  1. Got out of it with almost no damage. Looks like it'll be a short night for Seth, though...good thing the bullpen is pretty rested. Edit: I <3 COREY <3. Tie game!
  2. Well I was totally expecting Braun to strike out there, letting Blackburn K the side in the first inning...I'll definitely take a 2 out double in front of Prince. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  3. Did FSN seriously just play an Irish folk song in the background while Brian and Bill were talking about Seth McClung? That's awesome. McClung has to be the world's largest leprechaun. Edit: That Trenni/Cirillo interview outside of the Dome was painfully out of focus. I wonder which TV Production 101 class they pulled that camera guy out of...ugh.
  4. True, should've said that they had a chance to move into first. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif They'll try to avoid falling a full game back tonight.
  5. No thread from Woogie yet, so here goes: Milwaukee Brewers (43-35, 3rd NLC) @ Minnesota Twins (43-36, 2nd ALC) http://images.sportsline.com/images/baseball/mlb/players/60x80/390779.jpg Big Red - RHP 5-3 3.79 ERA 44 K 25 BB 83 pitches per start 54.2 IP http://images.sportsline.com/images/baseball/mlb/players/60x80/1262918.jpg Nick Blackburn - RHP 6-4 3.68 49 K 15 BB 87 pitches per start 93.0 IP Brewers Lineup 2B Rickie Weeks SS JJ Hardy LF Ryan Braun DH Prince Fielder RF Corey Hart 3B Russell Branyan 1B Joe Dillon CF Mike Cameron C Jason Kendall The Twins have won 9 in a row since taking a series in Milwaukee earlier this month...they're now 12-3 in Interleague Play. With a win tonight, the Twins will move into first place. Edit: Since the White Sox won against the Cubs, the best the Twins can do is stay a half game back. Here's to hoping the Crew can pick up another game on the Cubs. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  6. While it's true that anything can happen, I wouldn't count on the Brewers duplicating what Arizona or Colorado did last year. There are things that stats can't predict, and times that predictions are inaccurate, but that doesn't automatically discredit the stats. If the stats weren't right most of the time, people wouldn't be paying attention to them to begin with. I do agree, though, that the best thing to do is just keep playing the games without much concern about what's going on around the league.
  7. I absolutely love the Richard Jefferson trade. Ship out Simmons' contract and let him sit on New Jersey's injured list all year, and let Yi go to his big market and flop. RJ's coming off one of the best years of his career so far, and he's not even 30 yet. I like this move so much that I wouldn't be against keeping Redd for another year and letting them play together. I think Bayliss would be a nice pick; basically a cheaper Mo Williams. Kevin Love would be a nice pick, too, but I doubt he'll get past Memphis at 5. I wouldn't be against Westbrook, since he seems like the kind of guy who can give you solid defense and score a decent amount. Alexander seems like a nice guy and the rare player that would want to play in Milwaukee, but I don't think he'll be much more than a solid 6th or 7th man in the NBA -- apparently a lot of people see him as the kind of guy who has all the talent in the world, but once he gets into the game, he can't seem to figure it out. It should be interesting to see how this plays out, to say the least. Maybe they trade out of the pick and pick someone later in the first round.
  8. Hopefully the White Sox can at least steal one game from the Cubs this weekend considering the series will be at The Cell instead of Wrigley. Then again, it'll practically be another home series for them.
  9. The Astros have put Chacon on waivers in order to give him his unconditional release. His contract will be terminated without pay if he's not claimed by Monday: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3462337 That was one quick indefinite suspension, huh?
  10. A 73-page thesis on just how stupid intentional walks are, especially in the bottom halves of extra-innings. Maybe a decree from the higher-ups that profanity can be used for the next 24 hours. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif Cubs have closed the gap to 11-3, heading into the bottom of the 8th.
  11. Tigers win on a bases-loaded walk...the Brewers will at least pick up a half game on the Cards today. Hopefully the O's can finish the job.
  12. 7-0 Baltimore after 4 innings. St. Louis/Detroit still tied at 1 in the top of the 9th.
  13. The Cubs/Orioles game is on WGN, for those interested. Looks like Marquis is pitching for the Cubs, so hopefully the O's can scrape together enough to get a series win.
  14. Damn. At least Suppan got out of it with the score still tied.
  15. Weeks heating up...I like. Maybe the Brewers need to send him to the DL every couple weeks just to keep him hot.
  16. Speaking of unhealthy obsessions, I think Bill gets butterflies in his stomach whenever he mentions Mike Rivera. We get it Bill, you were a backup catcher. None of us can possibly know how hard the life of a backup catcher is. Ugh. I like early leads, though...nice double for Rivera. Is it just me, or has there been a ton of balls flying over the heads of Braves outfielders? Are they all really that bad at judging the flight of the ball?
  17. What are the odds that Brian's love for Craig Counsell will reach Daron Sutton-David Eckstein levels by the end of the year?
  18. I believe the Brewers are only something like 2 games behind their record last year on this date -- the difference, of course, is that last year the Brewers had a 7 game lead on the division, and this year they're in third place. The insanely hot starts of the Cubs and Cardinals probably also contribute to this recent stretch flying under the radar a bit.
  19. I don't think Ben owes the Brewers anything or has an obligation to accept a lesser deal just because he got hurt the past few years. It'd be nice if the Brewers got to keep him, but he has the right to test the open market for the first time in his career. If he chooses to go somewhere else, no hard feelings. I have confidence that guys like Gallardo and Parra will step up in his absence.
  20. Will the Cardinals ever freaking lose? How can they just go on the road and start mauling the hottest teams in the AL with half their team on the DL? I'm convinced Tony La Russa has sold his soul to the devil for one last World Series run...this is getting ridiculous.
  21. A series win in Atlanta's pretty sweet. Gaining a game on the Cubs is a bonus, but I would've preferred if the Cardinals remembered how to lose. Hopefully Suppan can bounce back from his bad start and pitches well in the series finale tomorrow.
  22. With the All-Star Game including the DH this year, though, there's a chance that the NL might take 4 first basemen. Maybe Prince could find his way onto the "Last Vote" ballot if he gets left off and he keeps hitting like this, though.
  23. I think it's unfair to expect anyone to hit 50 home runs in a season -- it's definitely possible that last year was the best year that he'll ever have. It's probably more fair to expect him to be in the 30-40 HR area every year, with maybe a few years of 45-50 sprinkled in if everything goes right (like last season)...kind of like a David Ortiz-level of production. If he can get his OBP to last year's level while slugging somewhere between this year's rate to date and last year's, I still think he could be an MVP candidate even if he never touches 50 HR again (since that award seems to rest solely RBI production in the eyes of the sportswriters).
  24. There's also a lot of people who are just fans of Ken Griffey, Jr. and know this could possibly be his last All-Star game. Junior is the kind of player that has fans across the league that will vote for him. I also think it's harder to catch the leading vote getters in the outfield, since you're voting for 3 players instead of just one -- how many people (not necessarily just Brewers fans) do you think voted for both Braun AND Griffey on the same ballot, essentially negating any votes Braun would gain?
  25. I think Brian hits the nail on the head here. I know quite a few Braves fans who wanted Bobby Cox fired a couple years ago, and they still see him as one of the most overrated managers in baseball history. Dodgers fans are less than thrilled with Joe Torre's managing style. Reds fans are sick and tired of Dusty Baker (although they pretty much knew what they were getting into at the start of the year). A decent percentage of Cubs fans hate Lou Piniella's bullpen management and obsession with the hit and run. I'd be willing to bet that fans of any team that had high expectations at the start of the year are griping about something their manager did recently. Don't get me wrong -- I'm not a huge fan of a lot of things Yost does, either, but I don't think it's that ridiculous to think that he could easily be Bobby Cox's replacement in Atlanta.
