  1. Incredibly frustrating to watch Prince right now.
  2. Nice job working out of a little mini-jam, Benny. I was scared Nady was going to hit another 3-run homer off Sheets.
  3. After yesterday, every time the Pirates make contact I hold my breath and wince a little bit. It's going to take awhile to get over that one. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  4. So, how long until Borowski is brought in for a workout and signed, a la Tavarez? This move was a long time coming -- the only thing that kept him from getting DFA'd sooner than Turnbow with the Brewers was the ridiculous amount of saves he lucked into last year.
  5. Personally, CoCo's first blown save in Texas last year is the one that sticks out to me. If I remember correctly, he hadn't blown a save all year coming into that game, and proceeded to give up 4 or 5 hits in a row (I don't think he got the chance to record an out). It sticks with me for a couple reasons -- for one, it was pretty much the start of their June tailspin last year; secondly, it was on my birthday. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  6. The Cubs and Cards play eachother while the Brewers play the Pirates. There's a decent chance the Brewers could be in second place by the start of next week.
  7. I figured this would be a good place to post this one: http://www.fangraphs.com/lgraphs/280703129_Brewers_Diamondbacks_89287798_lbig.png I don't even have any more words to vent. I think the graph says it all.
  8. Where's that old "Guillermo Mota for Closer" thread? Remember when he still struck people out? Those were fun times. Mota ticks me off when he loads the bases every time he pitches. Shouse ticks me off when he had one job to do and ended up hanging a slider on the only pitch he was able to throw to Tracy. And with all of this, Gagne is the one that manages to put up a perfect inning. Who would've thunk it. I can only hope this game ticks the team off so bad that they give the Pirates the beating of a lifetime this weekend. I'll still have a sick feeling in my gut the rest of the night, though, and I don't even think Lincecum shutting down the Cubs could fix that. Hopefully they can still catch the second place by the All-Star break (definitely possible because of the Cards/Cubs series this weekend), but losses like this really stink.
  9. Mota's not the only one to blame, and a couple of those runners were on infield hits. Shouse had one stinking job to do, and ended up giving up a 3-run double on the only pitch he threw. Toughest loss to swallow so far this year for sure.
  10. Jeez, the ball is really carrying in Arizona today. Every flyball (by both teams) has been pretty close to the warning track, if not on it.
  11. I typed this before knowing he hit a homer. He's like a test-tube baby combination of Alex Rodriguez and Ozzie Smith, with a little bit of Derek Jeter's clutchiness thrown in.
  12. HARDY BOMB!!! Can the guy get any hotter? Edit: Holy crap, Hardy even broke his bat on that one and still hit it 4 or 5 rows deep in the bleachers.
  13. Hardy saves Rickie's butt that inning -- that was a great diving stop and the throw to Weeks was right at the chest. Pretty impressive.
  14. Cameron got caught in a rundown, but stayed alive long enough for Manny to make a break to second base -- the D'Backs were able to sniff it out and barely get Manny out at second on a close play.
  15. He reminds me of Delmon Young in the last Twins series. Just annoying. He's like a cross between Delmon Young and David Eckstein...he's been insanely hot all series. How has this inning been for manufacturing runs, Mr. Schroeder? The Brewers aren't scoring by relying on home runs or hits!
  16. Words cannot describe how annoying Orlando Hudson has been this series.
  17. http://www.cariboufoot.com/photos/mikes_photos/mugatu.jpg J.J. Hardy. So hot right now. Hardy...so hot.
  18. According to Brewers Live last night, Braun apparently has a hand injury that's causing Ned to hold him out of the lineup for the last two games of the series, letting him get some much-needed rest. Apparently it's been bothering him since Atlanta, but he's been playing through it -- it doesn't sound like anything serious, but it looks like the Brewers are taking the chance to give Ryan a couple mental health days. I have no idea what Prince's excuse is -- it seems like he's lost all patience at the plate trying to bust out of this slump. He popped up some pitches last night that were obviously balls. If he'd go back to being patient, he'd eventually get something good to hit. His average dipped under .270 last night, and it looks like he's trying way too hard to bust out of the slump with a homer or two (with that said, he was robbed of a pretty sure RBI single by Chris Young last night).
  19. I don't know what to expect with facing Webb -- I'm afraid of it being another Kevin Slowey Experience. Hopefully Manny can go back to keeping the walks down and pitches well this afternoon. With Lincecum facing the Cubs, this could be a good chance to pick up another game on Chicago (although I'm still more concerned with catching the Cards).
  20. I was thinking more along the lines of 27, or so. I also have no doubts that if Braun beats out Fukudome, Cub fans will be screaming conspiracy. The next thing we know, there'll be an HBO documentary with Cub fans digging through the garbage at MLB headquarters, looking for the counted ballot ticker-tapes.
  21. I don't know about the final tally, but MLB.com had an article yesterday about the final day of voting, and they said Braun and Fukudome were a virtual tie, with the two switching places multiple times heading into the final day of online voting, which is typically the day they get the most votes. I don't think anyone will know until TBS flashes the graphics on Sunday, although I'm sure ESPN will try to steal TBS' thunder sometime before then. The ultimate irony would be that Braun hits a game-winning home run for the NL, giving the league home field advantage in the World Series -- only to see the Cubs, who can't seem to win on the road, make the World Series and win in 7 games because of Braun's HR in the All-Star Game. On a scale of 1-10, how much would that suck for Brewers fans?
  22. I love the transaction icon being included in the thread title. Seriously, though, how many times a day do you think A-Rod wishes he went to Boston instead of New York? 15? 20? Sure, he wouldn't have as many clubs to go to, but the tabloids wouldn't be breathing down his neck every second of his day.

  24. I wonder if Braun will be the first player ever to strike out at the home run derby. Seriously, though, it'd be fun to watch him in it. Hopefully he'd fare better than Prince did last year in San Francisco. I'm not too worried about him possibly messing up his swing, since his home run stroke seems so natural to begin with -- I don't think he'd need to modify his swing to do well.
  25. Shouse came in to face Chad Tracy, I believe, and Melvin countered by pinch-hitting with Reynolds -- Ned was pretty much forced to keep Shouse in the game. I was pleasantly surprised with how the Brewers managed to score runs in each of the last 4 innings -- not bad considering they started the first three innings without getting on base at all. McClung did his best Claudio Vargas impression last night, and it looks like the Diamondbacks still haven't figured out how to hit with RISP even after all their troubles with it last year. I was also surprised at how quickly the D'Backs fans turned on the team -- when Cameron hit in the tying run in the 7th, you could hear a lot of boos, and the boos pretty much continued when Qualls walked off the mound at the end of the inning. I suppose fans tend to get grumpy when their team is in the middle of a 2-month freefall from "best record in Majors" to "under .500 but still leading the division".
