  1. That's the same thing that people said about the Brewers during the two decades of losing in Milwaukee. It's hard to be enthusiastic about a team when ownership failed for so long to put something competitive on the field. I'm sure there are just as many hardcore Pirates fans now as there were Brewers fans before Milwaukee finally turned the corner. We all now how that feels.
  2. 2-2 split Could argue either way for Cards or Dodgers depending on which team you think will win more games down the stretch. Rooting for the Dodgers to sweep. They have the hardest schedule in the NL the rest of the way and the Cards have one of the easiest. Plus, always root against the Cardinals, right? Excellent point.
  3. Probably a bit like this board did during the NLCS.
  4. I actually like using Ax there. An important situation against a good hitter, but early in the game so the pressure is dialed back a bit.
  5. No. You don't retaliate by loading the bases with no outs in the first inning.
  6. Wow, no Beltran or Holiday for the Cards, either. Takes the string of not having Braun out a little.
  7. This is the same dude who threw the fan out of Miller Park a couple years ago. Sadly this ump performance had to be expected.
  8. If I'm ever sitting next to Ron Roenike when he decides to bunt in front of Braun, he better hope I'm not on bath salts.
  9. Dennis Sarfate. Bookmarking this comment to reference the next time I ask : "Can it get any worse?" Clearly the answer is yes.
  10. I believe the definition of malice in regards to defamation is that there was knowledge that it was false or there was reckless disregard of the truth. Calibri;mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi; mso-ansi-language:EN-US;mso-fareast-language:EN-US;mso-bidi-language:AR-SA"> Braun could make pretty decent argument that there ESPN recklessly disregarded the truth if in fact all along it was his medication that caused the failed test. This is considering that audio interview that was linked in this thread with T.J Quinn who was one of the two reporters who broke the story admitted that he intentionally left out of his story the statements made by Braun's camp, categorically dismissed any of Braun's claims as false, and basically stated that the fact the MLB has never overturned failed test means that Braun is guilty. No. The ultimate defense for libel and slander is truth. You don't even need to get to the Actual Malice/Reckless Disregard tests. The fact is he tested positive for increased testosterone. He faces a 50 game suspension. His camp acknowledged both to be true. Here's their actual statement. In no way to they deny what happened, only that he will be exonerated as the appeal moves forward. If MLB has already dismissed the positive test and ruled that Braun will not be suspended, and ESPN reported only that he tested positive, then Braun might have a case. If he's exonerated by the MLB (and I'll believe that when I see it), his laywers won't even consider a lawsuit because it would be laughed out of court.
  11. This thread is the best thing about the Brewers off season. Hands down.
  12. Agreed -- all the best to Casey & his crew. Decent buy-low guy for the Bucs.I've got to say that I think this is a great trade for the Pirates. Casey was outstanding at the plate in 2009 and 2010 - I would happily give up a 31 year old right-handed short reliever with a a career ERA of 4.11 to take a chance that Casey's bat is what we saw in 2009 and 2010. I think this is an OK trade for the Brewers but I would have been a lot more comfortable had Veras been left-handed. I guess that's a sign of just how bad the market was for Casey.I'm glad that the Brewers are on the other side of these trades now instead of taking on guys that they hope will bounce back.
  13. I'm not a numbers expert, so i don't know how "valid" this analysis is, but this made me feel good about the moves so far (particularity the A-RAM move). Can't believe he'll be worse than Casey at 3B, but I guess we'll see come April. I'm cautiously optimistic (even with Braun's suspension for next year). http://espn.go.com/blog/s...ts-brewers-in-good-shape
  14. Sorry about the typos. I'm on my phone. All i can tell you is that I worked in the media and now I work in PR. ESPN cares about breaking the story first. That's it. Second, Braun's pr guys care about burrying the story. You don't think they'd rather have it on the scroll rather than nonstop Special SportsCenter. This was a genius play by his guys. By the time the major sports talk shoes will get a hold of this it will be 36 hours old, the Heisman will be handed out and week 14 of the NFl season will be all but in the books.
  15. The did 2.6 and 3.4 the last two years. That's pretty great for a Saturday night. Second, read the sorry. The reporter acknowledged they had to sources (the standard minimum if you're going to run an anonymous story) and Braun's camp released a statement on Saturday acknowledging the test. That made the story publishable. If anything Braun's camp released the statement tonight to bury the story (because it's the weekend and the Heisman is a big story that ESPN won't preempt. They knew it was coming out and wanted it to break at the most advantageous time for Braun, which this is.
  16. They wouldn't release it 25 minutes before a heisman ceremony that's already going to get good ratings because the winner is in doubt. They'd do it on a night when they have poker reruns or something else they could preempt.
  17. Yeah, it's just not worth it with a lefty on the mound and Molina catching.
