  1. I think a lot of it has to do with Brandon Jennings. John Hammond was actually on Brewers Live the other night talking about the pre-draft workouts and he mentioned how every player he talked to said something along the lines of "Oh yeah, me and Brandon are close," "We go way back," etc. Hammond said Jennings has the kind of personality that makes everyone feel like his best friend, and even if they don't know him, they know his style of play and the idea of playing with him is an attractive one. I never could've predicted this a year ago...I was one of the guys that hated the idea of drafting a teenager who turned pro overseas instead of going to college, not really knowing if his game was NBA-ready or the kind of guy he is. I thought he'd be the type that would hate playing for Milwaukee and would bolt the first chance he got. It looks like I was wrong on so many levels, but I'm glad that I was. He just seems like an awesome guy all around.
  2. In the error messages I've been getting the past couple days, it's been of the "Failed to connect to (address)" variety using Firefox. It's usually fine if I refresh the page once or twice, but until I saw this thread I just thought it was my DSL being weird.
  3. Correct. With Ichiro in right, I'm not sure how likely it is, but it'd be fun to see.
  4. Uh oh, Escobar didn't look good at all after that collision. No idea what Gomez was thinking still charging in with Escobar calling everyone off.
  5. The Muscle is expected to make it to the ballpark during the game, so we'll probably see him pinch hit. It'll be interesting to see the reaction...I don't think the average Sunday fan has the obsession with him that we do here.
  6. Brian and Bill sounded confused on the TV end, too, but I don't think Riske got tossed. My guess would be that Coffey was supposed to start that inning, and Riske went out to the mound not knowing or forgetting that he was getting taken out.
  7. Heard it on Baseball Tonight when they said "Russell Branyan is headed to Milwaukee!" and had my ears perk up, only for them to add "to join the Mariners." Don't toy with me like that, ESPN. Jack Z sends Juan Diaz and Ezequiel Carrera to Cleveland. I'm left wondering why they didn't just re-sign him this past winter...it seemed like he wanted to go back.
  8. I'm going to be pretty peeved if they send someone like Braddock down to make room for Doug Davis, considering the fact Cappy is basically wasting a roster spot right now. I was wondering why Cappy wasn't the one warming up when Wolf ran into trouble early.
  9. Prince really seems to be heating up. It's been awhile since we've seen him jump on a mistake pitch like that...absolutely crushed it. As for the weird play right before it, I'm surprised Rickie didn't break Rob Johnson's arm on that play. Good heads up play by Hart realizing the ball got away and no one was covering home.
  10. I feel bad about getting on Jay DeMerit since he's a Green Bay native (at least according to Wiki), but I can see why Tim Howard screams at him about 10 times a game. His defense on the Ghana goal was about as bad as I've seen.
  11. For those on Twitter, here is CDR's feed: http://twitter.com/cdouglasroberts He seems genuinely ecstatic to be a Buck, which is definitely a refreshing thing to see. If guys like Jennings and CDR can get other players excited about the idea of coming to Milwaukee, all hope may not be lost for the franchise. Amazing how different things can look in just a year.
  12. I only feel like Godmends would be appropriate if Edmonds starts hitting like it's 2004 and Gomez finally blossoms. I agree Go Diego Go works for now. Edit: On the topic of the M's bullpen, David Aardsma isn't with the team as his wife is having a baby today, so they're a man short.
  13. Jordan Schelling notes that it's becoming pretty clear that Edmonds and Gomez are in a strict platoon, even if Macha isn't saying as much. I'm not a fan. Edit: Fixed the graphic for PA.
  14. It's probably worth mentioning that Jackson also hit a batter and threw a wild pitch. He ended up with a game score of 85, which would have him tied for the 23rd best pitching performance this year. Here's a sorted list of this year's best performances, with Halladay's perfecto topping the list at 98.
  15. This isn't even the biggest teammate-related meltdown Zambrano has had, but I think it's more of a "straw that broke the camel's back" situation. It came out before the game that Zambrano and his family were going out to eat with Ozzie Guillen after the game, and there were quite a few media personalities already ripping him for that before Zambrano had his meltdown. If Ozzie's Twitter is any indication, the two still had dinner after the meltdown. I'm sure Cubs writers will love that. If the Cubs really wanted to get rid of him, I think the White Sox would be one of the few teams he'd waive his NTC for. He wouldn't have to move and he'd be playing for one of his best friends in the league. I don't think even Kenny Williams is that stupid to take him, though.
  16. Ugh, just the idea of Daron Sutton calling the final out of a no-hitter made my ears bleed. Then FS Wisconsin goes ahead and shows the final out with his call. Good for him, I guess. I was personally rooting for him to walk a run in and still keep the no-hitter in tact.
  17. Of course, it'd probably go down as the worst no-hitter of all-time. Seven walks so far. Edit: At 8 IP right now and 134 pitches. Nearly 70 of those came in the first 3 innings.
  18. Good to see Lucroy's first career HR/first career RBI landed in the bullpen. At least that way he won't have to provide autographed bats from Fielder/Braun, free tickets to the next series, and his first born son to get the ball back.
  19. Bush doesn't look very sharp early. Who could've seen that coming after Macha screwed with his pitching schedule again?
  20. There are still few players that I hate more than Jack Wilson. Can't believe he's still around.
  21. As a recent alum of one of VCU's in-conference rivals, I like the pick. Sanders terrorized the CAA, which is a pretty strong conference as far as mid-majors go. He's definitely a Scott Skiles player -- always 100% on the defensive end, and he'll give the Bucks some much-needed toughness down low. Taking him at #15 might've been a bit of a reach (I saw him going in the early 20's in a lot of mocks), but I'm also a guy who hated the Jennings pick last year, so I'll just reserve my judgment until the night is over. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  22. Not Bucks-related, but it does deal with the draft in a way: Portland owner Paul Allen has fired GM Kevin Pritchard one hour before the draft, but is allowing Pritchard to work the draft. I think it would be funny if he went out and drafted some unknown European stiff just out of spite. Seems like a pretty classless move on Allen's part.
  23. Per Jordan Schelling, this is the first sweep of the Twins since May 1996, and the first home sweep of the Twins since August 1995. Wow. Incredible outing by Yo today, and I was thrilled to see him get hyped up on the 5 PM SportsCenter. I'm starting to see a possible All-Star team nod, but I can't be the only one hoping he doesn't pitch in the game if he does make it.
  24. You can use the pitch f/x tool at Brooks Baseball to look at data about any pitcher's appearance on a given date. Just navigate to the day of the game you're interested in, choose the game (Minnesota Twins vs. Milwaukee Brewers, for example), and select the pitcher. It'll give you a ton of information and graphs, but you'd probably be most interested in the tables that break down the pitch types. Here's the data from Yo's start today. As for your changeup question, it doesn't appear that he's throwing more of them, at least not today -- he only threw 4 according to pitch f/x, but it's important to remember that the pitch type data isn't always accurate (the data comes from GameDay, and sometimes they make some interesting decisions on pitch types).
  25. Just to be clear, this is a Fredi Gonzalez thread, and not a Ken Macha thread. I was genuinely surprised to hear this news today. Gonzalez never struck me as a particularly boneheaded manager, and most of the players seemed to like him (other than Hanley). Loria's burning through managers like a Steinbrenner.
