  1. Oh, so not literally entirely all "A" ballers. Nevermind me...carry on with the overgeneralizations that come with arguing on the internet. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  2. This rotation can't handle a posy schedule. We should be right back under .500 with those teams if not for a flukey hot streak in mid-May. This team is sellers, hope we can get something and get Escobar up here to get his feet drenched.
  3. Who had that idea? I don't think anybody here said that. I don't think anybody in the media proposed that? Where is this coming from?
  4. Not sure why they would send Gallardo, just to have him unavailable to play. Hoffman would be okay. Just a different animal this year with having to play the 4 game series and only 3 days rest. It's not even as if Gallardo's normal mid-start throwing day is Tuesday. But he deserves to be called an All-Star.
  5. So what you're really saying is that you'd rather have Bill Hall over Ryan Braun? Just want to make that clear because I just can't believe what I am reading. I think what Erin is saying is he prefers liars over truth-tellers?!? Maybe..No?
  6. I agree with that, but if you are the Brewers, you want to get to him now, while Boston has the depth and see him as the #7 guy in the "depth chart". Not the off-season when their other flux of moves "force" him to the rotation and therefore he costs more?
  7. To be fair, maybe that's just how the Blue Jays view the Dodgers situation, not neccessairly just "what they are looking for". "What they are looking for can change from team to team based upon the depths of those particular systems and what the Jays like on the different farm systems of that particular team. (Ie...nobody they want in the Dodgers farm system, but they like Kershaw or Billingsley, so they'll start there). Where perhaps with another team, they like a star prospect at CF or SS.
  8. I agree. Same goes for Mets fans in relation to New York. I have no problem with fans from the NE at all.
  9. I'm not that much concerned on sacrifices as much as pinch hitting to get the appropriate guy in that position. Spray charts and the magnitue of information out there should tell you 1st and 3rd, one out (late in the game needing run(s)), you pinch hit a fly ball type hitter for a Jason Kendall type hitter. Macha doesn't do that enough and it leads to GIDP's, at crucial times. Just a peave that feels like we gave away great opportunities to score a run. The bunting doesn't bother me, the failure to pinch hit does.
  10. However, if we now trade, say Gamel, Escobar, young pitcher for Halladay, we had better sign Hardy and Fielder long term, and hope McGehee isn't a fluke. Hardy is going to be in his final year of arby next year, so a long-term deal would be really expensive, and as you alluded to, Fielder isn't going to sign long-term unless something really changes. Honestly, in two years, our lineup could be 1B Errecart/Kjeldgaard, 2B a rushed Lawrie, SS Brewer, 3B Green, LF Braun, CF Cain, RF any of a number of people. Do you think Braun's yelling for help now... wait until he's part of that lineup. ~~Monty 57 A great post Monty. The only thing I want to point out is that I don't see a complete "prospect" lineup run out there by the Brewers in 2011 or whatever year you were projecting. While I think prospects are important, there will certainly be balance amongst the roster with whatever free agents there are after 2009...2010, etc. A truly great post, but there seemed to be no room left for free agents that will be an important part of the roster, not just home grown boys. That lineup could spell disaster and I know why you typed it as it was, but half that lineup sprinkled in with another half of good free agents (as it probably will be) isn't too bad. Which goes to support why you can "go for it" without sacrificing the future.
  11. Nice to have stats to backup what I've been upset with all season. I wish I had some additional splits like, "How often is this Jason Kendall", and "How often is this 7th inning or later". Because it sure seems like we GIDP late in games when it's obvious that a GIDP candidate is at the plate. I don't know how many times I've said to myself, "Here comes a GIDP" and then it happens. If I'm able to see the likelihood is great, why isn't Ken Macha? Very frustrating management all around when it comes to bench management and in game decisions and now the bullpen too. It's not a popular sentiment as many think he can do no wrong compared to their vehement dislike for Ned Yost, but I don't see what all the hoopla is about regarding Ken Macha. His inability to reasonably discern that a likelihood of GIDP could occur and failure to do anything about it drives me nuts.
  12. I tend to agree with 804sox. EVERY team has guys like Braddock, Odorizzi, and Periard at the low levels. That's why it's so hard to bank on them. Until they get to AAA and do it consistently over nearly a full season there, it's tough to get excited about them being the "centerpiece" of a trade. Even getting 5 of these type guys wouldn't compare to getting 1 Escobar/Gamel/Lawrie, in my opinion.
  13. I just want to say that I think Buchholz value goes down (not drastically or anything) when you have such depth at that position and have a need somewhere else. If Buchholz was so valuable, he'd be up in the MLB rotation. It's not that he's not valuable, he's just not valuable ENOUGH to the Red Sox THIS season. Same goes for Escobar and the Brewers. Now, when you have two teams that have such a need and two teams that have opposing depth, that's what makes this trade proposal equal. Buchholz, just because he may be a #1 to the Brewers, doesn't mean he should command trade value similiar to that of Santana, Halladay, Lincecum. His trade value is lowered because the Red Sox currently view him as the #7 guy on the depth chart. It's not as if he's not MLB ready, he is...yet he's still #7 on the depth chart. Escobar for Buchholz straight up seems fair, IMO. And if it's the Brewers that come asking, a A level prospect throw in might be okay too, because they are the ones wanting it more. Escobar may be the #1 SS for the Red Sox for 162 games in 2010, while Buchholz would max around 35 games. I think there is comparative value betweeen those two players given each organization's needs and relative depth.
  14. Was that neccessary for a thread though? If he was 5 for 17 (.294) , does that make the situation different? The opinion that the offense was part of the problem was very much a part of the original thread. Pointing out Braun's batting average, post comments, is kind of blowing air on a dead fire, since somebody pointed out, he retracted some of his statement and apologized for others. It's as if some people are watching him so close that god forbid he struggles for 4 games, well it must be the pressure of those comments he made! :rolls eyes: Braun's never gone 3 for 17, man, must be those comments! The offense has put the Crew in a position to win and I think Braun's done his job in the field. This reeks of just another "I told you so" to try and justify that Braun's comments weren't accurate about the pitching and that somehow it's his/offense fault for the team's success or lackthereof.
  15. Apparently, according to recent lashing from Gord Ash, wouldn't be hard to spot them in Huntsville amongst the 660 average attendance per game.
  16. Could Jack Z be aligning himself to acquire one of our SS (Hardy or Escobar)?? The Mariners now have nothing in the middle infielder healthy or capable of doing anything worth anything. Just a thought.
  17. I don't think you want to do that. Cubs and Cardinals fans are quite obnoxious. You'd be begging to go back to the AL east http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  18. A free agent could take over at SS. But to answer your question, I too would rather keep Escobar. He's more of what this team needs in that he provides speed and avg at the top of the order. We have a bunch of sluggers already.
  19. Wouldnt that put the Brewers payroll over 100M next season? Very unlikely, IMO
  20. No Hardy in '11, no Prince in '12 and no viable replacements other than Gamel who could be in any number of spots by then...3B, 1B, RF. I think that is an unfair assumption. It may very well be correct, by really unable to project that at this point. Maybe Hardy would have already signed a long term deal with they weren't asking him to move to 3b, who knows. With Escobar gone, maybe he feels secure and inks a multi-year deal? Fielder being gone isn't a forgone conclusion either. Some big salaries will be off the books by then and perhaps they make him the highest paid player on the team. There is also 3 off-season worth of free agency to worry about the future of 1b/ss by then.
  21. I didnt think about re-turning Halladay, but that is a very good point. I'd give up 2 of the top 3 for Halladay and would prefer to keep Escobar. Some other lower level prospects would be okay as well. McGehee seems to be able to hold his own, though we do lose a left handed power bat in Gamel and I'm not sure who the next left handed power bat is in the minors.
  22. Gamel with one of the best at bats of the night. I wonder if Macha was watching. That's why he continues to pinch-hit, because he has Macha thinking he's a good pinch-hit bat instead of a starter.
  23. Per mlbtraderumors According to media outlets who spoke to Ricardi today, he is looking for a MLB ready shortstop, making The Brewers, the White Sox and Phillies the favorites. Phillies, White Sox and Brewers, who all harbor chips in Jason Donald, Gordon Beckham and Alcides Escobar, respectively. Furthermore, Ricardi is looking for a little more than what the Braves gave up for Texieria (sp?). Traded by the Texas Rangers with Ron Mahay to the Atlanta Braves for Beau Jones (minors), Elvis Andrus (minors), Neftali Feliz (minors), Matt Harrison and Jarrod Saltalamacchia. I don't know what those guys were projected to do, but I hardly recognize a name other than Saltamacchia. If somebody could provide the Brewers equivilants to those guys, I'd be grateful.
  24. For the benefit of those not having tv access, can you describe your posts better than, "This umpire is terrible". I don't need a play by play, but something like, "This umpire's strike zone is baffling" or something to that effect.
  25. I realize it was Prince running, but I have no tv today, why did he not score on the Hart Single?
