  1. I didn't like Suppan giving the Cubs a free runner or the ump warning both sides. It seemed to me that when Fielder got hit, the pitch got away from Zambrano a bit, and he was showing that he didn't have much control all inning long. At least it should be the end of the beanballs, although Suppan's probably lucky he didn't get tossed for hitting Fox. Given how that inning started, I'm happy to get out of it with the score still tied. Hopefully Prince is still irritated enough about getting hit to hit one out to lead off the next inning. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  2. Would've been easy to just die when it got to be 9-2, but at least they kept at it in the late innings and managed to have chances to crawl back into the game. Start over with a clean slate tomorrow.
  3. Well at least Dempster's out of the game. Chances of a comeback are still slim, but hopefully they can keep adding runs and at least make the Cubs sweat a little bit and use Marmol and/or Gregg.
  4. Actually, the Brewers play StL after this (Cubs play ATL, then StL), but that's beside the point.Maybe that's why I had Cards on the mind. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif I knew the Cubs play the Cards before the break, but spaced on the dates. Hopefully McClung has some success tonight...if he could go 5, I'd be happy. If he can work into the 6th and save an inning from the bullpen early in this series I'll be thrilled. Edit: Cubs lineup, per NSBB...no Soriano tonight. Fuld LF Theriot SS Lee 1B Bradley RF Fox 3B Fukudome CF Soto C Fontenot 2B Dempster P I don't care if Soriano's hitting like Bill Hall right now, I'm just glad to see him out of the lineup.
  5. Nervous, but excited. The Cubs' chances of winning the division pretty much rest on their next two series (they face St. Louis after this IIRC), so these games are almost more important to them. The pitching match ups aren't in the Brewers' favor, but considering the Cubs' problems scoring runs lately, I think they have a good shot of at least getting a split. It'd be nice to win the series, but even a series loss wouldn't be a huge blow...it'd just be really irritating thinking of Len Kasper's overly-excited Kermit the Frog voice if the Cubs managed to take the series. 2B Craig Counsell SS J.J. Hardy LF Ryan Braun 1B Prince Fielder 3B Casey McGehee CF Mike Cameron RF Corey Hart C Jason Kendall RHP Seth McClung
  6. "The outfield walls now look like the yellow pages. And any of you folks having trouble finding a good proctologist, might want to come down here and check out the area around the 375 foot sign." http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif The only advertisement I've had a problem with is the C-It-Go Citgo pump...that was a little too minor league promotion-y for my tastes, but like others have said, if the ad revenue can help the team keep it's players, I'll look the other way.
  7. In addition to the thread in the draft forum pretendastronaut linked, this thread is following the International Free Agency period and has some discussion on the Pena signing as well. To avoid too many threads popping up about the topic, this one is locked.
  8. With the way Parra has pitched in the majors this year, it's hard to imagine another team viewing him as anything more than a throw in. It's likely not indicative of his true talent, but we don't really know what other teams think of him at this point. I believe Arizona when they say it'd take a ridiculous offer to trade away Haren, and The Truth probably wasn't far off. Haren's signed to a ridiculously team-friendly contract through 2012, with a team option for 2013. They also emptied out their farm system to get him in the first place, so they're probably expecting another team to do the same if they're moving him. They traded away two players the A's used to acquire Matt Holliday (Carlos Gonzalez and Greg Smith), a pair of very solid lefties in Brett Anderson and Dana Eveland, and two pretty good hitting prospects in Aaron Cunningham and Chris Carter. If Arizona thinks they can compete in the West next year, there's no reason to trade him. It would be pretty cool to see him in a Brewers uniform, though. I just fear what it would take to get him...at least he'd be signed long-term.
  9. Maybe he did twice as many steriods?Maybe the Brewers would've had a winning season in the late 90's if he wasn't so selfish and shared with everyone else.
  10. It was 7 hits to 5 and 2 of our hits were infield singles. There were also balls hit by Fielder and Counsell caught at the wall, and a couple other screamers that were hit right at fielders (Prince's lineout in the 9th being an example). It was frustrating that they weren't able to get anyone in, sure, but I think they were far from a failure at the plate today. Things like Fielder's baserunning gaffe irritated me more than the lack of hitting today.
  11. Some games it just isn't your day. The Brewers outhit the Mets today and hit everything harder, but it was a bloop double and a dribbler past Counsell that did them in today. Fantastic outing for Yo, and a winning homestand is probably more than most of us were expecting after that Twins series. Let's put this game behind us and hope the Brewers kick some Cubbie butt. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  12. It'd be nice to at least tie it up here, but even if they don't, K-Rod is far from unbeatable. It always seems like he lets a lot of runners on base, even if he eventually closes the door.
  13. Just looking through the game thread titles in the past month: 6/28: 0 6/25: 4 6/21: 2 6/20: 5 6/14: 4 6/13: 1 6/11: 3 6/7: 7 I don't know how much of today's struggles are due to it being a day game, though. The roof is closed and there aren't any shadows on the field due to the overcast skies. Brian and Bill mentioned that it looked like a night game because it's so dark. Today probably had more to do with Pelfrey just having a good day and forcing a lot of ground balls.
  14. Ugh...why the heck would you even try that bunt again? That's going to look really bad if Hart eventually gets on. Edit: No, wasn't a straight steal. Hart squared up to bunt but took the pitch, Fielder got caught too far off second base and tried to advance to third when Schneider threw down to second.
  15. Yeah, Castillo was already motoring into second by the time the fan touched the ball. Braun was still a few steps away and kind of stopped when she flopped onto the field, but there wouldn't have been a play at second. Can't say I agree with Macha letting Yo hit here, even though his next start won't be until Tuesday. Too many high pitch count outings for him lately, and if he's working with a blister or something I'd want to get him out of there.
  16. I really hope this doesn't end up being a hard luck loss for Yo...Church barely hit that one, and it looked like the kind of grounder a guy like Weeks could've kept in the infield. Hopefully Yo can keep it at 1-0 here and they can eventually get a couple guys across against Pelfrey or that Mets pen.
  17. Oof...would've been nice to get one there. Can we go back to facing the fireballing fly ball pitchers instead of the sinkerball ground out guys like Pelfrey?
  18. Not official until there's a picture for it. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif http://www.almostuptown.com/_/rsrc/1239732296508/i-83-anthology/I-83-SN-sign.jpg
  19. Brian Wilson completes a 4 out save to beat the Cards...hello, two game division lead. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  20. BREWERS WIN! Congrats on Career Win #1, Mr. Burns...I'm sure it was well worth the wait.
  21. http://miniblogs.lv/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/mr_burns.jpg Tack on a few more, close this one out, and send Yo out there tomorrow.
  22. I imagine (or hope) that the bullpen will fire up once Burns lets somebody on base. He's got a bit of a cushion to work with, but Macha shouldn't hesitate to get someone up if someone gets on, especially to lead off the inning.
  23. I'd like to think Mr. Burns has earned himself a job at least until the All-Star Break. Other than the one bad inning against the Twins, he's outperformed all expectations of him thus far. Of course, it's only been two starts against two teams whose lineups are incredibly scary, but he's been far from an automatic loss at the bottom of the rotation.
  24. Braun is absolutely owning Santana tonight. Screw the triple, the little league grand slam is the most exciting play in baseball. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  25. Normally I wouldn't feel good about a game against Santana, but the Mets' depleted lineup definitely lifts my spirits. Hopefully the Brewers can pull out something like a 4-3 win, making Santana throw a ton of pitches and forcing him to leave after 7 before pouncing on the bullpen.
