  1. These are the kind of deals I'm hoping for. Hopefully guys with value contracts with nice upside to give rotation/bullpen depth. Get a couple guys in the door for the same amount you would pay a guy like Lance Lynn or Arietta who would tie up a big chunk of money and be tough to overcome if they don't work out.
  2. Stearns built an unexpected playoff contender by getting the most bang for his buck in free agency and trades. Whether it’s because that’s his philosophy, he’s been told not to spend or he just think he has the Midas touch, I don’t see that changing this year. The moves by the Cards and Cubs could backfire and at the very least deplete their farm systems. I think it’s smart to wait and bring in a bunch of guys who you project to have bounceback seasons or seem like they just need a tweak in their delivery for the same price as Swarzak. His contract is not a bank breaker but there’s so much variation and unpredictability year to year for most relievers. Let desperate teams overpay and find the value among the players left when other teams run out of budget.
  3. Cardinals could have a good year with these changes, but right now they’re counting on Ozuna DeJung and Pham to anchor their line up and hit like they did last year. But if they regress, and older guys like Carpenter and Molina keep looking old ... it could get real ugly in St. Louis this summer. They will probably make more moves, but I’m underwhelmed. I live in STL, and people lost their minds last year when PECOTA came out with Cardinals at about 76 wins. It’ll be interesting to see those projections again this year after the hot stove is over.
  4. Interesting that he was top 10 on two different prospect lists for the Rangers this year. But, yeah Never Outhustled, 24 and AA doesn't instill confidence. I'll be interested to see where he lands in the Brewers systems and the comments from the team about why they wanted him. Other than the top-top guys they've traded for lately, doesn't seem to fit the low minors/high upside guy they seemed to have been going after. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/09/brewers-to-acquire-ryan-cordell-as-ptbnl-in-jonathan-lucroy-trade.html
  5. From @haudicout: INF-OF Ryan Cordell, who @Evan_P_Grant says is PTBNL in Lucroy/Jeffress trade, is currently rated No. 6 prospect in Texas system.
  6. Good for Hector Gomez, that's got to be such a cool feeling.

  8. I tell you what, Eli has grown a lot on me this series. How many other Brewers K on that 3-2 pitch?
  9. May have pulled garza after one hit 70 pitches to pinch hit over bay with 2 outs and a guy on first in a 2-0 game.
  10. This might be worse than Burrell/Shouse.. might be. I was thinking more along the lines of Nick Stavinoha HR on one knee.
  11. I hope they leave Ron in St. Louis. Who didn't see this coming except for him?
  12. If this backfires ... At least we know Mark A has fired a manager during a playoff chase before
  13. So, I'm not trying to put words in your mouth, but that is not a benefit to the Brewers. Do you believe that this will put an end to the Cardinals hitting Brewers batters? That's what I'm asking, and no one will say "yes, I think hitting Holliday/Adams in the back of the hand and risking injury will actually change the way the Cardinals play". That's what I'm asking, and no one will actually affirm that. (I suspect because nobody believes it to be true). So again, what actual BENEFIT will we get? Will they stop throwing at Gomez? No. So what have you gained? Except maybe a suspension, and a further beanball war? I believe you must do something to protect your players. It has the best chance of working. Doing nothing has not worked. I don't want to see Gomez boil over and take it into his own hands.
  14. Ok, so tomorrow, we're up 10 - 1, and you bring in Kintzler, who drills Holliday. What have you proven? I want to know what tangible point have we proven? That we'll play tit for tat? You know how this goes. You KNOW that this will NOT result in the Cardinals ceasing to hit batters or pitch inside, so I'm asking, not sarcastically, what tangible benefit the scenario you're laying out will provide. That if you continue to risk injuring our players by throwing up and in, you risk your players getting injured in retaliation. If they were hitting him with breaking balls in the thigh and back I wouldn't have the issue of retaliating. But they,re coming in and high. Retaliating feels like the only thing you can do. Not reacting hasn't stopped it. Scoring Gomez hasn't stopped it.
  15. Know who agrees with you? Tony LaRussa. http://www.stltoday.com/sports/baseball/professional/birdland/la-russa-unplugged-on-brewers-throwing-at-pujols/article_25757c72-bda9-11e0-aa2b-001a4bcf6878.html Forgot about that one. That whole thing truly secured my hatred of the Cardinals.
  16. Gomez has been hit by Cardinal pitching in the last 4 games against them. Whether or not you agree with payback, this is not an acceptable trend, and it needs to be addressed. Whether that means retaliation or addressing it to the league is not up to me, but it needs to be addressed. Yes. You put it much better than I did. Thank you.
  17. Man I feel bad for Pacer fans. Hope he comes all the way back from that.
