  1. I'm really terrified of the negative consequences of having Bush pitch into the 8th inning in his last start. Reminds me of last year when Claudio Vargas was great in 8 innings in St. Louis and then got lit up the rest of the year. I'm not disagreeing with Ned keeping Bush out there in his last start (he had a freaking no-hitter going and was cruising along fairly easily), but I am afraid of Bush's arm still being a bit fatigued. When you add in his road struggles, it might get really ugly. Prove me wrong, Dave. Please. Taking the first two games in Atlanta would be incredible.
  2. Wow, I didn't realize that Prince was only 4 HR away from 100 already. Interesting stat that Fielder and Francoeur are 1-2 on the list of most homers by a player under the age of 25 on the pregame show...Prince has 96, Francoeur has 70.
  3. The Braves have the best home record of anyone in the NL not named the Chicago Cubs (27-12). This series is definitely not going to be easy...hopefully Sheets and the Brewers can get a win to start off the series so we're not still hoping for one on Wednesday.
  4. I'd be ecstatic with a 5-5 road trip. They're going to be playing 3 teams that are good-to-very good at home, the travel schedule has them criss-crossing the country (Milwaukee to Atlanta to Minnesota to Arizona), the bullpen was worked pretty hard at the end of the homestand, and Arizona always gives the Brewers a hard time at The BOB (it's still weird hearing it called "Chase Field"). 3 or 4 wins are probably likely, 5 wins would have me pretty excited, and 6 or 7 wins would put me in such a state of euphoria that I would black out for a few days.
  5. Weeks had two fly outs today that were scalded off the bat but hit right at the outfielders. If those dropped in (or if one of those even dropped in), would we be talking about how he had a horrible game? He had a couple bad plays in the first few innings today, but did a very good job of turning all of those double plays and had that nice spinning stop in the 7th. I also a remember a nice effort to keep the ball in the infield early in the game -- he didn't get the out, but I was pretty impressed that he even got to the ball. He even drew a walk in the 5th inning with two outs that kept the inning alive and allowed Hardy to drive in Kapler to give the Brewers a 4-3 lead. It was an okay first game back, in my opinion. I still believe the hits will come eventually this year...he might never be a .280-.300 hitter, but if he can keep his average around .250 or .260, he has a chance to post an OBP in the high .300's, which would be great at the top of the lineup, especially since it seems like he always ends up scoring when he actually does get on base. Counsell played well while filling in for Weeks, but I don't think he should get more than 1-2 starts per week (day games after night games, Hardy's weekly game off to keep his shoulder fresh, etc.). I just wish Ned would stop hitting him leadoff when Rickie's not in the lineup (although I will admit there aren't many other attractive options, but that's why Weeks is there to begin with).
  6. Sabathia's definitely an interesting idea, but even with big contracts coming off the books next year, I don't think the Brewers will have enough to sign him. You have to remember that guys like Prince are going to get huge raises in arbitration (Prince could be making anywhere between $7 and $10 million next year, pending the arby case/deal to avoid arby), so that perceived $30 million or so coming off the books could dry up quickly. The Sabathia idea might be a thing to reconsider after the All-Star break...if the Brewers get within a few games of the Cubs for the division lead or jump into the wildcard lead with a week or two to go before the deadline, maybe I'd feel better about it. Right now, it's far from a guarantee that the Brewers will even catch the Cards, let alone the Cubs.
  7. How many times has Shouse done the splits like that after a pitch? Hopefully he's not actually hurt this time...he went off the field limping a bit. The last thing the Brewers need is another bullpen injury.
  8. Way to give me a heart attack, FSN/WMLW. That looked gone from that camera angle.
  9. Braun walks for the third time this series...he must've read the thread about him in the Major League forum. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif How about a nice 3-run shot, here, Prince? Edit: Dang...K. Hold the lead, here. I assume Shouse is going to take Huff and Mota takes it from there?
  10. I'd love to see some insurance runs tacked on before Guillermo Mota takes the mound. Base hit for Billy against a righty...it's a borderline miracle!
  11. Even though he hit the wall at about 90 pitches, it was another solid start for Seth. Now Shouse just has to get one stinking out to get out of this with the lead still in tact.
  12. It'll be interesting to see if McClung can get through the 7th unscathed. A day of rest for the bullpen after last night would definitely be a plus. Edit: Guess not. Salazar crushed that one...yikes. Now the top of the order's coming up. Hopefully Seth can get that last out.
  13. How do you get thrown out by Ramon Hernandez? Counsell must be slow as molasses. Wasting leadoff walks on crappy steal attempts really sucks.
  14. WOW...Hart crushed that ball. An early 3-0 courtesy of The Hitman is always nice. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  15. True, I was just curious because I was hearing 2-3 and that Piniella was planning on getting him 2 starts before the All-Star break. No big deal. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  16. Hey now, let's not sell the Pirates short on that deal. They also got Jose Hernandez!
  17. Cubs lead 11-7 with 2 out in the 9th, and the White Sox have guys on 1st and 3rd after an RBI single. Lou Piniella pulls a Ned and brings in Kerry Wood to "close" the game with a 4 run lead and a win virtually guaranteed. Nothing like unneccesarily burning through your bullpen in a meaningless interleague series when you have a win virtually in the bank. A home run doesn't even tie the game yet. Edit: Wood gets the strikeout, and the save even though he had a 4-run lead and threw like 5 pitches. Gotta love the save stat.
  18. With the bases loaded, Carlos Marmol nearly hits Alexi Ramirez in the back with a pitch, but Ramirez spins out of the way. The pitch gets to the backstop, so a run scores, but Ramirez grounds out on the next pitch. Take one for the team and keep the inning going...ugh.
  19. White Sox get a run back on a Pierzynski single, 10-5. This is starting to remind me of last night's Brewers game.
  20. Where did you hear that he'll miss 4 starts? I saw that they put him on the DL, but the MRI said there was no structural damage, so it didn't seem like it'd be that serious. Then again, Ben Sheets had "no structural damage" last year, too. I guess we'll see, but I'd be surprised if Zambrano misses that many starts. Knowing the Cubs, though, they'll probably score 12 runs in each of the starts he misses so Sean Marshall or whoever they call up to make his starts doesn't have to pitch under much pressure.
  21. 8 runs in the bottom of the 4th for the Cubs, and still only 1 out. Edmonds, Fontenot, and Ramirez have all homered, and everyone else is scoring on singles to right field. When Mike Fontenot -- a smaller, scrappier, crappier Eckstein -- hits a home run, you know your team is divinely blessed. Len Kasper is getting plenty of chances to sound like Kermit the Frog today. Edit: Edmonds homers again. 9 runs in the 4th.
  22. It was definitely a tough loss, but the Orioles have the best bullpen in the AL for a reason. Hopefully the Brewers can hit the O's starter hard again in Game 2 and avoid giving up 6 runs in the first 2 innings. I was pleased with how the Brewers never gave up even though Suppan had a horrible start, and they were extremely patient throughout the game. The LOB were tough to swallow (especially those last 3), but at least it's a sign that they're starting to get on base. Even Braun walked a couple times, didn't he? As long as they keep getting guys on base, the runs will eventually come.
  23. Yeah, I thought some of Suppan's pitches could've been called strikes, but Liz is all over the place...not much controversy over his pitches being called balls.
  24. To be fair, the only Brewer playing really bad was Suppan. The bats came out swinging in the bottom of the first inning, and with the way Liz was controlling the ball in the first, I'd be surprised if they don't touch him up for a couple more runs before the night's out. If DiFelice can put up a few 0's, the Brewers might be able to crawl back into this one.
