  1. HOLY FREAKING CRAP!! It looked like the Twins were playing little league defense out there...keep throwing it around until everyone scores.
  2. At this point, I'll take the minimum requirements for a quality start. Now let's wake the bats up and steal this one.
  3. Yeesh...we don't need another starter on the shelf. Hopefully Looper's alright. It'd be really nice to get this game, considering that the Cubs and Cards are both losing at the moment.
  4. Gamel hitting second is definitely interesting, but his patience lately should serve well there. Please play better defense tonight, Brewers...I don't know if I can handle giving away that many runs again.
  5. This thread is fine for discussing Hall's continued struggles and what might help him, but it's getting dangerously close to becoming a vent thread. I'm as frustrated with him now as anyone, but this isn't the place to blow off steam.
  6. This is a tough one to swallow, when you factor in all the LOB against Liriano and the fact that they really could've won this game if it weren't for the defensive miscues (specifically some very make-able plays by Kendall and Hardy). Defense has been the difference between these two teams so far...hopefully they can pick themselves up and not give away as many outs tomorrow.
  7. ...and following that two more get on and the game ends 7-5 on a strike out with the winning run at batThat's what the folks over at NSBB would call the patented fake rally. The Cubs are pretty good at it, but the Brewers have put together quite a few of those this year, too. It wouldn't surprise me, but right now I'll be happy if they can force a save situation.
  8. I really would've liked to see McGehee in that situation instead of Kendall...I was hoping that Kendall leading off was a one-night thing, but I guess not. Hopefully that's not the last chance they'll get to cut into this lead, because Liriano has to be finished after that. Maybe they'll be able to do something against the Twins bullpen this series.
  9. Hopefully that double play helps get the team some momentum. The start of this game has stunk, but they're only 4 runs down and 5+ innings to get those runs.
  10. Why do you think ego played a part? I'm not trying to start anything, I just haven't heard anyone make that claim before, so I'm a little curious. I personally think that not dealing Hart had more to do with Corey's horrific slump to end last season that could've had a big impact on his trade value. If I had to guess, I'd say Melvin didn't want to sell low on Hart. It could be ego in that regard, but I think it's more likely that he thinks Hart's true ability is higher than what some scouts may have seen post All-Star break last year.
  11. To be honest, running into something like this was probably expected considering the amount of innings he pitched down the stretch last year. I don't take pleasure in CC getting hurt, but I do hope the Yankees suffer a bit for their overspending this past offseason. They were essentially bidding against themselves for Sabathia and are getting burned for the Burnett signing so far. At least Teixeira's working out well for them, but I can see the pitching continuing to be a problem for them.
  12. As discouraging as this series was, I can think of a few silver linings. It was still a 3-3 road trip...not bad when you look at the big picture (but a little disappointing after that sweep of Cleveland). The offense showed a little bit of fight on Saturday cutting the Detroit lead to a respectable margin. Gallardo pitched very well today considering how much he's been struggling lately. While the RISP this series were maddening, they're at least getting guys on base. I do feel better about this upcoming Twins series than I did about the one a couple weeks ago. For whatever reason the Brewers always play poorly in the Metrodome and have a bit more success against the Twins at home. Hopefully the front office folks can figure something out during the off day tomorrow as far as what they're going to do with the rotation and Gamel.
  13. Part of me thinks that broadcasters and writers that say these things about the scrappy players do so because they just like those players as people, and since they're not superstars, they'll rarely blow off the media when things aren't going well. It's really no secret that journalists love the guys who give them access and despise the guys who are condescending or disrespectful to the media. It took Jim Rice forever to get into the Hall of Fame because Boston writers hated the guy and spread bad stories about him for years after he was gone. I'd be willing to bet part of the reason why guys like Haudricourt were so hard on Yost (aside from some questionable decisions) was Yost's act in post-game press conferences. Counsell and Kendall are great guys by almost all accounts, so it's really no surprise that the people covering them are reluctant to really admit they're not very good players.
  14. Hey, he throws hard enough that if you can make contact on the sweet spot you have a good chance at hitting one out. How do you think Casey McGehee was able to hit one out opposite field? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  15. Just a couple bad pitches from Yo in that inning...he got lucky on the first one to Thames, but didn't get so lucky on the Inge AB. Still a very good start overall from him...it's just a shame that they're up against one of the hottest pitchers in the AL right now. Verlander's been filthy since that McGehee homer.
  16. Apparently you're allowed to run out of the baseline to avoid a tag at first now. This is the worst umpiring crew I've seen all year...incredible.
  17. Gamel having a very nice day so far, which is good to see. That would've been a HR in Miller Park, though...luckily Granderson couldn't find it, or at least took a bunch of weird angles on it.
  18. I think Melvin has been looking, but the cupboards are looking pretty bare.Open tryouts? Could the results be worse?I'm left-handed and can throw a pretty wicked 50 mph change-up. Haven't heard anything from my agent yet as far as contract negotiations with the Brewers go, though. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  19. I fear a DL stint is in Dave's future...he just hasn't been the same since getting drilled in the elbow in Florida, and there's definitely something wrong in terms of mechanics if he's even admitting as much. He needs some time to figure things out, but unfortunately the Brewers aren't really in a position to give him that time right now.
  20. Well, the good news is that the Brewers don't have much of a problem getting guys on base against Figaro. If Bush can rebound from that rough inning and pitch a few scoreless I feel good about getting the lead back.
  21. Looks like Corey lost track of that ball...Gerut saw it and was pointing it out. Still embarrassing to allow a triple to the catcher, though.
  22. Figaro's throwing some heat...I don't know if FOX's gun is fast (reading 97 mph on that McGehee strikeout), but it's still pretty impressive. At least they were able to push a run across. Hopefully Bush can keep it going on the mound and they can add to it next inning.
  23. No mention of a possible Hart scratch on JSOnline yet, but it is Witrado reporting and not Haudricourt. Witrado didn't even seem confident in Kendall catching, so I guess we'll see what we get for the lineup in a little more than an hour. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  24. Games of note: Indians @ Cubs currently on WGN Cards @ Royals 3:10 PM CT White Sox @ Reds 6:00 PM CT Indians had a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 5th with Tomo Ohka pitching unusually well, but Derrek Lee ties the game at 2 with a home run.
  25. Cameron's serving his one-game suspension today, so Gerut starting in center isn't a surprise. Kendall catching is kind of a surprise, like you said RKFG, but maybe they're just trying to switch things up and see how Bush fares with Kendall catching instead of Rivera. It could be the PH thing, but you don't really see that many pinch-hit appearances in AL games.
