  1. On the bright side, that certainly could've been worse. It's nice to see the real Wes Helms shows up every once and awhile. Edit: Just how many chances are the Brewers planning to give the Marlins to turn a 5-4-3 DP?
  2. Being athletic enough to play CF and actually being able to are two different things. Ugly play.
  3. You could almost hear Villy saying "Don't get hurt! Don't get hurt!" to himself as he made his way home there...ugh.
  4. It's frustrating that Hendrickson clearly isn't sharp tonight and the Brewers haven't really taken advantage of it. It's not like he's been pitching well, which has been the case most of the time during this slide.
  5. Well if you're going to walk the leadoff hitter, you might as well do it on 4 pitches.
  6. Have the Brewers gotten Hanley Ramirez out yet in this series?
  7. I hate Dolphins Stadium. At least they managed a baserunner in the first inning.
  8. In my opinion, it'd have to be something really, really bad, for DM to do it because firing Ned would basically mean conceding that the season is over and they have nothing to play for. 10 games under at the All-Star Break would be my guess, unless he publicly disgraces the franchise by pulling an Ozzie Guillen or something. Of course, an Ozzie situation would never happen in Milwaukee because the sports media is too spineless to actually ask a tough question every once and while, but that's a different topic.
  9. I don't know what the official offer was, but it was less than Molitor was making with the Brewers at that time -- Bando was actually demanding Molitor take a pay cut because he was "just a DH." The Jays ended up giving him something like $13 million over 3 years, which was still a pretty big deal back then.
  10. As long as the Cards are the 2007 Brewers, I'm totally fine with that.
  11. Nice play by JJ to get Soup out of the inning. Looks like the Marlins did their best Brewers impersonation that inning.
  12. The first pitch Braun takes is strike three down the middle. Heh.
  13. 84 degrees in Miami tonight. Hopefully the warm weather warms up the bats a bit. Rickie had a decent first AB...they need to be patient with Olsen.
  14. Theriot is like the Cubs' version of Tony Gwynn Jr. He'd be a serviceable -- if not good -- back up option, but he's not a guy you want playing every day. A lot of Cubs fans realize this, and they'd probably prefer to see Ronny Cedeno in the lineup instead. He's definitely gotten off to a hot start, but he did the same thing last year before severely fading away by the end of the season.
  15. I think the Brewers would be better off keeping Gagne as the "closer", and using guys like Torres and Mota to get out of tough jams in the 7th and 8th innings. Who would you rather have come into the game with the other team having runners on 2nd and 3rd and trailing by one? If Gagne keeps pitching the 9th, at least he starts the inning with no one on base.
  16. It was definitely one of the roughest weeks I can remember, for sure, but it was just one week. If the Brewers end up winning the Florida series it'll go a long way in giving the team some momentum heading home to face the Cards and Dodgers.
  17. I have no idea if they did or not, but I would guess no -- PECOTA still has the Brewers averaging about 88 wins this season, which is pretty much where it was with Yo still pitching if I remember correctly. The non-PECOTA adjusted report is a lot more grim -- they lost 15% over the past week, while the Cards gained 14% and the Cubs gained 1%. This early the postseason odds are pretty much useless, but they're still fun to look at and at least the PECOTA-adjusted projections provide a little optimism on a gloomy off day. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  18. Baseball Prospectus still says the Brewers have a 45.6% of making the playoffs, with only the Mets (69.8%), Cubs (67.1%), and Diamondbacks (61.7%) ahead of them. The sweep at the hands of the Astros had little effect on BP's postseason odds for the Brewers.
  19. While he didn't know that the Cubs hadn't won the World Series in 100 years, it doesn't mean he was completely ignorant to the majors. The fact that the Cubs had been scouting him for something like 5 years before he signed there leads me to believe that Chicago wasn't going to give another team any chance at signing him...Fukudome was theirs all along.
  20. The Cubs just lost 2 of 3 to the Cards. They've lost 3 series in a row and are 3-6 in their last 9 games. The Brewers are far from the only team struggling right now.
  21. Well, they've never played well at Houston to begin with...at least the last game was close in the end. Cameron's played well for the most part since coming back. Hopefully getting out of that Loony Tunes ballpark will make the Brewers' pitchers look competent again.
  22. Dusty Yost making another appearance...does Ned hate his bullpen that much that he's going to make Sheets throw 130 pitches every start?
  23. I'm pretty sure a Ben Sheets RBI double is a sign of the apocalypse.
  24. Most of, if not all. It's being assumed that the Brewers aren't going to try to rush him back this year, because it could lead to more injuries down the line, whether it's re-injuring the knee or hurting his arm while trying to compensate for a weak knee.
