  1. As much as I love Braun, he still tries way too hard sometimes when he feels like he has to make up for something or be the hero. Hopefully in the next year or two we'll see him mature at the plate like Prince did and become more selective.
  2. It's even worse when it's Vargas blowing a lead, because he takes so long to do it. It's like peeling off a band-aid over the course of 30 minutes. Hopefully they can get out of this tied and the offense can win one late.
  3. Looper's now only 5 HR allowed away from breaking Wayne Franklin's team record. At least it was a solo shot.
  4. I was watching, but didn't want to jinx it. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Prince looked pretty PO'd that his single didn't plate the tying run. I don't know what Fischer was doing sending Braun on that short fly by Cam...get them next inning, I guess.
  5. I'm still a little frustrated about him killing that rally in the first inning by straying too far off 2nd on Braun's liner to short. The guy's been hitting the cover off the ball ever since coming over and I'd hate to see what this offense would look like without him, but I can see why fans in Arizona weren't exactly bummed to see him go.
  6. Is there any way to force Felipe Lopez to attend the "baserunning basics" instructional after the game?
  7. I'm pretty sure there are little leaguers who could've put together a better AB than Kendall in that spot. At least Arroyo's been less than spectacular on the mound himself...the Brewers should get a few more chances.
  8. Wow, Felipe Lopez got all of that one on the sweet spot. Knew it was gone as soon as he made contact. Hopefully Soup can keep walking the tightrope and the offense can score a few more the next time up.
  9. I stumbled across the latest free agent compensation projections the other day, and figured it might be relevant to this thread. Free agent pitchers from both leagues: Josh Beckett (team option) - A Cliff Lee (team option) - A Rich Harden - A Randy Wolf - A John Lackey - A Brandon Webb (team option) - B Randy Johnson - B Braden Looper (team option) - B Joel Piniero - B Doug Davis - B Jason Marquis - B Todd Wellemeyer - B Jon Garldand (team option) - B Andy Pettitte - B Tim Wakefield (team option) - B Kevin Millwood (team option) - B Erik Bedard - B Justin Duchscherer - B Jarrod Washburn - B Tim Hudson (team option) - none Brett Myers - none Brian Moehler (team option) - none Mike Hampton - none John Smoltz - none Jason Schmidt - none Carl Pavano - none Jose Contreras - none Brad Penny - none Bartolo Colon - none Kelvim Escobar - none Adam Eaton (team option) - none
  10. Odd start time on get-away day, but hopefully the Brewers' bats fare better this afternoon than they did yesterday. Let's get Yo win #12, guys. Lineup: 2B Felipe Lopez RF Frank Catalanotto LF Ryan Braun 1B Prince Fielder 3B Casey McGehee CF Mike Cameron C Jason Kendall RHP Yovani Gallardo SS Alcides Escobar
  11. It's officially impossible for the Brewers to win 100 games now. Oh well...get the series win tomorrow afternoon. Nice to see Esco get his first career home run, though. Watching the Nats' feed on MLB.TV, I noticed Braun is only 3 away from reaching 100, so we may be a week or two away from celebrating another milestone.
  12. The fact that Adam Dunn's never been in the Home Run Derby is a travesty.
  13. Hey, two in a row's always nice, especially when you can survive a Mike Burns start. Let's get another one tomorrow! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  14. I knew Packers/Bills was tonight, but tried to stay with the Wisconsin/DC match up. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Good thing the offense won't quit tonight...hopefully Cam gets another chance for that triple he's missing for the cycle.
  15. Well, at least they got out of the inning still tied, and there's a lot of baseball left. The final score of this one's probably going to end up looking more like Packers-Redskins than Brewers-Nats.
  16. If the Brewers are unable to bring Hoffman back, Coffey wouldn't be a bad guy to try out in the closer's role, IMO. You could do worse (like Derrick Turnbow or Eric Gagne).
  17. I'm not Peavey, but personally I'd have second thoughts about trading Hardy in-division, just in the off-chance that he figures out his swing again and becomes a very valuable player. But I'm not one to really like intra-division trades to begin with. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  18. There's a thread in the Major League forum -- Jesus Colome to DL, Chris Narveson called back up, Corporan removed from the 40-man to make room for Narveson since he was DFA'd himself earlier this year. Here's the report from TH.
  19. That's what I was thinking. If anything, it might give Angel a better chance of seeing some PT this September, too. There's only 3 catchers on the 40-man now, and he's the only one not in Milwaukee.
  20. I still follow the team as closely as I can, even though it's getting harder with a new semester starting up soon. There are things I still enjoy watching about this team -- Fielder is going to end up breaking the single season club record for RBI, it's still fun to watch Braun hit, Escobar's impressed me so far in this big league stint, Gamel will be back up soon, I'm interested in seeing if Casey McGehee can finish the season strong, and hopefully raise some hell in the playoff picture by making a little noise against the contenders in September and finishing the year strong. The pitching's not very fun to watch, but it's been worse before...nothing I haven't seen and stomached before. Finish the year strong, and head into an offseason that should see some pretty big adjustments. If this team is mirroring Melvin's Texas squad, it's doing a scary good job so far. After their first playoff appearance in 1996 (with a 90-72 record), they missed the playoffs the following year with a record of 77-85. They rebounded from that season to make the playoffs the next two years, although they kept running into the Yankees dynasty and had trouble once they got there. Here's to hoping for a similar rebound after this season, with slightly different results in the postseason. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  21. If the season ended today, the Brewers would be in the Top 15 in next year's draft, and as a result have their first round pick protected if they chose to go after a Type A. Unfortunately it doesn't look like there'll be much available, but they may be more willing to go after a complement to Yo with that protection.
  22. Can't say I disagree. I wasn't thrilled with the Macha hiring to begin with, but was willing to give it a chance. Considering he's only on a two year contract and a decision on his future (whether to extend or fire him) will be made after the season anyway, I wouldn't mind expediting the process and maybe seeing what someone like Willie Randolph could do. Who knows, maybe the team goes on a mini-surge like the Nats did when Jim Riggleman stepped in to replace Manny Acta. If that was the case I wouldn't expect any miracles, but it might be nice to see what they have in Randolph before he possibly bolts for a managing job elsewhere this offseason.
  23. I was one of those hoping for something bigger, but just unloading him for a warm body and some salary relief is a small victory in itself. Here are the comments from Gord Ash that Invader was referencing, per McCalvy:
  24. I tend to agree with this. It would be nice, but it probably won't happen. A lot of people were saying that the Red Sox were very close to adding both Victor Martinez and Cliff Lee in a package deal at the deadline, but the Indians dealt Lee to Philly when Boston wouldn't give up Buchholz in that trade. If the Red Sox weren't going to give up Buchholz in a V-Mart/Lee package deal, I don't see many (if any) scenarios in which they'd trade him to Milwaukee.
  25. No. Lee was an All Star. Cordero was having a below average season and was removed from his closer's role. Then maybe we could get Heath Bell for Hardy? Both had been named All-Stars previously in their careers at the time of the trade. Granted, Cordero's appearance came in 2004 and Lee made appearances in 2005 and that 2006 season, but I think that's what Robert was getting at. As already noted, Cordero was really only bad during April that year, and was a very very good closer during his time in Milwaukee (2.60 ERA with 60 saves in 1.5 seasons). Cordero-for-Lee was pretty even in itself. I think what most people have a problem with is the second part of the trade (Nelson Cruz for Kevin Mench and Laynce Nix). In retrospect it does look bad, but Cruz took awhile to even blossom for Texas and Mench was a disappointment compared to his career numbers at the point of the trade...he had an .818 career OPS (and an OPS+ of 107). He completely fell off a cliff upon leaving Texas, which is what makes the trade look bad.
