  1. I deleted the thread I started and merged all the others into this thread, going with Woogie's thread since he beat the clock and was the first to post. Interesting that they got DeRosa for so little, but then again we don't know who the PTBNL is. I guess Perez helps Cleveland's bullpen problems, though, and I bet Cubs fans are more upset about this trade than we are. It would've been nice to get DeRosa, but McGehee has started hitting about as well as DeRosa can with all the same versatility. It does stink to see the Cards get another solid bat, though...that lineup suddenly looks a lot more respectable.
  2. There was a thread on this about a month ago when the story was picked up again after the Marlins reportedly had some weird experiences. There always seems to be a few stories about visiting players having odd activity in their hotel rooms every year. My personal favorite is Adrian Beltre resorting to sleeping with his bat for protection back when the Dodgers still stayed there. I believe they've started using a different hotel since. Here's the most recent article on the subject, although I wouldn't be surprised if another comes about with Sandoval talking about it. Looks like Mr. Pfister needs to step up his game if he's going to scare Sandoval to the point of not producing. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  3. Games like this make me feel like I'm not crazy for thinking this is a playoff team. Fantastic win, and let's get the sweep tomorrow before the scuffling Mets come to town. Any official word on if Lincecum is pitching or not?
  4. Exactly the guy you want to see up right now. Don't try to hit one out, Prince, just find a gap.
  5. Alright, Corey! That's one hell of an AB. Now please keep the ball off the ground, J.J. Just find a way to get Braun to the plate.
  6. Just get it to the top of the order with guys on. Wilson's beatable, despite the gaudy stats so far this year.
  7. WOW...a pair of absolute moonshots. Prince was trying for a homer from the first pitch of his AB and finally connected on one, and McGehee launches one on Medders' first pitch...incredible. We don't need no stinkin' smallball. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Let's get a couple more runs and stop pitching to Sandoval.
  8. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3208/2457643793_48312d735c.jpg I can't wait for this game to start, partially because listening to Tim McCarver on FOX for the Cubs/White Sox game is driving me nuts. He just tried to argue that everyone should swing at the first pitch because the league is hitting .330 when they make contact on the first pitch of an AB.
  9. I guess I'm starting to come around on Jennings after seeing his press conference. He seems excited to play for Scott Skiles, which you typically don't see from NBA players considering his reputation for riding guys hard. If he's willing to commit to becoming a better player I can get behind him. I also like the pick of Meeks in the second round. The second the pick was announced I thought it wasn't a bad pick for that spot in the draft, and I can definitely see some parallels between him and Redd, who he could conceivably end up replacing. Both are capable of big point totals, but are mostly jump shooters. The guy can flat-out shoot, though, so hopefully guys like Jennings (and hopefully Sessions, although I'm not as optimistic of him returning now) will be able to penetrate and get him some open looks. Definitely not a bad guy to have around, and I think he'll definitely stick as an NBA player. I'm betting he's wishing he stayed in school and played a year for Calipari, though...I think he would've been a first round pick if this wasn't such a guard-heavy draft.
  10. Or Zambrano, for that matter. Needless to say, the Milton Bradley Experience has been enjoyable to watch from the outside. It's like the equivalent of the Bears signing Terrell Owens, thinking they finally solved their problems at a position of need, only to see him under-perform and completely implode on multiple levels. The Cubs signed Bradley thinking he'd give them a power bat that can hit from the left side of the plate (they were so hung up on being too-right handed), knowing full well that he had the kind of personality that probably wouldn't play well in a large market. All we need is a teary-eyed press conference or two from Milton and we're set.
  11. Well, after tagging Matt Cain for 5 runs tonight, the rest of the series should be easy. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Definitely a much-needed win, and impressive that they were able to do it with only one home run (a solo shot, at that). Gallardo pitched one hell of a game, even though I wish Macha would've just gone with Coffey to start the 8th instead of pushing Yo's pitch count into the 110's.
  12. Yeah, it wouldn't have killed Macha to just go to someone else to start this inning and let Yo have a sub-100 pitch outing for a change. Seeing Yo walk the pinch hitter to lead off the inning wasn't what I wanted to see.
  13. Seven strong innings for Yo...you have to think he's done, though, considering how he looked like he was wearing down in that last inning and he's up around 100 pitches. Very nice to see the "old" Yo after seeing him labor through most of June.
  14. Would've liked to get more that inning, but scoring 5 runs off Matt Cain is quite a feat already, considering how this team has been struggling getting guys in.
  15. I'm really digging how Yo managed to settle down after that Sandoval home run. He's gone back to having his usual good control tonight, and that pitch Sandoval hit out wasn't even all that bad, it was just bad luck. Hopefully he can keep it going and get through 7 innings without much of a problem.
  16. Yeah, I agree. Witrado says that "with McGehee hitting so well, it's tough to bench him right now" which is hard to argue with, but why wouldn't you start him at second against a righty? The issue was brought up against Baker yesterday and I agree that if we have to choose between left-handed bats with McGehee hitting so well, I'd choose Gamel over Counsell. At least the lineup doesn't look as bad as San Francisco's. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Hard to believe that they're a serious wildcard contender with that lineup, but I guess that's a testament to how well they've been pitching.
  17. I'm not crazy about the Jennings pick, but maybe it's the fact that it still bugs me that he skipped out on college to take the money in Europe for a year. I guess I'm just not confident in him staying in Milwaukee longer than he has to. Hopefully they can get something out of him before he bolts.
  18. I feel the same way. He made a perfectly valid and very good point about a decision by the manager and his decision to put the worst pitcher in our bullpen in a one run game. I mean if we're cracking down on posts like that, why even have a game thread?I should apologize and clarify...I thought his points about Narveson being in were perfectly fine, but it was his last statement that made me say it "toed the line". He didn't break any rules, but I didn't appreciate the insinuation that the game was over. In retrospect, I should've kept my mouth shut and handled it privately with bklyn, and I should've refrained from making the second comment that IGTs aren't meant to be vent threads (that comment wasn't directed at anyone in particular, just an observation about the IGTs in general lately). In summary: no one's getting punished, no one's cracking down on IGT's, everyone is more than welcome to discuss things they don't agree with, and thankfully interleague play is done. Hopefully a return to playing NL teams (that aren't on crazy long winning streaks) lifts some spirits over the next few weeks. I'm really excited for that Gallardo/Cain showdown tomorrow.
  19. I don't think many could've predicted it, that's for sure. For what it's worth, I thought Burns had a very solid outing. The fact that the Brewers are only trailing by 2 with that group being the day's pitchers is pretty incredible, too...that probably goes to show how huge Burns working out of that bases loaded situation was.
  20. The game is far from over, and that post toes the line of the "game over" rules we have for IGTs. The Twins getting two runs back is discouraging, but IGTs aren't designed to be vent threads. bklyn's post isn't a useless or over-the-top vent, it's a 100% IGT-worthy reaction to the game being played. The part I took offense to was "I really thought that we would win," which carries a bit of "this game is over" feeling with it. If that wasn't bklyn's intent, I apologize. To be clear, no one's being punished, and it wasn't meant to be an iron-first crackdown -- it was just a request to avoid the insinuation that the game was over after 6.5 innings. I'm just as frustrated with the way the bullpen has performed as anyone else, and I'm also questioning why Macha would bring in Narveson before Stetter. I realize that the IGT's aren't much fun when they're heavily moderated, but they're not much fun when the game is assumed to be over when the home team still has 9 outs to play with.

  22. I have to say I'm wondering just when McGehee will cool down, but for right now I'll just enjoy it. Let's get three more, guys, and climb back into a tie for the division lead.
  23. Baker's not a bad pitcher, even if his ERA was over 5 coming into today. It was covered the last time the Brewers faced him (when he almost went all 9 innings and gave up 3 runs), but his stats were really hurt by a few bad starts to start the season. He's been very solid for over a month now...he hasn't lost a decision since May 29 (4 ER vs. Tampa) and hasn't given up 5 ER since May 14.
  24. Well that certainly could've been a lot worse. Nice job working out of it by Burns, with a little luck on that liner to Counsell.
  25. I wouldn't mind a solid arm like Vazquez, but according to Cot's he's slated for $11.5 million in 2010. While it'd be great to keep him for a year and a half, I'd be scared of how that pricetag would impact the roster next year. It helps that Cameron's contract will be off the books, but would it mean having to trade Hardy this offseason, rather than just exploring that possibility? Good thing Melvin gets paid to make these decisions, not me. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
