  1. Looks like the Brewers are going to be witnesses to history again tonight...with one strikeout, Randy Johnson will move past Roger Clemens to gain sole possession of the #2 spot on the all-time strikeouts list. If he gets the win, it'll be career win #289.
  2. I tend to agree with this. If it weren't for the Mets blowing a 7 game lead in September, the national media might still be talking about how the Brewers choked away the Central. Thanks to Willie Randolph, though, most of America outside of the NL Central seems to have forgotten how bad the collapse in July/August was. Last year is going to stick in my mind for a long time, and I'll forever be paranoid with the Brewers in first place. It's kind of like how the Red Sox had a 10 game lead on the Yankees in the AL East last year, and their entire fanbase couldn't stop worrying about how they'd end up losing the division. They eventually did win the division, but there was a lot of hand-wringing in September. If I ever live to see the Brewers hold a 15 game lead over the Cubs in August, I'll probably be the same way. Thus is the nature of a Wisconsin sports fan, I guess. I agree with Russ, though...from now on, I'm just going to assume that the Cubs won that night. I'm sure it'll make Brewers wins a lot sweeter if I'm not worrying about not making up games. As long as the Brewers keep winning series (especially those against the Cards and Astros), they'll work their way into the wildcard picture by the All-Star Break, and it'll be a fun 2 1/2 months to the finish. When you haven't been to the playoffs since 1982, you can't be picky about how you get there (and if recent history is any indication, it might just be better to make the playoffs as a wildcard, anyway).
  3. It sounds like a Daron Sutton-given name, but I could be wrong. I have no idea if he had that nickname prior to coming to Milwaukee.
  4. http://www.maplecreekart.com/images/Brooms.jpg First sweep since the second series of the year against San Francisco...incredible. Bring on the Diamondbacks and their slew of lefty pitchers.
  5. Geoff Jenkins hit a game-tying pinch-hit HR for the Phillies today, too. Looks like even former Brewers are crushing the ball today. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  6. There's a K from Russell -- it's an official 3TO game!
  7. Complete lack of patience by Braun there. We needed baserunners. I do love that Braun grounded out before Brian could finish his lovefest on Braun's RBI production, though.
  8. Nothing like burning up the Astros' bullpen on getaway day.
  9. 3TO!! 9-1 in the 4th... ...I love today!
  10. BRAUN GONE!! The Brewers have hit for the cycle as a team in the first 4 innings. Nice.
  11. 2 basestealers thrown out for Kendall...pretty impressive considering Ben is so slow to home plate.
  12. Lately it seems like Ryan has been fouling off a ton of pitches and having long at-bats that way, even if the count never gets past 1-2. He definitely could become the kind of player that keeps fouling off bad pitches until the pitcher gives in and grooves one to him, but that's not to say that I don't want him taking more walks, too. The more baserunners getting on ahead of Prince, the better.
  13. Win tonight and get this godforsaken month behind you, Brewers. Lineups from TH: Brewers 2B Rickie Weeks CF Mike Cameron LF Ryan Braun 1B Prince Fielder RF Corey Hart 3B Russell Branyan SS J.J. Hardy C Jason Kendall RHP Ben Sheets Astros CF Darin Erstad 2B Kaz Matsui SS Miguel Tejada 1B Lance Berkman LF Carlos Lee RF Hunter Pence 3B Ty Wigginton C Brad Ausmus RHP Brian Moehler
  14. Isn't Prince also listed an inch shorter than he was last year, too, though? I seriously doubt the guy shrunk an inch over the winter, and I equally doubt that he weighed 260 last year.
  15. Didn't the Brewers have something like a 7 game lead on the Cubs on July 1 last year? I'd be more worried about having to jump three teams to get to first as opposed to just the games back, but that's why I think this weekend's series against Houston could go a long way in cutting down that gap a bit. The Cubs are definitely an improved team over last year, but I don't think they're the best team in baseball. They'll come down a bit, but they'll still probably win 90-ish games. The wildcard probably is a more realistic goal for the Brewers, but right now they need to focus on climbing back over .500 and at least leapfrogging the Astros. As far as the Brewers not having the pitching staff to make the playoffs goes, may I remind everyone that the Phillies made the playoffs last year with a rotation that prominently featured Cole Hamels and a pile of scraps?
  16. I've always been a fan of A.J. Burnett. When he's healthy, he's done really, really well...the only problem is that he's gotten the same "fragile" stigma that's been stuck on Sheets recently.
  17. Good chance to catch up to the top half of the division in this series. Hopefully Parra can bounce back from that rough start in Washington and flash a little more of what he did a couple starts ago. Just throw strikes, plz.
  18. Branyan was merely taking the opportunity to gain their trust before ripping their hearts out on the playing field. Now that he has Brocail's guard down, I wouldn't be surprised to see 3TO take him deep in this series.
  19. Home Run distance estimations are always fishy when it comes to the road teams...you get the feeling that the club doesn't want a visiting player to hold the record, and it's not just the Brewers that "tone down" the distance on visiting teams' homers. I'm sure Prince's 470-foot blast in Houston last year is a conservative guesstimate since he was a visiting player. If Lance Berkman hit it, they'd probably say it went over 500 feet.
  20. Yeah, let's show the Yovani Gallardo collision again, because we haven't been tortured enough this afternoon.
  21. Back to back sac flies...6-3! Edit: I clearly didn't think that through, since the running miscue came with 2 outs. D'oh.
  22. Sedar had the clear stop sign on for Fielder, so Prince stopped at third like he was supposed to. Hart must've assumed that Fielder would be able to score, since he didn't look up until he was about 20 feet from third base. He basically walked into third as Prince tried to go home, but he was tagged out about halfway down the third base line.
  23. And now they double switch Hart out? I guess that's the white flag.
  24. This team is epically bad on the basepaths...how does Hart not realize that Prince held up at third there?
  25. Nice double play! Branyan is the Manyan.
