  1. Yost is believed to be a possible candidate for the job, along with Bobby Valentine, Jim Fregosi, and Terry Pendleton. Yost, Fregosi, and Pendleton all have ties to the Atlanta organization, where Nats president Stan Kasten worked in the past. Acting GM Mike Rizzo has ties to Arizona, which makes Bob Melvin a possibility, too.
  2. It's not like homefield advantage means that much in the World Series (both leagues have won 3 since the rule was started, even though the AL's won all 6 games), but it'd be nice to just win one freaking All-Star game. I would've rather had Prince hitting in that last real chance to score instead of Howard, but at least he delivered when he was called upon earlier in the game.
  3. If the NL is serious about winning, I have no problem with trying to get Pujols a 4th AB. Part of me thinks Braun would've gotten a third chance to hit if the NL wasn't taking so long to get through the lineup with so many 3-up, 3-down innings. It's starting to get late, so I can't blame Manuel for trying to get guys like Upton in.
  4. Prince pinch hitting in the 2nd? Boo. Prince bringing in the go-ahead run? Yay. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  5. Not a good start...seems like Lincecum might be nervous, and it doesn't help that Pujols is booting balls at first.
  6. Eh, Cardinals fans have beef with the Cubs, not the entire city of Chicago. The booing was probably more political, which is disappointing, regardless of political ideology. Even though the camera crew botched the taping of the first pitch, it looked like it was good, judging from the mechanics. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif With the fist pump we can only assume he at least didn't bounce it.
  7. I'm sure they were just saying Boooooooo-raun. They're far too classy to lower themselves to the level of the common people of Milwaukee.
  8. Let's go NL...get some respect for everyone in the NL from the national talking heads. They've come painfully close the past few years, but haven't been able to hold on. We've come a long way from just hoping our guys don't get embarrassed playing with the "real" stars. Between Sheets starting last year's game, Prince winning this year's Derby, and Braun hitting clean up, the Brewers have been getting a lot of All-Star attention. I'm loving it.
  9. Cruz is tied for second in the AL in Home Runs with 22...he probably makes more sense than Joe Mauer, who only hit 3 HR in June and only has 1 so far in July. I'm not too worried about Prince messing up his swing. His swing is already built to hit home runs, and the last time he was in the derby he wound up hitting 50 HR that year. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  10. It's unfortunate that this happened, but probably expected. This won't be Acta's last chance to manage a big league club. It's not his fault the team is this bad -- they actually have a pretty solid bunch of offensive players, but the pitching has been absolutely atrocious this year. That falls on the GM, and since Bowden already stepped down amid the allegations of his actions in Latin America, that left Acta's neck on the chopping block.
  11. It'd be nice, but unfortunately I think it's more likely that we get a flurry of sportswriters with votes writing columns that say things like "I don't need some kind of computer to tell me who's a good defender" if they're proven wrong, or "It's a completely useless system because it tells me what I already know" if the data ends up supporting their opinions. While the Gold Glove voting will probably continue to stink, at least if the public can get their hands on this data we'll have a better idea of who's a good defender and who's living off their reputation.
  12. Keith Law with an interesting update on his Twitter, reporting from St. Louis: That would seem to confirm reports that the Jays have been asking for the likes of Kershaw, Billingsley, Chamberlain, Buchholz, etc. in any deal in addition to a group of really good prospects.
  13. Disappointing end to the first half, but I think we're probably used to that by now, even in recent years. The good news is that they're still within striking distance of the division with some much easier opponents coming up. If the Cubs can beat the Cards again tonight, the Brewers could go into the break tied with the Cards in the loss column. I think the break will do everyone some good, including Brewerfan. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif A chance for everyone to cool down should make this board a bit more pleasant when the team starts playing again.
  14. If Manny's still out in left, Hart probably drives a run in there...tough luck. How about some heroics, Braun? You're probably due, man.
  15. Yeah, it's probably a safe bet they'll hold Broxton out. He says he can pitch with it (and he did Friday night, apparently), but the Dodgers definitely don't want him pitching at the All-Star Game, and I assume they want to give him another day off today. I'm personally hoping for a Guillermo Mota 9th. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  16. Well, at least they're not going to get skunked. With any luck they can get it to a save situation and make things really interesting since the Dodgers don't have Broxton. I'll take an RBI double from Hall and a sac fly from Gerut, considering their recent struggles.
  17. First hard hit ball in innings ends up being a double play with Fielder straying too far off first on the lineout. To his credit, Kershaw settled down nicely...it's pretty easy to see now how he's among the league leaders in opponent batting average. I'm taking solace in the fact that last year's team ended the first half with a pretty crappy series against the Reds, only to go on a huge tear after the break. I'm hoping this year's team responds the same way.
  18. Looking at his game log, June 25 against Minnesota...that's a 15 game drought. If I counted right, he also had a 17-game drought in May. Braun's been known to hit his homers in bunches, so it's probably not much of a surprise. Still stinks that it's happened during this recent rough stretch, though.
  19. Good thing Manny Ramirez has no interest in running hard to second on a possible double play, because that was hit pretty weakly. I'll take it, though, especially after Casey Blake gave me a bit of a scare.
  20. And that would be why batting Jason Kendall leadoff probably isn't the best idea Macha's had this year. At least Yo had a much easier 2nd inning than Kershaw. Keep them off the board again in the 3rd and they should have a decent shot of scoring in the bottom half with Hart-Braun-Fielder coming up.
  21. Bummer. At least it's looking like a short outing for Kershaw, and the Dodgers' bullpen has been overworked as it is (not to mention they don't have a closer with Broxton out).
  22. McGehee should've been called out, but I'll take a bases loaded situation in the first. At least Kershaw's pitch count is going to be in bad shape, too.
  23. Well, it could've been a whole lot worse, and that was a solid play by Counsell to end the inning. Hopefully Cameron and Hart are on the Gamel/McGehee "Error = Home Run" plan today.
  24. I prefer to root for the Cards to lose, rather than rooting for the Cubs to win. And even then, I take a shower afterward.
