  1. Morgan is Pierre Stupid swinging bunt ribbies Pierre is Morgan
  2. Bush struggles in 6th Hits for self, faces one guy Don't really get it
  3. Excellent first three innings from Manny Parra. Jordan Schelling noted an interesting difference in Parra's performance with Lucroy catching, as opposed to Kottaras: With Kottaras: 1-2, 10.89 ERA, 19 ER, 16 IP, 28 H, 5 HR With Lucroy: 1-2, 4.18 ERA, 13 ER, 29 IP, 29 H, 4 HR Small sample size, but he definitely looks more comfortable tonight.
  4. Seems like it's just a day off for Dunn, at least according to the Nats writers I follow on Twitter. I think it'd be funny if they saw Corey Hart get hurt last night and decided they should maybe give Big Donkey a couple days off this week.
  5. So Adam Dunn isn't in the Nationals' starting lineup. Interesting.
  6. Bumping this to note that according to CBS Sports, Sheets has re-injured his elbow. Scott Miller notes in a tweet that "it does not look good" for Sheets. This is a real shame...it seemed like Benny was starting to get better results after a very rough start to the season, and was close to possibly getting traded to a contender.
  7. For those that missed it, Corey tried to make a sliding catch towards the wall down the foul line in RF. Missed the catch, slid too far, and seemed to jam his wrist on the unpadded part of the wall. Finished the rest of the inning defensively, but Edmonds pinch hit for him the next half inning.
  8. I can deal with the on field results being poor as long as young guys like Escobar and Gomez are being given the chance to play. I can't deal with seeing one of the team's best trade chips (and best chances to improve the club's future) go down with what could be a nasty injury one week before the trade deadline. Man, this season stinks. I feel like my new avatar is especially appropriate now.
  9. After seeing this pitching staff give up double digits to the Pirates offense, I'm a little scared of what the Nationals' 1-5 is going to be able to do. I'm feeling like it'll be a bunch of 12-10 games this weekend.
  10. Clearly, Suppan is working as a double agent behind enemy lines. All part of a brilliant sabotage plan hatched by Doug Melvin. It is kind of sad to see him in such a helpless situation, but at the same time, I agree with those saying it does feel good (at least a little) to see him struggling elsewhere. I think we can put that "Rick Peterson doomed him" argument to bed.
  11. And this inning would be why it's such a stupid idea to start throwing at batters in retaliation. That HBP kept this inning going, and now they're in serious jeopardy of losing the lead. Hope it was worth it to them.
  12. Per McCalvy, it seems as though Hart asked for the day off.
  13. Yeah, there's probably no reason to keep Cuban from bidding if the team is that close to financial disaster, but I still find it a little surprising considering he was the highest bidder for the Cubs and baseball didn't let him make the cut when Sam Zell narrowed the field down to five bidders. Cuban's group reportedly offered $1.2 billion back then, and Ricketts ending up buying them for $900 million. I'd personally love to see Cuban in baseball. Yeah, he spends boatloads of cash, but he's also not as controlling as Steinbrenner was while being more media friendly. I think it'd be a good thing for the game overall.
  14. I am not happy Yo is starting this game. Regardless, I hope he does well, and Macha is smart with him. I'll be pretty peeved if he pushes him much past 100 pitches or 6 innings tonight. I'm just praying he doesn't re-aggravate the oblique, or worse.
  15. I have no idea if I'm alone on this one, but I've come around to thinking getting Sanchez for Hart wouldn't be that bad...with the caveat that they're also able to trade Fielder for a young arm that's much more controllable, like Dan Hudson. I think there's a possibility that neither the Hart trade nor the Fielder trade generates an impressive haul when you look at them individually, but if you look at the sum of the two deals the Brewers could walk away with an impressive group of young players. Of course, that doesn't mean they shouldn't maximize their return on both players, but I don't necessarily think they need to get top of the line pitching in both deals for this deadline season/winter to be considered a good one. But maybe I'm just crazy.
  16. I think this series is payback for those 20-0 and 17-3 drubbings the Brewers dealt the Bucs earlier this year. The baseball gods do not approve, apparently.
  17. My favorite part from that Witrado post (aside from the title of "Braun trends (geek edition)"): Yeah, because those line graphs showing Braun's power trending downward are extremely complicated stuff, and it's way too easy for our puny minds to get lost at FanGraphs.
  18. The last time the Pirates scored this many runs in the first inning, they lost.
  19. Nope...when things get this bad I tend to chuckle, too. It keeps me sane.
  20. The only good part about this inning has been Brian Anderson subtly attacking Braun's defense, describing him as taking a "wayward" route on that flyout and noting he took his sweet time getting to that ball that went through McGehee's legs.
  21. Kind of interested to see Lincoln. Supposed to be one of their best prospects, but most people seem to think they rushed him to the big leagues. He's had problems giving up HR's, so maybe we'll get to see some more fireworks from Rickie and Prince tonight.
  22. Strasburg's going to get shut down for the year by the time September hits, but I'd still expect him to get a large number of votes. I still think it's Heyward's to lose, but Posey could make a run if the Giants climb back into that NL West race (although that's starting to look unlikely). Guys like Garica and Leake will probably get a few votes, but Heyward's has the season-long hype working in his favor.
  23. About the only thing worse for the Brewers' pitching staff than Capuano only being able to go 3 or 4 innings tonight would've been a prolonged rain delay that cuts his outing short after one inning. With how hard it's raining, I'm kind of hoping it never quits and they just postpone it.
