  1. The Vikings needed an extension from the NFL to avoid blackouts several times last season (6 of their home games, except the ones vs. the Packers and Bears--hmm I wonder why?). Often, the local television stations purchase the remaining tickets and distribute them to charities. They haven't been blacked out since 1997, but I have a hunch it'll happen during the 08 season. In a metropolitan area pushing 3.2 million, that's pathetic. I've always believed the Brewers should be proud of their attendance figures. 38000 on a Saturday in Milwaukee would be a disappointment. I'll laugh at anybody from Minnesota who slams a Wisconsin franchise/team for their fan support.
  2. Wow, non-game related, but the FOX cameras caught Kerry Wood giving somebody the bird with both hands. Obviously, no mention of it on the telecast, but it's sure to be on Deadspin.
  3. I calculated this last time the Brewers lost when "going for the road sweep": Since the Brewers swept their last road series (7/1/04), they have played 10 games in which they had an opportunity to sweep their opponent (on the road). They have lost all ten games. 2008 (3, including tonight); 2007 (5); 2006 (2); 2005 (0); 2004 (0) It's now 11 games. (cleaned up code --1992)
  4. I'd be doing the same thing if the Brewers choked away their chance to win the same pennant. And I'm a man. I recall the FOX footage of the Mets fans crying after the 2006 NLCS -- I can sympathize for them more than the Cubs fans, naturally. The outcome of a Cubs/Brewers NLCS would draw extreme emotions. A loss: I'd be bitter for years; a win: I'd gloat everyday. By the way, the Cubs have a stupid logo. I hate the giant C.
  5. Craig Counsell...just the guy I want to see!
  6. Looked scary off the bat...but the series is won! Let's get our first road sweep in FOUR YEARS tomorrow.
  7. I hope that Corky Miller isn't a name that will live in Brewers Infamy
  8. Ugh...I'm being reminded of Opening Day
  9. What!?!? Show me a replay. Don't tell me he hit ANOTHER inside the park homer.
  10. Wow. He's sealed up the "Newcomer of the Year" Award. He absolutely smoked that ball.
  11. Braun may not entirely deserve a starting spot, or a place on the team at all, but it's important for us to flex our Brewer fan muscles. A starter in the ASG two years in a row would be an impressive accomplishment. If you're not going to vote for Braun, please don't vote for Fukudome or Soriano.
  12. Apparantly, according to Hank Steinbrenner, we National Leaguers need to grow up: The Yankees' loss of their ace, Chien-Ming Wang, for up to 10 weeks prompted the team co-chairman Hank Steinbrenner to chastise the National League for playing without a designated hitter. "My only message is simple," Steinbrenner said in Tampa, Fla. "The National League needs to join the 21st century. They need to grow up and join the 21st century." Steinbrenner said he was angry and added: "I've got my pitchers running the bases, and one of them gets hurt. He's going to be out. I don't like that, and it's about time they address it. That was a rule from the 1800s." It's not a vent, but I can't even take that seriously. http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/view/54192?eref=sircrc Edit: link
  13. "Mota's been our eighth-inning pitcher the majority of the year," Yost said. "We went to our eighth-inning pitcher." Ugh...that's frustrating. Besides the fact that it's a ridiculous rationale for pulling your hot pitcher who just threw a 10 pitch inning, has Mota really been the eighth inning guy all year? Not really, Ned.
  14. 3-3 2 in Colorado, 1 in Houston Although this whole sweeping on the road "phobia" could come full circle and finally end in Colorado. If it does, I'll bust out the champagne.
  15. There's talk that Chicago is a slam dunk for the bid because of the TV contracts. Supposedly, the IOC plans to award the Summer Games to an American city every 20 years as a reward for NBC's huge contract. I don't have a link, but the idea has been discussed on various forums. I've heard that the bicycling events would take place in the Kettle Moraine State Forest in Waukesha/Walworth counties.
  16. Did anybody else score free tickets for wearing green to the game today?
  17. I have a pair of tickets for Wed., July 30 vs. the Cubs that I can no longer use (Section 414, Terrace Box, Row 2). I am seeking an exchange for either the Tuesday OR Thursday game versus Chicago (any seats, any section). To sweeten the deal, I'll throw in a pair of tickets for the Toronto game on Wed., 6/18 free of charge (Terrace Resv, Sec 416). Let me know if you're interested. Thanks.
  18. HOU: 1-0 ARZ: 2-1 at COL: 2-1 at HOU: 2-1 MIN: 2-1 TOR: 1-2 BAL: 3-0 at ATL: 1-2 at MIN: 2-1 at ARZ: 1-0 17-9 (45-37)
  19. I'll quote the last line of a letter to the JS sports section from today's issue: "Yost needs to get Cameron and Weeks out of the lineup, and Counsell and Gwynn into the lineup more regularly. Otherwise, this season is lost." Who writes these letters!?
  20. I'd call it a collapse. The Brewers were on top of the division until the end of July; when you have a stranglehold on the division for 3+ months, you should be expected to win it. They had an 86% chance of making the postseason after play on July 2. I know it's been mentioned before, but BP rates the Brewers "collapse" as the 40th biggest in history. The Brewers were not good enough to keep up with the early pace, but with the lead they owned, they were more than capable of treading water and suppressing the Cubs for a couple of months.
  21. I have a $5 ticket in Section 331 at Chase Field for the MIL/ARZ game on Monday, June 30. If anyone is in the Phoenix area that evening, or needs an extra ticket for the game, I'm willing to part with it free of charge.
  22. It looks like all the right guys should start, save for Griffey.
