  1. My favorite comment on the Posnanski review: It's stuff like this that makes me miss FJM.
  2. Yeah, I would've preferred to face Willis today, especially since we have two "jinxes" working against us today (the unknown rookie pitcher jinx and the 2009 national TV jinx). Hopefully they can hit this guy as well as they hit Tommy Hanson and Bush has figured out his mechanics. Figaro's stats in AA so far this year: 5-2, 4.10 ERA, 1.074 WHIP, 7.8 K/9, 2.2 BB/9, 3.47 K/BB
  3. Well since the home team has the lead, all they conceivably have to do is get the last out in the Tigers' 4th and play the Brewers' top half of the 5th in order to make the game official, if Brian Anderson is correct (saying you only need 4 1/2 completed if the home team is ahead instead of 5 full). That would bite, to say the least.
  4. Not really a surprise, since Detroit's got some pop in their bats. Looked to me like that one bounced off the top of the wall and back into play. It'd be interesting to see two HR replays with two different results...that'd probably get the Brewers on SportsCenter. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  5. I think if he was playing first base or DHing on a regular basis, he'd have a better chance...the fact that he's doing this at catcher is pretty amazing in itself. At this rate he's going to shatter the record for batting average by a catcher, which he already holds. I do think the Twins have a decent chance at signing him...like others have said, they're opening that new ballpark next year and he's been a huge draw since the day he was drafted. If they'd break the bank for one player, it'd be Mauer. Whether or not it'd be a good idea is another matter, since he likely won't be playing catcher by the end of that new contract.
  6. BREWERS WIN! Stetter's last 11 outs have all been via a strikeout..pretty impressive considering he doesn't throw all that hard. Brains and Braun, I definitely felt like Rickie after that error. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif FanGraphs ended up looking pretty whacky... http://www.fangraphs.com/lgraphs/290617105_Brewers_Indians_131514583_lbig.png
  7. Win expectancy dropped from 78% to 66% on Stetter's error. I can't take much more of this! Can't say this series hasn't been exciting to watch, though.
  8. I do like this pitching switch. Stetter against righties is less of a gamble than DiFelice against lefties. Speaking of DiFelice, interesting stuff on him over at FanGraphs today: The Ultimate ROOGY.
  9. Greg Aquino may be my favorite player in the majors right now. Edit: Is "It's Not My Time" something the Cleveland folks want to be hearing over the PA system right now? Not a great pick for a mound visit song at this point. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Double Edit: The "Yostian" comment was made more out of frustation of Macha going to a 40-year old closer for the 4th time in 5 days when he hasn't looked very sharp lately. Probably a bit harsh since that phrase should only be used in gaffes of epic proportions, but I still think Macha should've taken the opportunity to give Trevor and extra day of rest considering his old rule of getting two days off if you've pitched three days in a row.
  10. FanGraphs has a doozy, that's for sure: http://www.fangraphs.com/lgraphs/290617105_Brewers_Indians_131505649_lbig.png Let's cash in against Aquino, guys. How about one more big hit for Hardy tonight? Hell, I'll take him just getting on base now that the bases are loaded. Edit: A sac fly is cool, too. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  11. I really don't understand why Macha's gone from "we need to protect Trevor" to the Yostian "save situation = Trevor" mentality. He's been used something like 4 times in 5 days now, and hasn't looked good in a few days.
  12. Not a fan of using Hoffman here considering how much he's been used lately and how he's looked when he's been used. He could've used a few days off. Hopefully he can get it done without too much damage, though.
  13. BILL HALL TAKES LEADS. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif About a month's worth of frustration taken out on that ball.
  14. Stuff like this seems to happen on a nightly basis in the Majors this year, but it won't change because those capable of making a change in the replay rules think that human error is a valuable part of the game. Personally, I think the replay system should include any questionable play. Give managers one challenge per 9 innings and you wouldn't be slowing the game down much.
  15. Would've gotten out of the inning with the lead if Suppan didn't have to get four outs. Let's take the lead right back, guys.
  16. It's so quiet in Cleveland that you could hear how unhappy Gamel was with the result of his last at-bat...it sounded like he said something that rhymes with "truck". http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif I've been pretty impressed with Suppan so far. Hopefully he keeps it up.
  17. I'm liking the whole "scoring in every inning" thing. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Hopefully they don't let up with the lead increasing and Suppan pitching well.
  18. Looks like J.J.'s definitely heating up if he's hitting opposite field homers to right center. Nice to get a couple runs early with Suppan on the mound, and hopefully he can keep the ball low.
  19. The start time is being delayed by about 30 minutes as they pull the tarp off the field, for those unable to watch. Hopefully they'll be able to get this game in on one shot with no further delays.
  20. Kendall's hitting .333 so far in June with an OBP of .435. Not trying to say it's a great decision, but that might be what Macha's thinking. We'll see where it leads the Brewers tonight, and I certainly hope it's not a permanent thing. If anything, this might be more a result of McGehee being unable to play tonight.
  21. Seems like a "well, let's see if this works" lineup. I definitely don't anticipate seeing it outside of interleague play. I think it's interesting that Hall's hitting 9th against a left handed pitcher now, which probably says something about Macha's confidence in him at this point (although he did have a couple nice ABs last night). Kendall's at least been swinging a hot bat lately, so maybe they luck into some success tonight.
  22. It must've been pretty dead in the park last night, because for most of the game I could hear the same idiot chanting "FIELDER SUCKS", "HARDY SUCKS", "CAMERON SUCKS" etc. Brian and Bill even mentioned being able to make out individual voices in the crowd. I'd be willing to bet a lot of the crappy attitude is due to the Brewers' comeback Monday night...I know I'd probably feel pretty bummed about a loss like that for a few days.
  23. To be fair, the love for Sosa wasn't unanimous among Cubs fans at the end. Sure, a lot of the casual fans worshiped the guy and he was the reason why they became fans in the first place, but I think you also have to remember that he left Chicago on really bad terms. There was the fiasco with him leaving his last game as a Cub early before the game was finished, the corked bat controversy, and the sneaking suspicion that he was on something. I saw some posts on NSBB that went something like "I always knew he did, always hoped he didn't, always realized how foolish that hope was, and am still disappointed with the news." I think that's a very reasonable stance to take from a Cubs perspective. At the same time, I can understand the people who say it's not a big deal. If anything, the only thing this does is provide those who thought he wasn't clean with their first piece of solid evidence -- it's not really as surprising as the Alex Rodriguez story, and I'd bet that it's not nearly as surprising as the other 100 names on that list. In that respect, I can understand why people would think that way...at this point, we're all kind of dulled to this kind of thing and really should just assume that every player from that era was on something . Then again, as part of a younger generation I grew up during that era and haven't had a hard time feeling that way...maybe I'm in the minority.
  24. Yeesh...Hafner's golfed a couple out so far this week. Good thing they were able to build up a bit of a cushion.
  25. Everything seems to indicate that McGehee's injury isn't serious, which is good to hear. You have to wonder how long it's been bothering him, though, because his mobility on defense didn't seem all that great from the start.
