  1. 160 games of meaningful baseball, which is more than this team has seen since 1992. This year is hardly a failure.
  2. We weren't complaining when we were facing an equally horrid Cardinals offense. The Brewers didn't take care of business, and it looks like they missed their chance..there's not much use in crying about how the Reds are sending out the Louisville Bats when we couldn't sweep the Memphis Redbirds. Just finish the year strong, guys, so we won't be miserable all winter. http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/wink.gif
  3. I would guess that they already did speculate on what would be available and decided to retain Coop because they couldn't find much. That's kind of how I feel about Yost...if the Brewers do fire him, I'd be worried as hell that they wouldn't find anyone better out there. Congrats to Coop, though...he definitely deserves a shot. Hopefully he does well, since Houston's ownership seems to be the type to fire at the first sign of trouble.
  4. It's generally believed that if the Padres need a win on the final day of the season to secure a wildcard or division title, they'll pitch Peavy on 3 days rest. Considering they only have a 1 game lead on the Mets and Rockies heading into today, it's looking like that will be the case.
  5. It'd be pretty sweet if win #82 came on the same night that Capuano's dubious "losing streak" comes to an end. It'd take a borderline miracle to make the playoffs now, but I'd still like to see the Brewers finish strong to end the year.
  6. I'm actually hoping Yo starts at least 2 more games after this one... http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/wink.gif I should've said last regular season start. http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/laugh.gif
  7. Get back on the horse, guys. San Diego's been struggling lately so it's not impossible to take this series. Just start with Game 1...here's to hoping Yo's final start is a good one.
  8. http://deadspin.com/assets/resources/2007/09/cubsticketsws.jpg Link: http://deadspin.com/sports/chicago-cubs/looking-fate-in-the-eye-and-scoffing-303765.php Man, the Cubs are *really* tempting fate here. This is definitely bound to end well for the Cubs
  9. This stinks, but it's not like it hands the series to the Cubs on a silver platter. They still have Phillips, Encarnacion, Valentin, etc. It just really stinks that the entire Reds starting outfield (Dunn, Hamilton, Griffey) is done for the rest of the year.
  10. I love the new MLB.TV commercials, especially the Mariners.com one. I'm getting a little sick of that trailer for the movie that looks like a baseball version of "Hoosiers", though.
  11. Not nice baserunning, there, Bill. Looper played dumb like it was going past him and got Billy in a rundown. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  12. Holy crap, a hit and run that actually works! Nice job running, Billy, and nice basehit right up the middle, Damian. Billy almost could've scored if that ball rolled any deeper in the outfield.
  13. Nice defense, Suppan! Could've had a triple play if there wasn't already 1 out...definitely cool.
  14. #49 for Purple Rain! One more and he's the youngest ever player to hit 50.
  15. 3 ground balls, 3 outs for Suppan in the first...very nice to see. I like Suppan as long as his pitches aren't hit in the air. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  16. They should really just rename it the "Manager of the Most Surprising Team of the Year." Bob Melvin from Arizona looks like he'll be a lock to win it this year, but I think Manny Acta deserves a ton of credit for the job he did with the Nationals this year...they were supposed to be historically bad and they probably won't even finish in last place in the NL East.
  17. The only way the Yankees begin to think about discussing Joba or Hughes is if you throw in Sheets *and* Braun. After the mess the Yankees got themselves into a few years ago by dealing away their entire farm system, they will not part with their top prospects for just Ben Sheets, even if he is capable of being a Cy Young pitcher when healthy. I would hate to see Benny go to the evil empire, but I could live with it if they could manage to nab Robby Cano. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif (not going to happen, either, but I do like Cano). Kenny Williams is due for his idiotic trade of the year...how about Sheets to the White Sox for Bobby Jenks? http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/laugh.gif Or how about to the Tigers for Andrew Miller? The Tigers could stand to share some of that starter prospect wealth.
  18. CoCo's definitely making his impending departure this offseason a lot easier to take. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif Tough loss this afternoon. Still some time left, but the Cubs need to start freaking losing.
  19. For what it's worth, Daron used to do Angels games on FOX every so often in his last couple years in Milwaukee. Good for Brian, though...it's always nice to see "our" guys getting a little more national exposure (Matty V, Sutton, BA, etc.). I think the recent run of Brewers announcers calling a few games for the Mothership says a lot about the quality of guys that the Brewers hire for their TV coverage.
  20. http://americanhistory.si.edu/dynamic/images/news/image_1_15.jpg "But I don't want to be a Pirate!"
  21. The Brewers won the coin toss against the Cardinals, but lost the coin toss against the Cubs. There were also a bunch of other coin tosses to determine who would host a playoff if the Brewers were to tie for the wild card (Colorado, Arizona, LA, San Diego, etc.). The thread where all of that was discussed is here.
  22. On the other side of that overplayed ESPN coin, whenever the Brewers are in a collective slump they use the phrase "Strange Brew." Both phrases are irritating and stopped being clever in May.
  23. Watching a lot of games on MLB.TV, I can also attest to there being a lot worse out there than Brian and Bill, even if they do annoy us sometimes. The guys in Houston and Pittsburgh sound like dinosaurs that would rather be anywhere but the ballpark watching the game, let alone calling it. My favorite thing about Brian is that he won't try to yell over the noise of the crowd like Daron always used to. With Daron, if the crowd got loud, he would scream even louder to make sure he was heard...Brian just lets the crowd tell the story if the crowd is ridiculously pumped up (like the final AB of Sheets' CG on Opening Day, or when CoCo saves a big game at home). While it seemed like Daron had more genuine interest in the Brewers' success, I pretty much stopped buying into that when he made a run for the money in Arizona the first chance he got instead of sticking in Milwaukee...Brian also seems to be a much more genuine guy on camera instead of some character, like Daron seemed to be at times.
  24. Now finish it. The finished quote makes me laugh everytime.http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/laugh.gif "I gotta go...my damn wiener kids are listening."
  25. To quote Homer Simpson on the Cardinals: "That team sure did suck (today). They just plain sucked! I've seen teams suck before, but they were the suckiest bunch of sucks that ever sucked!"
