josh Hayes plans to be out the first week and as discussed before, your family engagements do come first. With that in mind, I won't plan on having check-in threads during the season, as I anticipate atleast 10 a night. I'd rather you just call me or email me at your first inkling that you won't be attending. I can be reached at the following 4 numbers. I have two cells (262) 613-5177 and (941) 962-5659. I can also be reached at my offices at Miller Park at (414) 902-4457 and my wife's cell at (941) 526-6346. My personal email is lcbarritt@msn.com. If you are getting nervous about the projected positions in the roster on the webpage, don't be. We have four scheduled practices to evaluate and work it out. I think we have a good talented roster and I will plan to bat all that attend. As for playing in the field, nobody will DH longer than half a game, unless by their own request for injury or illness. I will be having new jerseys for the season. I'm working on something exciting, but either way, they will be new. My offices got the MLB projected playoff schedule and the only conflict appears to be Thursday October 2nd. There are 2 AL and 1 NL games scheduled to be played that day. However, pending something dramatic, the Brewers will be the Wild Card and therefore on the road for that particular game. Any rainouts might drastically have some effect on things for the following week. Regardless if we are in the hunt for a softball championship, I won't begrudge anybody for missing any games that might conflict with a Brewers playoff game as me, myself and I won't be passing up something 26 years in the making for a 50-minute softball game. I think just about everybody is in for Sunday, so see you then! ~~Luke
  6. I've had verbal confirms from atleast 8
  7. He has two functions, he is a reporter with news articles and he is a blog writer with blog posts. The two should be seperate. One makes the papers, the other is on the internet. One he acts as a journalist and reporter, the other as an observer/fan. That's how I perceive it anyhow.
  8. Ignoring his career stats is actually doing him a favor http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif It's embarassing. Given Weeks career stats, is that who you really want playing 2b in 2009? Really? This team could do so much better. .245/.345/.409? Over 400 strikeouts in 1500 or so atbats? I guess I just dont see the love-fest and think it is mostly because of potential rather than results.
  9. I guess I just don't see the big deal. The Milwaukee Brewers, when considering positions to upgrade at the trade deadline, made an obvious point that it was 2B and SP that needed upgrades. That to me says a lot about the thinking of coaching and management. What Tom Haudricort wrote was basically in my opinion, "Hey Kid, it's time to get going". "The team has traded for a veteran and if you don't start improving your season totals drastically, there is another option waiting and able to take over." The Brewers didn't get a backup for Ryan Braun, they didn't go get a first baseman, they didn't get a shortstop, or a catcher. They went out and got a backup to the second baseman. I think that speaks volumes and Haudricort was simply over-stating the obvious. I dont think he even really dislikes Weeks, as I don't. He was just saying, "Hey Kid, do it now or there are now other options."
  10. I don't think you should take his journalism personally. Especially since these blogs are more opinion than the news articles. They don't appear in the physical newspaper and I've always found them to be observations/opinions rather than short news pieces. I personally always wish Weeks well and do point out when he does well. I think the team can do better over a full season in 2009 than the month or two of hot streaks that you believe most people don't give him credit for. It really comes down to what you want to believe regarding Rickie Weeks, the whole picture or bits and pieces that stand out as exemplary. Again, If Haudricort sticks to being hard on Rickie Weeks for his season, as a whole, and stays away from fighting w/ blog replies, than I have no problem with him.
  11. Ok, Ok. I wont turn this into a Weeks debate. But, are you seriously happy with Rickie Weeks and his production. You are absolutely correct, the draft is a crapshoot. But when you come out of college as a Golden Spikes finalist and hit around .500 with insane amounts of power and speed, don't you think we should be seeing better results at the MLB level, especially after going on 4 years now? Don't you agree that Rickie Weeks is underperforming to his potential? This team can do better at 2B in 2009. I applaud Haudricort for going out on a little bit of a limb and saying that they could even do better for 2008. I don't agree that he should be responding to specific blog comments in the tone that he is, but kudos to him for calling a spade a spade in regards to the play of Rickie Weeks. "Big Boy" was a bit of a insult, but seriously, it is time for Weeks to grow up and play like a major leaguer going on 5 years service time and time for his applogists to grow up a bit and not get their underpants wadded up over an opinion article.
  12. Haudricort vs TLB in a grudge match. Somebody get this done.
  13. Much agreed. No sense in letting the opponent know that your LH power bat isn't available. Though having been at MP the past week, Branyan did not take part in BP and rarely was out on the field. But again, no sense in making a big announcement. Just goes to show how slow our local press is in getting things out. Unless there is some gentlemen agreement 'tween front office and them.
  14. It is a picture of my then 3yo daughter. She was in the garage while her uncle started banging out the drums. Priceless reaction.
  15. Good luck and keep us updated. If you need help, speak up. This site is full of amazing people.
  16. Would that mean Cameron to LF then during Braun's absences? As far as I know TGJ doesn't play a corner OF spot, whereas Nix does.
  17. I agree on the Counsell batting 6th. And Tate, I love you more than most, but you are jumping to conclusions on the injury also. I put that on the doctor's and trainers, and even then with a grain of salt. If they keep saying day to day, day to day, day to day, what else is DM supposed to do? Risk losing Branyan for 15 days, when he could be good to go in 3? It's a tough position to be in.
  18. I also get what you are saying, but sometimes not jumping to conclusions is a good start. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  19. Very Nice assumption. Rants involving Counsell can now resume normal levels. LOL
  20. I can no longer complain about our bullpen. Boston blows a 10-run lead tonight.
  21. No, the game is called. Marlins win 4-3. The home team is ahead after 4 1/2 innings.
  22. I dont have a huge problem with it. The team could throw out it's bullpen to start the game at all the positions, as long as they win, I don't care who started where.
  23. Not only that, but Counsell batting in the 6th spot with premo RBI opportunities is struggling. Counsell batting 8th I could stomach a little easier.
  24. Nothing can quite top that Mets like collapse. No offense, but that was 7 games in 17 days. There are still over 45 games to be played.
  25. Just bumping this thread to announce that Baldelli has returned for the Rays today. In speaking to some of my Florida friends and fellow Rays Fans (they are my 2nd favorite team), Baldelli has been doing well through taking nutritional supplements and vitamins and that his mysterious fatigue like symptoms haven't re-appeared and he's done well in Spring Training. How exciting that he can be a apart of this unforgettable season the Rays are putting forth. Such an injustice that the Rays declined his option for 2009 already, but that is business. Here's hoping he can stay healthy and not pull a David Duval like exit from the sport.
