  1. I thought it was the Cubs too, this article from ESPN says they have fallen off though. At least makes it interesting http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=5943925
  2. I couldn't find a thread on Brandon Webb, so feel free to move this if I overlooked one. According to ESPN's Jerry Crasnick on Twitter: http://twitter.com/#!/jcrasnick/status/17343400860712960 there is an unidentified NL Central Team that has made a late push for Brandon Webb. The Rangers and Nationals are the top two contenders for Webb. Any chance this NL Central team is the Brewers? Not that I think they should or will sign him but it's interesting that they mention it's a team that hasn't been involved with these rumors. So is this Doug making an incentive based deal to round out the rotation? Also, the Cubs, who were supposedly in on the negotiations, have backed off and are not involved anymore. Personally I don't think it's the Brewers, probably the Reds or Astros, but what do you think? In the end, where do you think he signs?
  3. Does anyone know when jersey shirts will go on sale at Miller Park? I'm coming back to the Milwaukee area for the holidays and know it will make a great Christmas present!!
  4. But I thought they were a "small-market" team...
  5. Haudricourt is Tweeting that there is a report that the Brewers have an agreement in principle with Bobby Valentine to be the next manager. Exact Tweet: "Bill Scott of Wisconsin Radio Network says Brewers have agreement in principle with Bobby Valentine to be manager. I'm looking into it." Obviously this is far from being a done deal, but if nothing else it is becoming fairly believable that Valentine is the 4th "mystery" candidate.
  6. Not a chance. The best comparison I can come up with is, would be if the Minnesota Vikings decided to retire Brett Favre's #4 if he were to retire next year. He had one great year, but did not get them to the Super Bowl or win a ring. Obviously, he didn't set any records so it is not the exact same but at the basics, it is similar. Brett Favre will be remembered primarily as a Green Bay Packer for achieving all of the greatness and wins and records. The same goes for Trevor Hoffman, he will be known as a San Diego Padre. I am not trying to stir up the debate on Brett Favre, that is not my intention. My point is that Trevor Hoffman will be known as a San Diego Padre. It would be a slap in the face to San Diego if Milwaukee decided to retire his number. Almost all of his saves were in San Diego and that is what he will be remembered for. When it all comes down to it, it just happened that Milwaukee had Trevor Hoffman for what ended up being a rounded off number of saves. I am not saying that 600 saves is not an unbelievable feat, because obviously it is. I think the Brewers should make some sort of small memorial to commemorate the moment happening in Milwaukee.
  7. Hey Everyone, I didn't know where to post this so feel free to relocate it if necessary. I'm heading to the game on Saturday but will be down in Milwaukee Friday night. I'm thinking about doing the Brewery tour and then heading to a bar to watch the game and grab a bite to eat. I'm not too familiar with the Brewer bars around Milwaukee. Does anyone suggest one to go to? Thanks!
  8. Hey Guys, I went to the game last Saturday where they were giving away the draw-string back packs. I thought I got their early enough to get one but by the time I entered they didn't even have the boxes set up anymore. Does anyone have an extra one or know where I can find them? They were very cool! PM me or reply to this if you have one. Thanks!
  9. My name is Joey Van Lieshout and I am the senior captain on the men's tennis team at the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse. As some of you probably know, last summer our team was slated for termination due to the statewide budget crisis. We were given the opportunity to raise enough money to get our team reinstated. We have raised enough money to temporarily reinstate the program, currently we are attempting to fully reinstate the program. Instead of having people just donate money, we wanted to be able to give something back to people that wanted to help. As a way to do this we are currently running a fundraiser with ESPN the Magazine. For $40 you receive a 2 year subscription to ESPN the Magazine. That comes out to only about 76 cents an issue which is a savings of over 80% from the newsstand price. I know many of you may already have subscriptions, but you are also able to renew your subscription through us (when you sign up, after your current subscription is over, you will begin the two year subscription immediately). Along with this, 75% of the subscription fee goes directly to saving the UW-L tennis team. This is a great way to get a great magazine for a good price as well as helping save our team. There are just a few things I need from you if you are interested: 1.) Message me your name, address and e-mail. Also include if you would like a renewal. 2.) I will respond and let you know where to send the check. 3.) After I receive your subscription information, a confirmation receipt will be sent out. ESPN will also e-mail you a confirmation once they have processed your information. Essentially all that is required of you is $40 for a two year subscription to ESPN the Magazine. Thank you everyone for your help and let me know if you have any other questions. PM me or respond to me here.
  10. I have been on the board with trying to not blame Macha for this teams bad playing the last couple of months.... but how obvious was it to take Coffey out after the 12th? I know we have three pitchers that pitched yesterday in the pen, but Vargas is a former starter so he would most likely be more effective than Coffey? Ugh, just when you think they may be turning something around
  11. Auction ends THIS WEEKEND!!!.... Please get your bids in! http://www.saveuwlmenstennis.com/online-auction.cfm
  12. From ESPN, Favre is headed to Minnesota to sign a contract tonight. What does everyone think of this? I think he is all about himself. He just throws organizations around and does whatever he wants to do. Real team player Brett!
  13. Less than one week to bid on the sports items. Take a look at the great memorabilia we have. The auction ends this Saturday, August 22nd. Visit: http://www.saveuwlmenstennis.com/online-auction.cfm and put in a bid!!!
  14. Monday night, luckily in a meaningless part of the game, Shane Victorino caught a sacrifice fly and as he was making the catch a fan doused him with a full cup of beer. Police arrested a guy that was taunting Victorino. It happens that it was not him and police are looking for the actual culprit. With Bartman and now this guy, Cubs fans just get a bad rap. Judging by the looks of this guy though, he looks like they typical Cubs fan that is not there for the baseball - looks like one of the rich college kids that know nothing of the game. http://www.the700level.co...e-catch-anyway.html#more
  15. Just an update, the chancellor has officially reisntated both the tennis and baseball teams at UW-L for next year. Both teams still need to raise money for the future, but it is at least reassuring that we have another couple of months to set some things up! Keep checking back at the auction website, we have some great items to bid on! http://www.saveuwlmenstennis.com/online-auction.cfm Get your bids in before August 22nd!!
  16. It would cost pretty much the same to run as an NCAA sport as a club sport. Except we would receive ABSOLUTELY NO help from the school financially. The only expenses for a tennis team are general uniform fees, some court time, travel expenses (vans, food, hotels - which are usually occupied by 4 players a room with a total of maybe 3 rooms where the football team for instance uses 2 to a room.) All of this would be paid straight from the teams pockets. I hope you all are able to help out in some way. The auction items are very nice and I hope you bid on them. I thanks all for your support. We are having a golf outing as well as a tennis tournament and dinner/banquet. This banquet is where the auction will commence. If any of you would be interested in participating in the golf outing or the dinner/banquet, we would love to have you. The weekend is August 22dna dn 23rd, it is fast approaching and we are really trying to get people signed up and it should be a good time and for a good cause. If you would be interested, PM me or e-mail me at Jofis11ep@yahoo.com. Thanks guys!
  17. Hey guys, I am on the UW-L Men's tennis team. Earlier this summer our team was cut due to budget cuts. We will be able to reinstate our team if we are able to raise a substantial amount of money. As a way to do this, we are holding an online auction on some very nice sports memorabilia. Some of the Brewers items include a signed Prince Fielder throwback pinstripe jersey, signed Ryan Braun ball, signed Prince Fielder ball, signed Yovanni Gallardo ball and a Brewers package which includes 4 tickets, 4 Metevante Passes, A preffered parking pass and a signed Corey Hart ball. There are also some nice Packers things such as an autographed Greg Jennings jersey, a signed Favre collage with pictures from the game after his father passed away, and a package including tickets. Ther are also some cool Wisconsin Badger things including a Ron Dayne signed jersey as well as a signed lithograph picture of Barry Alvarez that is signed. There is some other cool memorabilia as well. Check it out, the website is: http://www.saveuwlmenstennis.com/online-auction.cfm Let me know if you guys have any questions, thanks!
  18. Yeah, I will be somewhat frustrated if there is not some sort of response tomorrow. I am not talking about causing physical harm. I think the Brewers need to respond with some early runs or some pitches that come inside. After this, the Brewers cannot afford to have another beating and showing no emotion....they have to respond somehow or else, put a fork in them!
  19. They just reported on FSN that there was a medical emergency after the game in the area between the two clubhouses, that is why the security guards and medical personnel were rushing there. I think Prince was just frustrated and may have said a couple words after the game. Don't know if it was anything more or less than that.
  20. Yes, Macha is getting very annoyed and irritated with the reporters. I personally liked when he dragged on about the reporter who called Prince Cecil. "It's Prince, not Cecil. He was an all-star this year..."
  21. Haha, what? Where did you hear this? The last line on JSOnline game blog: "Sidenote: Fielder stayed on the field for a while before nearly sprinting down the stairs into the clubhouse. Don't know what to make of that other than he might be trying to talk to Mota." My friend texted me and said there was something but the cameras couldn't go in the clubhouse....
  22. I turned the post game off.... I heard Prince tried going into the Dodgers clubhouse or something crazy after the game? Is this made up or can anyone add some information on this?
  23. Per Mccalcy..... Suppan has a strained oblique. The same injury that Looper and Hoffman suffered from in Spring Training where they had prolonged absences. Looks like we may be missing Suppan and Bush from the rotation for a while. The back end of our rotation is going to be even more of a mess than it is right now.
  24. Please do not trade anything for the future.....we need pitching that can stay around and for awhile.... no Weeks, no Escobar
  25. Well that tie was fun for two pitches..... We have to hit the bottom soon, right?
