  1. On a side note, how are we not the sponsors for Brooks' baseball-reference page? I think we should devote a portion of the donations this year to securing that piece of internet real estate in the name of Brewerfan...I'm sure we can scrape together 10 bucks. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  2. Could they even trade Beckham right now? Wasn't he was drafted last year? Obviously, reports are saying he is not part of this deal but he would have to be a PTBNL in the deal. You're right...Beckham was drafted last year, so the only way he'd be in the deal is as a PTBNL. It doesn't look like he'd be in the deal, anyway...Beckham's been pegged as their shortstop of the future since the day he was drafted, and may be a rare prospect that Kenny Williams doesn't find expendable. It does look like Aaron Poreda and Clayton Richard would be part of the deal if it goes through, though. According to MLBTradeRumors, there are reports saying that two other pitchers will be involved. Yahoo says that Chicago's not offering any position players -- purely a four pitcher for one swap. Poreda was their first round pick two years ago and is already pitching very well in AA. He's a 6'6" 240 pound lefty that can touch the high 90s with his fastball...definitely sounds like a hoss. Richard's a pretty decent guy to have in your system, too, although he doesn't seem to have overpowering stuff.
  3. Posting on fansites, you always wonder how much of what's being discussed is actually read by the players. It's very cool to know so many of the guys on the team know about the site, and even cooler that you could join us, Brooks. I think it's safe to say you were one of the few bright spots we had during some of the leaner years, and even though things are going very well on the field now, you'll never be forgotten. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  4. Saw that K coming from the start of the AB, and it seemed inevitable that he'd swing at anything Sampson threw once he looked at two strikes. Bummer, but it would've been a bit much to expect 8 wins in a row. Pick yourselves up and get the series win tomorrow.
  5. Further proof that Melvin needs to bring back Brooks. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  6. Looks like the proverbial white flag is being waved...Jorge Julio in. At least I can take solace in the fact that the Cubs are struggling to hit a Cards team the Brewers knocked around earlier this week.
  7. Every pitcher has a stinker every once and awhile, and this was a tough match up to begin with considering how well Rodriguez has been throwing to start the year. On a side note, I really hate that freaking train whistle after every Houston run.
  8. Doesn't look like Yo's on tonight...looks a bit rusty to me, and he's hanging his curveball out there to get hit hard. Hopefully Cam's homer gets something going.
  9. http://rlv.zcache.com/lets_go_streaking_shirt-p235416121615263042cpu4_400.jpg If they can win a game like they did last night, why not make it 8 in a row? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  10. "Anytime you're trying to make statistics tell you who's gonna win the game, that's a bunch of geeks trying to play video games." Excuse me while I continue to build my dynasty in Out of the Park Baseball. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  11. I'm loving Trevor Hoffman right now. 7 game win streak, and a 3 game lead in the division...I believe a "WOOOOOOOOO!" is appropriate. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  12. Well, even pitchers can hit it out in Houston if you leave that pitch there. I've had a bad feeling about this game from the start, but hopefully they can pull it out. Seven in a row just seems so unlikely, I guess.
  13. To me, neither is a very good fielder, but it helps that they're both athletic enough to make up for a fair amount of their mistakes. Braun still sometimes takes bad routes on balls and takes some unnecessary risks, but he's getting better. I just wish Brian Anderson would stop mentioning his lack of errors since moving to the outfield, because it's pretty hard to get charged with an error as an outfielder. Both are better than Carlos Lee, for what it's worth. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  14. 1. Seriously, go to class. Unlike high school, there's a good chance that YOU'RE paying for every credit yourself. Don't throw that money down the drain, especially if you're going to be paying interest on student loans. Even the most boring and painful classes are likely only going to take a few hours a week. You'll live. 2. Know what you can handle when building your schedule every semester. If you know you have trouble getting up early in the morning, try to put together a schedule that doesn't have you getting up before 9 or 10 or 11 or whenever you usually get up. It's been my personal mission to build a schedule that doesn't start before 9:30 in the morning and allows me to have Fridays completely free. 3. Apply for every scholarship you're possibly eligible for. This is why grades can be very important -- there may be campus chapters of various honor societies that offer scholarships, not to mention departmental scholarships that may not be included in your initial financial aid package. On a similar note, remember to get your FAFSA done every year. You never know what you're eligible for until you do the paperwork. 4. Take advantage of every event on campus that offers free food. Don't really care about saving the rainforest but you heard there's going to be free pizza? Swing by for free slices anyway. Never pass up the chance to save a few bucks. 5. Actively start trying to land internships, at least by your junior year. Internships get you experience, and help break that vicious cycle of not being able to get a job without experience and not being able to get experience without a job. Take advantage, even if you don't need to take one for credit.
  15. Well I guess something had to go wrong sooner or later...too much good was happening recently for something like this to not pop up sooner or later. Reading the phrase "the oft-injured Weeks..." in the AP story posted on ESPN stung a little bit to read, but I wonder how long it'll be before the same crowd that ganged up on Ben Sheets for being hurt all the time jumps on Weeks. It's just unfortunate that this had to happen when Weeks was finally starting to figure things out and get comfortable up there. I can only hope that this doesn't have a big psychological effect on him and it undoes all the progress he made. I still remember Hardy still worrying about his shoulder years after recovering from that injury and it hampering his development at the plate...hopefully that doesn't happen to Rickie and he can come back quickly and with confidence.
  16. According to the Cards Clubhouse fan site link provided in the first post, Lohse is hitting 8th tonight. Looks like LaRussa's trying everything in his book to shake some offense out of his injury-crippled club: Schumaker, 2B Stavinoha, RF Pujols, 1B Duncan, LF Molina, C Rasmus, CF Barden, 3B Lohse, P T. Greene, SS
  17. For the radio crew, I'd just settle for an "Untuck 'em, everybody!" following the final out. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif I have to say that all the whining about the Brewers' practices have made the past couple games even sweeter than they would've been. Following that fateful nightmare of a 4-game weekend series a couple seasons ago, I'm thrilled with every win in St. Louis.
  18. My favorite post from STLtoday so far: Yikes...talk about doom and gloom.
  19. After yesterday's 1-0 affair, how about a nice 10-0 win to untuck 'em with? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Edit: Telly Hughes says on Brewers Live that Counsell is starting today because he has good career numbers against Wellemeyer. Also said that since he has good numbers against Kyle Lohse, he'll likely see the start in the series finale as well...looks like no Gamel starts anytime soon.
  20. I got the feeling the ump just wanted to get the inning over with. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  21. I know it's early, but they're only a game back of first place right now. That series against the Cards is going to be a ton of fun...but let's finish sweeping the Marlins first. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  22. On the Marlins fan site, there was someone who said something along the lines of "Fielder smashed that meatball, and he's a vegetarian." http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif Fantastic 6th inning for Manny...he's gotta be done, though, because he was at 96 pitches before that inning.
  23. The Legal Environment of Business is going to have to wait now that we've gained some ground back. My grades hate the Brewers...I'm actively trying to calculate how much I'll have to study to do well enough on my final to maintain my grade. Bummer that Kendall couldn't tie it up, but hopefully the long lay-off hasn't messed with Manny's groove that he was starting to find.
  24. With Manny settling down and some runs on the board, I'm starting to feel a bit more optimistic now. Hopefully Manny doesn't go out and give up another run now.
  25. Usually the choice between studying for finals and watching the Brewers would be an easy decision, but I'm about another unanswered Marlins run or two from actually going back to reading about the intricacies of American Foreign Policy. Edit: Ueck on TV in the 4th? I'll at least stick around for that... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
